Alduria invites in monitors to oversee democratic transition

Alduria's President Franck Lapointe and Foreign Minister Ludovic Comtois are hosting a conference in the Aldurian capital, Aldur, at which they are appealing to "interested governments and non-governmental organisations, especially civil rights organisations and experts in the field of democratic transition and regime change" to "send delegations to Alduria in order to monitor the process we are are going though". For several years Alduria has been subjected to the authoritarian, foreign rule of Luthori, and is now attempting to reintroduce a liberal and democratic system of government.

Comtois told journalists "we are proud of what we are achieving in Alduria, and we want the whole world to see it, and to help us to see through the reforms we need to make". He also promised that representatives of the government would make time available to meet with monitors "on a regular basis" in order to facilitate "a fresh exchange of ideas and perspectives". The President added that "the instinct for tolerance, freedom and democracy is very, very strong in Alduria - we have a long history of it - and this is one of the reasons I am so confident our hard-won freedom will be a success".

Arsène Duguay, Professor of Political Science at the University of Operty, said "the prospects for Alduria are good, though we need international help to steady the process". However, he added that "the complete domination of the National Assembly, the government and the regional and local governments by one party isn't healthy in the long-term, and one has to hope future elections will be more noisy and competitive than the last one".

The Dorvish Federation has offered the assistance of the Stability Group A of the Dorvish Stability and Security Group to help oversee democratic transition in Alduria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dorvish Federation wishes the Aldurians the best of luck and to come to the Dorvish Federation if further assistance is needed.

The Valruzian Government would be happy to send official observers in tandem with a delegation of NGOs who have expressed interest in securing democracy for Alduria. We wish the people of Alduria the best in moving forward, and hope to see a smooth transition process which will secure a stronger and lasting democracy for Alduria.
