Liberal Democratic Party chooses future !

The Liberal Democratic Party primaries are over and with a very slight margin (51,8% to 48,2%) Micheal Wallace has been elected Chairman-elect and Presidential Candidate of the LDP come election time. Micheal visited President Furhat and gained his thoughts and suggestions on the elections and the future of the party. After the meeting Micheal said:”We will be looking to Ceaser’s wisdom in the future aswell,As you know he is a very close friend of mine and we will probably be meeting alot in future *laughs*”. Micheal is seen as a carbon-copy of the President which he has been friends with since childhood. Micheal is a founding member of the LDP just like the President and has been the Vice-Chairman since the Parties creation in 4496. Micheal thanked the LDP council for electing him and promised Ethan Sawyer that he will be his Foreign Minister aswell,to which Ethan responded with a smile and a nod.

President Ceaser Furhat’s final speech as President

Hello my fellow citizens,
As you know this will be my final speech as your President,my final time in the spotlight, can’t say it was easy, but it was so damn fun. We had great 18 years together in the Presidential Suite, Passing many needed and successful reforms and creating a free, fair and economically thriving Kalistan. Now there were times we did not see eye to eye with our collegues both inside and outside our parliament, however i can say one thing for certain, every single man and woman in the Assembly wants the best for the nation. Now,ofcourse goodbye speeches would not be goodbye speeches without some “thanks”.First of all Thanks to all the people that believed in me and the LDP and granted me 7
Mandates as President and granted my party 18 years of power which i hope and believe will continue. I would like to thank the people who did not vote for me aswell for contributing in our democracy. I would like to thank the Conservatives for forming the first coalition with us, I would like to thank the New Way for giving us the most aid when it was needed the most, I would like to thank the SPoK and UKWF for being great competition and opposition, finally I would like to thank the Patriots for endorsing me in the last election and for adding some “color” to the Parliament. Finally I would like to say,Believe in yourselves,Believe in something bigger than yourselves and dont say impossible because impossible is nothing. When i formed the LDP,constantly the media and “pundits” called our program as “impossible”,they said we could never gain support and pass reforms in the hard-socialist Kalistan, they said a free-market and Liberty was impossible to pursue and achieve. Well i stand proud today having achieved all of this and with my head high i say LONG LİVE PROSPEROUS KALİSTAN.Good luck to my party and my friend Micheal in the upcoming elections, im sure he will make a great President. Thank you all !

Narelle Ewart Wins Presidential Election
A Great Victory, but at What Cost?
Image
President Narelle Ewart Gives Victory Speech in the National Assembly 13/10/4518

Narelle Ewart of the National Conservative Party, with the endorsements of the Socialist party of Kalistan and the United Kalistani Worker's Front, winning the Presidency for the NCP for the first time in fifty-nine years. But the news isn't entirely bright for Kalistani Conservatives. Although the NCP has won the Presidency, the party has lost ten seats in the legislature and, if that wasn't enough, the Patriotic League somehow managed to obtain an astonishing FIFTY extra seats, giving the anti-Kalistan party forty percent of the seats in the National Assembly.

Although it seems to have backfired horribly, the National Conservative Party claims that it will still continue its Conservative Blitz in the hopes of stripping power from the, to quote NCP Director Patrick Kearney, "Authoritarian/Liberal Axis of Evil" and to restore power and order to Kalistan's economy. President Ewart has also announced her vow to assist the Ministry of Defense in any way possible to modernize the weakened and outdated Kalistani Regular Forces.

When asked by Right View reporters what her plans were for her Presidency, Narelle Ewart gave the following statement:
Obviously, I've already stated that one of my top priorities was to help modernize the army, but my other plans were to reopen some of the closed national industries which provided our nation with the lifeblood of our economic and military power. Unfortunately, with the unexpected gains of the Patriotic League in the election, I don't believe we'll be able to do that. They usually vote against Kalistan's interests. We'll try nonetheless. Hopefully they'll have a stroke of genius and at least allow us to reopen KalMilInCo and possibly even KalNaPeCo and KalNaFerCo. Hopefully.

After attempting to include the Patriotic League in the cabinet, negotiations for the formation of the government have been postponed until the beginning of next year due the PL accepting no positions less than Premier of the Republic, which President Ewart has promised to give to the SPoK for their continued endorsement of her for the Presidency.

Socialists find a bit of paradise in the Wilderness
A brief interview with the Premier of the Republic

Kaliburg, Ananto
October 25, 4518

Widely expected to retain the Premiership, Georgia Van Wyck takes aim at outdated military

We sat down with the Premier of the Republic and Leader of the SP, Georgia Van Wyck for a few moments just before she introduced the Socialist Positions Omnibus 1, designed to scramble positions of the Plurality Party. During the couple moments we had with her, she described what happened in the election, and what she intends to do with the next term.

(Izquierda Reporter) J(osephine) C(alderon): Comrade Premier, while we have you here, could you please fill us in on why the Liberals and the Patriots did so well?

G(eorgia) V(an) W(yck): Well, the answer is simple. We are, at most, a two Party system of government, and we have five Parties which seriously compete. Three Parties have adopted an institutionalist position, while two Parties have mirrored our positions in everything but one or two areas. We have basically one Party serving as Opposition and 4 Parties more or less dividing the remaining vote. So the Opposition, with 40% all to themselves, while the other Parties essentially divide the remaining 60% up between them, ranging anywhere from 22 to 9 percent. Obviously, one Party wins in that situation.

JC: What does the Socialist Party intend to do in the coming term, now that they represent such a tiny portion of the Assembly.

GVW: We intend to push military updates. We have some promising news from Consortium Partners on aircraft development. Plus, we are interested in working with some arms suppliers overseas to begin bringing updated weaponry in Kalistan. We would like to purchase the designs, actually, and build them here. That is the ultimate goal. Kalistan does not intend to be beholden to other nations for our national defense.

JC: Members of your Party recently oversaw the launch of the National Defense Consortium. How do Socialists intend for this to work?

GVW: Well, there is a contradiction in the law which says that most of the Defense Industries are meant to be owned by the State, but then the State is to be an investor of last resort. Since the Government refuses to operate the industries to benefit the Republic, the National Defense Consortium will continue to carry out the legitimate work of the State, acting as a quasi public sector set of companies but from the Private Sector. In the event of Nationalization, then the National Defense Consortium will transfer the property back to the National Government at the same cost that the National Government received (in many cases, 1 KRB) to reform the National Industries.

JC: What is your position on the possibility of sitting in Government with the Patriots?

GVW: We asked the President to consider the appointment for the Patriots, given that they are the Plurality. They immediately insisted on the Pemiership, which I think the President is correct to reject, given that the Patriots ran against the President. The Patriots want to put very restrictive laws in place. We think they ought to be given a seat, but ultimately the determination belongs to the President.

JC: What are your plans for legislation this term?

GVW: We plan on being more active in naming legislation. The goal is to scramble positions around. Once positions are scrambled, we will not see these sort of results in the future. We are not content to let the Liberals and the Patriots switch off with monopolizing things. We are going to force them onto the Political Right, where they belong, and then they will get to split up the 37% of rightwing votes between them. The strategy often works, and has been a winning strategy in the past, and it is time we begin to re-employ it. I hope you will excuse me, as I am now needed on the floor.

JC: Goo luck with the Omnibus.

GVW: We don't need luck. We do not expect the bill to pass. We merely want to force the Right to take their correct positions.

JC: Indeed. Thank you Comrade Premier.

GVW: Thank you, Comrade Reporter.

President Ewart fails Exam !

After the October elections the NCP candidate Narelle Ewart gained the Presidency while the Patriotic League gained the majority with the LDP coming in second. Clearly Ceaser was missed not only by the LDP but the whole nation aswell when the Fast and Decisive management of the President was not emulated by the new President as her negotiation skills failed to manage a majority government and even till today a Minority İnterim Government is in place. This process was shown as a clear sign that the nation needed a second chance to decide as the PL pushed a vote of no confidence and re-elections with the LDP supporting. The combined 165 Seats will clearly be enough to start new elections which the President might be on her way out from. The LDP Chairman was first enthusiastic with the new President, congratulating her and wishing the best however things took a turn for the south with the President denying negotiations and pulling for the leftist side in the coalition talks. When asked of the election results which saw a 10 seat loss and a first-turn loss for Wallace,Chairman Micheal Wallace had this to say:”We clearly failed to explain that even though Ceaser left, his enthusiasim, his hope, his drive is still alive here, thats what we will try to explain hopefully come next election time”

Premier Van Wyck delivers Victory Speech after Snap Elections
"They have undone the 4518 Elections" says Van Wyck

Kaliburg, Ananto

Premier of the Republic set to return to Opposition Speaker within coming months

"We are still waiting for the President of the Republic to concede their loss in the recent elections," said Premier of the Republic Georgia Van Wyck. She leads a Party, along with coalition Partners in the NCP and the UKWF which is headed for oblivion status now that snap elections are over following the collapse in government talks over the last seven months, but she sounds amazingly upbeat, as she addresses hardcore supporters at SPoK headquarters in Kaliburg.

She has reason to be upbeat. "We had a net gain in our Legislative seat count during the last election of 4 Seats. From small, small acorns, Comrades, grow the mighty oaks. This is just a start."

Van Wyck touts the Omnibus bills proposed by both the SP and the NCP since the last election. "We got them on record. They took a stand. And when those bills finally close, its going to show the people what these Rightists REALLY are: a gang of thugs and destroyers! They don't care about Kalistan's institutions. They just want to remove everything in their way. What's the Patriot League's ultimate goal? I don't want to say it is something like a legislative coup or anything... But if you look at how they vote. They vote against the interests of every single one of us in this Room tonight, against the interests of freedom, against the interests of security. They want to have nuclear weaponry and segregation! Can you believe this? And they say they are making this country Great. Well: We're taking it to them. No more can they sit comfortably on the positions that got them a surprise victory three years ago. They are going to take the tough stands and by God, they are going to differentiate themselves from other Parties, and not in a good way either. We are going to hit them and hit them and hit them until they lose that majority. And then you better believe, we'll never hear from them again."

The Premier, who expects to lose her position within the next few months, likely to the Liberals, has promised that the Right is going to have to govern alone. "We ain't gonna give them NO votes, unless it is for renationalization. We will vote for their bills if they start acting like proper socialists. Otherwise, they can govern alone, and we will go on going what we do best, which is running this Country, even if it is without the Government. We have good partners: It is only a matter of time before the extremely lopsided results we've seen in recent elections even out for all of us, and then, well, three is more than two. Surely even they can do that math."

The Premier touted the signature accomplishment of the Ewart Administration: "The President of the Republic was wise enough to call the Constitutional Court into session when it was clear that the Patriots were going to steal the office from her. We plan to look at how to use that Court to try the Prerogative. One question we want resolved: Is it incumbent that the President should be able to name the Government that SHE thinks is appropriate: I mean. Is the role of the Assembly JUST consent, or do the Assembly have some sort of binding authority over the matter. Our attorneys are looking into the best judicial strategy to set precedent once and for all. Its too late to help President Ewart, but it is our hope that the matter can be resolved for the Future."

All in all, the Premier did not sound like a person who had just lost an election. "No, we did not lose. You can't destroy Kalistan with one simple election. As we have told the Government: Its a matter of time. In just over seventy years, the Socialist Party of Kalistan will celebrate its 2000th Anniversary. We have learned a thing or two in that time. And the first one is that the SP is the Eternal Party of Kalistan. Ideologies based on division and power acquisition, and their respective demagogues, don't tend to last long in this country. Only those who support the institutions of the country."

Looks like the Premier is kicking the term off with a roundhouse. We'll stay tuned to see how Act two of this political drama plays out.

People vote:NO CONFIDENCE !

The early general and presidential elections which were called by the PL and supported by the LDP after 7 months of no-government,resulted in Narelle Ewart leaving office without completing even 1 year in office. The Liberal Democratic Party decided to not push a candidate in the elections and endorsed the Patriotic League Presidential Candidate Micheal Blake while the rest of the parties supported the re-election of Narelle however Blake ended up winning the Presidential Election with almost 55% of the vote meanwhile the LDP gained 7 extra seats from the elections along with the previous 60 being retained the number of LDP Deputies increases to 67 Seats and again the LDP became the second largest party in Parliament. Now the eyes are anxiously fixed on what road will be taken with the first ever Patriotic League President in history, Will the PL/LDP Co-operation continue or will a broader coalition be aimed, whatever the path,Everyone is hoping that finally a functional government can be formed that can take the place of the Minority İnterim Government which was formed by former President Ceaser in 4515 and because of President Narelle’s failure to manage a majority had to serve an extra 7 months. Out of all of this uncertainty we managed to get a few words from the former President, When asked of the current political climate, Ceaser Furhat had this to say:”The President has a very important responsibility,to ensure a stable majority government full of compromise and balance,İf the President cannot fulfill this very key assignment of his/her mandate then there would be much questions and less belief in his/her abilities for the future”. When asked about Micheal Wallace and his performance as Chairman:”Micheal is a very ambitious man,He is smart and talented,He has had a rough start with the elections but regardless he will get used to the arena and the people will get used to Ceaser-less LDP and learn to trust it. The Party did begin with me but it will certainly not end with me,the LDP isnt a one-time fling,it is a revolution against pressure,it is the people saying ENOUGH ! To the government. As long as their are people that say ENOUGH to government pressure and misuse, there will be the Liberal Democratic Party.”

Eight Months of Glory
An Interview with President Narelle Ewart Regarding Her Eight Month Term and the Legislative Coup Against Her
Image
President Ewart Giving Right View Live Reporter Post Election Interview 14/5/4519

President Narelle Ewart was removed from her office today by a legislative coup conducted by the Patriotic league and Liberal Democratic Party after they refused to sit in her government. They cite their reason for this coup to be that "President Ewart failed to form a government, instead she relied off of the government formed by President Caesar Furhat and interim ministers appointed to former LDP positions." The LDP even went as far to claim that there was no government since the legislature had not approved of it, apparently they were unaware of the Presidential Prerogative. After the early elections, the Patriotic League once again came out at the top of the legislature, but this time also holding the Presidency which they had stolen from President Ewart.

President Narelle Ewart had agreed to give us this interview two months after her deposition
Donna Jackson's Interview with Narelle Ewart 17/4519

Jackson: Good afternoon, Ms. Ewart. Thank you for this interview.

Ewart: No, thank you, I'd very much like to speak publicly about what just happened.

Jackson: Before we get into the more dramatic bits, can you first tell us briefly what you have achieved during your short Presidency?

Ewart: Well, first of all, don't listen to the Liberals and Patriots, I did form a government. Both the LDP and PL refused to sit in our government and the LDP ministers went as far as to resign because they weren't catered to their exact demands. We did form form a government, an interim government and my opponents would have you think I'd have the interim government sit until 4521. No. I don't believe they know what interim means. I've also called the National Constitutional Court, originally to argue the legality of interim ministers, but do to the coup, I guess they're just sitting now for the next six years. And lastly, but most importantly, I triggered this legislative coup, which is better than you'd expect. We now know who exactly are our enemies, which parties will act like children when they don't get their way, who knows nothing about Kalistan or how its governed, and who are just snakes with a lust for power. Our coalition even had a net increase in seats after the election. The only bad thing about my Presidency was its end, that's unlike certain other recent Presidents who ran our economy into the ground and neutered our military. But hey, all that doesn't compare to my "failure" to form a government.

Jackson: Why did the Liberal Democrats and Patriots refuse to sit in government?

Ewart: Well, the Patriots refused for a simple and understandable reason: I refused to grant them the Premiership. Their logic was that since they were the largest party in Kalistan, they should get the Premiership. Now that's not bad logic, but it does show ignorance of tradition. In Kalistan, as you know, Presidents appoint their supporters to the seat of Premier before their opponents, which is what we planned on doing. But the Patriots don't know anything about Kalistan. It's like they're foreign agents, Trigunian bots, haha... As for the Liberal Democrats, they demanded that we give them four ministries and an oath to not support any nationalization bills, which that last part was absurd, so they changed their second demand to support their tax cuts. I made them a counter argument: You support the recreation and nationalization of KalMilInCo, and we support your tax cuts. They refused, apparently confused as to how someone would have the gall to make a demand of the mighty LDP, party of Caesar the privatizer. I don't like what the formation of governments has become. These demands show complete disrespect to the Prerogative and the people, and isn't it surprising that this disrespect has spawned from the parties that clearly skipped their schooling.

Jackson: What do you think about the election of president Michael Blake from the Patriotic League?

Ewart: Oh, I'm not worried. As strange as it sounds to say it, the LDP is the voice of reason in the cabinet. I don't believe there's a chance in hell that the PL would be able to pass any damaging laws, unless the LDP has traded away what shreds remains of their love for Kalistan behind closed doors with Patriot representatives. I'm not worried at all, I'm sure the LDP has more dignity than that.

Jackson: What do you think about President Blake's National Defense Reform Act?

Ewart: It won't pass, and if it does, we'll riot. It's an obvious consolidation of power by getting rid of any possible armed opposition to Blake's regime. It won't pass.

Jackson: The National Conservative Party obviously endorsed Georgia Van Wyck in the early election, does that mean you'll no longer be the NCP's Presidential candidate?

Ewart: Yes, the President must be friendly towards the other parties, and I have no respect for a certain few. I'm just going to go home to Neveras. I was originally planning on returning to the National Assembly, but I'm sick of the cutthroat Kaliburg politics. Maybe I'll run for governor, but this is my last year in Kaliburg.

Jackson: Thank you for your time Ms. Ewart, bu we're out of it.

Ewart: It's over? That's too bad, I had a few more criticisms I wanted to give.

Government finally formed after 7 months !

After 7 months of drought a coalition government has finally been formed. The instigators of the Early Elections, the Patriotic League and Liberal Democratic Party have formed a coalition government which was proposed by President Blake to Parliament, with a combined Seat count of 166,this government is expected to be a stable one which is needed by the people who have suffered through interim government and instability since Ceaser Furhat left office. The New government labeled “Patriotic Liberals Government” is expected to push through new reforms however the different ethics in social policy may be an issue which will need resolvement. With the Conservatives switching considerably to the Left-wing the Staunch Free-market LDP found no alternative to joining with the Patriotic League to continue their government. The LDP gained 5 ministries from the two-party coalition and also the Premier of the Republic which will lead the government is from the Liberal Democratic Party. The new Premier of the Republic is Haytham Kennedy,a young Liberal who joined the LDP in 4503,He served as the youth-wing leader from 4505 to 4510 and then was named to the LDP council in 4511 by Ceaser. A charismatic man, Kennedy is seen as a future leader within the LDP and no doubt will prove himself with being the Premier in the new Government.

Institutionalist Bloc calls for Work Stoppage in Kaliburg
Concert, Party lasts late into the night

Kaliburg, Ananto
November 19, 4519

Image
Tens of thousands pack into Nationalist Square for Kaliburg Work Stoppage and Rally

An impromptu work stoppage protesting unjust legislation being proposed in National Government was called this afternoon. The Socialist Party called the Work Stoppage in support of the Militias and the National Safety Net, and the call was heeded by members of the Institutionalist Bloc in Kaliburg. Similar work stoppages occurred throughout the Republic and were accompanied by rallies, concerts and general comraderie. It is also believed that many members of the LDP joined in, enjoying the great music and general fellowship with their countrymen and women.

"What the Government is doing is just unbelievable. They are systematically dismantling Kalistan, piece by piece," said SP member Francesca Hernandez. "We are standing up today to remind them that they only represent the people who voted for them, and nobody else. And we will disobey the law if we have to, and will KEEP walking out until they temper their destructive policies."

The Kaliburg Rally was attended by 45,000 workers from across the district, and even some foreign visitors. Lourennais native Henri Dupont de la Maison said, "Well, we were just, eh, how do you say, seeing your sites... and this eh musique broke out here in the plaza and we were lucky enough to hear it... We Love Kalistan, its music is far and away much better than anything we have in Lourenne. Luckily I have the, eh, how do you say... The shortwave... I get your marvelous radio at home... But... they do not compete in the baguettes... In this, ONE, categorie, there is, shall we say, no contest."

Image
7500 gather in Neveras City to heed the call of the Work Stoppage and to hear local folk Rock here Bruce Jones sing about the plight of the worker

Work stoppages will be organized across the country during the coming weeks and months. It is uncertain whether music will accompany the events.

In other news, Socialist controlled National Defense Consortium has agreed to not supply the the National Government with weapons or ammunition, and will instead divert all production to the needs of the Institutionalist Militias. "We cannot, in good conscience, give the Patriots the Tools to kill socialists and other Parties defending the Institutions of this nation from destroyers," said Consortium Chairwoman Delores DiVerdes. "Its really ironic, actually. If the Government had just left the Industries we now control Nationalized, this would not be a problem. But I suppose they will have to look around now to find a new source of bullets. No doubt it will be far more expensive for them than it would have been if our industries had just supplied them. But in another supreme twist of irony: They just cut taxes, so they will be even less able to buy bullets than they used to be... How shortsighted of the Government..."

Kalistani Defense Consortium announced the final acquisition of the old factories under the Kalistani Military Industry Company. This follows their acquisition of the final outstanding assets of the old KalNaPeCo and KalnaFerCo over the last year.
