4TH SESSION OF THE UMN OPENS

Council of Majatra Building in Portsmouth, Zardugal

Today the continent of Majatra began what has become a routine event, the Fourth Session of the Council of Majatra began with Solentia assuming the Chair of the body. As the session comes under way, let us look back and see how far we have come in terms of Majatran unity.
The UMN was the product of war, the Southern Hemispheric War in the 3340's was so devastating to Majatra that the defeated Zardugal began work on the Union of Majatran Nations. Unfortunately work was slow, and few nations were attracted to the prospect. With the collapse of the CRP in Zardugal, the main pro-Majatra party in the 3420's the UMN's future was thrown into doubt. However work continued through the New Pan Majatran Union Coalition which many parties joined and slowly the UMN became more prevalent among member nations. Finally by the 3490's enough nations had joined that the First Session of the Council of Majatra was called. That session made many important reforms such as the Security Council and the Human Rights Council. However the First started in the backdrop of the Second Great Majartan War, which clouded over its work. The Second and Third Sessions consisted mostly of the task on building secure and stable basic institutions which it largely succeeded at. The Third Great Majatran War completely disrupted the council sessions and at the end of the war a restart was called.
After that a new spirit swept the UMN with a permanent secretariat and other administrative offices being formed to regularize the UMN's work and it began direct movements to offer support to member nations. New support missions to Jelbania and the creation of the MBU heralded a new age of Majatran unity. We are so close to our goal, let us not waiver now.

GEOPOLITICAL SITUATION IN TERRA CHANGES
Image
By Dylan Drummond, Chief Global Political Correspondent of ZWR
An era has ended. In a great shock Luthori, once the pre-eminent power in Terra has fallen fast and hard. The republican oriented Progressive Party and the new military group centred around Colonel Oliver Welcrum seemed set to launch a civil war. However with the fall of the once dominant Imperial Nobles Alliance and the upsurge of the republican movement support for the military collapsed and the Progressive Party is now dominant. Now with Luthori embroiled in internal turmoil and the world now lacking its hegemon (which many observers saw as in a slow decline) the world stage is open to new parties to take control.
The giants of Artinia, Dorvik and Luthori have fallen with a new nationalist and insular regime ruling the former. In Indrala, one of the other giants of Terra is currently embroiled in a socialist uprising and its Commonwealth in lacking. SO who will replace Luthori and the old guard?

DELTARIA- This nation has proven one of the most ruthless in all of Terra. Over the past 30 years the Empire has slowly and ruthlessly expanded to include a smattering of Terran nations and most of Western Majatra. Deltaria is expanding and given its keen strategy make them a player for the future.

ZARDUGAL-A perennial foe of Deltaria until recently has always been suspected over having imperialist ambitions. Recently Zardugal has been spending billions on upgrading the military and putting a renewed effort in expansive diplomatic efforts.

MAJATRA IN A NEW AGE
Image

September 16th, 3658
By James Hofman, Chief Foreign Correspondent for the Belgae Post

In the never ending sea of change that is Majatra, the tides and currents of the region are once again changing and are doing so in typical Majatran fashion. Over decades the Augustan Empire was THE power of the Majatra but now it is no more. A relic discarded in a heartbeat like one throws out a broken tool. It seems typical in Majatran regional politics that once mighty empires like that can die so quickly and bring about a generation of warfare and chaos that allows another player in the game to rise only to seem them fall soon afterwards.
A little over 150 years ago we were in a similar situation. The chaos of the Deltarian Civil War led many to think that its regime would not last long, one being built on fear and imperialism but alas it proved more than effective. The Lake Majatra Wars (in Zardugal called the Second and Third Great Majatran Wars) were more than the futile effort they became by Zardugal to stop or at least check the rise of Deltaria and its Holy Alliance, they were fought also to fill a power vacuum that swept the continent. By the time things settled down in the 3520's Jakania had seen a succession of governments, Cobura had been invaded twice, Zardugal was humiliated and left for dead, Deltaria achieved unparalleled power and Kalopia was also scene of a violent civil war between the ethnic Kalopians and there seemingly forever archenemy, the Wantuni.
That calm was broken in the later half of the 3500's with the collapse of Deltaria into civil war. Zardugal of course smelling blood in the water quickly exerted its force, bombing rebel movements, securing ports in Deltaria and placing "peacekeepers" in Doron Akigo. Then the first monarchy moved south and quickly overran Cobura and Jakania and created a Pax Zard. Unfortunately the time was not right and the monarchy was swept aside. A new family was installed and the Augustan Empire was later born. Now with the collapse of the Augustan Empire, the Majatran "power vacuum"' must be filled, but by who? Well what is the current situation in Majatra?

THE NORTH
Image

Northern Majatra is more or less in chaos. Beiteynu is in total anarchy while Pontesi too is without a functioning central government. Tribes and local warlords fight for power but no one is strong enough to prevail. Barmenia is still licking its severe wounds from the Augustan Wars but as of now can be considered to be the neighborhood player, if by default though given the strange attachment to the Felinist religion, its appeal and potential as a major Majatran power player remain limited. Unless they partner with another nation they will be confined to managing the chaos to their north and Vanuku to the south.

THE ISLANDS
Image
Cildania City in the evening (ooc: I modeled it after Beirut given the Syriac/Lebanese description of the nation)

While the rise of a major Majatran power player from these three nations (Selucia, Cildania and Badara) remains low there have been some interesting role reversals at play here. Selucia, a country known for its stability and steep sense of history and culture (it being the home of much of the Western and even Majatran worlds culture and language) has been plagued by various communist and leftist risings and disturbances. While the Conservative government maintains a tight grip on power, the leftist movements show change can come at any moment and likely will have to be reckoned with.
Meanwhile in Badara, things are the most stable they've been in years. A new central government and monarch are in power and many development schemes have been launched to bring the country into the modern world. While troublesome Badara is always tough to pin down it seems rather strange to see one of the most stable nations in Majatra trade places with a perennially unstable Badara.
Cildania meanwhile is still status quo and will likely remain a middle ranking nation. However it could play an important role if several competitors emerge in Majatra, then look for them to be courting Cildania who could tip the balance of power in any way.

EAST MAJATRA
Image
Kalopian village on the southern coast

While trying not be cynical there are several new trends developing and old ones continuing in East Majatra. Istalia continues its benign neglect of continental affairs, a position afforded to it by its near geographic isolation while Solentia has come under new management who advocate a more isolationist sediment than is previously thought of for Solentia. Kalopia has and will continue to be a basket case of problems of all sorts and none of these three nations look likely to become the next great Majatran nation.
There is one outlier though. Kafuristan in recent decades has seen a surge not common in recent times. A new government backed up and intertwined with the army has been able to stabilize the country and it has survived some major domestic hurdles to clear. Though far from currently being a Majatran power player it looks to have a firm base from which to grow.

WEST MAJATRA

Eastern Majatra too has its share of problems. Deltaria is in no position to exert influence abroad given domestic economic troubles, however it is not in a life threatening situation currently. The country has a lot of ground to make up and while probable to be part of any coalition it looks unlikely to be the new power bearer in Majatra.
Jakania, the unstable, often deadly nation is like a black hole. It can hardly stabilize itself and outside powers can only tolerate the maddening intrigue of Jakanian politics for so long before they often give up and leave. Currently the nation is trying to determine its future. And by that I mean which part of the vicious cycle of foreign domination, monarchy, military dictatorship or fanatical religious theocracy it wants to be a part of next. Yet despite its often weak position, Jakania often is on the winning side of coalitions and can pose as a major impediment to any coalition. Its sizeable (though poor quality) military has often played a decisive role in Majatran affairs by accident or purpose or as is most likely a mix of both. It was Jakanian troops that bought time for the Czar by holding back the Zards long enough in the Lake Majatra Wars (Zardic commanders of the time even begrudgingly said the army gave a decent account of itself at the Battle of Harji which delayed the Zardic timetable by crucial weeks) and it was Jakanian troops that formed an important part of the Augustan Empire and during the Jelbic wars managed to fight back against the invader. I expect Jakania to be aggressively courted by any power player here and I predict they will be on the winning side, as happens to be their luck on international affairs.
Cobura, their western neighbor will most likely be an accessory to Zardugal should they be able to mount a comeback. While many in Cobura protest the designation of the country as a lackey of Zardugal, they have become one of the staunchest allies to the nation and given the historical and ethnic ties this should remain.
Finally there is Zardugal herself. Her moment under the Sun as the Augustan Empire proved what she is capable of. Yet is also shows how quick the mighty can fall. Zardugal is in ruins and needs to begin reconstruction now if it hopes to compete again.
Two other nations, Jelbania and Vanuku also fall into this category. Jelbania, while stable is more concerned about domestic politics at the moment and regardless to say Jelbania has recently played the role of ally and independently most likely wont become the next power player. Then of course there is Vanuku. The one nation that hardly changes and largely keeps to itself. Vanuku is stable, prosperous and has a well respected military along with contacts from Luthori and respect worldwide. Yet it choses to remain the hermit of Majatra.

CONCLUSION
Unless Vanuku wakes up and decides to become a regional power player, Kafuristan looks most likely to be the new Majatran power player. Its stable, has a well trained army and has long been a centre of Ahmadist power and prestige. If it can play its cards right Kafuristan might well be a new Majatran power. The only possible competitors are Vanuku (unlikely), maybe Deltaria (unlikely) or a re-vitalized Zardugal. However given the amount of repair that needs to be done to my country, it is safe to say that Kafuristan now has its best opportunity to push its influence. Selucia is too distracted, Solentia, Istalia and Vanuku all suffer from a strain of isolationism, Deltaria is weak while both Kalopia and Jakania are too embroiled in domestic turbulence to be anything major while Barmenia is but a distant nuisance to the north. Cobura and Jelbania similarly are no major threat and indeed hardly power players on their own.

A CHANGE IN TERRA GEO-POLITICS
Image
Chief Foreign Correspondent, Kathrine Lewis, Limenstomo Tribune
November 2, 3716

While this news organization primarily focuses on Majatran affairs, one today cannot look at Majatran affairs and the state they are in without looking at a broader realignment of the Terran geopolitical order. From an Artanian dominated world to one of many competing power centres, from one based on old national alliances and organizations to a world filled with political vitality (even if it is violent) and new movements. From radical shakeups of domestic political shakeups to the increasingly fluid international sphere I hope to dive into the increasingly tense race worldwide to see who can win the global chess match.

MAJATRA
Image
Burned out mosque in Al-Kasraj

The communist uprising (or revolution) in Kafuristan is one of the defining political moments of the still yet young century and seems destined to define the terms of power politics in the continent. Kafuristan has always been one of the more violent and volatile countries on the continent and yet another rebellion against the old Razamid government was all but expected. However few thought it would succeed and fewer still thought it would last this long. The delicate balance of power has come crashing down in Majatra and a new order is forging itself across the continent.
As usual there are two camps into which the continent can be divided into. The Kafuri camp which consists of the radical communist leftists has at the moment limited support but is increasing its influence and power by the day. The other camp is for the moment the more powerful and is led by the perennial regional power of Zardugal. This includes organizations like the MU and MSCO which are heavily influenced by Zardic actions. So far the Zards have been the most outspoken and most driven anti-Kafuri communist advocates and are trying to whip up international support against the regime. Bringing a diverse coalition of partners (including normally neutral Cildania) into participating in the rescue mission shows the lengths to which the Zards will go to contain this threat. Both sides are preparing for a long and gray conflict with the Zards enacting a multitude of sanctions and pushing hard on the diplomatic scene while propping up a Government in Exile in Belgae. All the while arming the new Kafuri Republican Army and there are talks of setting up and backing a domestic rebel movement in Kafuristan itself though that project is the farthest off.
So what can we expect from the continent of Majatra? Well, for one the continent, as usual will be at the centre or certainly the forefront of the battle to change international global politics. While few Majatran nations can claim to have been once great world powers, or even emerging world powers, the endless struggles and wars of the continent continue to draw in outside players, most of whom cannot navigate the waters of Majatran power politics and all its contradictions, and intrigue. Zardugal and Kafuristan once again seem set to dominate the battle for political sway in Majatra. A Kafuri led communist alliance could be in the offering though at the moment few Majatran nations look ready to succumb to the cancer of communism. Meanwhile the Zards have scored important early political victories in integrating Selucia into the MU and MSCO while also integrating several allies into the MSCO as well.
However, a talk about Majatran politics would be incomplete without discussing the role of Vanuku. Long the continents isolated country, the nation has moved steadily out of its shell over the past several decades. Now Vanuku is an active member of the Majatran scene but it has achieved something rare in Majatran power politics, independence of action. The strong Vanukuean economy, robust political system and a well trained and capable armed forces all allow Vanuku a rare freedom to act and it appears at the moment Vanuku is treading cautiously. While alarmed at the rise of the communists in Kafuristan and taking part in the mission to rescue the trapped MU personnel in Al-Kasraj, Vanuku has also been quiet about further action unlike the public Zards. While many think Vanuku has a dis-favorable disposition to communism, the country seems to want to keep its independence and not be seen as too close a Zardic ally. Combined with their Artanian allies and they have the power and means to possibly reshape the Majatran political order on their own. What will come we will have to see.....

HOUSE VERrELL-HUTORI
Image
Celebrations ceremony in Luthori

In quite possibly one of the most under-reported and stunning power grabs of all time is the swift moves the House Verell-Hutori has made to take the thrones of Hutori, Keymon and most surprisingly Luthori. For centuries, different branches of the House of Orange-Villyan has battled themselves to determine who can rule and who cannot and in a move of surprising and grand politics, the House of Verrell-Hutori has become one of the most powerful families in monarchical politics. Uniting the thrones of Hutori, Keymon and Luthori under one family and crown has been the goal of many for centuries but has only just been realized.
It is unknown as to what the effects of these events will have on the broader geopolitical sphere but there is a great deal of power concentrated in one house now and that power could play an important role in the future of the Terran geopolitical chess match. Whether they get sucked into Majatran politics remains to be seen but cannot doubt they are watching the rise of the communists with great worry for their own regime....

DORVIK IS BACK...AGAIN?
Image
World Cup in Dorvik

Dorvik has long been a nation which has been listed as among the top tier for development and economy. Its infrastructure is impressive and its economy is considered to be one of the strongest in the world. Yet Dorvik has not been an active participant in the world for several centuries. While generally well run domestically, few major foreign policy announcements have been made from the country or set out? But that could be changing. The Social Nationalist Party is back in power and has allies all throughout the government. It also recently established the Collective Security and Cooperation Organization, which has already attracted medium and great powers from across Terra. Though still able to generate buzz and big announcements like this, what is the future of Dorvish foreign policy?
The substance of a Dorvish foreign policy is still in doubt as the challenges to Terra mount. With the surging of communists across Terra representing a challenge to worldwide stability or the possibility of another Majatran conflict growing out of control a strong Dorvish foreign policy is absent. A stalled Artanian Union policy and the World Cup hosting seem to be the end of the Dorvish foreign policy for now but many hope that a new active Dorvik will soon begin swinging its weight around. If not, Dorvik may well lose its influence world wide and find a different Terra awaits it very very soon.

GADURIDOS
Image
A leftist revolution is sweeping the country

Gaduridos, while an upstanding member of the international community, has never really been considered to be a player in international politics. However with the rise of global communist movements, the country can be considered ground zero for that movement. After sharply rejecting a trade treaty with the Zards, the country has seen increased levels of polarization and rise of violent communist elements. The Revolutionary movement in Gaduridos most acutely represents this movement and with the fall of the National Party, a leftist majority now exists in the country's parliament.
While these domestic elements are concerning they are being fueled abroad too. The Kafuri Communists are strongly backing striking workers across the country and are backing the main left wing parties there while the Dark-Light Green Communist Party is actively and openly supplying arms to revolutionary movements worldwide. The country has now become an object of communist consequences to some and as a model of revolution to the others. As a member of the CSCO and former long time Zardic relation, it remains to be seen how the conflict will continue to evolve...

CONCLUSION

Terra is changing in ways no one could have imagined. Old rivalries and divides are crashing down and new ones being erected. Some power struggles retain similar characteristics while new players jump on the scene and steal the spotlight from declining ones. For one of the few times in Terran history, no one nation can claim to be either a global superpower or a possible global power. Dorvik retains the influence of centuries of power but cannot yet translate that into a successful foreign policy, with even their new CSCO venture not rising to meet the responses of the new world. Zardugal is locked in a power struggle with Kafuristan and will spend most of its resources trying to keep a coherent coalition of Majatran states against the communists while trying to halt the spread elsewhere. Kafuristan will be doing the exact opposite but still will have a great impact on world policy. Gaduridos has become the epicenter of the communist movement and will likely be the country of intrigue for all those who seek world power.
Combined with rising powers like Hutori and Vanuku who have the means to chart independent courses along with regional powers of Indrala and Dankuk and one can possibly see a world that has no more uniting powers but squabbling regional powers locked in constant struggle for supremacy.

THE FORGOTTEN "OTHER" KAFURISTAN
Image
The secluded Kafuri Chancery, just outside of Belgae
By: Robert Dean Jerome, Chief Majatran Correspondant for the Limenostomo Tribune

When the Communist Revolution in Kafuristan erupted in the late 3710's, a government in exile was formed by Benjamin Ali Mobarat, who had a PhD in International Economics and several members of the expatriate community from around Majatra. The Government in exile was crucial in rallying support against the Kafuri Communists and provided a direct alternative to the rule there. After the military coup that brought down the regime secured power, the Government in Exile receded from public attention as it tried to warn the rest of us about the slide backwards for the Kafuri People. Being the only duly recognized government as per Zardic legislation, the return of troubles between Zardugal and Kafuristan has promoted renewed interests in the self proclaimed Majatran Republic of Kafuristan. So who are they? What have they been doing since the 3720's and what path lies ahead?

In January of 3729, as Kafuristan suffered under the rule (or misrule) of the military President Ben Mobarat called for a convention of Kafuri exiles and refugees called the Assembly of Kafuri People. Over 250 expatriates from all over Terra, leaders of their Kafuri communities assembled in a hotel in Venetio and began addressing the question of a Kafuri Government in Exile. Previously the government envisioned a future based on moderate Ahmadism (which was tacitly backed by the religious leaders of Kafuristan before the military began tightening control), republicanism and Pan-Majatranism. However most of the exiles were businessmen, members of the old intelligesta, former human rights and democratic reform acvtivists against the old Razamid Caliphate and the remnants of the middle and upper class. From this 7 month meeting came radical reforms to the Govt in Exile and the way the Kafuri exiles would interact with their breathern in Kafuristan. The Declaration on the Rights of the Kafuri People was a revolutionary document and achieved near universal support among the exile community. It called for a secular republic based on Kafuri tradition and culture to be established with Ahmadism having a "special" place in the future of the country and working as part of a Pan-Majatran organization. To implement these goals the entire Government in Exile was reformed. President Mobarat stepped down calling for a new generation of Kafuri leaders to take up the "struggle of peace, freedom and independence for Kafuristan." In his place a whole new group of exiles took power. Basing its authority on the Basic Law of Kafuristan, designed to be an interim constitution for the Government in Exile, the new President of the Majatran Republic became Muhammed Bin Kasra, a former banker and businessman from Al-Kasraj. Since then the new President has been busying himself around trying to build up the Govt in Exile and unite the exile community.

Using the de jure recognition from Zardugal and sympathetic persons in the Foreign and Internal Affairs ministries, President Kasra was able to secure multiple citizenship permission for the exile community, permanent refugee status (which allows refugees to work in Zardugal) and the release of some 5 billion LOD from frozen accounts dating back to the days of the Razamids. With the new funds, he went on a whirlwind tour of Kafuri exile community funding the construction of new community centres, mosques, schools and other needs for the Kafuri people. New "cultural organizations" popped up all across Majatra organizing the community, while members of the exile community were selected to form the Kafuri National Council (KNC) the quasi-legislative arm of the Govt in Exile which represents the disparate communities and works on behalf of their interests.

However not all is rosy. The military government in Kafuristan is slowly but surely tightening its grip on the country. Free press has been drastically restricted, border crossings are tightly monitored and access from the outside world, espcially from an organization based in Zardugal is heavily restricted. A few weeks ago, President Kasra was the target of an attempted assainination by suspected gunmen hired or supplied by the Kafuri General Intelligence Directorate during a trip to Auroria in Selcuia to visit exiles there. Though he survived along with men of his security detail, the incident shook him as it was the most serious threat to his life in his time as president. In response an Office of Special Affairs was created to protect the Government in Exile and the broader Kafuri Exile Community from infiltration by the dictatorial government in Kafuristan.

As things stand now, the Kafuri Government in Exile is the only main opposition group to the regime there. It has the support of the exile community and certainly has the funds to stay relevant. However the longer it stays out of power, the more foreign it becomes. Despite having some private, lukewarm support in the middle and upper classes of Kafuristan, the government has so restricted the information flow that reliable information is not easily obtainable in Kafuristan. Further they have a problem with the large poor population of the country. They view its leaders as members of the urban upper class who don't understand their problems or interests. Meanwhile so long as an alternative exists and has the power among the exile community that the Govt in Exile does, a threat to the military regime exists.

THE COMING REVOLUTION IN TERRAN ENERGY GEO-POLITICS
Image
The MPEC test drilling platform being towed from harbor in Baltusia
By: Ryan Jerima, former Deputy Defense Minister (Strategic Planning and Policy), Diane Mathis, former Deputy Infrastructure Minister (Energy) and Daniel Harinan, former analyst for the Department of International Business and Trade and current economist at the Centre for Terran Political Economy based in Venetio

There's a coming energy revolution and it's about to turn the Terran power structure on its head. For as long as anyone can remember, one could speak about energy politics without speaking about oil, and the sources of such oil, namely Kafuristan, Jakania and Dorvik. These three nations have long dominated the energy markets of the world supplying their own seemingly monopolized oil and gas wealth all over the world. Kafuristan and Jakania have long been leaders in Majatra of energy extraction with the proceeds fueling whatever corrupt regime dominated the country at the time. Some oil revenues have even been linked to the funding of terrorist organizations. To try and reduce dependence on oil, many states attempted many creative solutions from using unconventional drilling techniques to tap limited reserves of natural gas in their borders and investment in renewable energy. Looking for the Zardic experience we have used all solutions possible. Limited natural gas reserves in Ingomo State are fracked as it is called, producing some domestic energy supply. For electricity needs however, the Zards have been investing massively in renewable energy. Offshore windfarms are popular and spreading off the coast of Sakevjo, where the state now takes 15% of energy production from wind power. Endirhao and Unkaso have initiated wind and solar power schemes with 9 and 11 percent of total energy needs being met respectively from renewable energy. However nuclear power has been our biggest success. Nationally, some 30% and growing of our total energy production comes from nuclear energy and that total grows everyday.
Yet our vulnerability has long been instability of oil markets in Jakania and Kafuristan. We all remember the high prices of oil when production was regularly interrupted in Kafuristan over the past several decades and when Luthori shut off Jakanian energy exports to anyone that is not Luthori. High prices, domestic tensions over fuel shortages were part of the result. Another result was an increase in public transit development and usage. All major Zardic cities have mass transit system whether its Kostandian Bay's unconventional subway system, the light rail project in Limenostomo or the bus system of Belgae. Zards own fewer and fewer personnel cars while usage of mass transit and car pooling become increasingly more popular.
Yet what has happened in the last few years is sure to shake up the entire system. Jakania and Kafuristan along with Dorvik are about to see their energy dominance challenged. For decades they have ruled the markets but a series of fortunate events have led to new reserves being accessed with new and better drilling technologies. Let's start at the source of this oil boom: North Seleya.

For the last several years North Seleya was hardly a success story. Anyone who lightly follows Gaduri politics is shown not only how chaotic it is, but sometimes how many different competing can win against each other and nothing gets done. Baltusia was hardly a success story with a long history of incompetent left wing governments, populist politicians who robbed the country blind and usually fled to Selucia or Artania to retire in luxury or right wing anarchists who spent more time kowtowing to vested economic interests and not state interest. Lodamun however drew the most ire. For years the country suffered under a broad range of sanctions for its near genocide of Hosians and religious minorities who didn't conform to the radical Lodamese Nationalism faith if it can be called that. Still today tensions remain with the Zardic Federation still maintaining the label of Foreign Terrorist Organization against the Great National Republican Guard.
Yet much has changed in the last few years. After the election of a reformist government which made bold moves to end the persecution and reduce the power of extremists, the sanctions began to be lifted. And with the lifting of sanctions, the return of business came swiftly. Interest has grown in the nearby offshore oil reserves too. With the reluctance of Telamon to help extract the reserves, Lodamun has evolved as the possible centre of a North Seleya energy boom. Many international oil corporations, especially Zardic ones have been aggressively courting the Lodamese Government for joint venture contracts to go and tap the reserves. Plans afloat would turn Port Golavia into a major energy trading hub for the North Seleya region and given its strategic position on one of the worlds major trade routes, it is not hard to see Lodamun rapidly increasing its geopolitical capital in the coming years if reserves can be successfully tapped.
Baltusia is the other end of this nexus of oil reserves. Though only having a small coastline, the country is primely positioned to take advantage of nearby oil reserves and has made several serious attempts to do so. Baltusian and Zardic companies have already formed the East Seleyan Oil Consortium (ESOC) to handle the massive joint venture and Kostandian Bay Maritime Corporation has already begun renovating Baltusian harbors for the coming trade boom. Oil is expected to start flowing by 3750 with full production online by 3757. A proposed pipeline is also being looked at by the Baltusian and Lodamese Governments over linking the two nations as the sanctions regime is slowly dismantled.

These two north Seleyan nations, which are set to become major energy exporters have changed the global balance of power in terms of energy. Kafuristan and Jakania no longer hold their sway in the energy markets and Dorvik is now having to deal with more energy competition on the matter as well. A saturated oil market would bring prices down for the first time in decades while giving the world economy a much needed energy boost. This in turn could fuel stabilization and development in less resource rich nations and bring them out of poverty as well. The benefits are endless and the changes much profound.

HUMAN RIGHTS UNDER THREAT ACROSS MAJATRA AND TERRA

Written by: PhD Jerimah Welvins, former Assistant Policy Minister (Human Rights) in the Zardic Foreign Ministry; Ellen Drosio, former Director-General of the Majatran Agency for Human Rights and current President of the Majatran Observatory on Human Rights
October 7, 3752

We have all seen the news reports of the last several years. Anti-Hosian pogroms in Lodamun, Dorvish ignorance of Kafuri human rights crimes, Luthorian crimes in Alduria and Jakania. The world is seeing first hand how far human rights have fallen in Terra and once again, how modest progress has been nearly erased in Majatra which has long struggled on these issues. In the latest report from the Majatran Agency for Human Rights, the official MU watchdog group for the continent, almost all nations fell on the scale of protection of basic human rights with only one (Vanuku) being able to register a rise.
Yet paradoxically, the human rights situation has never before been so open and transparent across Terra in recent memory. Ever since the International Human Rights Movement collapsed under Deltarian intrigue in the early 3500's, the worldwide human rights situation has been bleak. Yet today the tide is slowly turning which leads us to believe this is but a trial phase in the push for worldwide human rights. Just a couple of decades ago groups like the Civil Rights Council and the United Justice Council would have been panned and largely ignored. But yet today activists are the most daring and hopeful they've been in generation. The narrative has decisively changed from one of largely sweeping human rights abuses under the rug in light of grand geo-strategic concerns to one of having to confront human rights actions as part of basic political calculus. Important questions are now being asked at this critical juncture. What is the future of foreign policy and its relations to human rights issues? How did we get here? And most critically, can this wave of democratization and support for human rights be sustained into the future? To start our journey we must look not here in Majatra, but in Lodamun, which is arguably the epicenter of the current wave of human rights focus worldwide.

When many think of Lodamun today they think not of the Karav's, whose financial dynasty was legendary (and is still massive in some aspects) or its position as a middle ranking power in Seleya. They think of it in terms of the Hosian genocide that occurred there. For over a century the Government has persecuted followers of Hosianism and other faiths that challenged the supremacy of the government sanctioned and backed Lodamese Nationalist "faith" which called for undying loyalty to the state. When the regime was implemented hardly a word was said. Indeed it went largely unreported in the national presses and the then small activist community didn't have the star power or financial resources to promote human rights abuses like they do now.
However one faithful day that all changed. In early July of 3722, a man by the name of Walter Schmitz. A reverent Hosian in a country which ruthlessly persecuted them, his actions have been credited with launching the modern human rights movement. He founded a group called the Conservative Monarchist Alliance, dedicated to liberal religious laws and the restoration of Lodamese culture and society to before the rise of the secular republic and Lodamese Nationalism. He petitioned the government to end the genocidal laws and was promptly arrested and executed. Now in prior days, such notions would be lightly, if ever condemned but a sea of change aligned the stars right for a human rights movement to take off, which is exactly what happened.
As word spread throughout Terra on the braveness of such an act, and for a religion that is so engrained and a part of the regular life of hundreds of millions of everyday people it created a firestorm which channeled itself into rising political movements of the day. The Communist government of Baltusia, revolted at the actions taken led the way in condemning the actions and enacted the first sanctions which would eventually put Lodamun into a sort of siege. Soon thereafter a short lived political movement in Kirlawa, called the Kirlawan Liberals also condemned the actions and began using its recently built international relationships in the Civil Rights Council to organize opposition.
Zardugal soon joined the fray with it enacting some of the tightest sanctions to date and throwing out the Karav Financial Services group. Soon dozens of other countries joined from neighboring Valruzia and Gaduridos to Vanuku and Aloria. The Lodamese Government could no longer try and exterminate a people wholesale. A new era had arisen. Since the events of that fateful day in 3722, the modern international human rights movement has taken off and led to a sea of profound changes to policy worldwide. It has illuminated troubles beyond all recognition in the world and yet it has also unleashed powerful new forces in Terra which are leading to a remake of the political map in the world.
In Lodamun, success has been forthcoming. Hosianism was decriminalized by a coalition of reformist minded parties which then enacted some civil liberties protection and judicial reforms. However success there is stagnant and risks falling back to the bad old days with the National Republican Guard threatening consistently to revive Hosian persecution. It is a similar story elsewhere in Terra where the initial success of the movement has run up against the old guard of each country. Perhaps this is no where more evident than here in Majatra.

Majatra is a rough and tumble continent where only the most daring and politically astute can survive. A myriad of ethnic groups, spread hectically across the map, a unique geography and arcane grudges and feuds from long passed historical eras have all conspired at various times to hold our great continent back. However the human rights movement has landed on our shores and the problems it has illuminated are real and have a devastating impact on our people. Perhaps some of the most affected nations are Kafuristan and Kalopia, now renamed Wantuni.
Kafuristan has had little luck in finding moderate and/or liberal leaders. The Razamid Caliphate, which enacted hardline Ahmadi policies throughout the nation was supplanted by a communist regime which further traumatized the country. Not even 10 years later the communist regime was overthrown in a coup by corrupt and power hungry generals who were in turn overthrown by another set of generals who have co-opted the religious leaders of the country to form a weird theocratic militarist regime. One thing has been clear from this however, ordinary people are suffering along with a variety of religious minorities and regime opponents. Regular purges are conducted by whichever regime is in power which are designed to clear the regime of any opponents. The middle class has been savaged by these purges and together with the intellectual class and most of the upper professional class has left the nation leaving a massive skills deficit. The new military regime has been described as criminal and gangster like in some circles for its very open backing of radical Ahmadi terror groups in Barmenia and Zardugal and its high tolerance for terrorist recruitment and support operations only makes the situation worse. Many security and human rights experts and analysts blame the recent destabilization of Majatra on Kafuri funded and backed terror groups.
Kalopia has had even worse luck in the course of events. For centuries the nation has been fiercely divided between ethnic Kalopians and Wantuni who both accuse the other of genociding and oppressing the other and whenever each group is in power, frequently oppresses the other. Activists inside the country say with the rise of the Queranzari Council, the situation has only gotten worse. Reports describe rampant discrimination by the new Wantuni leadership against the largely Hosian Kalopian people. Whether it is denial of fair trials, to political persecution the situation is dire and only growing worse in the country as it becomes partner to Kafuristan in backing radical Ahmadi groups worldwide.

Yet even here in Zardugal there is trouble. The Government in Belgae is increasingly obsessed and worried about terrorism. With Kafuri backing of the terrorists strongly suspected, the issue of domestic discord has been transformed into one of a major national security concern with foreign implication. This has led to the sidelining of real domestic concerns such as the over use of force and the status of Mallan and Ahmadi minorities in the country which has long suffered with such a minority underclass.

Despite the setbacks there is reason for optimism. Despite human rights concerns being overruled by national security concerns, the Congress passed the 3rd Amendment to the Constitution which finally enacted into constitutional law the Federation Charter on Human Rights, a long sought after goal. The CMA continues to call for greater civil liberties in Lodamun and has kept international attention on the issue. The Majatran Union has taken a more strident tone in human rights with proposed arms and energy embargoes on Kafuristan and a stronger MAHR being more willing to criticize human rights situations. However challenges remain. Dorvik and Indrala continue to block human rights progress in the CSCO, an emerging global governance institution. Dorvish backing of the Kafuri regime without question or even the mildest public concern for human rights troubles many activists while Indrala's past support for the GNRG in Lodamun has raised fears it would block any serious human rights proposals that threaten that position or its Dovani supremacist aspirations. We have come very far since the dark days of oppression when the GNRG built its genocidal structure to oppress Hosians and not a word was said. Yet more must be done and done now.

Will be appropriate for Majatra that a Slave and Theocratic Nation occupies the Majatran seat in the Security Council?
Message from the Istalian Foreign Affairs Ministery to all the Nations of the Majatran Union

I salute you, Nations and Parties member of the Majatran Union,
I call all Majatran members of the Union to reflect on the current electoral session to the seats of the Security Council of the World Congress.

I would like bring to your attention the current candidature of Jelbania. The Union of Majatran and its organization, the New Pan-Majatran Union Coalition, are founded in the name of the respect of the Human Rights and the diffusion of those principles.
So, I invite all the Majatran Nations that believe in those principles to join Istalia in a Majatran Dialogue to talk about how it will be appropriate that a Nation were is accept the slavery and that openly declared to want sit on the Security Council "to promote Ahmadi ideals to other representatives on the Council, to influence the Council's decision-making in our favor." will occupy the Majatran seat in the Security Council.

My party, the Istalian Social Liberal Party, when it was not inside the Istalian Government, already asks to the only Party of Jelbania, the Jelbék Ám'ádsrlji Rekvaknsé Prta, something about its positions and despite it assure to me that Jelbania will not try to impose Ahmadi law or ideology on the rest of the world, and that it want only work to defend the Ahmadi interests against the larger powers", Istalia Government still think it would be very inappropriate that a theocratic regime whose economy is fueled by slavery, that allows the use of torture and that imposes the obligation to adhere to religious principles in spite of the free choice of its citizens, will represent the entire Majatra and all the Majatran Nations.

Majatra is not a continent that hosts Ahmadi Nations and Peoples only, and we believe that it will be more appropriate for the Seat B to choise a nation less ideologically radicalized.

So I invite all the member of the Union to discute of this situation.

Thank you.

The Regnum of Selucia was asked to support that Nation, but it was refused as it was said to their Minister. The Regnum of Selucia would not tolerate any nation that puts religion above everything else, including human rights

Jelbania is the reason that the Kingdom of Vanuku came back on their decision not to campaign. We are now campaigning because we can not stand idly by as a theocratic slaver state crawls towards representing our entire continent. That is an utter disgrace and we can not let it happen! Human rights, religious liberty and many more things are at stake if we let the Jelbanians win.

Say NO to slavers! Vote Vanuku.
