Aurorian Patriarchal Church

(OOC: To take effect after the reunion has been completed, but I think it'd be best to speed things up a little. After all, we are all agreed that the Arch-Patriarch should be Kalopian, Theognosian, and taking the name Justus XI, and I think also that he'll be played by me)

Habemus Archipatriarchem: Justus XI

Image
The new Arch-Patriarch, Cardinal Frangiskos Pneumadoulos, is a former Theognosian, but took his name to honour the Selucian Arch-Patriarch St. Justus III

Empyrean City, Auroria, Selucia - Following a surprisingly quick Conclave, white smoke was seen in St. Michael's square as the Faithful gathered for the traditional ritual surrounding an Arch-Patriarchal Conclave. Not soon after, it was announced through the time-honoured traditional formula, delivered by the Cardinal Archdeacon, that the Cardinals had elected as the first Arch-Patriarch following the Church's reunion the Kalopian Archbishop Frangiskos Pneumadoulos, and that he had taken the name Justus XI. The new Arch-Patriarch, before giving his first Archipatriarchal blessing to the gathered Faithful, greeted them in Selucian, Canrillaise and in his native Kalopian, a sign of unity. Uniquely, he asked them to mix before the blessing: "the Church is reunited once more. Therefore, let's take a little time before we pray for God's blessing. Consider moving around the Square a little until you're in the middle of people who do not speak your language, who have been raised in a different tradition. Then you'll realise, as I have and as all the Fathers of the Council have, that Faith is a universal language." Having waited a few minutes, during which the crowd moved slightly, he started his first blessing.

The new Arch-Patriarch's first act in his office was not entirely unexpected to those who know him. Though staunchly in the Augustan rite tradition of the Theognosian Church, Cardinal Pneumadoulos had become increasingly enthused by the cause of reunion between the two Aurorian Patriarchal Churches. Though he was born after the Council's first phase, one of his great teachers in seminary was Archbishop Christophoros of Helios, who attended and said in his memoirs to have been much moved by the events there. As a monk in the Augustan tradition, he devoted much of his time to reading the theologians of the other Patriarchal branches, a characteristic that was no doubt a factor in his appointment as Apostolic Delegate for the Theognosian Arch-Patriarch to heavily Selucian Patriarchal Egelion. Many who are close to the new Arch-Patriarch say that he became convinced through his cordial relations with the hierarchy there that a new attempt at reunion was possible and would in the end succeed.

The first few days of the Conclave, insiders in the Conclave had noted that the presence of a faction pressing for a Selucian Arch-Patriarch, whereas another favoured a Canrillaise candidate had deadlocked the Conclave. Then (some rumours say after supernatural signs), it is said that Cardinal Pneumadoulos emerged as a compromise candidate to lead the new Church by a growing faction who wanted a quick election. The 71-year old Kalopian prelate, though Theognosian, is not part of the main Canrillaise Theognosian rite, but hails instead from the Augustan Church. His diplomatic reputation as a bridge-builder will no doubt have helped secure his election. He reaffirmed this reputation by taking the name Justus XI, after St. Justus III, the former Selucian Arch-Patriarch who is honoured alongside the Theognosian Saint Pius II as the patron of the Church's newfound unity - a move which many say was taken to underline that he wished to be an Arch-Patriarch for all of the Church's 980 million faithful adherents.

The new Arch-Patriarch, who has already as his first official act ratified and promulgated the Apostolic Constitution of the Second Council of Auroria, Gaudent Pii Omnes, is expected to appoint new members of the Aurorian Convocations soon to assist him in the completion of the new Church's reunion.

☩The Egelonian Church Rejoices☩

The † Aurorian Patriarchal Church in Egelion †, mainly of ☩ Selucian Rite ☩, has celebrated the election of the new Arch-patriarch, a man who has profound ties to this country. Frangiskos Pneumadoulos, now Justus XI, was named by the then-Arch-Patriarch the Theognosian Delegate to Egelion, in virtue of his knowledge of Egelonian language and customs due to his partial Egelonian ancestry. As delegate, he worked and met many Egelonian prelates, had meetings with the king of Egelion, and also headed the only Theognosian Parish in Egelion, St Pius in Demar Solad. Cardinal Pneumadoulos was beloved by the Egelonian clergy and he had a primary role in mending relations between the two churches. During the movement for the re-convocation of the council in 3857, he stood with the Egelonian Church as a vocal proponent of the Ecumenical Meeting; his efforts in ecumenism are certainly part of the reasons the cardinals chose him.

"If it wasn't Pneumadoulos, the news of a ex-Theognosian Arch-patriarch would have been received skeptically here in Egelion" said Rodolfo Gutierrez, a 35 year old Egelonian government official "but today it is with great joy that we receive Justus XI". The populace has been expecting an Egelonian AP for long time, and despite being slightly dissapointed, the overwhelming majority of Egelonians consider themselves satisfied. Indeed, considering the fact that the Egelonian Cardinals outnumbered any other country, a satisfying result for Egelonian people was to be expected.

A vocal minority of Egelonians, those who still were hostile to the reunion, are currently expressing their discomfort. Yet, this small minority is likely to die out, especially since King Pedro Miguel; has express his utmost Joy for the election. He has delivered a short speech and expressed his desire to visit the A-P soon.

Arch-Patriarch visits Ville des Saints, issues bull elevating Theognosian Patriarch

Image

Ville des Saints - Concelebrating the Holy Revelation in the Cathedral at Ville des Saints with the Patriarch of Canrille according to the Theognosian Rite, His Holiness Justus XI has reached out to the millions of Theognosian Rite observers within the Church in what many describe as an attempt to prove that he, a former Theognosian from the Augustan Church, has not "gone native" in Auroria. In fluent Canrillaise, the leader of Terra's 980 million Patriarchal faithful said that he believed "... we should honour all places in the history of the Church where the work of Our Lord was done. We should honour Auroria because of the agency of St. Michel and the Church Fathers. Likewise should we honour Ville des Saints because of the agency and virtue of St. Pieux II and all his successors which led the Church back to unity."

After the Mass, the Arch-Patriarch, in the presence of the Patriarch, unveiled the first copy of an Archipatriarchal bull addressing the status of the Theognosian Patriarch. It recalled ancient Church teachings about a primacy of honour among Terra's Patriarchs which existed in the Holy Apostolic Hosian Church under the supreme authority of the Arch-Patriarch. In the old situation, the Patriarch of the Augustans, as the Imperial Patriarch, took second place of honour among the Patriarchs after the Arch-Patriarch in Auroria, but in his bull In Memoriam et Honorem Precedentum (In Memory and Honour of Those Who Went Before), His Holiness recalled the principle that Michaelan Sees derive a special honour from the Primacy of St. Michael. Since Ville des Saints is a Michaelan See due to the existence of the valid Theognosian Archipatriarchate there, the Patriarch of Canrille would therefore take precedence.

"The exhortation 'protect my lambs and protect my sheep' spoken by Our Lord to St. Michael is an enduring duty on his successors," the Arch-Patriarch writes in his bull. "We, as Michael's successor in Michael's historic See, have the first calling to that duty, but We consider that while the Vigiliate has returned to its proper place in a united Church, the Bishop of Saints is still the successor of those men who answerred the Lord's call in continuing Michael's duty from Ville des Saints while communion was lost. The pre-eminence invested in Michaelan Sees, even with the restored Archipatriarchate in Auroria, still resides with the Patriarch of Canrille, and he has an especial duty to assist the Successor of St. Michael in carrying out the duty the Lord entrusted to Michael. We therefore declare that the Patriarchate of Canrille is protos among the Patriarchates, second in honour only to the Archipatriarchate which rules by virtue of St. Michael's commission over the entire Church, and that the Bishop of Saints may therefore rightfully style himself His Holiness, the Bishop of Saints and Patriarch of Canrille, Sovereign of the State of the City of Saints and Theognosian Apostolic Protopatriarch."

Cardinal Frênebourg remarks the importance of Religious Orders

Empyrean Temple, Auroria - December 3881 - Cardinal Sebastian Frênebourg, Scriba of the Convocation for Religious and Consecrated Life, celebrated Gratitude in the Empyrean Temple with representatives of monastic order. He then spoke about the importance of Monasticism in the life of the Church.

Religious monks and sisters bring an essential contribution to the life of the Church. Neither clergy nor laity, the lead us all in paryer towards God with their great example of praiseworthy life and daily sacrifice. Few faithful can be considered more faithful followers of the word of Elyon. It is a good occasion to thank the Lord for the gift of the many people who, in monasteries and hermitages, dedicate themselves to Elyon in prayer and constructive silence

Monasticism still plays today a big role in the life of the Church, and monasteries are often spiritual oases in the modern and chaotic Terra. Following the Second Council and the new wave of ecumenical evangelization, monasticism has seen an increase in popularity and vocations.

His Holiness was in good health and has died of natural causes; it has been reported that he was lucid until the very last. His Holiness Justus XI will remain in history as one of the greatest figures in the history of Hosianity and the Church. His landmark election, the first after the Second Council of Auroria, made him the head of the greatest religious body of Terra and one of the most powerful and influential men on the planet. Oneumandolos, born Helios, Kalopia, had a strong ecumenical background and was a big promoter of the unity and universality of the Church. Because of his appointments, the college of Cardinal became the most diverse in the history of the Hosianity. His steady governance of the Church revitalized this Holy institution and guided it towards the 40th century and his leadership prompted many Aurorian Hosians to be active members of the church. Indeed, his Archpatriarchy was a moment of expansion and rebirth of the Church.

His funerals will be held on the 15th of September and the Conclave will be announced soon. In the meantime, all offices will be suspended and the governance of the Church will be in the hand of the College of Cardinals and the Camerarius.
