Sekowan Military Numbers / Budget

Postby redoct » Tue Dec 30, 2014 3:58 am

Sekowa's latest military expansion (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill. ... lid=425140) verges on godmodding:

1) The budget passed in order to increase military spending to the stated figure of 80bn is highly unrealistic (see: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill. ... lid=425139 - an increase of over a third of total expenditure, and the trade and industry budget is slashed by 10x which would grind the economy to a halt)
2) No account of the vast amounts of capital expenditure which would need to go into the building of new military bases with an expansion of this size
3) 900,000 troops aren't going to fight for free
4) Actual numbers total more than the 80bn stated

I believe the weapons numbers are too large, and the exact types are a bit costly. If he just stated "planes" or something, it'd be more plausible. It would also be realistic if his nation was mobilized and everybody in the country was related to the war efforts in some way, such as rationing, drafting, women taking multiple jobs, etc. I don't see the reason why such high military levels must be maintained in a time of peace.

I think both you guys (redoct and MarkWill) are wrong about the military numbers being too large. Almost every country ends up with more than a million troops if calculated under the Rildanor Accords formula. As for the budget being unrealistic, that is to be found more or less everywhere really, military budgets tend to be on the high side in PT.

However there has been some unacceptable RP with regards to Sekowo given how it's gone from a country with a pacifist Constitution and absolutely no army (after its defeat in the Indralan-Sekowan war) to what appears to be a super power in less than 8 years. It will be interesting to see if the RL Japan can do this after amending its constitution.

I don't really have an issue with the troop numbers, finances however are a big problem. There's overestimating your budget and then there's grossly overestimating your budget - this is the latter.
