National Elections Bring Hope to New Englia

[August 21, 2783]: The national elections that took place on March 10, 2783, were certified today making it the first succesfull election in the new nation's history. Over 15 million people voted in the election which helped fill out the remaining seats in the National Assembly and pick new governors for the 3 provinces.

The election also ended the ruling by the transitional government in place as the people elected Yuri Chrisalvich to become the nation's first Governor-General. He won the election with 67% of the vote. He ran a platform that promises more economic change to the naiton and a renewed focus in the energy sector. The Assembly also selected Karl Venderland to become the Prime Minister.

Kazullia Worried Over Weapons

[September 11, 2783]: Today, the nation recieved a message from Kazulia's foreign affairs minister concerning the nation's nuclear weapons. Marius Stoltenberg showed alarm at the nations 3 nuclear weapons. Stoltenberg said, "Concern has arisen within our government regarding the military of New Englia. It seems that the New Englian Military has somehow obtained three nuclear bombs, and the question that our government has is, why does New Englia need nuclear weaponry? Our country is greatly concerned by this and would like to hear the reason behind the possession of these weapons."

The Governor-General and Prime Minister quickly responded by reminding them that they are for protection only and war isn't in the near future. This reassured many in the nation who were skeptical of the governments handling of its first major foreign policy test. However, this has yet to silence some of the administrations harshest critics such as Governor-General candidate Rex Ibachke who called on the assembly to censure Chrisalvich and conduct an investigation into the nation's WMDs.

National Assembly passes Rural Modernization Act

[March 3, 2784]: The National Assembly has approved a 4.8 Billion FRX plan to modernize the rural areas of New Englia. The plan was meet with stiff opposition by members of the Colonial Party which "represents" the native and rural peoples of New Englia who harp how the project, "Destroys culture and history of the early settlements". The government did not release a statement on the allegations. Construction will begin in April and will finish in 2 years.

Miller Resigns Amid Scandal

[August 21, 2801]: Today, Governor-General Allison Miller resigned 5 months after being reelected to a third term. She was under fire for allegedly hiring "political hitmen" to seek out and destroy any politician who planned to run against her in the 2801 and the upcoming 2804 elections. The scandal known as the "Hitman Scandal" had been the focus of a investigation conducted by the Justice Department for the past 2 years. In recent days, the new information was released that pinned Miller to the scandal and mentioned other government officials as co-conspirators.

Upon her resignation, Vice-General Peter Croom was designated the Acting Governor-General of New Englia. He will have all the powers associated with the position and will serve out the remainder of Miller's term. However has Croom has stated he will not run for a full term which helps potential candidates such as Sarah Palemin and Dominic Ousane.

New Englia Takes Action Against Indrala

[February 17, 2815]: In a rare bipartisan effort by Congress, the National Assembly and Senate passed the Indralan Protection Act of 2813 which bans any trade between Indrala and New Englia, bans travel between the nations and puts the government of Indrala on the List of Rouge Nations. The bill was promptly signed by Governor-General Bob Camden as he prepares to address the nation about rumors of a possible war with Indrala in the nation's first State of the Republic.

Defense Secretary Peter Maxwell

[August 18, 2815]: Defense Secretary Peter Maxwell meet with the Governor-General & Prime Minister to talk about a possible war with Indrala. The Governor-General has said he will recommend it to the Congress for approval. However, the Prime Minister has stated that if there is a war she will resign her position in protest. That has led some prominent politicians such as former Governor-General Sarah Palemin to question her loyalty to this nation and to the people of Dovani. A recent poll found that 42% of New Englians support a war with Indrala.
