Vanuku Sends Troops into Great Jelbek Steppe
Elite Kingdom Forces will support Northern Khaganate Allies As Conflict with the Katonid Khanate Expands
Self-propelled artillery units, such as the ones pictured above, have been deployed by Vanuku.
February 4405 - A division of Vanukean troops has been sent into the Great Jelbek Steppe to support the Northern (Jelbek) Khaganate in their conflict with the Katonid Khanate.
The Government confirmed that a division of mechanised infantry supported by Vanukean multi-role fighter squadrons and fast-moving mobile self-propelled artillery units had crossed the border - and more would be deployed as necessary.
The troops will play a mainly supportive role in training and drilling Manil II Khagan's men and defending key locations - although it is not known if they will be deployed on the front line in an offensive capacity at this point. Arms and equipment is also believed to have been shipped into the realm to support the war effort.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Rnúf Herlkasrmko Ashur said: "Vanuku has guaranteed the independence and sovereignty of the Northern Khaganate and any act of aggression against the Khagan's realm is seen as an act of aggression against Vanuku. Following the outbreak of conflict with the Katonid Khanate we have, therefore, been compelled to act.
"Our priority is to bring unity and long lasting peace to the Steppe. We believe that this cannot be achieved fully whilst an illegal and brutal occupying regime such as the Katonid Khanate still exists. Therefore, we call on those who back this regime, either overtly or covertly, to stand down and we call on other factions on the Steppe such as the Free Republic of Jelbania to co-operate with the Northern (Jelbek) Khaganate to help to bring this conflict to a satisfactory resolution for the sake of all the people of this great Jelbic nation."
According to World Congress reports around 5,000 troops have been involved in fighting along the poorly-defined border between the two sub-states that emerged out of the political disintegration of Jelbania. More than 10,0000 civilians have been forced to flee deeper into their respective countries as a result.
Vanuku confirmed it has also sent reconnaissance units into the western steppes to liaise with the various tribes there and to attempt to identify a larger unidentified force that had started to gain ground in the south and west.
