Acadēmia Selūciāna Created to Rgulate, Promote Selucian Language
Image
ARGŌNA – At the direction of the national government, Education and Culture Minister Mānius Cornēlius Arvīnius has initiated the creation of the Acadēmia Selūciāna (“Selucian Academy”), a scholarly literary and linguistic association that shall serve as the official authority on the Selucian language. In addition to awarding literary prizes for works in Selucian, the Academy will formalize two official forms of the language: Lingua Selūciana Sacra (“Sacred Selucian”), the standard used for religious affairs based on the older, classical form of Selucian; and Lingua Selūciana Cīvīlis (“Civil Selucian”) a standard for the purposes of government and other formal communication, based on a more modern (but still distinct from the common dialects) pronunciation of the language, with mostly the same spelling and grammar as the Lingua Sacra.

New Law Grants Citizenship to Selūcic Immigrants
Image
AURŌRIA – According to a new law, individuals from any Selūcic country (Istalia, Rildanor, Egelion etc.) are eligible for Selūcian citizenship if they join the Religiō Selūciāna and pass a standard background check. Those who do not join the Religiō may become Selūcian citizens after residing legally in Selūcia for a period of 30 months (2.5 years).
Interior minister Aula Caecilia Cretica spoke upon the passage of the law, stating that it was part of the FNS government’s belief in Selūcia’s “historic responsibility” toward the peoples of Selūcia’s former global empire, and its desire to further unity among Selūcic states.

Tenāx Visits Canrille and Lourenne; Promotes Exchange Program
Iūlius 5334
Selūcian Cōnsul Opīter Vellēius Tenāx has embarked on an extended diplomatic tour of several Canrillaise-speaking states as part of the Government’s effort to forge closer ties with former Selūcian colonies. The Cōnsul first visited cities in Alduria, Kanjor and Rildanor, where he gave speeches emphasizing the cultural unity of the Selucic world and in particular Canrillaise unity (at one point somewhat provocatively appearing in front of the flag of the former Canrillaise Union), spoke with citizens in the streets and visited cultural institutions and small communities of practitioners of the Religiō Selūciana. To each country, he brought with him gifts and cultural artifacts from the island of Aquilōnia, the historic homeland of the Canrillais people in Selucia. Finally he stopped in Eroncourt in Lourenne to seek a meeting with High Chancellor Karl Cesaire to discuss matters of Selucic cooperation in general and educational-cultural exchanges specifically.

Tenāx’s proposed plan would provide opportunities for students of history, language and culture enrolled at universities in Lourenne and other historically Selucic states to spend a semester or year at a Selūcian university to deepen their study of classics, ancient history, Selūcian language and other related fields. In return, similar programs would be offered by universities across the Selucic world. Tenāx stated that he hoped such a program would help create a “transnational Selucic cultural-academic network” that would foster more cooperation between academics in all involved countries and enrich them culturally. The Cōnsul said that, if successful, this program could lead to more extensive efforts of trans-Selucic cooperation in the future.

Popular revolt in Florentia starts pressuring the government
December 5371
Image

Reports have been brought to the nation of a couple of popular revolts in Florentia the last month, supposedly organised by a social movement the people have referred to as "Aliī Populī" (Other People), led — as far as we know — by Agrippa Trebellius Simo. According to some of the officials attacked by this group recently, they asked for the collapse of the Comitium and the status quo, adopting a new Republican government that benefits the people and is not ruled by greedy and corrupt tyrants again. So far they have only been active in Florentia, but the government hasn't been able to stop them yet and does not seem to be taking them as a serious threat.

The nation has been in a state of decay for decades, and the people are starting to look towards change and improvement. Whether perhaps it's a search for a return of glory, or to seek peace and stability, or progress and democracy, the people have it clear: they are willing to achieve it by any means necessary. Every report includes a bigger number of people participating in the revolts and less support for the status quo. Only time will tell how this situation is dealt with, and what end it will have.

The election of new populist factions mark the end of the current regime
May 5376

With the Aliī Populī winning elections, with 177 seats, and the Ventus īnsulārum with 174 seats, the two new factions work together to bring the end of the current regime in Selucia. However, there are some minor disagreements, with the Aliī Populī believing it shall be done immediately, whereas the Ventus īnsulārum prefers doing it gradually. They arrived to an agreement and decided to rename the Comitium to Comitia Cōnstitūtiōnis (Constituent Assembly), reduce the legislative term from 6 years to 3, and increase the seats from 100 to 351. A constitution will be drafted soon and a referendum will be held for the Selucian people to vote for or against it. Imperātrīx Lūcia Cassia Aquilīna has not made any public announcements since the revolts of the last years, nor proposed a cabinet for the new factions yet. Currently, both factions are negotiating the positions they could assume in the government.

The Republic is officially restored after decades of revolution and reform
August 5393
Image

The so-called movement Aliī Populī had started a series of revolts in the 5370s against a government that had long ceased to be an actual Republic, which paired with the decadence of such new status quo caused a reaction in the common people of Selucia, especially in Florentia, resulting in the seize of power by the Aliī Populī in 5376 that would slowly pave the way to the old Republican system, with the hopes of this time improving the quality of life of the common people. This has been done officially now, in 5393, by removing the Imperatrix Lūcia Cassia Aquilīna and replacing the role of the Imperatrix by a Cōnsul and a Prōconsul, elected every 3 years. This system, dead since the early 52nd century, is returned with Agrippa Trebellius Simo becoming the first elected Cōnsul and Aulus Papirius Frugius the Prōconsul.

The previous elite has been stripped off its powers and the Senate has been increased to 501 seats. The new system has been well received by the people hitherto, however the future for the Aliī Populī is unknown, since the movement has ceased to have any purpose now: the Senate is not divided in any faction and it'll be difficult to make big changes for now. However, there are hopes for a serious reform and the appearance of new factions in the Senate able to distinguish the different Senators from each other, especially when this new system is going to need help to keep itself.
