Cachtice: President Ondřej Kříž has congratulated the Pontesian Republican Party on its victory in the Pontesian elections and congratulated Pontesi as a whole for their "committment to democracy." The situation in Pontesi was filled with tension as violence erupted ahead of the elections. President Kříž acknowledged that Deltaria was paying attention to the situation. Now, as elections have concluded, the president once again reiterates the importance of peace and stability in the region, "Deltaria and the wider Majatran Association are ready to help Pontesi through its volatile period, supporting it in whichever way it seeks support. We will keep a close eye on the situation and hope Pontesi is able and willing to join the rest of Majatra in our goal of stability and progress for all."

The president also looked ahead of the Deltarian election itself, announcing that he seeks to run for reelection to a second term and hopes his party and "the people" back him in this endeavour. He has already received word from party leadership that he will receive the nomination as no other candidate has announced him or herself. Meaning that Kříž will be seeking a second term against a yet to be determined FDS candidate. While Kříž enjoys a approval rating of 64% and is expected to win reelection, many note that the FDS its succes in protecting healthcare rigtht amongst other things has caused the FDS to be more a more popular party as a whole, making it once again a clash between the more popular FDS and the more popular individual of Ondřej Kříž.

Cachtice: The NARLAM reforms, seen by many as a purge and complete overhaul of the Armed Forces, is in full swing a year after it was adopted by parliament. The reforms completely changed Deltaria its military strategy, its organization and its approach to affairs. The first change that was implemented shortly after the reforms passing was the responsibilities and authorities of higher leadership, with military leadership being answerable to the President and the president generally holding more authority over the Armed Forces. The Chairman of the Joint Military Command Staff was also appointed, which in turn appointed the Chief of the army, navy and Airforce. After the new command structures were in place preparations began to abolish conscription and change the army structure from divisions to brigades. The transition was meant to be smooth, but due to the lack of experienced leadership it became somewhat chaotic, resulting in a 4 month delay. Just this week the adoption of the new brigade system was confirmed with a total of 225 brigades now having been organized. Every brigade consists of six batallions which all have a specific role, such as support, artillery, rifleman or armoured. This new layout for the army is meant to fascilitate quick deployment times, more clear communication between units and generally more effective administration. Most of the conscripts have also been send home at this point, with some 450.000 career soldiers remaining for the army. When it comes to the reorganizations for the navy and airforce these are also in full swing, with the Armed Forces Office for Budget Management currently making a assesment on all assets within these branches. The first new airgroups have also been established, with the amount of airbases being consolidated and a new military port in Balgrad under construction.

All these changes have already started the budgetary saving process that the administration has been seeking as well, by lowering the size of the military the Kříž administration seeks to lower costs and use military funds more effectively. Over 20 ships are scheduled to be decommissioned while the Ministry of Defense is preparing a major modernization and refit program for most ships in the fleet, allowing funds otherwise spend on maintaining a larger fleet to be used in modernizing the scaled down fleet that is currently being planned. All in all the reforms are in full swing and while a lot of the work is still to be done the military is slowly being rebuild under a new doctrine of speed, efficiency and reliability rather then size, power projection and major budgets. As it currently stands, the new training programs and full list of changes will be implemented within the next 5 years, ending at the end of the next governing period. President Kříž has already stated he is "sattisfied with the progress being made" and expects the military to quickly adapt itself in this new role and approach.

ZLOUTENE OKO

OPRAVIT RETOOLS AFTER ELECTION

Stefanesti, April 7, 5057: At Opravit Headquarters in Stefanesti more or less at the Samuel Marena University campus, the Federalni Demokraticka Strana – Opravit leadership met to assess the damage after the April 5057 elections.

ZLOUTENE OKO asked the current Opravit chair what he thought. Misalko replied:

The question was whether to remain a narrow more or less pure voice for personal freedom and individual rights or whether to try to broaden our somewhat limited appeal to voters by adopting positions likely to appeal to other constituencies that are currently unlikely to vote for us. We discussed this seriously after the not unexpected disappointing election results.

Personally, I would rather remain a pure unsullied voice. But this view did not prevail. Anezka Vanickova will be replacing me as caucus chair to take us in a new direction. Those of us wishing to remain narrowly focused recognize our failure and will support our new chair without reservation.

Cachtice: President Kříž has been reelected in a clear election that saw him capture more votes and a larger share of the vote then his first election. With over 55% of the vote the president was reelected against his far less popular rival. Even the RLS, previously not holding a majority, now won a majority of seats which would have given the President a majority to rule with. But in a suprising twist of events President Kříž announced shortly after his election he would be leaving the RLS and forming his own party, called the Center Democratic Formation, with which he intended to build a new "social liberal and common sense centrist voice for our country." Shortly after the announcement 165 representatives from the Federal Assembly announced they would switch to the new party from the president, splitting the RLS in half. This move, though suprising to some, was expected by analysts who had seen the president repeatedly clash with his own party. The president was in the beginning willing to compromise, proposing some conservative proposals. As time progressed it became harder for him to stomach the requests made by the party as he himself was a true centrist and social liberal. Now he decided it was time to act and form his own party which is thus in one swoop the largest party in the Assembly.

This also marks the presumed end to the two party system, which was organically formed as the FPTP system of election made it near impossible for other parties to form. But this new development causes political commentators to believe voters being more comfortable with voting for other parties, possibly meaning that despite the FPTP system of election more parties might appear with seats in elections. Its a change for Deltaria but one thats welcomed by many, as it might mean more consensus in decisionmaking and more cooperation in politics. The new party is currently in its infancy but the President stated he will "actively work through my presidency to make the party a succes." On the question whether or not the President would seek reelection for his new party he answered, "it is to early to make such a decision."

ZLOUTENE OKO

OPRAVIT CAUCUS BECOMES PARTY

Stefanesti, September 18, 5058: The leadership of the Opravit Caucus of Federalni Demokraticka Strana (FDS) met at its headquarters near Samuel Marena University in Stefanesti and apparently made some organizational changes in the wake of repeal of legislation regulating the two party system. ZLOUTENE OKO asked Anezka Vanickova, Opravit Chair, what was afoot and she responded:

With the dissolution of the Progress Caucus of FDS, we decided to function as a party rather than a caucus of a party. Nikolas Ptacek has replaced me as Party Leader and will be our presidential candidate. I will remain Party Floor Leader in the Federalni Partlement and my Assistant Floor Leader will be Vladan Krecji. The new name which we feel is more descriptive of our thinking is Demokraticky Opravarensky Zvaz (DOZ).

Asked by ZLOUTENE OKO if DOZ would be an opposition party to President Kriz, Vanickova replied:

We recognize that the Kriz Administration has initiated reforms of the military that may take the military out of politics at least for a while. That is certainly a good thing. But we represent a view of the future that likely is different from his view or his party’s view and is certainly different from the view of the RLS now.

ZLOUTENE OKO asked if that meant DOZ would not joining in a coalition with RLS or Kriz’s party to which she answered.

We believe Kriz’s SDF and the RLS will likely maintain their relation as a ruling coalition. This does not mean we would never consider working with either; should this unlikely occasion arise we are certainly willing to talk to either about under what terms we would agree to form a coalition.

DOZ SELECTING ELECTION CANDIDATES

Stefanesti, August 18, 5059: At a meeting of the leadership of Demokraticky Opravarensky Zvaz (DOZ) at its Party Headquarters just outside of Samuel Marena University in Stefanesti, the primary topics were the 5061 election and some issues to be raised with the government. Party Chair Nikolas Ptacek explained to ZLOUTENE OKO:

We in the DOZ certainly support the effort of President Kriz to reform the military so it does not have the compulsive urge to throw out the government every few years. Our support on this issue does not mean we should not raise policy questions. And an issue we agree needs to be raised is whether we should stay in our two communist organization treaties. Raised again is more accurate. We have tried to raise this issue without success.

Along the same line we think we should discuss seriously where our foreign policy should be headed.

Our other topic at our meeting was selection of a presidential candidate. In all honesty we were a minority caucus in a minority party and now are the smallest of three parties so we are aware the selection may be less important than in RLS or SDF. What we have done is determine the process which will be a vote by our current delegation in the Federalni Parlement.

Also, I am the default candidate as the Party Chair. But three ideas are floating around. First, rotate the candidates between original Opravit leadership, and NVS, POK and Zima Pact former officials. So far the Opravit and POK leaders would have had a shot while the Zima Pact people believe Communist ties might be fatal. That would leave NVS. Magdalena Kovarova and I are both former NVS Finance Ministers.

Another idea is select someone with a view to winning. This idea has not in point of fact gotten much traction.

Third our prospects of improving our position look fairly good. Aneska Vanickova has led our legislative effort during this period and so many feel she should be the nominee. She has not shown much interest preferring to focus on legislation.

Again I am the default candidate and the legislative delegation will make the decision.

Cachtice: President Ondřej Kříž has, in a televized speech, announced that he shall not be seeking a third term as President of the Federation in the upcoming election next year. The decision was made in this last year according to the president, largely fueled by his believe that new faces are always good for government and that most of his main goals, that being military reform, economic reform and social reform had been achieved. In his full statement the president stated:

My fellow Deltarians. 7 years ago i started this journey with all of you at a critical time. Our nation was in dire shape and our faith broken. But in these last few years i have seen the true spirit of the Deltarian people. A spirit of hope, perserverance and strength. Together we have been rebuilding our nation, we have passed legislation for the betterment of the country and we have unshackled ourselves from the demons of our past. And despite these successes, i stand before you humbly, knowing that he time of going and stepping aside for a leader should rather be to soon then to late. Next year i will have served this beautifull federation for 8 full years, 8 years of stability, resurgence and a improvement of our daily lives. I believe by trying to gain your trust for a third consecutive time i would be overstaying in this amazing office, i would break my pledge to serve my country to the best of my ability as most of my initial goals have been accomplished. I have worked in the last 4 years to build a new movement, a new party, and would like to give them the room to present new talent for the office of President. 8 years is a long time, and im proud to have served for so long and be the person to guide our nation through recovery. Now i shall be the person to give it room for new talent and vision. I will not be seeking reelection next year.

The announcement came as a suprise, with his relative young age of 56 many had expected the President to possibly vie for a third term. But as he noted, he believes he has had his time and would not be of more value to the nation then he has already been. One thing is for sure, while no term limits are in place, this move is likely to set a precedent for future presidents to look upon.

Cachtice: Deltaria has elected its first female HOS in decades with the election of SDF candidate Lenka Žižková to the position of President of the Federation. Žižková ran a campaign revolving around continuing the recovery path set in motion by president Kriz while putting a greater focus on the wellbeing of citizens rather then economic numbers. Furthermore she promised to come up with a comprehensive plan to make Deltaria recover even better, focussing around further regional cooperation and investing in things like renewable energy and modern technology. Žižková was also endorsed by former President Kriz, who decided not to run for a third term hoping to bring new talent to the position and stating it would be "healthy for our democracy" to have a new president. He was frequently with Žižková on the campaign trail and stated his party did well in selecting here. She is once again a young president, at just 38 years old. She was selected by the party leadership, who looked for young talent in the party and found it in Žižková who was mayor of Naban at the time. She has thus now been elected president with a overwhelming 56% of the vote, making her the first president to win over 55% of the vote. Ofcourse her being a female is also refreshing, with Deltaria not having had a female leader in decades.

In her inaugural speech President Žižková made a dearing promise, within her speech she announced the "points plan" or "five points plan" which will be the guiding factor in her presidency. The plan includes 5 guiding principles which are:
1. People Driven Economy
Which means that the government will give private enterprise the room to grow and innovate while enacting common sense regulations to ensure a healthy workspace. It will be up to the people to drive, while the government will serve as the engine that powers the drive.

2. Cooperative Diplomacy
The president stated that, "For Deltaria to have a future, Majatra needs a future, Terra needs a future. We should work together to achieve our goals." pledging to continue the constructive diplomacy of her predecessor and focus more on cooperation then on enforcing Deltaria's ideals on others.

3. Strength at home, peace abroad
Tying in further to diplomacy and security policy the President stated that Deltaria will continue to fine tune the military reforms passed in recent years and keep its Armed Forces strong to protect Deltaria and Majatra but that it will not be used in a offensive manner on her watch, stating that "peace and diplomacy must be the way forward."

4. Substainable Future for All
This mainly applies to energy, with the President wanting to invest and stimulate greener energy sources. But besides energy it also applies to good pensions for the elderly and enough funds for welfare programs to substain current and future generations.

5. Long term planning
The last point of President Žižková is long term planning, something her administration seeks to do more by "taking a look at a lot of factors in society and seeking to create long term strategies to tackle problems." For example she seeks to create comprehensive strategies on taking on organized crime and bringing the unemployed back to work.

All in all the President thus looks for a combination of old and new policies. Former president Kriz has for sure created a vibrant party that has succesfully stayed the biggest and delivered a new president.

The presidential election result. Žižková did particularly well in big cities, while her rival Nikolas Ptacek did well in suburbs and the countryside

Darali: The Daralian State Governor Alan Michálek has opened the new State Highway Network in his state after nearly 9 years of continious construction. The construction of the network was initiated by the state government after its election thanks in large parts to federal funding plans for local programs. The new network, consisting of more then 300 km of new roads and primarily highways, has now officially replaced the old system of small to medium sized roads Darali was primarily known for. Car travel was mostly reserved for a select few in Darali, as most people used public transport such as the state railway network. Governor Michálek however proposed the new SHN in the Daralian Congress, with it passing unanimously once voted upon. It would use billions in federal funding and billions more in state funding to realize this ambitious program, with the hopes of making car travel more accesible to people in the region and connecting the roads to other regions and states, primarily Ushalande and Alazinder, two states where car travel has always been more prevelant. The new network is also expected to boost economic output as freight can now easier travel by road alongside the already in use methods of rail and river travel. It will also boost economic output by thus making car travel faster and making it more accessible, allowing people to go to their preffered location easier and allow for more work related acitvity and connectivity between cities.

Governor Michálek opened the new State Highway Network with great jubilation, with the entire project having costed 24 billion. Michálek has been praised by economists for his pro bussiness, no bureaucratic policies and voters seem to be happy to, with the Governor reelected to a third term with 64% of the vote just days ago. The new highway network will be opened in steps, with the first section between Cachtice and Hradnice now opened and all sections opened by the end of the year.

Cachtice: The Armed Forces of Deltaria have finalized two major training exercises that signal its change in strategy and its plans for the future. The exercises, named Ochranný štít (Guarding Shield) and Orlí úder (Eagle Strike) are two distinct training exercises that train two different approaches for the military to adhere to. The first exercise, Guarding Shield, was conducted over the course of a full week shortly after President Žižková was elected. The exercise primarily focussed around ground and aerial combat, with ground forces tasked with protecting Deltaria from a full blown invasion. It showed the renewed confidence the military has in its forces. Despite the overall downsizing of the military and changes to a brigade structure ground forces proved to be effective, aided by a efficient command structure and the military district commanders able to adequately respond to imminent threats. The airforce was primarily in a support role, focussing on quick strikes against enemy forces primarily when they first landed and taking out enemy air capability, first through a amphibious invasion that had to be repelled, focussing on targetting enemy carriers, and then through a possible land invasion from one of Deltaria's neighbours. Weak spots were also identified, primarily confusion for officers about the new command hierarchy and small problems in the supply chain, that are now identified and thus fixable. The navy also participated, training primarily to shut off the Majatran sea or defend it in case of intrusion.

The second exercise revolved around the use of Deltarian naval power primarily. Deltaria has shifted away from planning for major conflicts, instead focussing on rapid deployment of forces abroad. This was shown in the second exercise, Eagle Strike, where Deltarian amphibious assault ships combined with air cover from its carrier, trained for rapid deployments and strikes against enemy targets. The battle groups would move to a target location before a combination of naval sea to ground missiles and air cover/strikes from the Nemec carrier pummeled enemy locations, primarily communication and supply lines and also command posts, attempting to disrupt enemy operations. Afterwards, a combination of landing craft and helicopters would depart from the amphibious assault ships, carrying a variety of medium equipment such as armoured vehicles and infantry such as marines. Some special forces would be dropped between lines to further disrupt the enemy. This was the first true test of the new rapid deployment strategy of the Armed Forces and proved to be a success. Some small errors are to be incorporated into the training program, such as the special forces likely to be deployed before missile strikes, in a attempt to create further confusion in enemy lines. Tactical insertions will also be part of the next edition of Eagle Strike, in a attempt to create a wide array of deployment options for offensive capabilities of the Armed Forces.

These two exercises, focussing on the two pillars of the new Deltarian military strategy (home defense and rapid strikes) will be a annual endeavour after the President authorized a presidential executive order that mandates the military to hold Eagle Strike and Guardian Shield every year, keeping up the military its capabilities and further training the military to use both strategies in a possible conflict.
