Branovice Summit on the Future of the Majatran Association

Postby Rogue » Fri Feb 23, 2024 9:58 pm

Vladimir Brkić, Deltarian foreign minister

Dear Colleagues,

I welcome you to the Branovice Summit, a forum where we shall discuss the reastablishment of the Majatran Association. I welcome all to take the floor when you wish to do so, lets keep the discourse civil.

We have several points i would like to adress, but i would like to start with gathering the general sentiment to reastablishing this major association of nations. What is the opinion of each majatran nation on the prospects of a new Majatran Association?

Please take the floor.

Kalim Keshef, Deputy Head of the Medinat Department, Homeland State of Beiteynu

I will be attending this conference as an observer and advisor on behalf of the Medinat Department, a foreign affairs organisation of the Beiteynuese Government. The Levy Administration may send additional representatives in a more formal capacity, in due time.

Beiteynu would like to first ascertain whether the previous handshake with Deltaria on barring state-to-org agreements in a potential reinvigoration of the MA is still in effect, citing the existence of Dorvish and Yingdalan agreements with the MEA during the Hashim Conference more than a century ago. The Yeudi Homeland has always found such stipulations as unfair to both excluded Majatran states and nations from all around the world, as well as being counter-intuitive to the principles of equal leadership and cooperation that we have advocated in favour of since the reinvigoration of the MSO into the MSCO.

Suffice to say, org-to-org agreements such as, let's say, a potential MA-WDU framework, are more than acceptable, as they automatically grant benefits to all member states on either end without any prejudice or special agendas pursued in the past from states like Dorvik.

We thank mr. Keshef for attending this summit and do hope that more representatives from Beiteynu are soon to join. Deltaria is definitely committed to a Majatran Association that works for all. Therefor, we absolutely intend to honour our word and feel that the agreement on dissalowing org to state agreements is a fair one. Our primary objective in hosting this summit is economically and politically bringing our continent closer together. This must be a Majatran project above all. Deltaria would however like this union to be not just economic, but also political. While we understand concerns of national sovereignty, we believe there is a middle ground in which a new Majatran Association can unite its member states politically, without the need to hurt national sovereignty. Political union is however essential if we are to make the Association a organization that not only gives our continent economic benefits, but also lets it remain a democratic and stable region on Terra.

Noah Levy, Rosh HaMemshala (Prime Minister), Homeland State of Beiteynu
I appreciate the invitation from Deltaria to attend this summit to potentially revitalize the Majatran Association (MA). The Medinat Department has already highlighted some of our key priorities like ensuring that the MA does not allow for selective state-to-organization agreements that could disadvantage certain members over others.

Nevertheless, in regards to the primary objective of this summit, we of course share the goal of continental unity and cooperation. We could through the MA for instance, start by reducing barriers to trade and investment. Joint infrastructure and development projects could also work too. On the political front in which the Deltarian Foreign Minister has focused on, the MA could serve as a continent-wide forum for dialogue, confidence-building and coordination on issues of common interest, without infringing on members' sovereignty.

We look forward to hearing more concrete proposals from all parties. Thank you.

Thanks to mr. Levy for his input. I would indeed suggest to start at the core. A new Majatran Association would have, as its backbone, a economic union. If it is up to Deltaria, this economic union would run deep, including a customs union, single market and potentially a monetary union. We do recognize the oppossition many member states have had to a monetary union in the past. However, a Majatran currency could strengthen the position of the continent on the terran market and create a unique trading bloc. We would also have the opportunity of creating the go to currency for international trade, something that would further strengthen our international economic position. What is the take of other attendees on this topic?

Mimi Ketema, Federal Prime Minister of the Coburan Federation

While the current government of Cobura remains open to a continental association to promote diplomatic unity and cooperation, it is our belief that any such association should necessitate several treaties. This would allow member states to opt into parts of the association and not others, and allow for higher membership in our view.

If prospective members are forced to adopt all measures or not join, the current government will oppose Cobura joining an association which establishes freedom of movement, a common market, or a monetary union. I will do everything that I can as Prime Minister to protect the workers of Cobura, and allowing foreign nationals to freely move and work within our nation would undermine the bargaining power of our unions and workers.

The Medinat Department seconds the suggestion on compartmentalisation and modularity from Cobura.

First of all, I would like to thank the organizers for hosting this summit. The Kalopian position, as many of the people present here know, is clear: our nation wishes to remain politically neutral and independent. For this reason, and although Kalopia believes that our continent is indeed in need of this much desired political stability, we echo the words of the Prime Minister of the Coburan Federation, in which a different-rank international organization would work more effectively. If there is an obligation to adopt all the agreements or stay out of it, Kalopia would propably choose this second option. We oppose a monetary union and freedom of movement when it implies hurting the Kalopian workers.

Caius Clodius, Cōnsul of the Selucian Republic

Even though we appreciate the consideration, Selucia must officially reject any step at associating with Majatra or any other continent in any way that threatens our total political and economic independence in any way, even minimally. While the intention is good and we wish this possible Majatran Association good luck, we have fought a civil war recently over whether we should keep to our own or 'modernise' our nation to fit the interests of foreign powers, and the victor is clear as water. We are and have always been open to individual diplomatic agreements with other nations, but that should be the limit of it for Selucia. Best of luck.

Vladimir Brkić, Deltarian Foreign minister

I thank the representatives from Selucia, Kalopia and Cobura for their input. It is saddens Deltaria to hear of the refusal of Selucia, but we understand the hardship that the country is going through. We would like to extend a helping hand to Selucia if it needs one. As of the suggestion by Cobura, it is a interesting one for sure. One we can certainly entertain. Deltaria is worried however that by not committing each member state to all provisions of a new association, we could end up with a organization that has no backbone or economic power to truly make a difference. If one country adopts a monetary union, another only joins the customs union and another only allows for freedom of movement, we end up with a organization that has no benefit to the continent as a whole.

What i personally would like to suggest is to start negotiations on a toned down version of the association, where only a customs union and single market are included. This way, we ensure that all potential member states adhere to the same playbook and can form a strong union, but at the same time dont immediately intergrate our economies fully. We are willing to ditch the political aspect of it for now, to be discussed at a later stage when a potential customs union/single market proves to be effective. Is that something my felow representatives could agree on?
