Conclave on the Future of Lodamunese Nationalism

Postby Captain-Socialist » Tue Dec 30, 2014 2:51 pm

Greetings to you, esteemed citizens.

Before this election, Hosianism was briefly restored as the "official" religion of Lodamun. I believe our position on this was made clear in the Sermon on the Steps (viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5985). Shortly after, the Powers government u-turned and restored Nationalism. Our huge electoral gains can only be considered, given our emphasis on this issue in our campaigning and propaganda, as a protest against this restoration.

It is clear that Nationalism in its current form is no longer viable, if it ever was, as a unifying factor. It is also clear that a constant spiral of conflict between Hosians and Nationalists will become inevitable if we keep changing the state religion every chance we get. In our discussions amongst ourselves and with other parities, the position of having no state religion as a compromise has been suggested. Should it emerge that this is the best means of uniting the nation and creating a functioning majority government, we will perhaps accept this - but under protest.
We also know that if the Nationalists will certainly never accept this, and even if they do it will too be under protest.

We must therefore seek a true compromise, one which does not lie in neither side receiving what they want, a compromise that will naturally be abandoned as soon as elections make it possible for one faction to use the Presidium to force themselves on the other.

We believe that we should open a discussion on the Reformation of Lodamunese Nationalism, if it is to remain the state religion of a nation in which Monotheists and other dissenters of all kinds are active politically and can hold government office. We believe that Lodamunese Nationalism must come to accept the existence of, or take a agnostic position on, the existence of higher spiritual powers. We believe that this is theoretically and theologically possible.

We have discussed with the NAP-EL the possibility of the writing of a new Lodamunese testament, which would be included in a general holy book containing the key Qedarite and Aldegarian religious texts.

We also believe that the option exists whereby Nationalism become state ideology, representing the secular side of our culture, but non-denominational Hosianism or Monotheism is the national faith, with both having voluntary membership. As individuals, we would be free to reject or accept both or neither.

Our overriding aim is to secure our own freedom to worship the One and True God without the state forcing idolatry upon us, and will accept any compromise as long as this is possible.

We do not believe in a higher spirit such as a Hosian God, but rather in our founder of the new and tolerant Lodamese Nationalism, Prophet and Eternal President, Henry Percy. A religious text will be sent down by our Prophet and Eternal President Henry Percy from the Eternal Lodamese State. It will focus on Gross National Happiness, civil liberties , culture and obedience to the state. Our Prophet spoke out several times for religious tolerance under Lodamese Nationalist rule, this will also reflect in our new Holy Book.

The government of Kanjor also condemns the actions and ideology of the ECDP and will back Malivia on any initiative aimed at limiting the damage they are trying to cause.

The President of Lodamun advises foreign powers to not overstep their boundaries. We would not see our work for national reconciliation and peace damaged by foreigners encouraging violence.

The Chancellor of Malivia recommends to the president that they should forfeit their position.

LNC believes that indeed some sort of understanding should exist. This conclave can be a good start to get to a final solution.
We should ask ourselves the question if we want to keep Nationalism as it exists today to be our State religion. Should Nationalism be changes? Should we adapt certain aspects from other religions or allow other religions?
LNC would like to make clear that we would appreciate this conclave to have religion as an issue and that we would appreciate foreigners to silently hear out what is being said and only interrupt when they feel they have an important issue to share with us.

Baltusia has been a long supporter of Religous freedom in Lodamun and we are proud of the progress Lodamun has made towards freedom of religion. Baltusia strongly supported Henry Percy's presidential regin and we are glad that there is now a branch of Lodamese Nationalism called Percyism that supports freedom of religion.

Baltusia will be watching these religion talks closely and will be pitching in at critical times.

The Government of Valruzia is pleased to see that Hosianism is no longer being imposed on the people of Lodamun. However, it is with concern that we note the prospect of theistic doctrine being once again forced upon our neighbours. Whether this be the worship of a non-existent 'higher power' or the deification of a former president, such an approach can only lead to the fueling of existing tensions. We believe that a secular approach which respects the right of individuals to worship without imposing their religious beliefs on others is by far the preferable solution.
