Joshua Artingstall, Minister-President of Gavonshire Embroiled In Sleeze Allegations!

Joshua Artingstall http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Joshua_Artingstall , was fighting for his political life today after revelations that he had obtained 'kick-backs' from the International Steel corporation to by-pass Gavonshire's planning laws and allow the corporation to build a new plant just outside the city of Pax with less planning regulation.

He released a statement today strenuously denying the allegations whilst William Instrell, Minister for Internal Affairs, launched an urgent independent enquiry into the affair and stated that Mr. Artingstall had the governments 'full support'.

The allegations could prove very damaging to the Conservative party, in a state that it controls by a small majority of only 7 seats.

Education and Culture Minister Kieran McGourty Breaks Ranks!

Education and Culture Minister Kieran McGourty has broken party ranks and critised Prime Minister James Grewer and President Harry Winchester over their handling over the current strike action.

He released this statement to the Conservative Times.

"It breaks my heart to find myself disagreeing so vehemently with a party I have dedicated my life to over one issue. However, I feel that is absolutely necessary and right to call into question President Winchester's and Prime Minister Gower's handling of the unions. By refusing to negotiate they are harming the livelihoods of ordinary Alorian’s. I do not support their actions, but by simply labelling them as 'agitators' and ignoring what, I feel to be, legitimate concerns the Conservative party is in a way stifling free speech. Let us not forget that this party was founded on the principle of freedom for all, not freedom for some. So it is with regret I feel I must release this statement, and take whatever consequences come what may."

The government has not yet made any reply to the statement by the Education and Culture Minister, but this open defiance has brought to the public light a very definite split in the party over how best to handle the striking workers. This statement could be potentially very damaging to the party, less than a year before vital elections where they stand to lose a large number of seats.

New Ministers Caught Up In 'Cash for Steel' Allegations!

The recent scandal involving the Minister-President of Gavonshire, Joshua Atringstall has exploded today with fresh allegations that THREE new ministers were involved in the scandal regarding International Steel, named by the media as the 'Cash for Steel' scandal.

Tina Darcy, Minister for Food and Agriculture; Bernat Calla, Minister-President of Sildar and Manel Oller, Trade and Industry minister were caught up in the scandal as fresh details emerged last night that International Steel was seeking to develop a second new industrial plant based just outside Sildar’s famous 'Tech Valley'.

None of the Ministers when question would issue any comments on the story and at this time no governmental spokesmen can offer any further comments on the damaging developments.

President Harry Winchester and the Rutania delegation have returned to Aloria and President Winchester immediately went to a press conference in Pax, Gavonshire to kick start the Conservative party election campaign.

He unveiled the new Conservative party May 2824 election motto, “You can only be sure with the Conservatives!” and answered questions on the Union Crisis, The Education and Culture Ministers attack on his leadership and the ‘Cash for Steel’ scandals.

“We will not bow to pressure from illegal strikers, whose criminal actions are aimed at harming the very people they claim to support. Time and again we have reiterated our position. With regards to Mr. McGourty I have asked him to come to my office personally and explain his actions to me. If he continues to hold such views I think his future in my cabinet is uncertain. He clearly is allowed a personal view but cabinet ministers should not vent their personal feelings through the press.

The ‘Cash for Steel’ allegations, threaten to undermine the reputation of Alorian parliament but we must remember that none of these accusations have been proven and in Aloria we have a justice system that, rightly so, says a man or woman is innocent until proven guilty. Therefore, I do not feel it right for those Ministers to step down at this time.

Finally may I just say that the economic figures will be released by my Finance Minister Daniel Greenfield and that the preliminary figures make for a most positive reading. Our colleagues the opposition in parliament would wish to raise the taxes of the average citizen and raise taxes for business, stifling the growth of our economy. Remember that when it comes to proper governance, you only can be sure with the Conservatives.”

CONSERVATIVE TIMES EDITORIAL

The Conservative party have leaked their own electoral objectives for the coming elections in May. These are:

-Retain control of Krentori, Kurmal and Ultran.

-Maintain current position as largest party in Aloria's parliament.

-Secure more seats than the New Socialist Alliance.

-Secure fourth term for President Harry Winchester.

-Ideally secure a minimum of 251 seats in parliament to maintain overall control of the Alorian government.

However, with the ever deepening Union crisis and the 'Cash for Steel' scandals can the Conservative party pull off a surprise victory? The opinion polls point to the Conservative party taking a pounding at these parliamentary elections and the Presidential election doesn't look certain either. Can the Conservative party maintain its position as the party with the most seats in parliament, or will it be over taken by the Liberty or New Socialist Alliance parties? It looks almost certain according to the polls that Gavonshire and Sildar will slip out of Conservative control but will they maintain a lead large enough in the other three states to retain a majority in parliament?

Conservative Party suffers meltdown at polls

The Conservative party has recorded its worst election result in over 71 years tonight and a staggeringly high number of high ranking conservative officials have lost their seats, including:

James Grewer Prime Minister
Ava Plant Foreign Minister
Tina Darcy Minister for Food and Agriculture
Bernat Calla former Minister President of Sildar

Making his final statement as Prime Minister, James Grewer said this:

"According to history, when the curtains falls you must get off the stage. I wish to thank all our supporters and workers and the people of Aloria whom we have served long and dutiful. I wish to congratulate the success of our partners the Fatherland union and wish them every success in the future.”

President Harry Winchester, who secured a fourth term as President stated:

“Last night was a dreadful night for the party, we must regroup and revolutionise our policies to appeal to a new generation of Alorians. I wish every success to all the other parties who have had a very successful evening.”

Former Education and Culture Minister Kieran McGourty becomes new conservative party leader and candidate for Prime Minister

Mr. McGourty, known for his famous attack on the former conservative governments position on the striking workers has been elected as the new conservative party leader and candidate for prime minister, after the former Prime Minister James Grower lost his seat in the landslide defeat in May.

"We must become a new, modern party of Aloria. Our traditions, and values which have stood us well in the past no longer fit in with today’s modern Aloria. Our old policies failed to resonate with the people and we must remember that Conservatism does not mean standing opposed to all change, it means being critical of change but allowing change that must happen occur. We must become a new revitalised party who stands for all the workers of this great nation or we face an even worse defeat at the next election.

I do not oppose conservatism, but I oppose the sleaze, corruption and power tainted arrogance of th last conservative government. As evidenced by the elections, the electorate of Aloria felt the same way. It is a time for change, a time for renewing conservatism in the 29th century.

I will support new plans and legislation protecting the rights of workers; I will uphold the highest standards in my ministers and parliamentarians and support new anti-corruption legislation. We, as conservatives have much to be proud of in our history. But we must not spend our lives looking backwards; we must look towards the bright future."
