In a surprise to most of the political press corps, the office of Chairman of the Committee of Ministers Vladimir Vyamin announced several weeks ago that he would be leading an official delegation on a state visit to Wiel, the capital of the Kingdom of Vanuku. Today, that delegation arrived in Wiel after a week-long sea voyage aboard the TKVM-Yablonev, a formidable yet comfortable battlecruiser dispatched for this special mission from the Green Sea Fleet, and escorted by a small flotilla composed of the destroyer TKVM-Zaslavsky, two missile frigates, and the TKVM-Smotrov attack submarine.

Along with Chairman Vyamin, the delegation's top brass consisted of Minister of Defense Bronislav Revich, Minister of Trade and Industry Baron von Richtenburen, and Ambassador to the World Congress Stanislav Lomonosov, accompanied by staff and a considerable security detail of commandos from the 3rd Spetskomanda Brigade. In light of the significant presence of the Terran Patriarchal Church in Vanuku, the Trigunian Patriarch Lermont and several assisting priests joined the delegation. Notably absent was Foreign Minister Aleksandra Savenkova. Though no clear reason was given by government spokesmen, it is understood that Minister Savenkova's Federalisti party has been undergoing increasing internal turmoil over the controversial decision to join a coalition government with the Natsionalny Front, and that the state visit was an initiative of Chairman Vyamin and Ambassador Lomonosov's.

At any rate, the delegation was welcomed very graciously by Vanukean Raadsprefect Cornelius Ashur, senior diplomat Prince Aldrkai Banmek-Sntazed, and other senior representatives of the government. Following a formal introductory luncheon, a series of parallel bilateral meetings was held between the foreign affairs, trade, and defense officials of the two governments. In the meantime, Chairman Vyamin went on a tour of several government sites with Raadsprefect Ashur, and the two enjoyed a private meeting with cigars and afternoon cocktails.

A brief readout by the Chairman's Press Secretary Dmitri Kornilov-Zemsky stated:
Chairman Vyamin and Raadsprefect Ashur began what will certainly be a highly productive ongoing conversation regarding several issues of key concern to our nations. Above all else, the two heads of government discussed the imperative of building on the established Trigunian-Vanukean alliance and using this close relationship to favorably resolve the mounting Saridani Crisis. Their Excellencies will continue to work closely together in the next week on building bridges between our countries' administrations and coming up with a concrete plan to use our joint armed forces effectively to maintain global peace. Chairman Vyamin also reiterated our deep gratitude for our hosts' hospitality.

The press corps will be attending a briefing again tomorrow, following a second round of bilateral meetings, and will also be covering an official state dinner to honor the Trigunian delegation tomorrow night.
