Fine Choiarlabhan Sweep Elections

October 5499

Fine Choiarlabhan (Family of Kirlawans) has won a majority in the Dáil as well as securing the role of Uachtarán (President). The party was only formed two years ago but draws upon a history of pragmatic centre-right parties that are socially and economically liberal.

The last session of the Dáil saw two new parties formed including FC, although the second party disbanded before the latest elections. FC won pluralities in all three regions including absolute majorities in Merkan and Nuchtmark, which was enough to give it an absolute majority in the Dail with 70 out of 133 seats.

FC was the largest party in each region.

Despite having a majority the FC leadership has promised to form an absolute majority with the right-wing Independents Party, which would give the new government a two-thirds majority in the Dail. FC have detailed initial legislation will focus on economic and tax reforms along with an increased role for Kirlawa in international politics, specifically assistance for refugees and foreign aid.

Kirlawa goes right - new government formed

December 5499

After two months of negotiations and just in time for the new century Kirlawa has a new right-wing government. Although it is not yet known what policies the government will collectively push, it is known that Fine Choiarlabhan will take eight cabinet positions, including the head of government role, foreign affairs and several economic focused portfolios while An Pairtí Neamhspléach will take five positions including Defence, Internal Affairs and Education.

The two parties hold differing opinions on social and foreign policy, but as Fine Choiarlabhan hold an absolute majority in the Dail it is likely they will steer the government on a centrist path.

Bishopal Church seeks new opportunities

December 5499

The Bishopal Church of Kirlawa has been presented with an opportunity to assist government for the first time in generations. The governing Fine Choiarlabhan have made no secret of the fact that a number of their leadership figures, particularly in Nuchtmark and Merkan are practicing Bishopalists. Although the Church only accounts for around 7% of the population, it has often wielded increased influence in political circles due to its historic association with larger farmers and business leaders.

Although Fine Choiarlabhan has committed to the official secularism of the state, it is possible they will propose policies that will favour Hosian communities. Their coalition partners are explicitly socially conservative.
