Greetings foreign dignitaries!

I would like to personally welcome you to our Hall of Artania in Magrathea! We hope that you like it here, and that this conference be fruitful for our great Artania.

In recent years, there have been steps taken to unite our continent, such as the ACN initiative.
For many years, I myself advocated better relations, and now I have the opportunity, and I thank you all for your participation!

What I hope to get out of this first conference, is steps for a great and united Artania. Not an Artanian Union, but sovereign nations with tremendous cooperating people!
I think that it is best if we could start first in a non-political manner, say sporting events, cultural fairs and culture exchange programs. Maybe we student-trips in different nations. Also, we ask the nations to work together, individually. Do not feel shy to strike up a conversation with the person next to you. It can very well be a personal one, only involving the two countries you each represent!

We hope for the other nations' participation later on, but we must regretfully informed that the nation of Darnussia will not be present, as they have problems, not with Ikradon personally, but judgmentally as they refuse to 'negotiate' with socialists. We are saddened by the nation's decision, letting political ideologies and informalities getting in the way of unity for Artania.

Nonetheless, I wish to give the representatives time to say or ask something, and then we could continue.

AGENDA
* Artanian Sports
- Continental Tournaments and Cooperation
- Sporting Events, one-time, or regularly x-annual
- Possible Intra-Artanian Programs
- Movements and Sports for Artanian Health
* Artanian Culture
- General Tradition and Culture exchange
- Artanian culture, if it even exists
- Music, Art and Dance
- Language
- Cultural Fairs, Concerts, Exhibits
* Artanian Research
- Exchange programs
- Intra-Artanian and co-founded Universities
- Intra-Artanian research programmes, Space or Nautical
- Common Artanian-recognized diploma's
* Artanian Trade
- Common, or no tariff, between Artanian nations
- Imports & Exports via sea, for landlocked nations
- Intra-Artanian cooperation on industries and manufacturing
- Live here, work there initiative
* Artanian Justice
- Crime has no borders, IntrArPol
- Artanian court, for crimes against Artania, or in more than one Artanian nation
- Special Borderless Police Division possibility
- Custom Customs for our Neighbours initiative
* Artanian Ecology
- Intra-Artanian Parks and Wildlife conservation
- Sea and Airspace laws for protection
- Sea territory and Air Space discussion and solution
- Fishing discussion
* Artanian Infrastructure
- Inter-Artanian roads and rails
- Border-control cooperation
- Border-cities cooperation
- Emergency Departments without Border

Or course this is just a general agenda, and for now we shall focus on the first three or four.
Comments on the Agenda? On goals? Anything? Just let yourselves be heard!

Sir Cato Drudgeworth, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Holy Luthori Empire rose, addressing the whole of the conference:

"On behalf of His Imperial and Most Excellent Majesty, Emperor Gustavus II of Luthori, Alduria and Mordusia, I would like to thank the government of Ikradon for its most gracious hospitality. I would also like to extend the sincerest apology of His Grace, Duke Marcus Rannigan, who is unfortunately absent tonight. Indeed, he is as we speak participating in a very sensitive conference in the Commonwealth of Yishelem & Beiteynu. However, I can tell all of you that His Majesty the Emperor places a very high importance on Artanian cooperation despite differences in ideology although we in Luthori agree with the honorable delegate from Ikradon that a sovereignty grabbing "Artanian union" would be very distasteful. Indeed, we feel that every country has the right to elect their own government and to be ruled how they see fit although this is certainly not an impediment to Artanian cooperation and friendship. Furthermore, many Artanian nations already have close ties of alliance and we hope to expand on those ties in the future.

I yield the floor to whoever wishes to speak."

Sir Cato sat down and instead privately addressed his neighbour, Foreign Affairs Minister Dolores Harrison of Beluzia and Bailon:

"Minister, it is an honor to finally meet you. My government has wanted to contact the United Federation for some time, but it seems now is the perfect opportunity. If it pleases you I would like to discuss our alliance and possible ways of strengthening and expanding it."

Mr. Herman Mayday Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Rutania stood up to continue the introductory speeches:

"Honourable Representatives, I greet you in the name of His Royal Majesty Augustan I., King of Rutania and East Dovani and in the name of all the citizens of our Commonwealth. We were honoured by the invitation of Ikradon and we assure them that their initiative is highly valued worldwide and will be remembered by the Rutania.

I would also like to join Diantha Boekhouwer and Sir Cato Drudgeworth in their call for putting aside ideological issues. Reality does not have an ideology, nor do human relations. This conference is an opportunity that did never arise before and we should live with it. Even if we do not reach any kind of decision, us being here and meeting each other already guarantees a bright future for Artania.

Thank you for your attention!
"

Mr. Mayday sat down and look around kindly. He was given a message informing him that HM Augustan I. might nominate him a Lord High Ambassador in His Privy Council to be created. He knew that on the success of this conference depends his career.

Endralonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marek Taylor, rises to deliver his opening statement:

"Conference, on behalf of His Majesty King Ottokar I of Endralon and on behalf of the Government of Endralon, I offer my greetings.

I am particularly grateful to the Socialist Republic of Ikradon for its pro-active and enthusiastic spearheading of this initiative. As we are only at a very early stage, I will be very interested to hear the reflections and suggestions advanced in the course of the discussions.

I am confident that the atmosphere of collaboration, the importance of these themes for the future of the continent, and the urgency of the moment will combine to give considerable impetus to this meeting. My best wishes to you all."

On behalf of Alexander William Martin-Howe, Emperor of Hobrazia, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ellen van Osten gave her introductory statement:

'It gives me enormous pleasure to represent Hobrazia at what is an important and significant conference for our nations and for our wider region. We do not come here in order to discuss what divides us, as our region is a rich and vibrant mix of many different cultures, and what suits one nation is entirely inappropriate for another.

Yet morally, socially, and economically, what unites the proud nations of Artania is a desire to serve our citizens and advance our countries and, consequently, the region as a whole. We are particularly interested not only in how governments can work together, but also in how we can allow our businesses, who deliver growth and prosperity, to trade freely and without government interference.

I look forward over the coming days to developing our concepts further, and to hearing your ideas for the future of our region.'

Richard van Osten, Hobrazia's former President, gave a brief statement in which he underlined the ongoing commitment of Hobrazia to a peaceful and successful Artania.

Bernard Shaw, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Kirlawa rose to give his introductory speech:

"Honourable Members, it gives me great pleasure to represent Kirlawa at arguably the most important meeting ever held between Artanian nations. My hope is that we are able to use the conference as a way to not only share our diverse cultures or fix problems with the environment, but to also end the isolationism that has existed between us for so long. It is my belief that the physical boundaries of a nation should be the only dividing factor between nations and this is especially prevelant here in Artania which has much to offer culturally, economically and socially.

However, it saddens me that once again politics has gotten in the way of progress. Our friends in Darnussia have decided to pre-judge this conference as nothing more than a gathering ground for socialism; quite the opposite. If our friends from Darnussia do decide to join us, they can rest assure they'll be greeted with open arms and open minds. In closing, let us take this opportunity to, if only once, to come together as one for the greater good of the region. We can achieve so much for the next generation of Artanians if we put our minds together and come up with ideas that work best for not one, but all nations.

Thank you for your time."

Premier Adrik Ivanov rose before the dignitaries and smiled at them, he was obviously nervous to be in the presence of such powerful men and women. He begun to speak slowly but soon picked up his pace.

"I am here on the behalf of the People of Dorvik and most of the people of Artanian, I think this conference demonstrates the unity and pride that is needed in the world today and ever more so on the part of the Governments of this great continent we call home." Adrik paused and looked around the room; he was proud. "I stand here not feeling as I usually do; I don't feel intimidated or damned; something that should represent Artanian as a whole because I look at the face of these men and women and I realize that we share a common goal and position, we all just want Artanian to be at peace and be able to cooperate and work with each other in making the world a better place." Adrik paused again and took a sip of water, the nervousness was settling away slowly. "As difficult as it is to follow up Mr. Shaw's speech, I have to agree with him. Politics, as odd as this may sound, should never get in the way of progress, if something needs to happen because it will have a common good for everyone...then it should be done. It doesn't matter if your a Communist, a Socialist, a Fascist, a Monarchist...hell even an anarchist. We must progress forward or we will surely be left behind and destroyed much like nations in our worlds history." Adrik smiled at the crowd, preparing his closing speech. "I ramble and digress, it is merely the inexperience of being in the presence of such people as yourselves. Thank you for your ear."

Amadeus Stief, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Malivia:

"Dear colleages, dear listeners, dear readers and dear people of our wonderful continent,

i think we should go forward on an possible agenda. The first question is, what do we really want on our continent. Do we want a Union? Do we want single currency? Do we want justa free trade zone?
For my government is is pretty clear that we have to build up trust on this continent first. Trust between the governments and the peopel, as well.
First of all a exchange porgramme would be a first step. Aother good step can be a sport contest on our continent. Whould do the other leaders think of this suggestions?"

My I add also, that the government is very sad that Dudorf doesen't take part in this conference.

Minister Boekhouwer takes the stand again:
"Pride! Goosebumps! Happiness! Those were what I felt as I heard each and every one of you stand up and introduce yourselves! Indeed, Artania has some great leaders, be it men or women, liberal, communist, monarchist or anything else, it is clear that no matter what ideology or belief, humans will remain humans, and will always want cooperation and unity! Indeed, we are also saddened by the Darnussia's declination of our invite, as well as Dundorf, Aloria and Kundrati's lack of reply. I do most certainly hope that these nations will join us later on!

In the meanwhile, we should progress with the conference! As you can all see, Sports seems to be first on the agenda. The reasoning behind this is because sports has a magical side to it. Sports has always united people, enemy and friends, and created healthy rivalry. It has always been a beacon of unity, for every nation do love to have fun and be competitive! I see sports, as war without bloodshed. Both sides want to win, and will try everything they can to win, and win within the rules!"

Minister Boekhouwer reveals a screen, where dates, flags and events are shown on it.
"Sports has also always been something used for diplomacy! For better relations between countries! For unity and prosperity of the world! Events like the Ancient Olympics and the FIFA World Cup of the 1900's has always unified the world, for competitiveness, and sportsmanship between countries and nations. Respect, Honour, and Unity. The ability to represent your country, and play! Prior to sports, the only other common contact between nation was war."

Minister Boekhouwer pauses, drinks a bit of water, while instructing her personnel to dole out a folder, that reads:
SPORTS FOR ARTANIA!
event possibilities
[*] Olympics (multi-sport, athletics, swimming, basketball, football (american & association), baseball, etc.)
[*] One-Sport Team-Sport World Cup (x-annually, football, baseball, hockey, etc. )
[*] Non-Team Sport Event (decathlon, swimming, wrestling, martial arts, etc.)
[*] One-Sport Continental League/Tournament (championship teams of each nation)
[*] Cultural Sports Events (dancing, figure-skating, skating, surfing, etc.)

"My ideal plan is to have sports as the first step to great Artania relations. Sporting events will bring out the competitiveness spirit of our nations, and also would give our nations the chance to see other nations. Nations showcasing themselves and their people culturally to other nations and their people. People from both nations merging, finding one common ground to talk, debate and be excited about. Many different people conglomerating and socializing and learning from each other. That is my vision, and I am sure that many here, and on Artania, share the same vision.

I leave this podium, this beacon to unity, cooperation and prosperity, this stairway to the future, for you all, my humble guests."

Minister Diantha Boekhouwer steps down the podium, taking her seat next to the van Osten's, drinking her water ever so slightly.
