This conference is open to all who wish to attend and supply their opinions on the matter. Obviously Kalistan would prefer those who have some experience with designing National militaries, as well as RPing Military conflicts.
My goals with this conference is
1) to begin to determine what would be reasonable for a state like Kalistan to possess in the way of military equipment based on several factors, among them are: Kalistan's diplomatic position in the world (as proxied by my own RPing), 2) Kalistan's economic capacity and fungability, 3) Kalistan's needs (being a predominantly maritime/commercial state) and 4) Kalistan's special relationship to Party Militias, the one currently in existence being the RSMoK, belonging to the Socialist Party, which is primarily light mobile infantry supported by artillery at need on land, and Light Armored, Fast Attack ships at sea, that are more or less speed boats with a two machine guns and some light.
2) To begin Partnering with weapons manufacturers in the world to acquire the hardware to meet Kalistan's needs in both land and sea units.
3) To begin partnering with weapons manufacturers to begin producing weapons of Kalistan's own, both to supply and aggrandize our own military, but also to sell them openly to other nations. We already theoretically produce small arms and knock off Kalashnikovs, towed howitzers and LAFA craft for the navy in our Nationalized Defense industries, but our production has gone almost exclusively into maintaining our own equipment. We would like to get into producing self propelled Artillery and perhaps light tanks, as well as more heavily armored ships for naval use and sale.
I will begin with some general notions:
I see Kalistan as a fairly active diplomatic force which should possess some projection capacity both on land and at sea. Kalistan plays a regional power which sits at the strategic cross roads between Dovani, Keris and Selaya and anything that comes through the Anantanese Ocean passes Kalistan. So naturally, our local presence should be rather significant, even though we do not maintain fleets on any other body of water
The land forces that I have RPed in almost all conflicts within Kalistan have been Light infantry/ Assault forces, which can remain in the field indefinitely, but do not do well at holding territory. These irregulars are supported by artillery units and truck mounted heavy rifles. They also come with a small commando force, which blows stuff up pretty well, and engages in other forms of sabotage and demolition. During the Pirate Episode in Kalistan, I also employed fishing vessels with outboard motors and mpunted 50 cal automatic rifles, for the purpose of harassing shipping at sea. Crews would take the speed boats out, board and commandeer a ship and then run it aground. These units are the SP's militia. And they have been activated for hundreds of years, to the point where they are better trained at their jobs than the Regulars. But the militia is the militia- they are part timers... The boats became our prototype for the LAFA craft which served as the primary vessel of the Auxiliary Navy. In terms of Airforce, the Militia has none- if we ever need a ride somewhere, we usually take civilian air. Intel wise, the militia cultivated sophisticated propaganda, interrogation, espionage, and black ops capabilities- the KRSB is essentially the Militia's S-2 brought into Republican Service
The Kalistani Regular Service, however, has not been RPed for a very long time. I have always been happier with what I could do with the militia, than I would have been had I coordinated a Regular force. I am sure Pentalarc did some work on this and I would have to find it. But whatever it is, it is assumed that we are maintaining it at current levels, for hundreds of years. We are a neutral country, and have never had to use it for anything, but I assume they have been just repairing what they had and maintaining their training levels. I have RPed that we have a navy, but I don't have a clue what that looks like either. Same with National Airforce. I would assume that a maritime nation would have strike and close support craft available to it, but I am sure more focus would be on the navy and ground forces than the airforce anyway.
Based on that information, and knowing that Kalistan wants the capacity to assist friends around the world for short periods of time without incurring a major commitment from the Government or people of Kalistan, how do the experienced individuals propose I go about structuring the military of Kalistan to conform with both what we would have if we were a real country the size and GDP of Kalistan, and which takes into account both our strategic position as well as our preferred military doctrine?
Floor is open.
