In Marea chooses its new candidate for Consul de Popularis: Tera Pisthis

The decision comes after the announcement of the previous Consul, Ethan Megalos, assuring that he will not be running another term for the position.

It has finally happened. The longest Consul the Popularis, Ethan Megalos, announced yesterday night his intention of leaving politics after this last term. He has been involved since he was 23 years old, and founded the party In Marea Possumus Facere (commonly known as In Marea) along with other members of the party. He was Head of State from 4100 to 4119, and then again in the 4123 elections, being in this position for 23 years. But everything comes to an end, and Ethan Megalos decided this was his time.
After talking with the General Assembly of his party and the Secretary, he released a press conference were he was clearly affected, as it could be seen in the moments he could not even talk.

The General Assembly, composed by 11 members, is the responsible of choosing the candidates for Consul de Popularis, so this morning they had their first meeting, where a name was the clearly winner. By 7 votes (Cato Gurges, Nova Helva, Xenia Harculae, Aquila Balbus, Lavinia Maro, Flora Labeo and Thitan Chroneus) against 2 (Percy Lacoonte and Caecilia Papirus) and 2 abstentions (Jason Papadopoulos and Kyrian Aethius Flavius), Tera Pisthis was elected as the new candidate for Consul de Popularis, in the elections that will take part in the 4127.

Huge Win for Partis Laboris
February 4127
Image

A major upset has occurred in the Regnum de Seluciam, as the far-left, feminist, green, party In Marea, which has been established since before the beginning of the century has been defeated by the moderate social democrats of Partis Laboris--the Labor Party. Embracing religion and giving a nod to both the Seleucian Patriarchal Church and the Religio Seleuciana, while supporting more conservative ethical policies on issues such as adoption, and supporting the devolution of minor regulations to local governments, the Labor Party has broken the electoral barrier, holding a victorious 344 seats in the Ekklesia. Partis Laboris won by a landslide in West Shadar, and in most of the PL-won provinces, Partis Nationalisti was a distant second, with In Marea far behind.

Partis Laboris has formed a Coalition government with Partis Nationalisti, giving the nationalists reigns over the responsibilities of Legatus Primus (Minister of Defence), Minister Rusticae (minister of agriculture) and a few other cabinet positions.

Here is the following list of election scores:
Uleroth
In Marea 4,865,658 51.14% 77 51.33%
Partis Laboris 4,522,086 47.53% 72 48.00%
Partis Nationalisti 117,684 1.24% 1 0.67%

Korgana
In Marea 4,019,949 37.33% 56 37.33%
Partis Nationalisti 3,449,783 32.04% 48 32.00%
Partis Laboris 3,286,741 30.52% 46 30.67%

Kal Serathi
Partis Laboris 4,676,627 44.34% 67 44.67%
Partis Nationalisti 4,050,342 38.40% 58 38.67%
In Marea 1,808,993 17.15% 25 16.67%

West Shadar
Partis Laboris 8,798,483 71.08% 107 71.33%
In Marea 3,568,671 28.83% 43 28.67%

East Shadar
In Marea 5,074,453 53.15% 80 53.33%
Partis Laboris 3,297,137 34.54% 52 34.67%

Ex-Caesar de Senatum dies
Kyrian Aetius Flavius, Secretary of the party In Marea from 4098 to 4109 and Caesar de Senatum of Selucia from 4100 to 4109, dies at the age of 62

Sad news come to Selucia today. The portavox of In Marea Possumus Facere, Tera Pisthis, has announced that Kyrian Aetius Flavius has died this night after a heart attack. The Ex-Caesar the Senatum from 4100 to 4109, during which legislatures tha party had absolute majority, retired from public life in 4120, after rumours of illness came to the public eye. In recent interviews on TV, however, different members of his party confirmed that he was totally fine and just needed some rest from his previous life.
Being said as one of the most appreciated Caesares de Senatum, contributed to the ratification of new treaties to improve the life of Selucians and aimed to talks with the rest of parties of Selucia in order to make a nation full of freedom and order.
In Marea also announced his condolences to the family and five days of mourning in which they will dress totally in black and with no public apparitions except for the votings in the Ekklesía of national laws.

Tul. Aurorianus Palea Re-Nominated by Partis Laboris
May 4129
Image
Above, Tullius Aurorianus Palea at the Party Convention
Tullius Aurorianus Palea has been re-nominated in the Partis Laboris at the Partis Laboris Convention in Saturnium. The competition was not tight. Most party leaders were able to get behind Palea for Consul de Popularis (Consul of the People). He also had a ringing endorsement from Religio Seluciana leaders and affiliated trade unions of the party. However, the Associationem Tabaci Agricolae, Scutulis, et Negotiatores favored Titus Adonibalus, current Foreign Minister, with 80% of their delegation in support of him. Overall, these are the results

Tullius Aurorianus Palea: 91%
Titus Adonibalus: 6%
Decimus Iunius: 2%

Tullius Aurorianus Palea, with his success as an incumbent leader, was not expected to lose the election and will continue to likely be favored by the party

The Rise of Titus Adonibalus
May 4130
Image
[i]Titus Adonibalus, Legatus Primus (head diplomat--Minister of foreign affairs) relaxing in his office

Titus Adonibalus is a pragmatic contradiction. He shys away from moral issues promoted by Partis Laboris, while bringing a moral tone to politics. He has successfully brought ratification of the Majatra Anti-Slavery Accord, composed and pushed ratification of Treaty of Friendship with Lourenne.

However this is not without failures. He was widely criticized for attempting to join the Majatran Sea Treaty Organization, and condemned for frivolity with his attempt to join the Terran Wrestling Organization. Nevertheless, he is unphased. His critics only bother him slightly, as one can gather from interviews.

Titus Adonibalus is also a very young man, around 35 years of age, and always seen in two piece suits and highly glossed and fussily manicured hair. Yet he exudes confidence and vitality, and is able to reconcile both sides of his party around foreign policy. His critics, though he tries to appease them, are often hard to work with. He is widely estimated to have his eyes on a higher position in the future, perhaps Consul or Caesar of the Senate

Does Tullius Aurorianus Palea have a Mistress? Scandal!
December 4131
Image
Above: Linnaea Drusilla, a dancer from Hieronynum who is reported to be having an affair with the Consul Popularis

According to a leaked memo from a top T. Aurorianus Palea aid, he is seeing an exotic dancer from Hieronymum under suspicious pretenses. The married Consul was also photographed by tabloid reporters, the day after the election, eating dinner with Linnaea Drusilla in an upscale restaurant in Florentia, the capital. The leaked memo in question is reported, in which the Consul states to "bring her into the Palatine Palace quietly, and don't allow lower level staffers to see her". The Consul, who is 65 years old and married to Flavia Metella Palea, a 55 year old economist within the finance ministry, has denied any wrongdoing or infidelity in the following quote:

I have no eyes for anyone but my beloved wife, these criticisms are merely the harsh bane of detractors. I am busy in the service of the Selucian republic, and stand devoted to fidelity, morality, and local autonomy, as well as the dignity of labor and work. These claims stand in bitter contrast to the values that I have exhibited over the years.

General Secretary of In Marea Possumus Facere announces her resignation
After the 4135 Selucian elections, General Secretary Athena Scudo blames herself for the bad results

Image
Athena Scudo the day she was announced as the new Secretary of In Marea Possumus Facere

After the high expectations her candidature to Caesar de Senatum gave to all Selucia, ex-Minister of Defence from 4106 to 4111, ex-Caesar de Senatum de Selucia from 4119-4123 and Secretary of In Marea Possumus Facere, Athena Scudo, has announced her resignation of that position in the party after the third consecutive elections where it loses seats in the Magna Ekklesía de Selucia.

"Criticisms can be assumed, but they erode you inside". Those were her first words in front of all the journalists inside the Emperum Theatre, in Auroria.

"It makes me so sad and hard to say those words, but we should make self-criticism when voters turn their back to us, and I am the first person to do it. We had a warning in the 4127 elections, where we lost more than 400 seats, but we did not take care of it. Then again in the 4131 elections, and once more in the 4135 elections. Voters do not want the things we are saying. And, as Secretary of my party, it is my work to try to explain our ideas to Selucian people. And it is clear that either they do not share them or they did not understand them. This is why I am resigning. I want to give my position to anyone in my party prepared enough to lead it, and to attract voters again. I do not be leaving politics in any case, and soon you will see why. I want to say sorry once more to everyone who put high expectations on me as Caesar de Senatum, because I clearly could not fill them."

With those sad words Athena Scudo says goodbye to her position in the leftist party, leaving behind a path full of hopes. One of the most powerful women in the nation, she was highly critizised by the conservative part of the population because of having "a woman governing them". However, she tried to do her best to reach everyone, but failed in some key aspects as trying to start conversations with right-wing parties. With her resignment, In Marea will have to hold Secretary elections as soon as its General Assembly says so, which will probably take part in the incoming months. Athena Scudo is the second Secretary, after Percy Lacoonte, that leaves their position after bad results in the elections.

Political earthquake in Selucia
Remaining parties aim to join forces after the dissolution of two major parties

After the 4135 Selucian elections, the appointment of a new government seemed harder than ever in Selucia's history.
With a historical rise of the far-right party Factio Conservativas (getting more than 300 out of 750 possible seats in the national assembly), an antifascist front was formed in the nation, making impossible a far-right government formation, with the proposed cabinet receiving 307 votes in favour (Factio Conservativas), 374 votes against (In Marea Possumus Facere, Simul Prorsum, Partis Laboris and Magni Iucunda Imperialium) and the key: 69 abstentions from Partis Nationalisti, which was supposed to be in the new Government but finally decided not to vote for it. With those results, new elected Consul de Popularis, Tera Pisthis, from In Marea Possumus Facere (elected with the support of Simul Prorsum), urged the parties to look for a solution or new elections would have to be called.

Image
Tera Pisthis announcing the failure of the Cabinet proposed by Factio Conservativas and the need to form a new Government as soon as possible.

Titus Adonibalus remained as caretaker Caesar de Senatum until a new one is elected, but early this morning Selucia was shocked by two big news: Partis Laboris announced its dissolution and Factio Conservativa was dissolved with no further explanation.

With those news, the Ekklesñia de Selucia was formed with only 374 seats. In Marea Possumus Facere, the second most voted party in the elections, took the lead in proposing a Cabinet, with its General Secretary, Aelius Celer, pronouncing the following words:
"With this weird political situation, it is the turn of all the parties to work together and try to form a Government as soon as possible, so we can do what citizens need. For this reason, we are calling all the remaining parties to join us in formal conversations to create a new cabinet."

Finally, Partis Nationalisti decided not to join the conversations, leaving Simul Prorsum, Magni Iucunda Imperialium and In Marea Possumus Facere as the Government parties, with the following proposed cabinet, which is supposed to be approved before the end of the year 4136:

Head of Government (Caesar de Senatum): In Marea Possumus Facere

Foreign Affairs: In Marea Possumus Facere

Internal Affairs: Simul Prorsum - Forward Together

Finance: Magni Iucunda Imperialium

Defence: In Marea Possumus Facere

Justice: In Marea Possumus Facere

Infrastructure and Transport: Magni Iucunda Imperialium

Health and Social Services: Simul Prorsum - Forward Together

Education and Culture: In Marea Possumus Facere

Science and Technology: Simul Prorsum - Forward Together

Food and Agriculture: Simul Prorsum - Forward Together

Environment and Tourism: Magni Iucunda Imperialium

Trade and Industry: Simul Prorsum - Forward Together

UPDATE: Partis Nationalisti was also dissolved as it could not fill the expectations it wanted when it was formed.

Selucian Ambassador to Istalia conference
This morning, Selucian Ambassador to Istalia, Kaeso Ryanis, has been called by Caesar de Senatum de Selucia (also known as Prime Minister) Aelius Celer, in order to report the recent restrictive laws that are being implemented in Istalia:
Selucia and Istalia has shared more than fifty years of common cooperation and support. However, in recent months new parties in the Repubblica have been applying restrictive measures that go directly against liberty and human rights. Our nation will not break relations with the Repubblica, but in those times, and always, we think is important to express when someone does not agree with other people. Selucia wants to ask the new parties to reconsider the laws they are intending to apply. We do not intend to interfere in how a Government has to apply its ideology as they have been chosen by their own people, but we do want to express our disagreement with it.

Regnum or Res publica?
Selucian parties make the first step into a national name change

After years of national debate between parties, the bill has passed to debate step. In Marea Possumus Facere, the party that has defended the idea of the national name change since its formation, has come to an agreement with most of the parties (including MII, SP and SC) in order to introduce the changein the nation. Among the reasons, In Marea, from the voice of caretaker Caesar de Senatum Aelius Celer, alleged that
There is no reason for our nation to be named "Regnum de Selucia" (Kingdom of Selucia), when Kings and Imperators were left in the past long ago. Our nation, and I am proud to say that, elects directly its leaders, and there is no one in Government because of being the son or daughter of someone else. Everyone has to be chosen by Selucians. And I am certainly proud of this. Therefore, it should be named "Res publica de Selucia, and it would be an honour for me to be Caesar de Senatum at the moment of this big change, but in case I am not the next Caesar de Senatum (as we are still negotiating the future cabinet), I hope the next one will keep in this path and finish this great work parties have done. There has also been suggested to return to a Constitutional Monarchy in order to fit also with the name, but we firmly oppose to this, because of the previous reasons.
