FOOTBALL FINALS

Ras al-Ulima February16, 4859: The final match of the season after the Muhafazah playoffs were the Ras al-Ulima Horned Vipers versus the The Al -e-Ahmad City Fragrant Blossoms. The first quarter saw numerous attempts to score but only one goal was actually scored that by the Horned Vipers when something had distracted the opposing goalie. In the second quarter the Fragrant Blossoms were able to score once as its star forward repeatedly Abdul Sharji received passes and fired kicks into the goalie. In the third quarter the fragrant blossoms simply overpowered the Horned Vipers scoring three times. In the fourth quarter the Horned Vipers rallied and scored once in a dramatic pressure pass sequence and once on a penalty shot.

The Al -e-Ahmad City Fragrant Blossoms are the winners of the 4859 Two Island Football Cup by a score of 4 to 3. They are sponsored by Ben Faisal Motors.

The runner up team was the Ras al-Ulima Horned Vipers sponsored by the Genie Hotel and Casino.

Bier Qassem, June 6, 4859: After a cabinet meeting today, President Mustapha al-Makhtoum indicated that Jumhuriat al-Badara had been in contact with More Medicaments Manufactures (3M) and had discussed the proposal in the Majatran Economic Association (MEA):

As it turns out, 3M will continue to operate. We have reached an agreement with 3M for access to its full array of prescription drugs for a monthly subscription rate. The difference between the current agreement and the prior agreement is that should 3M again enter a period of drifting into default under its contract that liquidated damages have been settled upon and 3M waives all claims of patent violations which may be necessary to fill prescriptions. The cabinet is happy with this agreement.

The Finance Ministry has proposed to the MEA that it establish a Majatran pharmaceutical wholesaler which would give an opportunity for pharmacies throughout Majatra to have a wide variety of suppliers to fill their prescription drug needs and to serve as a safeguard to those needing prescription drugs should another widespread economic downturn be created.

We expect this proposal to be forgotten. Why? It neither does the obvious economic maneuver of making a deal with 3M to be one of the suppliers on good terms currently available for the MEA nor does it proclaim that 3M is evil. So neither point of view on the proposal is satisfied. So it goes.

Jarthurni Class Frigate

FRIGATES FROM SOUTH OCEAN SHIPYARD

Ras el-Haram, August 16, 4860: The Ministry of Defense has contracted with South Ocean Shipyard to produce 10 frigates over the next 10 years. The frigates will be a slight upgrade from the existing frigates of the Navy of Jumhuriat al-Badara. It is quite possible some of the existing frigates will be put in storage or decommissioned as the new frigates come on line.

The President of South Ocean Shipyard, Jamal IX al-Sadr, indicated that several other entities will be involved in the project. All were involved in the original start up of South Ocean Shipyard except Udayl Gunnery. South Ocean currently produces freighters, cruise liners, crude oil tankers, refined petroleum product tankers and natural gas tankers.

It will bring in Udayl Gunnery, a spin off of Ground Forces Weaponry, Inc., to produce the armament. Al’Fostat Specialty Steel will design and produce the armor. The Interuniversity Department of Reverse Engineering of the National Institute of Technology and Majatran University of Badara will provide design expertise while Marakesh Digital, the consulting digital and engineering firm owned by the Qahtani family, will oversee coordination of the electrical and digital systems.

The Jamal Class Frigate is the existing class of guided missile frigate currently in service in the Navy of Jumhuriat al-Badara. It has one helicopter, carries 16 surface to air missiles and 8 anti submarine rockets as well as 6 torpedo tubes and a five inch naval gun. It displaces 2640 tons, has a length of 414 feet and a beam of 44 feet, with a draught of 14 and one half feet. The Jamal Class has a speed of 27.2 knots and a range of 4000 nautical miles.

The Jarthurni Class frigate to be manufactured by South Ocean has one helipad with one helicopter, carries 8 surface to surface missiles, 16 surface to air or surface to surface missiles, 24 torpedoes, 6 .50 caliber machine guns and two naval guns. It displaces 4770 tons and has a length of 440 feet, a beam of 53 feet and a draught of 16 feet one inch. The Jathurni Class has a speed in excess of 30 knots and a range of 9770 nautical miles. It is powered by two gas turbine engines and 1 diesel engine and has two controllable pitch propellers.

Chancellor Mustapha al-Makhtoum

LAB GROWN CHICKEN AT NIT

Bier Qassem, December 6, 4861: After a cabinet meeting today, Chancellor Mustapha al-Makhtoum announced that the Ministries of Science and Technology and Food and Agriculture will be funding a project at the National Institute of Technology Zoology Department to grow chicken meat from stem cells with a view to making a lab grown meat product available to food markets in Jumhuriat al-Badara.

The impetus for the project is, first, that the environmental impact would be far less than raising and feeding chickens for slaughter and second, that eliminating the killing of the birds would seem to be more humane than current practice. If successful the project could be expanded to other meat eaten by the Jumhuriat al-Badara population such as beef and fish. This project is not intended to appeal to vegetarians but to people who eat meat but would like to reduce the environmental impact.

Stem cells from the outside of chickens are taken and initially grown in petri dishes in a laboratory but when it reaches production scale it will be produced in giant meat fermenters so production will resemble a brewery or a greenhouse depending on the ultimately most effective method. The biological engineered product will be meat, in this case chicken and will taste like chicken.

Having a Majatran Pharmaceutical Network is a good idea. We will make one last effort to get it through the Majatran Economic association. Failing in that we will see if several nations would like to join in a launch. Failing in that we will leave it to future generations to correct our mistakes.

MEA PHARMACEUTICAL DECISIONS

Bier Qassem, January 23, 4864: President Magdalena al-Jabbar announced after a cabinet meeting that Finance Minister Karim al-Sabah would introduce the following proposal in the Majatran Economic Association:

Majatran Economic Association (MEA) Pharmaceutical Proposal
This will constitute actual proposal by Jumhuriat al-Badara to launch a Majatran pharmaceutical wholesaler.

First, there is ownership. One idea which is the More Medicaments Manufacturing (3M) model is nations’ have shares in the organization. We propose instead that the MEA itself own the organization as an international corporation and that the MEA members name the board of directors. It would not be a non profit but rather shares of stock would be sold in stock markets.

Second, there will definitely be start up costs. Jumhuriat al-Badara intends to put up funds as previously indicated. If others want to put up funds but need them to be treated as loans, this can be handled as preferred stock. Proposal is funds advanced by nations be preferred stock.

Third, where will we physically locate this operation? Clearly it needs to be in one of our most stable members. The original proposal was Romula and that seems reasonable to Jjumhuriat al-Badara. However, our proposal is the temporary location be Bier Qassem and it be recognized as temporary.

Fourth, what is the structure to be used. The 3M model is ownership of manufacturer, distributor and retailer. We propose rather it be the wholesaler connecting drug manufacturers, Ministries of Health, drug distribution businesses, drug store chains and pharmacies arranging distribution with the mails, air freight and sea transport as necessary. In all probability pricing would initially have to be purchase and sale but ideally eventually could simply be handling.

Fifth, we need a name. We propose Majatran Pharmaceutical Network (MPN).

Sixth, who will actually arrange for management. This was Deltaria’s idea. Badara fleshed out the proposal. Istalia is where operation should have been physically located. Seleucia has successful experience with a huge project, the Gene and Seed Vault. Think any of us could arrange for proper management. Proposal has to be somebody and Jumhuriat al-Bbadara is our proposal.

Seventh, what of arrangements if any with 3M. Think one thing we could do is treat it as one of many possible suppliers from which the wholesaler could purchase. In wake of the recent questions of its stability which seem from recent reporting to have been resolved, we would probably want waivers on any patent violations in which we might engage should it commence defaults again. Liquidated damages might be desirable also. We do realize there is opposition to any deal with 3M. Proposal is this in no way limits a nation in its dealing with 3M but we will see if 3M can be a supplier waiving patent rights if it again goes into non delivery mode.

This then is proposal. It would then be incumbent on us to try and reach other members and encourage participation and reach other Majatran nations to have them join in as well.

Foreign Minister Salman Duqaq

ISSUES IN WC, MEA AND MSO

Bier Qassem, June 23, 4864: Foreign Minister Salman Duqaq took questions after attending the Majlis to vote on repealing some legislation deemed out of date by the government. Asked about the likelihood of war over Rapa Pile, the pharmaceutical proposal in the Majatran Economic Association(MEA), and the Majatran Security Organization(MSO), he responded:

Well, pretty sure Vascanian Empire will annex Rapa Pile. Do not think it is really willing to slow down for a plebiscite. But our guesses have been wrong before.

And then likely Deltaria will go in. Would be nice if World Congress considered authorizing that. Think in this case it is possible the World Congress might have been useful either by sponsoring a vote or authorizing action.

Truth is at this point we do not know what the people of Rapa Pile want. Seriously. Lots of propaganda available though. Think this reflects as a species humans are capable of making moral choices without the capacity to make correct or reasoned choices. So it goes.

We have submitted a plan to the MEA for a pharmaceutical wholesale network, Should it be considered and approved we will proceed with it. The likelihood of this happening is not dead zero.

At this point it looks like Istaliano Impero will name a Secretary General for the MSO. The MSO and MEA ccan be our most important international associations. We are in talks over several measure that in tandem could enhance our MSO participation.

Chancellor Mustapha al-Makhtoum

PHARMACY COMPANY GOING INTO RESEARCH BUSINESS

Bier Qassem, August 6, 4866: After a cabinet meeting today, Chancellor Mustapha al-Makhtoum announced that the Ministries of Science and Technology and Trade and Industry will be funding a project of Al’Fostat Dispensing in conjunction with the National Institute of Technology Pharmacy Department and Marakesh Digital (the digital engineering and consulting firm owned by the Qahtani family) to set up several operations.

Al’Fostat Dispensing whose personnel currently are mostly involved in office, warehouse and transportation work will be opening a research laboratory to look into treatment and hopefully eventually cure of progeria which causes premature aging and early death in children. The laboratory will also be reverse engineering and replicating drugs which have expired patents or whose patents are not enforceable so ultimately this division may be quite profitable.

Also planned are facilities for housing and treatment of progeria patients both for treatment and research. This will be organized as a non profit corporation so that the emphasis can and will be on patient care.

The contractual documents for the loan and corporate organization is being prepared by Aziz, al-Akim, Wallenstein, al-Sharif and Vasilevskii. Vice President for Development at the National Institute of Technology Farrah al-Sharif is coordinating the involvement of the Institute. Hakim al-Sayed, former Chancellor, will be the initial CEO of the non profit.

Foreign Minister Salman Duqaq

PARTICIPATION IN WORLD CONGRESS

Bier Qassem, December 23, 4865: After discussing the World Congress with President Magdalena al-Jabbar and Chancellor Mustapha al-Makhtoum, Foreign Minister Salman Duqaq indicated a different approach to the World Congress may be in order:

Initially our approach was listen and learn. We became convinced the convoluted debate pattern in the General Assembly was designed for failure and the Security Council elections truly dwelt on the trivial. One of the early candidates told us his continent had no representation while another insisted she or he represented the little people.

At some point we switched to primarily watching the actions of the Security Council since we believed that had real power and taking a greater interest in the elections. We were with those wanting the standing armed forces in its hands abolished and the ending of the veto by those temporarily holding “permanent” status.

We think we have discovered another use for the World Congress in the absence of any actual influence on the course of events. Properly approached the World Congress can go a long way toward bringing the truth in international affairs to light. We shall for the time being look to the World Congress for this.

NEW DAWN NASHWA TO PRODUCE FIGHTERS

Ras Al-Ulima, June 16, 4866: The Managing Partner of New Dawn Nashwa(NDN), Khalid al-Qassem, announced today that the Defense Ministry had approved the recommendation of the Air Staff that thirty fighters designated NDN F -15’s be purchased from New Dawn Nashwa. The specifications and technical and engineering capacity were purchased from New Dawn some years ago but this will be the first fighters produced at the Ras al-Ulima facilities of New Dawn Nashwa.

The 30 NDN F-15’s will replace existing aging fighters in the Air Fleet of Jumhuriat al-Badara according to Defense Command.

The NDN F – 15 is a twin engine all weather tactical fighter designed to achieve air superiority although it does possess a secondary ground attack capability. It is equipped with radar that can distinguish between moving objects and ground clutter. The NDN F-15 is highly maneuverable and can engage at visual range. It has a maximum speed of 2955 km/hour at high altitude and 1482 km/hour at sea level with an interdiction range of 1965 km. It has a rate of climb of 250 meters per second and a ceiling of 20,000 meters.

The NDN F- 15 is armed with one 20 mm cannon with 940 rounds as well as 16 missiles.
