5th May 4318 (OOC: about a month from now in real-life time) will be the 2500th anniversary of the birth of the father of communism, Karlstein Metz (OOC: Karl Marx), and to celebrate this great occasion, Gisela Guttmacher, Dorvish Communist Party MP and General Secretary of the Communist League of Terra, has announced that her organisation will now recognise 5th May as International Karlstein Metz Day.
There was some debate within the organisation over which date to choose for International Karstein Metz Day. Some delegates wanted to designate it as 25th December, so that it could replace Hosianmas (OOC: Christmas), which is regarded by many communists as a decadent consumerist pro-capitalist festival. A few others wanted to designate the date of the publication of Metz's The Communist Manifesto. However, in the end it was decided to go with the date of Metz's birth.
The Communist League of Terra has written to the World Congress, asking them to formally recognise Karlstein Metz Day, and to organise a series of educational and cultural events to celebrate the great man's birth. Letters have also gone out to government and sub-government authorities across the world, similarly inviting them to recognise and celebrate International Karlstein Metz Day.

To help with the celebrations, the Communist League of Terra has been working with the Ransestadt Communist Workers Co-Operative, based in the Dorvish city of Ranestadt, to manufacture a wide range of memorabilia and educational material relating to Karlstein Metz. This includes beautiful sets of red Karlstein Metz statues, which Gisela Guttmacher says will be manufactured "in the the tens of thousands, so there will be enough of them to go to every single village, town and city in Terra".

One of the red Karlstein Metz statues has already been dispatched for free to the World Congress headquarters on the Whale Island, although it is not yet clear what they will do with it or whether it will be put on display.
