Terran Association of Free Trade (TERRASSOFT)

Postby jamescfm » Sun Oct 30, 2016 8:28 pm

Warm greetings to all gathered and assembled!

As the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Confederation of Kizenia, Kuzakiului and New Endralon, I am calling this conference in order to discuss the proposed 'Terran Association of Free Trade (TERRASSOFT)', [see here: http://bit.ly/2eXvXsa and here: http://bit.ly/2f6AyVz]. The ultimate aim of TERRASSOFT is to promote free trade and economic cooperation across the whole of Terra for the benefit of all citizens. In order to achieve this, I believe we need contributions, and indeed criticisms, from as many individuals, political parties and organisations as possible.

I now invite speakers from around Terra to articulate their view of what this arrangement should be.

The ultimate aims and goals of TERRASSOFT should be the primary point of discussion in this deal so that we can begin focusing our resources effectively. The Terran Association of Free Trade has the opportunity to become simply a treaty which governs nations policy and binds them to accept free trade or it can be an organisation which seeks to promote the wider cause of free (and fair) trade across Terra- perhaps with a formalised structure. In order to understand the views of interested parties, I would like to invite speakers to express an opinion on this matter.

Should the Terran Association of Free Trade pitch itself as a single, exhaustive document or as a group of nations, parties and individuals who share and promote the ideals of free trade? I yield to whomever wishes to speak.

Assembled delegates,

If we are to build a single market across a community of free-trading nations, then it is vital to establish the principle that the market should have an ethical dimension to it. Many great advantages can flow from free trade, but we need to be careful here, or we could end up promoting the worst excesses of capitalism.

For this reason, I want to ask that TERRASSOFT's agenda should extend to more than just reducing trade barriers. Let us also talk about such things as decent rights for workers, protections for consumers and standards for the environment.

If this project is to be a success, the people of Terra need to be shown that free trade can be made to work positively for them, and that it is not just about advancing the narrow interests of the big multinational corporations.

Bogdana Dimir, General Secretary of the right-wing economic thinktank, the New Endralonian Free Trade Forum, has expressed her "support for the ideals behind TERRASOFT", but warned that it "must not end up hijacked by those with a heavy political agenda, like socialists, protectionists, militant trade unionists and radical environmentalists". Referring to New Endralon's recently-imposed Sanctions against Kalistan, she also warned that "if New Endralon wants to be taken seriously in talks with other nations about free trade, then she will need to start practising what she preaches".

TRIGUNIAN MINISTER OF FINANCE ISSUES SUPPORT FOR TERRASOFT
The Trigunian Minister of Finance, Baron Dmitriy Korablev, has issued a statement giving support to the newly created Terran Association of Free Trade. He, a strong enemy of tariffs, has been a moderate socialist activist in his youth, before joining the Konstitutsionno-Demokraticheskaya Partia and becoming an employee of the Ministry of Finance. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Ministry, until becoming the Director of the Department of the Treasury. After the resignation of, the now deceased, Duke Victor Stepanov, Mr Korablev became Minister of Finance. The full statement is below:
I, as the Minister of Finance of the Trigunian Empire, officially offer my support for the Terran Association of Free Trade. I, throughout my political life have been a deep enemy of protectionism and a firm supporter of free trade. This new association is a great step for humanity and will secure the safety of Terra from the evil forces of protectionism.

Taking on board feedback we have received thus far, I am recommending the Terran Association of Free Trade operates as a structured organisation, which is able to respond to the demands of an ever-changing world. The exact details of how this structure will operate and who will be involved can be decided at a later date but I will begin formulating the first part of the Treaty now, entitled 'Organisation'. Scrutiny is welcomed throughout this process after which we will discuss the option of certain goods being exempted from the free trade deal.

I understand that to many this may seem counter-productive but we have to understand that for some goods, free exchange can be harmful. Potential examples include military technologies or damaging substances and whether or not specific examples are exempted will be a matter for the members of TERRASSOFT. In the meantime, I encourage anybody wishing to contribute to continue to do so and also to contribute at the party organisation (http://bit.ly/2f6AyVz) which I recommend subscribing too.

Greetings,

As Minister of Foreign Affairs I speak in name of the government that we support the trade agreement. We will offer the TERRASSOFT use of our ministery to work out the finer details and in name of the President we wish to thank the Social Democrats for initating thise fine proposal. The government will fund the expenses of the creation of the treaty.

Our suggestions are that they are moddeled after our own treaties with nation such as we have with Hutori, Vanuku and Indrala. Clauses for international movement of people, rules for working in other countries, import tarrif bans and the protection and investments in rural areas. Another key thing we wish added is the mutual responsibility of all signature nations is to not have a Corporation tax that is higher than 20%.

Please observe that 'Section 1- Organisation' of the TERRASSOFT Treaty has been drafted; http://bit.ly/2eXvXsa.

I ask that all interested parties review my initial proposals and recommend improvements to this provisional structure.

Sir, we object, the nation's name is the Confederation of New Endralon, Kizenia and Kuzaki. Not ''Confederation of Kizenia, Kuzakiului and New Endralon.''. You know aswel as I do that the New Endralonian name is used the most in foreign correspondences and that the Kizenians got the Capital of our Confederation. Please stick to the legal name and not the prefered name of the honourable nationalistic gentleman.
