Coalition Formed by KHP and CDP1 February 4972
Yesterday the cabinet proposal of third Karaağaç government was passed by the Assembly with votes of the Crimson Crescent Party and the Solidarity Party of Jakania. This unexpected partnership surprised many political commentators, and particularly supporters of the both parties. General election which was held in January was resulted in a hung parliament, granting no party a governing majority. Prime Minister Süleyman Karaağaç and Enise Tilki, CDP leader and as of today Deputy Prime Minister reached a deal which gives 6 ministries to CDP, 6 ministries to KHP.
Another agreement was ratifying the Jakania-Cildania Treaty of Cooperation and Friendship, but even with combined votes of both parties, it falls short of the needed two-thirds vote. Jakania Forward leader Yusuf Yildirim was adamant on opposing the treaty in the Assembly, calling it an attack on national sovereignty. United Peasant Party seems no different, and it will prove troublesome to the newly formed government. Nonetheless, it is reassuring to see parties from different political views to come together when the stability and prosperity of Jakania is concerned.
