Terra Stock Market

Postby federalist11 » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:12 pm

The Terra Stock Market to be founded no later than 3320 shall be the top companies of Terra numbering no more than 50. The Terra Stock Market will give a good indicator of the world economy. CEOs of various companies can comment on why their stock went up congratulating themselves or excuses for why it went down. Corruption, accounting errors, greed, and new inventions can all be part of the story line.

Instructions:

Each party selects one company name and may also name the CEO and board of that company. The first 50 parties that sign up are part of the Terra Stock Market. In the unlikely event more than 50 apply, a waiting list will be made available until a registered party is inactive. When a party goes inactive it is assumed their company filed bankruptcy. A description of what the company does is also required.

Example:
Nation: Davostag
Party Name: House of Thor
Company Name: Strom Industries
CEO: Prince John Strom
Purpose: Weapon Manufacturer

Equation: Party seat percentage * voter turnout percentage = Terra Stock Market price
Example: 40% + 60% voter turnout = 100
Reasoning: Parties consistently getting 100% due to one party states will never have their prices go down. Voter turnout fluctuates their numbers while also rewarding highly competitive nations.

Prices will be checked ideally every three days and then graphed.

The soon to be opening Terran Stock Market caught the eye of Arthur Pillum, the CEO of Armastech Incorporated, who decided that his company, as one of the largest companies in its industry , should be listed:

Nation: Deltaria
Party: Deltarian Union for Conservative Economy (DUCE)
Company: Armastech Industries Incorporated (Armastech Inc.)
CEO: Arthur Pilum
Sector: Small Arms and Munitions Supplier

Armastech Inc. is Deltaria's largest small arms supplier; the industry including hand guns, rifles, etc. The company is very large and exports to other countries besides its homeland of Deltaria. It is technically a completely privately owned company but the CEO, Arthur Pillum, is a very high ranking member of the Deltarian Union for Conservative Economy, and thus has ties to the party. Previously it had been a private company, not selling its stock on the open market, but with the announcement of the Terran Stock Market the board decided that this would be the perfect time to make it go public.

Stock Market Equation: (50% of legislature + 83.6%)

Stock Market Price: 133.60

Nation: United Republics of Lodamun
Party: United Republics Party
Company: Seleyan Trans-National (STN)
CEO: Maia Marina
Sector: Banking and Financial Services

Seleyan Trans-National is Lodamun's largest private bank. It's responsible for over half of the banking in the United Republics and accounts for a large share of banking across Seleya. Outside the continent, the bank continues to grow, but is hampered by a lack of physical locations compared to the ubiquitous branches across the Seleyan countries it operates in.

STN's growth outside Lodamun is fueled by its "LOD premium" accounts which allow customers to hold savings in stable Lodamese Dollars. CEO Maia Marina also used her connections in the United Republics party to have Lodamun insure all accounts. This gives STN a strong competitive advantage in nations which do not insure deposits.

Stock Market Price per Share: 139.09

OOC: We agree that the LOD should be used, but we could just use points. As for an index, I assumed this was an index with actual stocks being traded in their home stock exchanges. Also, I think companies should include a 3 letter abbreviation.

Nation: Feline Homeland of Barmenia
Party Name: Libertarian Alliance of Cats
Company Name: Ikegaru Development Corporation
CEO: Garfield "Little" Bear
Purpose: Real Estate/Urban Redevelopment
Symbol: IDC
Equation: 43+74=117 in Terran Stock Market Dollars

The Ikegaru Development Corporation was founded in 3253 by past Barmenian head of state (Felis Supremis) Felix "Big" Bear. Originally called the Ikegaru Development League to redevelop land in the Ikegaru Sanctuary (region) of Barmenia. It is best known for its creation of the World Class Ikegaru Conference Center City. The Ikegaru Conference City hosts the ATR Conference on Peace and War Institutions, an ongoing global conference of Terran democracies' politicians and intellectuals as they seek to navigate global disputes through establishing international institutions.

The IDC was tapped by the GALT FREYJA government to build the infrastructure in Barmenia's planned colonies in Terra's Uncivilized Regions. Unfortunately, the expedition mysteriously disappeared in 3288 and with it the IDC lost much of its assets. It has rebounded under the helm of Felix Bear's son Garfield. He has expanded the IDC beyond Barmenia and towards redeveloping land and building real estate across Terra. One of its latest projects has been building and maintaining the new military infrastructure on Kathuristan.

The IDC will be providing the Terran Stock Market with infrastructure and buildings for a headquarters and trading center in Ikegaru Conference City, Barmenia if its organizers would be amenable to that notion. We hope that this will lead to a future peace between Barmenia and Davostag.

Prince John Strom of Tarekha, Davostag suggests that the Terra Stock Market World Trade Center be located in the capital of the United Republics of Lodamun due to their thriving democracy, powerful military (based off Davostag Accord), large geographical size, strong currency in Terra, and a history of peace with few enemies. The Terra Stock Market has been given royal approval by Christian I of Davostag, which has a libertarian view on economics.

The CEO of Armastech Inc. spoke regarding the location of the Terran Stock Market Headquarters:

I believe that, while Lodamun is a good idea for the location of the Terran Stock Market, a better location would be in the capital of Mordusia. The reason for this is because, while Mordusia too has a vibrant democracy of seven established parties and has a reasonably healthy economy, it is also secured by the Mordusian Neutrality Pact, which, as the name implies, makes it neutral on international affairs. This would make the country, in my opinion, the perfect place to hold an international stock exchange and index headquarters.

If the exchange will not be in Barmenia, then the Feline Homeland supports Deltaria's motion to place it in Mordusia. We do not think it wise to overly centralize financial activity in Lodamun. Let us not make Lodamun "too big to fail".

Mordusia is a poor choice because it has policies more hostile to business. Taxes on corporations are 16% as opposed to 0% in Lodamun. Mordusia restricts investment by foreign nations in its economy. Mordusia isn't even active on this stock market. Placing the stock exchange in Port Andalay makes sense because it's already a leading financial center and has been at peace for centuries. A peace provided by a strong military and not a piece of paper to be shredded by Terra's next crazed despot. Just put the stock exchange where the infrastructure already exists - Lodamun.

The Terran Stock Exchange is best based in Lodamun, the origin of the world's international trade currency.
