OOC: World Congress Coordination

Postby jamescfm » Sun Nov 20, 2016 4:02 pm

Given the vast array of RP which has already come from the World Congress' Security Council and General Assembly, I thought it might be helpful if we had a thread where we can discuss matters OOC so that we can ensure we are all on the same page. To my mind, there are two situations currently involving the World Congress.

Saridan and Slavery: The Saridanese government was singled out for its support of slavery by the Security Council and consequently, Kalsitan has assembled a coalition of nations, primarily itself, Hutori, Hawu, Istalia, Cobura and Talmoria, to help slaves free Saridan. As it stands, the international coalition is preparing to begin its mission to Saridan. However, Trigunia has complicated matters by openly stating their desire to install a 'puppet government' in Saridan.

Beiteynu Encroachment: This one is more difficult. The generally accepted story is that Beiteynu has illegally encroached onto Pontesian territory, triggering a strong reaction from Kazulia. The Istalian SC Ambassador has proposed a diplomatic mission to Beiteynu. There are issues regarding whether this is even legal in an OOC sense, though, so I won't delve much further into that.

Yeah I think we should hold off on Beiteynu until Govenor and the moderators come to terms. I also think we need more prep time for a Beiteynu resolution because Govenor is also doing concentration camps for his 'class b citizens' in Beiteynu now (see his Final Solution bill). So the resolution should cover more than the Pontesi invasion.

Agreed. I wanted to ask TheTsar, too, what the plans were with the Trigunian involvement in Saridan?

Yeah, the part about installing a 'puppet government' might be complicated. It's probably best to stay out of international wars given the high likelihood of controversy but then again, a puppet government can theoretically be installed without direct removal of the government by a foreign force... internal coup, some kind of Gorbachev type rising within the ruling system etc. I haven't thought much about Saridan's part during the era of embargo/sanctions are enforced but I'm envisioning a lengthy period of defiance characterised by economic depression, possibly several slave revolts and eventually collapse.

When I said I wanted to install a puppet government in Saridan, I meant I would be willing to do so if that was the only way to get rid of slavery. Sorry for the bad wording.

Also, as I understand it, in Deltaria what is meant by slavery is actually serfdom, a much milder version of slavery, where the serfs are still property of the land owner, however they actually have rights, but not full rights of citizens, for example they have a right to live, therefore the serf owner cannot kill them without an official court trial etc.

No need to apologise, I was just curious. I suppose it is feasible that either by chance or by design, a party could pop up which campaigns to end slavery in Saridan and, in that sense, it could be seen as a puppet government.

Yes, Tsar, it's not a bad idea and is actually quite intriguing . No need to apologise, you did nothing wrong. :) I just meant that we ought to try and find a way to implement the idea without war. Wars as you can see ;) can be a controversial business and a Mod's involvement would only worsen a controversy; if it arises. James' idea for a puppet party could work.

If the party option is considered, you could use labour movements. In Trinidadian history, labour movements (i.e. labour riots and general strikes) is what force the crown (i.e. England) to reconsider their stance on simply leaving the decolonization of west Indian society to the west Indian colonies and their respect administrative councils. The book that is my profile picture beautifully explained that.

Unfortunately, I already have a second active account in Deltaria aiming to abolish serfdom, restore the monarchy and re-unite the two Deltarian nations.
