Renovation of Major Motorways Started
3 December 5158

In accordance with the ratified Trans-Majatran Corridors Network treaty, renovation and integration projects of major motorways have started. Supervised by Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the work is handled by General Directorate of Highways (Karayolları Genel Müdürlüğü, KGM) and private contractors, but after the Public Highway Act passes the Assembly, the national highway system will be maintained solely by the KGM. Main work is carried out on Ganşehir-İmir and Dokuz-Mehmediye motorways, while Mesul-Dokuz and İmir-Diyarıvakan motorways will require relatively less work for integration. Separately, work also has started on Demirağ Line by State Railways of the Republic of Jakania. All projects are estimated to be completed by late 5160.

Dokuz Summit Ends With Visa Exemption Treaty
27 December 5160

Minister of Foreign Affairs Alpay Bölükbaşı announced that a cooperation and visa exemption treaty deal was reached with Deltaria. Two countries pledge to allow their nationals with valid passports to visit the other country and stay for a period not exceeding 90 days without a visa. In addition to the treaty, a deal was reached to revamp the motorway from Tsargrad to Ganşehir as part of the Trans-Majatran Corridors Network. Prime Minister Orhan Kazak and Deltarian Prime Minister Patrik Siroky shook hands and expressed their commitment to peace and cooperation between two countries.

Altogether the summit was hailed as a success, and also as Mr Kazak's parting gift too, as the 74-years old veteran politician prepares to retire from politics. A successor is yet to be named, but the most popular one among the contenders is Bukayar Deputy Tevfik Usturacı. Mr Kazak led the Crimson Crescent Party to gain back its former glory which was lost under Yüce and Kalkan leaderships. Nearly 22 years after he was elected as the chairman of the party, Orhan Kazak remains very popular with the KHP supporters. New leader will be expected to follow in his footsteps.

Prime Minister Turgut Atalar's opening remarks were these: We are back. Speaking at the Assembly of the Republic after the voting and subsequent enactment of the reform package, Mr Atalar emphasised that his government will continue to work tirelessly to serve Jakanian nation.

"With great pleasure, I can declare that the period of instability which devastated Jakania is over. We will regain the lost prestige, revitalise the economy and firmly ensure the implementation of our secular and republican principles. Your trust is well placed. Indeed, we are back."

According to the government officials, new projects to increase employment and incentives for the oil and gas industry are the top priority. Atalar government is also expected to contact with foreign dignitaries in the upcoming days.

8 August 5305

The legislation that allocates 10,000,000,000 JAK from the National Treasury to the two big oil companies, Southern Petroleum Corporation and Ganşehir Oil and Gas, has passed the Assembly this afternoon. The incentive is expected to be used for modernising and renovating pipelines and processing facilities. Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Cem Koray also announced that initiatives for finding new export opportunities will be the top priority of Atalar government.

"It is our intention to revitalise the forgotten oil industry first and foremost. We will seek new deals with fellow Majatran countries to utilise this natural resource for the benefit of both Jakania and Majatra."

Work on a new legislation to allow the police to run investigations concerning illegal activities conducted by using internet is also underway. Illegal gambling, cyberterrorism, internet fraud and intellectual property theft are the main reasons stated by the government. Major Constitutional Amendments Are on the Way
21 December 5310

Following the uncontested early election of 5310, Perseverance Party (SEBAT) prepares to present new constitutional amendments to the Assembly of the Republic. Amendments are expected to be approved next year by the parliament in which SEBAT holds all six-hundred seats.

With the implementation of the legislation, president will be elected by the Assembly rather than popular vote for a seven-year term of office. Turjak will be designated as the sole offical language of the country, while Kalopian and Majatran will be recognised as minority languages. Prime Minister Turgut Atalar described the new language legislation as "a move from de facto to de jure".

"The language that unites Jakanian people is beyond a doubt Turjak, and it will be recognised as such. We will continue to cherish our languages, official or not, while reinforcing the fraternity of our nation."

The first election of the president by the Assembly will take place following the 5314 general election, when the term of incumbent President Arzu Gökçe ends. The move from direct to indirect election will curtail the already limited authority of the presidency, but at the same time consolidate impartiality of the office.

Government Pushes Forward With Controversial Act
14 August 5315

Renewing its mandate with the uncontested 5314 elections, Perseverance Party (SEBAT) prepares to push forward with the controversial Official Language and Minority Languages Act. This morning, a directive that orders removal of Majatran and Kalopian nameplates from public buildings was reportedly issued to government agencies. Transition period for schools to implement Official Language and Minority Languages Act will also be over next week. Compared to previous legislation that required schools to teach in at least two languages, namely Turjak, Kalopian or Majatran; new legislation obligates schools to teach in only Turjak, while the teaching of other languages are subject to Ministry of Education and Culture's discretion.

Kalopian and Majatran minority communities are rightfully furious. One of the leading figures of Majatran community, Mus'ab el-Pirani, called for protests in urban centers. Meanwhile, 4 cabinet members of Kalopian and Majatran descent, namely Abdulhakim el-Momin, Farah el-Farid, Tilemachos Anthiadis and Aikaterini Marinide are expected to hold a joint press conference endorsing the aforementioned legislation. Despite all the opposition, SEBAT seems defiant.
