Problems in Lodamum

Postby Lansbury » Fri May 15, 2009 9:26 am

Hi,

I joined Lodamum a short while ago as the Christian Socialist Party. When I joined, all of the seats were controlled by The Liberal Party. Naturally, as an incoming party I sought to increase my party's political visibility by putting forward Bills. However, I have still not been able to raise my visibility because The Liberal Party has interrupted the progress of these Bills twice by calling early elections. As I write, they are on the verge of interrupting my Bills again with yet a third early election motion.

I am also a little frustrated that in our nation, parties are only allocated 1 legislative quota a year, with a maximum accumulated quota of 5. I feel this quota is unreasonably low, and makes it unfairly difficult for a new party to establish itself. In a nation like ours, with 1 established party and 3 new parties, this is perhaps even more of an issue.

I have tried to negotiate with the player controlling The Liberal Party in a respectful and friendly way over these concerns. but have not made any progress. Indeed, the request I recently made to him to allow my Bills passage without interrupting them with early elections has just been responded to by him calling another election.

I would be grateful for a Mod intervention to help resolve these issues.

Thanks.

Not going to happen, mate. As unfair as it seems, what the Liberal Party is doing is completely within the rules of the game.

Your two options, as I see it, are:

1) Stick at it and eventually - and I mean eventually - his visibility might drop low enough for you to win a seat. Or,

2) Give up and move elsewhere. There are plenty of nations to choose from which have formal democratic systems that allow for multiple parties.

Hang around and keep proposing bills. As long as he's denied the opportunity to restore his visibilities he won't last that long. The method he's using to maintain power is pretty clumsy, and eventually the cracks will show.

You could also post your RP complaints in character here:

Doesn't really do anything to stop him, but turning his own creation against him is fun :P

I love your enthusiasm AM. I even have fun when they turn my own creation against me. And thank you for the nice words about my angelical plans to keep power.

No problem :P Never happier than when I'm being a thorn in somebody's side.

And by the by, the method you're using is clumsy, whether you like it or not. I should know, I've used it often enough. Mainly because it requires constant attention...

For the record, moderation will not be intervening. Even without investigating this, there is no violation of the rules here.

Read the comments above about how to make the most of the situation you find yourself in.

Thanks, Adjectiv3, for your ruling, and thanks everybody for your support and advice. I was rather miffed about the situation to begin with, but on reflection, I suppose the peculiar situation in Lodamum is not such an injustice in the grand scheme of things when one considers there are 58 other nations available, most of them with places available for new players. A little eccentricity here and there makes the world a richer place.

Thanks, Mr Yankees and others for your input about how I could role-play in Lodamum without necessarily being able to put forward much legislation. However, I think I'd rather play in a nation where I've got a chance of beating my Lodamum best of 0.07% of the national vote and 0 seats. No bad feelings; I wish you every success with your dictatorship! :-).

The only suggestion I have is that a note is left somewhere on Lodamum's nation page letting new players know about the early election ploy which is likely to be used to disrupt proposed pieces of legislation. Other than that...well, maybe after this experience I'll appreciate real democracy even more in the next nation I join. :-)

Best wishes,

Lansbury
