Paulus VII condemns secularism in society
Religion is not the issue, but the answer

his Holiness has condemned secularism today in his weekly address to the crowds.

Image

Empyrean Temple, 3905 - "The real danger to our world comes not from any division likely to result from religious education or profession. It comes rather from the threatening disintegration of our social life due to the weakening of religion as a constructive force. With the decline of religious belief, the increase of divorce and family disintegration has become a national scandal. With the break-up of the family juvenile delinquency has shown an alarming increase. Consequent upon the weakening of religion there has been a lowering of moral standards which has resulted in public corruption — and this in turn threatens all respect for law and public authority. We , as the head of the Church, call for an act of conscience on behalf of the people of Terra to renounce the empty promises of secularism and embrace once again the power of Elyahu. Celebrate marriage, and end divorce. Celebrate life, and end abortion. Seek charity, and not richness. Grant freedom of religion and stop the intellectual and legal persecution of religion, and Hosianity in particular.
The immanent threat to our country comes not from divisiveness but from irreligious social decay. The truly religious man is certain to be one who treasures all those ideals which religion helped to build into this nation. To the man who is lacking in religious belief nothing in the end is likely to be sacred, nothing worth preserving. In that direction lies the real danger to our country. To all the people and politicians of Terra I say: convert your hearts to Elyahu. In the name of our lord, amen"

Father,

It is with great pleasure that I can submit my annual report on the state of the Patriarchal Church and religion in general in Egelion to the Holy Papacy.

I am pleased to say that in the fifth year of the Junta that governs effectively, honourably and with respect for the Church, we continue to see growth in the numbers attending mass, growth in the role of the Church in society and in education and most importantly society is being ordered in accordance with the timeless values of the Church.

Church attendance

I can report that the Church is very healthy in its interaction with society at large and in the support for the Church from the people. A government estimate suggests that three quarters of the population adhere to the Patriarchal Church, based on baptisms, marriages and funerals. A census is currently being compiled that is likely to confirm this. Church attendance has significantly increased in the last five years and nearly two fifths of the population are assessed to regularly attend mass.

Liturgy is conduced according to the Seleucian Rite, although primarily in the Egelion language except for the traditional Easter and Christmas ceremonies. Each Province has a an Archbishopric, with primacy afforded to the Archbishop of Amateria. Each Province is split into ten Diocese. With additional Bishops for the Armed Forces, and two Bishops to cater for Egelions in the rest of Keris and Dovani, there are a total of 55 Bishops. Church building has had to occur in many dioceses due to the recent expansion in the numbers of regular worshippers.

Unfortunately there are still a small number of Patriarchal dissidents who worship according to the Terran Patriarchal Church liturgy and rites.te They have their own Archbishop and ten Bishops who cater to their followers. However, their numbers decrease year on year and do not seriously challenge the Holy Apostolic Hosian Church of Terra for religious authority in Egelion although it is worth noting that some of the more conservative members of the Junta are Terran Patriarchals.

Image

Church attendance is healthy and in many areas continues to grow.

The Church in society

The Church plays a key role in society. Following the establishment of the Patriarchal Church in 3985 the Church has seen its role increase rapidly, especially in the area of education. Only the Patriarchal Church is allowed to establish and run schools and furthermore prayer is mandatory in all school, again, led by the Patriarchal Church. This gives the Church an important new pulpit to ensure that society develops according to the principles of the faith and not according to any secularist nonsense that might otherwise corrupt youth.

Image

Education is firmly in the hands of the Church.

Church and State

The Church and State continue to exhibit close ties. The Junta and Armed Forces retain strong support for the Church and in return the Church have influenced the social measures that the Junta have introduced. The Junta is socially conservative and we can only support their measures that have almost eliminated abortion and ensured protection for the traditional family. Although we would like to see a return to democracy in Egelion the Church must continue to support the Junta in its attempts to ensure the rule of law is protected and that conservative values are enshrined in the constitution. Once this is achieved the Church retains its faith in the Junta's promises to return democracy to Egelion.

Image

Relations between the Junta and Church are strong.

Threats

Communism and atheism remain the primary threats to the true Church in Egelion. Heretical Hosian beliefs are in place, however remain largely supported by minority groups, such as immigrants from Dovani or the Zyldav community. Ethnic Egelions have converted to Luthoran Churches, but in small numbers and with the current state support for the Patriarchal Church this is being reversed in some communities. A Communist Party exists, although with marginal influence in Egelion. However, if the Junta were to suddenly collapse it would fill us with worry for the future, although we place our faith in a higher body to ensure our continued strength in Egelion.

The Future

As I see it the Patriarchal Church is in its best position in decades. Protected from secularism and atheism, assured of its special established place in Egelion, with a key role in education we have been given a unique opportunity to promote our faith across the country and develop the steady growth of the faithful flock. The Junta has pursued other measures to allow senior figures of the Church membership of the Senate.

Image

Proposed constitutional reform will see Bishops sit in a new second chamber.

Conclusion

Father, as you can see, times are good for the faith in Egelion. I will keep you updated of future developments.

Your faithfully, your loyal servant,

Cardinal Julius D'Evulva

ooc: Apologies for the grave dig, but I considered this the best place to post this.
The Junta Militar of Egelion. Seized power in March 3983 in order to restore law, order and respect to Egelion. Democracy will be restored once the threat of anarchy passes.

Benedict VII invites the world to unify the efforts to aid the most vulnerable and those most in need
The Holy See warns the world also about the communist super-state in Majatra but the health conditions of the Holy Father stir the whole church

Empyrean Temple, 4215 - From the Holy See comes the Holy Father's appeal to the international community to defend those most exposed to the effects of a crisis which seems to be unable to find an end, namely the most vulnerable and the most in need of the society.
Of course, the Holy See also wanted to warn the irresponsible Hutorian Government which, led by nationalist and isolationist policies, seems completely disinterested in the consequences of the recent decision not to intervene to save the hutorian banking system.
The Holy Father, by the voice of Cardinal Secretary of State, His Eminence Albrecht Meyer, wanted to express his appeal to the world in this way:

Image

It is generatig sadness and dismay in the heart of the Holy Father the suffering that this long and difficult global economic crisis is generating in millions of people around the world. Since the 4204 this hateful crisis has generated economic but above all social problems, and despite the Holy See recognizing the commitment of many nations to protect their peoples, it cannot but call on the world, in the face of an even more serious collpase, to unite the efforts in the spirit of solidarity and compassion, to rediscover to be a unique and large community of nations and peoples, aware that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Solidarity and piety towards the most needy too is the antidote against modern radicalism and implies the ability of each member to solidify with each other. Because if everyone thinks only of their own interests, the world can only go to ruin. And it is in the fear and in the uncertainty that the most radical and violent idealisms and populisms find fertile ground for spreading their ideas by generating violence and opposition within society. In fact, the Holy See wants to warn those who are levereging on these sentiments to establish the socialist regime in the center of Majatra, and want warns the working class not to vent their anger through the ideas of revolution, of envy and hatred towards the richest, but at the same time asks to the employers to mitigate the attitudes towards the employees and to respect the needs of the workers.
The Holy See so wants reaffirm its opposition to radicalist experiments and declare that solidarity can be prevented by socialization. Society is separate from the state, and should not be subject to any social experiments by the governments. The leaders of the state has a responsibility to protect the natural rights of their citizens, but also to defend their nation's culture and society's freedom. Beacuse of this, we declare that radical egalitarianism is inherently evil, as God gave each man different traits that placed us on different levels of society. We believe that all individuals are equal in the sense that all are born with the same fundamental rights of life, property and tolerability, but not in the sense that all are to be forced into societal equality. We condemn such views as utopian and un-hosian and we invite the faithfuls to work inside the law to fight injustice and unethical phenomenas, and not against it.

The ever-increasing presence of Cardinal Meyer in the management in Auroria and press relations is, however, increasing the Church's concerns for the health conditions of the Holy Father. For more than seven months, the Arch-Patriarch has not appeared in public, except for a brief appearance during the past Easter blessing, and despite the secrecy of the Holy See on his health condition, the anxiety for the 88-year-old Benedict VII, born Ricardo Jiménez, is growing stronger, especially in light of the recent tensions between the two major components within the Aurorian Patriarchal Church.
Theognosian clergy in fact in the last century has been extensively engaged in promoting the Ecumenical Movement and carried on extensive exchanges and relations with many of the other separate Churches, a behavior heavily criticized by the Holy See, and primarily by the highly conservative Pontiff, who warned the aurorianists against the "deceit" and the "very serious mistake" concealed under the "attractive and caring" words of the so-called "Pancristians".
This cracking of the relationship between the two "Rites" has, in fact, become acute already twenty-two years ago as a result of the proposal by Ville des Saints to lend a hand to the rest of the hosian brothers, first of all hypothesizing the annulment of the reciprocal excommunications pronounced by the various hosian churches following the schisms that have been interested the Hosianism over the centuries.
To stir Auroria above all the specter of a Conclave dominated by the "progressive" cardinals, with the hard core of the "conservatives" now reduced to the ineligible and the highest ranks of the Empyrean Temple. The work of former Cardinal Secretary of State, His Eminence François Romilly, chosed fifteen years ago as a compromise to satisfy Villes des Saints, had led to the appointment of so many cardinals from the Theognosian Rite against whom nothing could be done the reactionary Meyer, finally appointed only six years ago.
As the most important Theognosian exponent is rising the Istalian Tommaso Brunori, Archbishop of Romula and Primate of Istalia, one of the strongest supporters of Ecumenism and who has already distinguished himself by entering into the merits of the diatribe around the euthanasia of former hutorian President Tiege Vernham, expressing a position much less rigid compared with the Holy See which instead strongly condamned the act in parallel with the reaction of the clergy of the Terran Patriarchal Church.

The Arch-Patriarch died after a long illness
Benedict VII passed away at the age of 91 leaving a Church in turmoil: requests for a changement from the Theognosians are even stronger

Empyrean Temple, 29 May 4218 - Dead knell began to sound throughout Auroria at 9.42 am and soon after the Cardinal Vicar of Auroria Lucius Claudius Barbatus, informed by the Camerarius, formally announced to the press and to the people the death of the Holy Father.
Benedict VII did not appear to the public for more than a year, from the Easter Blessing of 4217, which was, however, among the few occasions in the last five years during which the Pope has shown himself in public.
Cardinal Camerarius, Jean Baptiste Brunet, specified that the Holy Father had suffered from pancreatic cancer for about six years. After a painstaking therapy which seemed to have eradicated the illness unfortunately after a few months this came back and was therefore judged to be extremely malignant and difficult to treat. Benedict VII had therefore decided to devote himself to prayer and to prepare for the inevitable encounter with the Most High, resisting more than he had been diagnosed by doctors and above all without ever leaving the affairs of the Church: it was Benedict VII to warn the world and the faith from the new communist threat in central Majatra, condemned even more firmly a few months ago as a result of the rise of anti-clerical policies in the Socialist Federation.
Now the nine canonical mourners will wait for them during which for three days the wound will be exposed in the Mother Church of the entire Hosianist world, so will be held in the Empyrean Temple the state funeral which is expected to be attended by Heads of State and Government of the whole world and finally, between 15 and 20 days will be officially open the conclave to elect the new Michael's Successor.
As already announced, the next conclave will open up in the strong tensions within the Aurorian Church, tensions which for several decades have severed the unity between the two major rites of the Church, Selucian and Theognosian. In fact, within the latter, for almost a century, has began to spread what has been defined in a disdainful sense by the selucians as the Other Theology, on several occasions branded by Benedict VII himself as well as by his predecessor, Remigius XVIII, as an unacceptable thought which is likely to expire in Luthorian heresy.
Despite these criticism from the high, however, the defenders of Other Theology, which is officially indicated as the The Way of Christ Beyond the Millennial Quirinian Tradition (by Saint Quirinus, one of the most important Fathers of the Church ), grew in number and consensus, especially in Ville des Saints where in fact the intolerance for the constant predominance of the Selucians traditions within the Aurorian Church had increasingly exacerbated the relations between the two patriarchal seats. Much of the other theologians have always emphasized that much of the practice but also many dogmas in the Church have been the result of political impositions and influenced by traditions of peoples and civilizations in which the Church of the Origin developed and, above all, Augustan and Selucian ones.
The Holy See has always defended Tradition as a fundamental part of the doctrine of the Church and this movement within the Aurorian Confession has even been indicated as a Luthorian or Ameliorate by the most critical, concentrating in fact above all on the Annunciation rather than on other texts considered anyway canonical from the Aurorian Church.
And now, after the death of Benedict VII, the presence of many Theognosian cardinals who on several occasions have openly admitted some interest to the Other Theology has alerted Auroria and many of the world's greatest dioceses linked to the Selucian rite, whose number Benedict VII had attempted to oppose by appointing new Selucian cardinals six years ago in view of a forthcoming departure.
The fact that the pontiff has lived more than expectations has paradoxically allowed many of the new elected cardinals, all ahead of age, to overcome the limit age to be elected to the Arch-Patriarchate and therefore we must expect a conclave in which Theognosians will have a great weight and who could will associate with the cardinals from the Augustan Rite, especially from Zardugal, among which the Other Theology was also successful, due to ancient frictions with the Selucians, even dating back to the times of the Augustan Empire under which The "imperial" clergy and the one of the Holy See of Auroria competed to increase their influence.

Habemus Archipatriarchem: Paulus IX
After a long and difficult conclave finally the cardinals reached to elect the new head of the Aurorian Church: he is the former Archbishop of Romula and Primate of Istalia Tommaso Brunori

Image

Empyrean Temple, Auroria, 5 August 4218 - One of the longest conclaves of the last millennium and one of the most complicated was finally concluded and after months of black smoke, the famous chimney of the Justinian Chapel at 20.32 has finally lifted the long-awaited white smoke in front of the thousands of people who filled the square in front of the Mother of all the Churches.
Finally, at 9:45 pm, the new Arch-Patriarch, as tradizion, appeared at the central balcony of the Center of Hosianism acclaimed by the crowd and announced by the cardinal protodiacon with the traditional announcement:

Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum;
habemus Archipatriarchem:
Eminentissimum ac Reverendissimum Dominum,
Dominum Thomam Brunorium,
Sanctæ Oecumenicæ Apostolicæ Ecclesiæ Cardinalem Brunori
qui sibi nomen imposuit Paulus IX

Brunori, considered as the champion of the Theognosian rite, had been elevated to the cardinal purple on the strong pressure of the Patriarch of Ville des Saints about a year before the death of Benedict VII and the indiscretions which arrive from the corridors of the Empyrean Temple, seems that for about two months the selucian cardinals have tried in all ways to contrast him allied with those of the Hobrazian and Kathuran rites.
Finally, however, it is clear that the announced coalition between Theognosians, Augustans and then Coburans has been decisive for the election of the former Archbishop of Rome.
On choosing the name, the new Arch-Patriarch said he wanted to honor Paulus V, who, despite belonging to the Selucian Rite, is remembered as a conservative for the liturgy but progressive in the theological field. And the progressive term is well suited for the new Arch-Patriarch who has never hidden his sympathies for the movement Other Theology.
So we waiting for the first decisions of the Holy Father, but he has already demonstrated his anticonformism during his first speech in front of the faithful, a speech that began with a simple question: Do we really remember Eliyahu's most wonderful and important teaching?
The Holy Father therefore centered all his inaugural discourse on love and brotherhood among men, but also warned those who have departed from the faith, however pointing to them as lost sheep and alluding, also, to responsibility of the Church itself saing that rigidity and blindness orthodoxy, the absence of doubt about beliefs and preconceptions... these are evils which divide and distract men and destroy the loving work of our Lord Elyahu! I think it's time to rethink and reconsider a few things, but just another question: are all these instruments which help us to spread the Lord's love for his children and glorify the beauty and wonder of the creation of our Lord God?
So he also reiterated his conviction in ecumenism by pointing out once again that Eliyahu's message brings together billions of people and must be the one to guide peace and unity, first of all, among his followers, and hence the rest of the world.

Congratulations meanwhile come from all the dioceses of the world and therefore from most of the Terranee chancellery.

(OOC: Just looked at the Arch-Patriarch list on the wiki and I think there might've been a mistake as there are two Paulus VIIIs. Shouldn't he then be Paulux IX?)
