HDP begins agricultural reforms
January 19 5431

In wake of their election, the Páirtí Daonlathach Hosian has begun their planned agricultural reforms. At the core of the reforms is the provision of significant subsidies to the farming and fishing industries. Financial support has been allocated for the acquisition of modern equipment, fertilizers, seeds and personnel, with the objective of enhancing productivity and ensuring food security. The HDP claims that the farming community has been burdened by outdated tools and escalating costs, causing them to focus on their plan of mass mechanisation. Over 480 billion KDI has been dedicated to farming alone, the majority of which has been provisioned for supplementing private farms, along with the establishment of state ones.

As part of the reforms the HDP has commenced the establishment of state farms, primarily focusing on the production of essential commodities such as chicken, eggs, wheat, corn, and beef. This is in order to ensure a consistent and stable supply of foodstuffs while preventing monopolisation of the food industry. The state farms also provide a point of competition, forcing the market to innovate and improve in order to beat the low-cost, non-profit model of the state farms. Economists have theorised that the HDP would be able to use the existence of state farms in order to direct the market how they see fit.

In addition to reforms on land, the HDP had begun to subsidise the fishing industry, starting with the provision of significant subsidies aimed at the acquisition of modern fishing equipment. The HDP claims that the fishing sector is also lacking and underdeveloped, and that the acquisition of modern equipment would be a massive boon for the nation's economy. The plan has not gone without controversy however, with the HDP's reduction of fish net gaps causing controversy as younger fish now risk being caught in major hauls. The plan also receives controversy on land as the HDP loosens regulation, risking ecological damage.

Taoiseach Ó Cuana orders the establishment of the Phríomh-Oifig Staidrimh
July 1st 5431

Earlier this morning, Taoiseach Pádraig Ó Cuana ordered the creation of the Phríomh-Oifig Staidrimh, also known as the Central Statistics Office, as an independent government agency. "The Phríomh-Oifig Staidrimh", the Taoiseach attests, "exists to allow the state to gain a proper insight into the people it guides. The agency will serve as the sole impartial gatherer of details related to the economic, social and general activities and conditions in Kirlawa." The Taoiseach later clarified that the information gathered by the Phríomh-Oifig Staidrimh would be free use by anyone provided that they cited the agency.

Minister MacClellan increases subsidies to the fishing industry
February 2nd 5432

Minister for Food and Agriculture Garbhán MacClellan has, in line with his agricultural growth plan, announced that a 120 billion KDI increase to subsidies in the fishing sector would be taking place. The subsidies will be used for the purchase of equipment and the hiring of manpower, allowing the Kirlawan ability to produce food to grow further. In his announcement Minister MacClellan stated that he intends to expand the plan further into every field of agriculture, with his end goal being a national surplus of food so that the nation can store and export any leftovers it has.

The increase has not been without controversy however, as the minister has not indicated what measures he will take against overfishing, and how he intends to prevent habitat damage from the massive uptick in the presence of seafaring vessels. Further controversy arises from the potential for increased pollution from increased boat presence. Minister MacClellan has yet to state his solutions to these controversies, and has declined an interview at this time.

Taoiseach pushes for establishment of the Gníomhaireacht Náisiúnta Póilíní
January 2nd 5433

"A nation cannot stand when criminals roam freely, all acting like they are both their own empire and emperor." Taoiseach Pádraig Ó Cuana addressed the Dáil in a fiery speech earlier, calling for "an end to rampant, crime, corruption and general disregard for the law", and advocating for a new national law enforcement agency to handle these duties. The Gníomhaireacht Náisiúnta Póilíní, or GNP for short, is the proposed five department agency that the Taoiseach intends to end the national issue surrounding crime. Minister for Justice, Gearóid Mooney, has developed the five departments such that they will cover every potential crime, and has planned units for the departments that can handle specific types of cases. "The Roads Policing Department" Mooney states, "would act as first responders to incidents nationwide, along with the general management of traffic accidents and transport of detainees. They would certainly be working hand in hand with the Technical and Standard Crime Department, whom are responsible for the investigation of all non-serious crimes, along with the handling of the services' technical aspects."

Despite the lack of organised crime nationwide, the government is taking no chances with the Organised and Serious Crime Department being proposed as part of the service. The Organised and Serious Crime Department shares one of it's units, Special Operations Command, with the Special Crime and Security Department, responsible for the countering of terrorism and espionage. Neither Ó Cuana or Mooney spoke much further in depth about these departments, likely due to the sensitive nature of their work. They did however speak about the final department, the Corruption Department, which as the name implies is responsible for handling corruption withing the service. The bill proposing the agency has been to the Dáil, and is currently being negotiated over in order to maximise the speed of it's passing. The Taoiseach has stated his intention to implement the agency as fast as possible, and to end the "wave of crime and degeneracy".

Kirlawan State Mining Corporation established
January 5th 5433

As part of it's plans for economic development, the HDP has announced the creation of Kirlawan State Mining Corporation as a government owned entity. KSMC has been granted rights to large swaths of land, all of which contain access to the nation's gold, sulphur and coal deposits. Minister for Trade and Industry, Labhrás McGuire, has stated that the creation has been going on behind the scenes for a long time now, starting back in April of 5432, but that the government waited for the first facility, an open pit sulphur mine located just sixteen kilometres south of Éagsúila, to be completed. Creating five thousand jobs, the mine has been hailed as an important stepping stone for the extraction industry as the government begins to authorise private mines to be created. The developments are not without criticism however, as KSNC's CEO, Barra Ó Donndubháin, has a notorious record for anti-union rhetoric and near brutal expectations of workers.

Crime rates expected to plumet as GNP begins crackdowns
February 15 5434

The newly established Gníomhaireacht Náisiúnta Póilíní has begun nationwide crackdowns on crime. The crackdowns, having been ordered by the Minister of Justice himself, have begun with tackling organised and serious crimes, and are slowly moving their way down towards more minor crimes. Being an efficient far cry from the old localised system, the GNP has effectively coordinated movements across provinces with minimal failure. Organised crimes groups nationwide have had key members and leadership arrested over the previous few months, with expectations of further arrests being made by GNP leadership. GNP Commissioner Conan Collins has projected that it will take three more years before the nation returns to normal crime levels, but expects that it will only take a single year to stamp out most organised crime.

Protests emerge in wake of the "National Faith Act's" introduction to the Dáil
February 12 5435

Over 500,000 protesters have gathered nationwide to protest the HDP's proposed "National Faith Act". The protesters, representing the 68% of the population who aren't Hosian, had gathered outside the Dáil, the Oifig an Uachtaráin, and several regional government buildings in order to try prevent the passing of the act. Over 150,000 protesters turned up in Éagsúila, placing themselves right outside Merkan House, the assembly location of the Dáil. TDs had to be guarded by individual protection units while entering the building in order to prevent harassment by protesters. The protesters have rallied under the banner of "Tolerant and Free", and are seeking the HDP to stand down.

Minister for Justice Gearóid Mooney has stated that while the protests are legal, he is dissatisfied with the protesters' conduct surrounding the treatment of government officials, and has called for the GNP to provide security for government employees at their workplace. The minister has declared however that should the protests go violent, he will not hesitate to crush them.
