Discriminatory Post

Postby Siggon Kristov » Sat Jan 21, 2012 2:41 pm

National Front wrote:This act will promote the spiritual strength of our people. Moral weakness is a plague to this nation which the National Front intends to stamp out. Let us make the Church of Egelion the official state Church! Egelians want strength!

Coalition of Liberal Socialists wrote:It is sad that the word "church" is used in the proposal; mosques, synagogues, and other temples exist as well.

National Front wrote:Mosques, synagogues, and temples enjoy the benefits of our society while contributing to its ultimate decline :!:

 I found the National Front's last statement somewhat offensive, as it labelled the existence of particular religions as something negative; it wasn't labelling "religion" itself as bad, but more of certain religions, saying that churches deserve to exist, but other religious buildings contribute to society's decline. It would be best if you understood the context of the debate, considering other proposals this player made, and his comments and posts that gave reason to his suggestions. Suggestions are allowed by the game, and are available as options, but the comments are not the most delightful things. The bill, where this debate took place, can be found here: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill. ... lid=337435

The National Front is speaking in character.

In character, especially in the context of this game, someone should be objectively pro-religion or anti-religion, but being pro-religion while posting discriminatory remarks against a particular religion is wrong.

I can understand the 1st post as merely in-character:
National Front wrote:This act will promote the spiritual strength of our people. Moral weakness is a plague to this nation which the National Front intends to stamp out. Let us make the Church of Egelion the official state Church! Egelians want strength!

The 2nd post, however, is ridiculous:
National Front wrote:Mosques, synagogues, and temples enjoy the benefits of our society while contributing to its ultimate decline!

I think the dude should at least be given a warning or something. The context of the bill revolved around whether or not there should be any national religion; it was not about choosing a religion.

This isn't a P.C. game. There are national socialist parties in the game, as well as communists, satanists, religious fanatics, atheist extremists, extreme nationalists and so on. In my own country my coalition seeks a cultural genocide of the nation and the opposition seeks to wipe out us Selucians in Pontesi. Just like in RL, there are people with extreme ideas and that's okay. Don't take anything spoken IC personal, remember we are all just role-playing.

The game has nothing to do with differing religions; in the context of the game and legislation, a party is either pro-religious or non-religious.

You are wrong. There are several religions in Terra, some who do not appreciate each other. Read the wiki.

Not the point. The context of the debate was whether or not we should allow a national religion, not what the national religion should be if there is one.

Not discriminatory as it was IC. A party can be as discriminatory as it likes in-character.
