Olayinka makes impassioned speech ahead of Equity Law and RiddenHealth Vote

Gov. Tariro Rutendo Olayinka visited a Rajutti neighborhood outside of Martwick. She met with community leaders ahead of her Equity Law and RiddenHealth program passing in the Diet. She shook hands and smiled in selfies with supporters. She also spoke in support for the bill to be solidified with an absolute, two-thirds majority requirement.

"As an Ibuthu, I too suffer from White supremacy. Past leaders enshrined this into our laws. They forced us into facilities and gave us inferior schools. I was taught in those schools. Some buildings were so bad that bricks would fall from the walls. The books they gave us were outdated. But, I dreamed of achieving better for myself and my people. I read those outdated books and worked as a servant in the "Whiteburgs" to buy new books to study. I studied hard and became a lawyer. I was proud to represent the Ibuthu youth in our racist court system.

One night when I was a teenager, I was watching TV with my little cousin. I was 15, and she was about 8. I watched the latest episode of "Sunny Shore High," a show about teenagers at an "average" High School. My cousin turned to me and asked, "Why does their school look so pretty?" I told her the honest truth, "They're all white." She asked me, "Do you think we will get schools like theirs someday?" I thought for a second and told her, "Yes, I promise you, we will. I'll make sure of it." I'm sure many of you have had the same conversation.

Today, I stand in front of you as the Governor of this beautiful duchy we call home. You should remember I stand in solidarity with you. Now that we can right these historical wrongs and bring a positive future. We are excited to pass this bill. While it's not perfect, it is as much as we can do under federal law. With each vote we make we pray for the day of full equality guaranteed by federal law. Until that day comes, we will be the guiding light for Luthori to follow."

Trades Union Congress votes for "new workers' party"

                    March 4982

ARMSTEAD, ORANGE — Delegates at the annual spring conference of the Trades Union Congress have voted to establish a "new workers' party". The motion, introduced by the National Union of Railwaymen, this year received the support of an overwhelming majority of those in attendance, having been repeatedly proposed previously but voted down by those unions willing to work within the Alliance.

With this no longer an option following the party's dissolution last year, even the Alliance-loyalist AUEETW - Alf Brewer's father's union before his own entry into politics seventy years ago - gave the proposal their full support. The former Alliance leader has not himself commented on the matter, but many of the younger 'Brewerites' both inside and outside the Diet have already declared for the new party.

Conversely, many of the radicals who had backed the motion in previous years voted against it this conference. "Anyone saying this is going to be a workers' party is either dishonest or a fool," said Mr Frank Havercroft of the Association of Radio and Electronic Officers, one of the motion's most earnest supporters at past conferences. "It will be run by the most reactionary unions, who have only now changed their position; it has the tacit support of Alf Brewer and the security services. In its aims it will be nothing more than a tool of the establishment."

"We are pleased to see that Congress has been won around to our position, and we will move forward in a spirit of unity that is focused on the future of the movement," said National Union of Railwaymen official Mr Joseph Atkinson.

The Hudsley Post

May 24, 4986
Fort William, Orange

At 11pm last night, Chair of the Solidarity.lu, John Connors was brought to Empress Elswith Medical Center from his loft apartment in Fort William. At 11:47 pm, he was declared dead at 55. He served as Chair of the party he founded for over 15 years. His passing comes at a height in his career, finally leading the party into a government coalition. As well as Solidarity's rise as a force in local governments. When the announcement of his death was posted on the homepage of solidarity.lu users from around the world mourned over his legacy in life and politics.

Conners' death is a mystery. So far, there are no suspects and no clear motive. Justice Minister Bill Martinez assured Solidarity supporters that he will start an investigation into the murder and pursue the culprits to the full extent of the law. "A great man died last night. He was forward-minded and always did his job with compassion. He didn't deserve to die. His killer will when he is caught, tried, and hung." For many in the party, this was not comforting, as they remain skeptical of the Royal National Police force. Despite the fact that the Minister of Justice is a member of Solidarity, there is a general skepticism towards law enforcement.

His roommate, Paul Boudon of Kanjor, 34, made a post on Solidarity.lu. In the post, he explained that he was the one to find Connors dead. Boudon came home after a long day of work to find him lying on the floor unresponsive. When he saw him, he shook his shoulder to wake him up, but he didn't. It was then that he called emergency services, who came and brought Connors to the hospital. As emergency services took him away, Boudon when to grab his car keys to follow the ambulance to the hospital. While searching the house for the key, he found a rock in the bathroom and a broken window. Tied to the rock was a note,

"We kill bonobos [an offensive term for homosexuals]. Just because you sit in the Diet and make speeches doesn't mean you're still not a bonobo."

This morning, Paul Boudon announced he will be leaving the country for his native Kanjor. In his message to the public, he stated that he no longer felt safe in Luthori and felt he needed to leave. He promised to give more details at a later time.

Solidarity.lu will be meeting later this week to make a contingency plan for both the party and the website Connors continued to run.

Lawrence Moore Found Murdered

Postby Tayes » Wed Aug 25, 2021 12:45 pm

LAWRENCE MOORE FOUND MURDERED IN HIS SECOND HOME

Long-standing MID, and de-facto leader of the MTP Populist faction, Lawrence Moore, has been found dead at his second home in the countryside of Middenriding. He was found by his wife, Addilyn in the late afternoon, having been shot once in the head, and once in the leg.

Police have issued a statement on the death, claiming that believe “it is most likely a political incident, rather than a domestic one.” They also claimed that they were “looking into a number of suspects, however nobody can be named at the present moment.”

Moore, 72, was the only original and founding member of the Monarchist Tory Party to still be a Member of the Imperial Diet. Despite slight political disagreements, he had been a firm friend of Joseph Brown since the 4940s, and it is reported that the two still spoke to each other weekly. He was known for being rather vocal, and for acting as a leader for the more populist or extreme members of the MTP. Over the course of his career, Moore served in several positions: most notably as the Minister for Health and Social Services under the Greenwood-Kimbrough Government.

Without a clear leader, or a formal faction group, it is unclear what will happen to the MTP Populist Faction. Remnants of the defections received after the breakup of Alliance will certainly continue the faction in some form, but many are unsure as to what extent this will happen.

The killing of Mr Moore follows a series of recent aggressive acts towards MIDs, with John Connors of Solidarity.lu having been killed several months ago. Whilst police are certain the attacks are unrelated, there appears to be a growing extreme frustration with MIDs and politicians in general.

                    With Arford gone, what next?

                    January 4990

FORT WILLIAM, ORANGE — With Empress Elswith's 18th birthday, Lord Arford has finally left office for the last time. In a statement released by the Imperial Household, the empress offered her "sincere gratitude" for his time as Lord Protector and Regent, creating the former prime minister Duke of Thwireford. His 35-year-long reign, then, is over. What next for Luthori?

The Empress has privately indicated in discussions with politicians that, unlike her regent, she will not seek to use the considerable powers granted to the Crown in recent decades; instead, she will reign purely as a national figurehead. It is unclear, however, if this will be enough to satisfy Luthori's republicans, outraged by the abuses perpetrated under Arford's regency: Simon Seabrook, prime minister until his coalition fell apart over the monarchy, whose Liberals are polling strongly ahead of the general election in May, will likely settle for nothing less than the abolition of the monarchy.

It is unlikely that this will meet with much support. Since the restoration thirty years ago, the monarchy's position has largely solidified; republicanism is perhaps the sentiment of less than a third of the population. Barring an extraordinary result, the republican parties simply will not have the numbers for it – and Luthori's diehard monarchists in the Diet will spare no effort to oppose them. It seems that acrimonious years are ahead for the country.

Geoffrey Shannon Dies

Geoffrey Shannon, the first ever Monarchist Tory Party Governor, has died at age 86. Shannon was taken to hospital late on the 16th March 4996, after suffering a cardiac arrest. He passed away early on the morning of the 17th.

Shannon was elected as the Governor of Shipleyriding in 4965. Her served until 4985, when he suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Margaret McVey of the LSP. Under his tenure, he mainly followed the lead of the central government, in line with the values of the party.

Geoffrey Shannon lived in Shipley his entire life, and once ran for leader of the party, with Cornelius Greenwood-Kimbrough eventually being elected. He retired from front-line politics after his defeat in 4985, however he remained a vocal voice in the party until his death.

Former leader, Joseph Brown, who has just turned 79, hailed Shannon as a “true hero of the Monarchist Tory Party”, and as someone who will be “truly missed”. Monarchist Tory MIDs shall all be wearing black in the Imperial Diet on the 18th March as a tribute to Shannon.

Greenwood-Kimbrough Resigns

Postby Tayes » Mon Sep 13, 2021 3:33 pm

Greenwood-Kimbrough Resigns

Cornelius Greenwood-Kimbriugh today announced his resignation as leader of the Monarchist Tory Party. He cited the election results as one of the main reasons for his resignation. He also claimed that he felt he had “taken the party as far as he could”, and that it was “time for a fresh face to take the reins.”

An emotional Greenwood-Kimbrough made his late announcement via a press conference at his house in Winworth. He refused to take any questions after his announcement, but later said that he was open to the press submitting questions to him in writing.

Greenwood-Kimbrough took over from Bartholomew Poole as leader of the MTP in March 4979. He served as the Prime Minister of Luthori between 4980 and 4985. Throughout his tenure as Prime Minister, he oversaw the most radical and necessary parts of the desegregation process, leading to him being seen at the time as a rather controversial figure. More recent polls however portray him in a rather positive light. He is the only Prime Minister in recent politics to successfully maintain a minority government, although he did receive some support from the Alliance Party, and later through defections and individual agreements.

Greenwood-Kimbrough did confirm that he will keep his seat in the Imperial Diet. The fifty-five year old also said that he was nowhere near thinking about retirement yet.

Greenwood-Kimbrough’s resignation also acts as a de-facto resignation for Andy Wahlberg as deputy leader.

Candidates have already started to declare their intention to run in the leadership election. The main candidates are:

Andy Wahlberg

Wahlberg has served under Greenwood-Kimbrough as his deputy since his election in 4979. He is the first and only person to ever hold the role, as it was created by Greenwood-Kimbrough. He is half-Dundorfian, and served as the Minister of Education and Culture under the Greenwood-Kimbrough cabinet between 4980-4985. He declined the Deputy Prime Minister role at the time, in deference to the long-serving party member, Elise Crawford. Wahlberg is seen as even more liberal than Greenwood-Kimbrough, largely due to his multicultural background.

Lucas Newman

Lucas Newman is the son of George Newman - one of the original Monarchist Tory Party members. When his Father retired from politics, he followed in his footsteps, and became the MTP Spokesperson for Finance. His Father, George, served under the Greenwood-Kimbrough I cabinet as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Lucas Newman has been compared to a modern day Joseph Brown.

Katie Oswaldtwistle

Oswaldtwistle is viewed as somewhat of an outsider in the leadership election. She is from a rather rural background, and has served as the Monarchist Tory Party spokesperson for Food and Rural Affairs for almost twenty years. She served as the Minister of this area under Greenwood-Kimbrough. She is a much more conservative voice than what has been seen as mainstream in the party in recent years.

Francis Shapps

Francis Shapps is the much younger cousin of Adam Shapps, who served between 4980 and 4985 as the Governor of Northriding. The Shapps family have remained largely under the radar in recent years, however Francis has quickly risen to prominence as a backbencher. He is just about the youngest person to be running for leader of the party, at 38 years old, as opposed to the 39 years held by Lucas Newman. He is seen as a more left-wing candidate, in relation to the centre of the party, and is not completely adverse to more socialist policies than many of his colleagues. He has said that he would bring the party into the “modern age”.

                    'Red Baronet' forms government

                    April 4997

                    Image
▲ Sir Eghard Adderley, 43rd Baronet with his wife

FORT WILLIAM, ORANGE — Stock markets plunged yesterday as Her Majesty The Empress met with Sir Eghard Adderley, 43rd Baronet to appoint him as prime minister at the head of a coalition of Socialists and Social Democrats, the first time in a hundred years that socialists have led a government in Luthori. Sir Eghard said that his government's programme would be to "pursue an industrial policy favourable to the workers, fight against undemocratic attempts to sell off our public services to the highest bidder, and reinstate the moral order that in recent years the Liberals have attempted to upturn."

He announced that he would be appointing SDP leader Oscar Hall as deputy prime minister, Steven Barnes of that same party as chancellor of the exchequer, Terry Eardington of his own party as foreign secretary, and himself as defence secretary in a rare example unseen in recent history of the prime minister simultaneously holding another cabinet-level position. His wife, Lady Audrey Adderley, will become Home Secretary with wide authority from policing to infrastructure and transport; in another shockingly naked example of nepotism, his personal secretary Oliva Fillongley has been tipped for the trade and industry post.

The new government's first moves will likely be to reserve to the Imperial Diet authority over healthcare, bringing it back into government control after the Liberal privatisation of it at the duchy level last year despite near-universal opposition from the other parties, defections over the matter to the splinter Forward! party, and polling showing that more than 85% of the electorate supported healthcare remaining in public hands.

Logan wins majority for Erneshire LSP

                    May 5000

ERNEBURROW, ERNESHIRE — The Luthorian Socialist Party swept the elections in Erneshire last night, emerging with 63 of the 101 seats in the regional diet and an absolute majority of the popular vote. This follows an energetic campaign by Erneshire LSP leader Liam Logan, which proudly embraced local identity in this long-distinct region, and on election night saw the party win landslides in the Alchester-Tresham industrial belt and rural coal mining areas while also running up the totals throughout the rest of the duchy.

In his election night victory speech Logan promised that he would “tirelessly fight for Erneshire”, even if that meant “standing up to the national government.” It is hard to see these remarks, however, as anything other than post-election posturing: while he ran on a moderate platform, having last year overseen a change in the regional party’s stated goals from being “a party of the working class” to “a party of the people”, he personally remains on the best of terms with the prime minister and national party apparatus.

Logan’s cabinet, presented to and voted for by the Erneshire diet as it convened this morning, will consist of John Collett as Minister for Finance, the Economy, and Labour; Alfred Leighton as Minister for Education, Youth, and the Family; Henry Rothwell as Minister for Infrastructure, Food, and Agriculture; and Richard Spraggins as Minister for Justice and the Interior. While Collett, Leighton, and Rothwell are long-standing members of the party, his pick for justice and interior minister is an outsider choice; Spraggins is a 34-year-old professor of law at the University of Alchester with no previously-known party or ideological affiliation.

    The new minister-president

4957: Born on the 30th of March at Tresham.
4958: Entered Eldene Grammar School in Tresham.
4975: Accepted to the University of Fort William, becoming involved with left-wing student groups.
4978: Graduated from the University of Fort William with a degree in history; joined civil service.
4984: Left the civil service to lecture at the University of Alchester.
4985: Selected as a candidate on the LSP’s majority bonus list for the Erneshire regional elections, with him missing out on election and the party on power by a mere 621 votes following recounts.
4990: Elected on the proportional list in the Erneshire regional elections that year, despite the LSP losing ground compared to their 4985 result.
4994: Appointed as the Erneshire LSP’s education spokesman after the courts lift the ban on the party.
4995: Elected as leader of the Erneshire LSP after leader Herbert Mason resigns following a disastrous result for the Socialists which sees them lose seven points from 4990, down almost ten points on their 4985 result.
4999: Oversees the Erneshire LSP’s adoption of the ‘5000 Programme’, changing its platform’s stated goals from being “a party of the working class” to “a party of the people.”

OPINION: Paglesham's legacy must be confronted

                    August 5004

FORT WILLIAM, ORANGE — "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Men who make history are almost always bad men," and Lord Thwireford, proving the truth of the saying, will go down in history as one of Luthori's most impactful statesmen. When he first entered politics in 4955, he was seen - at the time not incorrectly - as a reform-oriented, almost liberal nationalist who had emerged from a technocratic career in the security bureaucracy to revitalise the nation and defend Luthori's ancient democratic values from the National Movement's attacks. When he was dismissed by the empress in 4990 and granted the dukedom he had long desired, he was reviled the world over as the personification of narrow-minded bigotry, who had opportunistically cast aside his once allies to secure the support of the fascists he had come to power opposing, a tyrant who had used every anti-democratic means at hand to crush all opposition.

The government's plans to award Thwireford a state funeral have been met, much like the man, with revulsion. Many have already announced plans to protest, and the government will of course crack down on any such demonstrations to ensure that the man's misdeeds remain - at least in the public mind - not just overlooked but tacitly embraced. Even the government's sufferance of opposition in the press is part of a wider strategy to ensure that those opposed to it are seen not as legitimate participants in public debate, but as ivory-tower intellectuals isolated from the true views of the people. Thwireford himself, then, cannot be directly challenged, and especially not at his funeral.

But even Adderley and his stato-nostalgist government could not actively oppose and move against a vigil held separately and later for the disappeared student protesters whose mass graves have so recently been unearthed in Duringland. Through their memories, we can together strike a blow against the Pagleshamism they were murdered for opposing. And in sufficient numbers even the most reactionary papers will be unable to simply ignore it.
