July 3143
Former president, Joseph von Heyst, passed away
Former president and current RSL presidential candidate Jospeh von Heyst died peacefully in his sleep this July 10th, weeks away from the next elections, at the age of seventy. Joseph von Heyst was a quiet man who possessed a dash of daring and the gift of amiability--a rare quality for an RSL man. He shall be sorely missed.
The RSL leadership voted to install Graham Willibald Weber as its replacement candidate. Several board members objected to putting him in the ballot immediately, however. Weber is a total unknown. Weber is a small-time parliamentarian from Bozarland and a colleague of the Overmans, more specifically of Leonard Overman, the RSL's current chairman. Weber has been voted by the leadership board because of his connections, and because he is a liberal, and the board has lately been dominated by liberals who have been responsible for toning down the RSL's racial beliefs. In fact, the liberals seek to eradicate that commitment altogether, which is not entirely possible for there still exists racist imperialist elements in the leadership. Reginald Blackburn and his daughter, Elizabeth Blackburn, are committed imperialists. It is the same with Henry Vogler and Anthony Overman, but only three of the nine seats in the RSL leadership board belong to the imperialist faction. But to return.
Graham Weber was elected to replace Joseph von Heyst as RSL presidential candidate because he was a liberal. He is also young, idealistic and very committed to his ideals, namely empire and liberty. The RSL has begun to introduce this youthful character to the greater Rutanian population with resounding success. The RSL still will not risk officially placing his name in the ballot, however, and will instead endorse the Freedom Party's candidate.
"He's a vigorous young man," Mr Reginald Blackburn said of Graham Weber. "He reminds me of myself, quite frankly even though we are opposed to each other on several major issues, like race for example. But he will value his heritage soon enough. Weber is lively, agreeable and committed, and I bet on him succeeding."
Mr Blackburn's daughter, however, is worried with her father's new-fangled affability.
"It's not like him," said she. "Mr Weber is a perfect candidate, a good Rutanian, but I personally detest him. Usually, my father would, too." At age 95 Mr Blackburn could be getting senile. When we asked Ms Blackburn about her father's unpopularity because of the stand he made against the Macon Pact and the "NIPT philistines" as he phrased it, she only replied:
"That was not senility. That was Rex being Rex. He never took care of his image. He will gladly carry all the dirt in the world for Rutania."
Mr Henry Vogler refused comment on Mr Weber's selection. It is well-known that Mr Vogler was ardently opposed to it.
Mr Leonard Overman, gave this speech following Mr Weber's selection:
Today is the birth of a new RSL. An RSL more committed to liberty than before even to the point of not refusing rights to racial minorities--a fresh RSL. I admit we have been rather stale for the past few decades. But we have shaken up the leadership, and you will see the results soon enough.
