Cachtice: Former tech executive Eliška Přibylová has, after a intense and suprising primary within the UPD, won the party its primary election by just one defected delegate. She started her spree by suprisingly winning the home state of Governor Brotz, Alazinder. This was a major blow for the Brotz campaign, which had hoped to secure Darali and by doing so almost completely secure the election. Přibylová suprisingly won in Darali by 30%, securing 200 delegates for her campaign. At first she was believed to be a non serious candidate, not expected to gain much traction in the primary. But this proved not to be the case as her strongly grassroots campaign turned the tide against the name recognition of Brotz and the others. Despite her win in Darali however this second round saw her lose in Doron Akigo, where her moderate rival Mirolav Doležal took the region narrowly, winning his first 75 delegates. While the loss of Darali was a suprise to Broz he did manage to convincingly win the 50 Cachtice delegates, giving him and Přibylová an equall number of delegates heading into the final three contests.

Přibylová continued her suprise winning streak in both Alazinder and Branovice, securing her another 150 delegates for a total of 350, exactly half of the delegates. But then Brotz won Dissuwa convincingly, causing a split in the primary process and a possible contested congress. But, as the party braced for the worse, one Doron Akigan delegate actually pledged to Doležal decided to defect, pledging his vote for Přibylová and thus giving her a majority of the 700 delegates. It has made Přibylová the first female presidential nominee for the UPD since the days of the Empire and Novakova and the first female party leader since that same time. Přibylová is seen as a "new generation" of UPD politicians. Her platform revolves around "humane conservatism" calling for more considerate social laws to be passed and a more open stance to specific social issues. This, in combination with her small government and decentralization message, appealled with many party members handing her the primary win.

Přibylová will now lead the party towards the next election in 3 years, likely pitting two women against eachother in the race for the highest office in the land. Many wonder if the UPD can regain its position as the dominant political force in Deltaria or if it will remain in opossition with this new course.

President el-Salam returns from formal visit to Istalian capital
          2 July 4682

Čachtice, Darali: Shani el-Salam has returned from her first formal visit to Istalia since becoming the President of the Deltarian Federation almost eighteen months ago. During her visit to Romula, el-Salam spent time meeting with various government officials as well as taking in the cultural sites and experiences that the historic Majatran city has to offer. The visit was reportedly particularly special for the President, who claims Majatran-Istalian heritage through her paternal grandmother.

The purpose of the visit was to build upon the close relationship between Deltaria and Istalia as part of a broader initiative by the Solidarity government that has sought to focus on regional security and prosperity as their top priority in international affairs. Both countries have been central parts of the Majatran Security Organisation and the Majatran Economic Association and have worked closely together on a number of mutually beneficial projects. At the end of the visit, both governments agreed in principle to a new bilateral treaty to deepen the Deltarian-Istalian relationship.

El-Salam's Istalian visit comes at a time when she is facing criticism for her foreign policy approach from within her own party. In spite of fierce criticism of previous governments for their "hawkish" foreign policy, the President's policies since entering government have sought to strengthen the military interests of Deltaria abroad through the construction of a naval and air base in Medina and joint naval exercises with Liore. The government have repeatedly rubbished these claims and emphasised they are securing Deltarian and global security.

Cachtice: The Ministry of Defense has approved the R-34 design from SATURN for production. The R-34, meant as a fighter-bomber and strike fighter for the Deltarian Air Force, was being tested over the last year, with several tweaks during testing finally allowing SATURN to approve of the design and pass it onto the MoD for further approval. This week that approval arrived, giving the Deltarian Air Force a dedicated fighter-bomber to produce, likely becoming the foundation of the Deltarian Air Force alongside the new RiG-35 multirole fighter and R-35 and 37 air superiority fighters. The introduction of the first few RiG-35 production line jets is also a fact, with the first 10 jets now officially entering service. A total of 200 RiG-35 jets have been ordered by the Air Force, with all of them likely to be delivered within the next 5 years if everything goes on schedule.

The R-34 has now also officially been ordered, with around 100 on order currently and the first few expected to enter service within the year. With the reforms within the airforce, the selling of the iconic MiG-29 and its replacement the RiG-35 being introduced the Deltarian Air Force is entering a new phase in its existence. With these new jets, combined with the overhauled command and training structures, the air force hopes to remain one of the if not the top air force(s) in the world. If the order of R-34 and RiG-35 jets is complete Deltaria will likely posses the second largest airforce on the globe. Combined with the modern technology on board of the new jets the Deltarian Air Force will be ready for the next generation combat awaiting it.

Cachtice: Deltaria is one internationally famous band richer. The Chips, previously unknown to the wider public, are a rockband that have performed hundreds of songs in their local region of Dissuwa. Lead singer Csonka Csongor had been playing solo for 10 years till he found the people he would form The Chips with. Together they performed everywhere from small venues to medium sized parties, they did what they needed to do in order to get by. In the meantime they wrote their songs whenever they could, performing them mostly in private to family and friends but occasionally to small audiences. But last month everything changed. As their alter ego's the Chips released their first ever really publicly released song to the public called "Starfasing" expecting nothing more then a few thousand fews with the hopes of possibly gaining a few more jobs at venues. But this expectation was blown away when the song racked up 10 million views within the first 6 weeks, reaching an audience accross the globe. While 10 million might not sound as much, the Chips expected only a few thousand and, with their previous history in mind, this was more then they had ever dreamed of.

In the video The Chips travel the country, spreading their ideals and delivering "The Chip" to the people they go to. According to the comments on the video "the video is fantastic! It gives me an awesome vibe and just helps me through my anxiety like its nothing. Thanks Chips!". Thanks to the video several labels have reportedtly contacted the band, with the band members complaining about it on social media, "You play 10 years like literally your life depends on it and now, with just one song, they all want to sign a contract. Dont get me wrong, we love the fans, we just hate the industry!" The Chips have so far also refused to sign onto a label, stating that they want, "To keep our free minds free and allow us to do what we love for as long as we love to do it."

The song has however brought them the chance to play on the largest festival in Deltaria, FestiVista, as well as giving them a chance to perform in Hutori, their first ever out of country performance. Many watch with great anticipation on what The Chips will bring to the Deltarian music scene in the future.

ImageConsuls of Selucia depart after productive visit to Deltarian capital

Eshmunamash Medullinus and Numerius Flavonius Calogerus, the Consuls of Selucia, have returned to their country after a formal visit to the Deltarian capital of Čachtice in which they are reported to have had a number of productive discussions with key members of the Solidarity government. The aim of the visit was to strengthen the existing relationship between the two countries that has developed over recent decades through the institutions of the Majatran Economic Association and the Majatran Security Organisation.

Due to the existing ties between the two countries, Deltarian Foreign Minister Catalin Manescu reportedly told both Consuls early in their visit that they could "get straight down to matters of substance" that are often left until the climax of state visits. The significant shared politics between the two governments is thought to have made discussions easier, particularly in comparison to the previous Deltarian government.

Despite the goodwill, reports suggest that there were still some disagreements. Due to the location of Selucia at the frontier of the Majatran Sea, the country holds an important strategic position from a Deltarian perspective. For this reason it has been a long-term objective of numerous Deltarian governments to convince the Selucian administration to agree to some kind of deployment of Deltarian forces in the region. Like their predecessors though, the Consuls are said to have refused the offer outright.

In a major diplomatic win for the Selucian side however, the Deltarian government announced they would be supporting the country in the upcoming election to the Security Council. Although Deltaria is not formally campaigning in seat B, they have received some support from close allies. President el-Salam concluded earlier in the year that it would not be strategically beneficial to pursue the seat and will presumably have received some assurances from Selucia that they have shed any residual allegiance to the country's major rival Vascania.

ImageDeltarian President el-Salam offers clear ultimatum to Vascania
Image11 June 4865
Image

Less than a week after Vascanian new outlets reported that a plebiscite in Rapa Pile had delivered a result in favour of incorporation into the Vascanian Empire, the President of the Deltarian Federation Shani el-Salam has told the international community that her country "does not recognise the legitimacy of the result of the apparent referendum held in Rapa Pile and considers any attempt to enact its provisions an act of hostile aggression against the country".

Since the results of the election emerged, there have been several accussations of misconduct from the Pilese opposition. In a continuation of the intense exchanges between both countries in recent months, the President provided an unambiguous ultimatum that Deltaria would treat any Vascanian attempt to implement the results of the referendum as tantamount to the invasion of a sovereign country. In addition she made clear that such an attempt would be met with a direct response by the Deltarian government.

The latest developments mark a significant escalation in the diplomatic and political conflict between Deltaria and Vascania that has dominated international politics for the past several decades. At the moment it is not clear how other governments will respond to the situation. Vascania's decision to push ahead with a referendum- despite concerns being raised from various countries including Ntoto and Badara- has been immensely controversial. The government has defended their actions on the grounds that the country has no recent history of electoral irregularities.

From a Deltarian perspective the situation is further complicated by an imminent presidential election at the end of the year. Last month, incumbent President el-Salam was re-elected unopposed as Solidarity's presidential candidate. In December she will compete with the Union for Democracy candidate Eliška Přibylová in the first all-female presidential race in modern Deltarian history. At present the opposition has not commented on the situation in Rapa Pile though it is unlikely they would compromise with the Vascanian administration.

ImageDeltarian base in Medina enters operation amid regional tension
          Image28 June 4865

After several years of construction and preparation the planned Deltarian naval and air based located on the Medinese coast has official commenced operations. Although it has been completed for some time the base was originally intended to formally commence operations later this year but the government has reportedly decided to bring the date forward as tensions flare over Vascania's planned incorporation of Rapa Pile.

The base is located close to the Medinese town of Khuimore. Over the past three years since the initial work began on the project, the town has seen significant inward investment. In particular the Deltarian government allocated specific funds for improving the local infrastructure in order to handle the additional military traffic that will now pass through the town and local areas. Despite some concerns about how the local community would be affected, the early signs suggest that residents are cautiously optimistic about the development.

At a special opening ceremony yesterday, the President and the Defence Minister cut the ribbon on the new base. After some deliberation it has been formally named the Ján Zima Military Base, in honour of the esteemed Deltarian admiral. The new base will be available to a variety of Deltarian naval and air forces throughout the globe but will have a permanent assignment led by two Gorhskov-class frigates and including two Racek-class nuclear submarines.

Cachtice: The Union for Democracy, traditionally the main governing party of Deltaria, is now the smallest party in the Assembly, losing to both Solidarity and the newly created Farmers and Agrarian League. The two parties blew away UPD support in most parts of the country, notable its traditional strongholds of Alazinder and Doron Akigo, going for Solidarity and FAL this time respectfully. The new FAL, founded by conservative rural officials, has blown away UPD support in the rural parts of the country, taking with them large part of the rural and lower class conservative vote. This has left the UPD with only Darali as a main stronghold, preserving its middle-class voter base amongst the chaos. Furthermore, for the first time in 6 decades, the UPD candidate for the presidency did not make it to the second ballot, losing to the FAL candidate who eventually narrowly lost against incumbent solidarity president el-Salam. While Solidarity has won most seats in parliament it does not hold a majority. Instead observers believe president el-Salam might not propose a new cabinet, instead keeping the current minority cabinet in place. Since the president is the only one able to propose a cabinet this means that effectively Solidarity would keep their hold on the executive.

The defeat is striking. Once the center of Deltarian politics and power the UPD has now been reduced to the smallest party in the assembly and the once promising candidate Eliška Přibylová did not even get on the second ballot, losing dramatically against a new resurgent party. This dramatic loss, despite unexpected, has not resulted in a exodus of leadership as did the last election. Přibylová has stated that she will remain on as leader following discussions with senior leadership and the remaining party, despite angered by the result, seems to still support her. In a twisting move she has indicated that, with the situation in Vascania dramatically evolving, the UPD will support the solidarity minority government if the situation escalates wanting a, "united front" against the possible agression from Vascania. While its clear the UPD will have to find a way to appeal to its base once more the party has not fallen apart and stands firm with its leader Přibylová, ready to take on the challenges facing the nation for yet another term in oppossition.

El-Salam: the Deltarian Federation is at war with the Vascanian Empire
          5 January 4866

Čachtice, Darali: Deltarian President Shani el-Salam has spoken to the nation in an emergency television address to announce that Deltaria is officially at war with the Vascanian Empire following the country's failure to reverse their planned annexation of Rapa Pile. The dramatic announcement follows the expiry of a week long deadline that the President set for Vascania to cease their planned incorporation of the country into the Empire.

During her speech the President made clear that Deltaria would not permit the Vascanian action in Rapa Pile to go unchallenged. At the same time she urged caution across the nation as the government began taking the necessary steps to engage the Vascanian military machine. Despite growing tension for some time and a repeated threat from the Deltarian administration that they would not permit the Vascanian annexation to proceed, neither side is thought to have expected that conflict would actually result from the situation.

Complicating matters for the President is the loss of her legislative majority only a short number of weeks ago. Although she retained the presidency, el-Salam's party lost many seats in the Federal Assembly and will now rely on the support of opposition parties (or emergency measures) in order to enact her political programme. At this point it is not clear whether a new government will be formed at all, with the President cautious about including either of her conservative rivals in her administration.

In spite of the complications the early preparations for the liberation of Rapa Pile have already begun. The opening of Deltaria's Medinese base last year may prove crucial in these early stages when mobilisation is essential and having a reasonable contingent in the eastern hemisphere provides a significant advantage. Numerous factors may complicate the current situation though, not least the response of the international community. Even though some Deltarian allies have echoed the country's concerns about the Vascanian annexation, it isn't clear at this stage whether they will support the Deltarian action.
