ROMULA:During recent months, the Parliament did not seem to be able to elect a government, so we interviewed the Istalian Democracy leader to hear his views about:
This term was born bad, worse than the previous one, without a real majority in parliament. And so, as I had always feared, we were without a government for two and a half years because PNI whim, by which I understand because the party has never openly sided with the left. I think in fact, sharing the thought of Camerone, that the PNI was always ambiguous and has always aspired to chairs and ministries: in the previous government they had 5, including all the main, to the detriment of PSLI (which I imagine to have been out because it had the President of the Republic) and the Greens, as well it seemed that they wanted the others. It is really strange that the left, although counts 4 parties, need a fifth party, in this case the PNI, to form a government. And because of this situation, we will have a "goal government" so that government will not approve any law, except those destined for international relations, and will remain in office for only a year and a half. I hope that citizens will remember these parliamentary games, and what they have caused, in the next elections. Because in fact the citizens had expressed for a majority government API-PNI with the vote, because if no coalition has the absolute majority of seats is citizens' fault, but I think they have not the slightest thought of a whim like that, even if already in the previous term we could see the bases. I hope, without much conviction, that the Government can at least reach its goals, not to let this legislature to posterity as the less useful four years of Istalian politic.
Within the party, in the meantime, turn away the hopes of a congress. After these elections Marini had said he want to leave the leadership of the party after the next elections, as a sign of the end of his work, but after news of the difficulty of forming a government he said that wanted to remain certainly for a new legislature. For now, the internal currents have expressed confidence in Marini, except that of the Pacifists headed by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Giulio Verdi, which remains neutral. In fact Verdi never forgot Marini for having distorted the proposed lifting of the embargo on Saridan: during those months have clashed numerous times with Verdi thought to resign for failure to trust from the party, then persuaded to stay not to aggravate the internal situation in the party and the international credibility of Istalia. The likely candidates Leaders at the next congress will be Giuliotti, nephew of two-time President of the Republic Mario, currently supported by the whole party, with the exception of the right, and Lucia Ziti, leader of the conservative front and the official candidate of the party as Minister of Defense . But we could see some surprise.
