STRATTON VICTORIOUS!

Image

The Democratic Socialist Front has risen from near-obscurity to become Rutania's new largest political party. Their leader Mageret Stratton has been declared the winner of the 3213 Presidential election by only a slight majority. A position she only received the nomination for in the months before the election date. The DSF has also been swept into the Parliament to become the largest party and will most likely form a large part of any new cabinet. Stratton has been a favourite of the Rutanian youth and her stunning victory has been celebrated across the land.

The Klausenburgs retire, new REP leadership elected
October 23, 3215

Today the Republican Elitist Party held a conference in the city of Hayek, Ardinia, in the homeland of the elitists. The conference marks the end of another era in the party's history, its two leading politicians, Armand and Petunia Klausenburg announced their retirement. Mr. Klausenburg served as President of the Commonwealth for 3 terms, while Mrs. Klausenburg as Minister of Foreign Affairs for 4 terms. After the last elections lost at the hands of the socialists, the two members of the oldest Rutanian political dynasty had no choice but to consider their exit from politics.

The party conference, however, was not dominated by a defeatist mood, party members and ordinary citizens from Hayek expressed overflowing sympathy towards the aging politician couple. The people we interviewed all shared the view that the last Klausenburg era in Rutanian history was a prosperous and glorious one similarly to the previous ones. Many of the citizens waiting for the announcement of the new leadership weared T-shirts and waved boards with the image of the Klausenburgs.

The Conference elected Oliver Vandermark as President of the REP and Klaus Veringen as Vice-President and head of the REP parliamentary faction. Mr. Vandermark is also a member of a great Rutanian politican dynasty whose two members served as monarchs of Rutania and one as Prime Minister. The Vandermarks initially acted in the one of the Commonwealth's old party, the Orange Party, but after the latter's disolution they were accepted by the REP. Mr. Vandermark graduated the Port Nelson School of Government and recently served as personal advisor of Armand Klausenburg. Mr. Veringen was a very popular party activist, he climbed the political ladder in a gradual fashion. He entered REP in the city of Klausenburg, Bozarland, worked as a simple party activist. He was later transfered to the Hayek headquarters as member of the party campaign staff. He graduated communication and PR at the University of Hayek.

In his inaugural speech Mr. Vandermark appreciated the Klausenburgs services for the Commonwealth: "Mr. Klausenburg took over presidency in a period of political crisis during which the Commonwealth did not have a working government for years. He stabilized this situation an relaunched the country's development."

Concerning the future the new chairman of the party declared: "The quickly emerging leftis camp is treathening the very existence of the Commonwealth. Through short-sighted interventionism and authoritarian tendencies they would destroy what Rutanians have built for millenia. They would destroy our freedom and prosperity which are our true common wealth. We cannot let this happen. We will not let this happen. We are willing to do anything to stop them from ruining Rutania. At the moment we have clear strategies to counter their activity, strategies remaining within the parliamentary frame. But should we fail, we seriously have to contemplate about going on the streets, or even grabing arms to defend our freedom and property. Because freedom and property are inalienable, absolute rights, no anarchist ladies with dubious morality can take them away."

The Conference ended with the intonation of the REP anthem and a reception at the Hayek Spoorts Arena.

OUR LADY, VICTORIOUS!

Image

President Margeret Stratton has clung to power, winning a nail-biting Presidential race and storming back into power for another four years. Whilst her party suffered a minor defeat, losing fifteen seats, and the cabinet she supported a larger defeat, she managed to forge on and maintain an endorsement of the people.Speaking to a crowd of 4000 mostly young DSF supporters last night, she said that the party and government had suffered a big blow and would need to thread together a majority to continue a functioning Rutanian government but she had faith that they could achieve as such.

Polls leading up to the election had the DSF led majority in trouble but Stratton's personal figures sky high. Many claimed that if the DSF returned in any fashion, it would be on her coat tails. Nonetheless, celebrations were seen across the land as the Socialists essentially maintained their presence in the Parliament. In the face of a brand new populist party, losses were to be expected. The shock fall of the MDP, however, has shaken the government and long nights of negotiation await the party and Mrs. Stratton.

Some fingers were being pointed at the Parliamentary Leader, Mr. Lynch, who is seen by many as bitter because of his fall from the top job and as too strident in his rhetoric. In what will most definitely be a cabinet shuffle, if the government survives, Mr. Lynch is certain to face demotion.

A NEW ERA IN RUTANIA!
Image
President Fletcher Brown during his inauguration speech.

RNN - Today marks the begining of a new era in the Commonwealth of Rutania as newly-elected president Fletcher Brown accepted his presidency. President Brown gave a short speech shortly after taking his oath of office.

Fletcher Brown:
"Today, we as Rutanians have made another stride torwards a great future and I now stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Stratton for her service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation she has shown throughout this transition, she was in fact the first person to congradulate me. You voice will be heard throughout government as I promise to uphold the values that the Rutanian's People Party has always shown. Once again, thank you for your trust that you have put into me."

Later, President Brown's first action as president was to propose his cabinet to Parliment which includes members from the Democratic Socialist Front and Moderate Democratic Party.

DSF LOSES PRESIDENCY, PARTY FACTIONS GO TO WAR.

Having lost the July 3221 election for the Rutanian Presidency, the Democratic Socialist Front has been captured by infighting, with the dominant Stratton faction falling victim to dwindling numbers following the election defeat. As the party moves into a coalition government led by the RPP, the Stratton faction has been left with too few votes in the caucus and risks losing the ascendancy on the issues of border control and immigration. Whilst the party has always intended to initiate targets for a "small Rutania", the softer Strattonites have always been able to hold off pushes for harsh immigration policies. They can do so no longer. As the defacto leader of the new largest faction, Harry Lynch, son of former leader Lester Lynch, looks set to have victories on nearly all policy fronts as well as even on the leadership front. Whilst there is no doubt any bloody move by Lynch to take out Stratton would be wildly unpopular and would likely split the party, the word is that some of Stratton's most strident supporters see an opportunity for "new blood" to lead the party back to the the head of the DSF-RPP coalition.

It is expected that a vote will be held this weekend and that Lynch will announce that the Party will support any RPP moves towards tighter border controls. This will scare off many of the DSF's most prominent youth supporters but party heads see it as the only way forward and proclaim that it has always been party policy nonetheless. All eyes would then be on Stratton, who some suspect could either resign entirely, fight Lynch for the leadership and soul of the party or take her faction and form a whole new Parliamentary force. Which ever she chooses both Lynch and the newly crowned RPP leadership will have to live in fear of what Stratton does next.

RPP IN TURMOIL?
Image
New RPP chairman, Jason Tettleton during his acceptance speech.

RNN - Today, a urgent meeting was called by board members of the RPP. Members of the RPP were asked to vote on whether to keep Chairman of the RPP, President Fletcher Brown as Party Chairman. After a long debate members decided President Brown's action on handling the cabinet issue were abusive of his power as he asked RPP members to resign from cabinet to force Parliment to approve his newly-proposed cabinet. Members next decided on the next party chairman. Members nominated and approved Jason T. Tettleton as the next party chairman. Chairman Tettleton offered a acceptance speech shortly after the decision.

Jason Tettleton:
"I graciously accept you nomination due to the unfortunate circumstances...as the precedent set by former leaders I will not be running on the RPP ticket as President in 3226, I will continue to support President Brown as our canidate."

Shippies Switch Sides!
Stratton set for Stunning return:

The DSF party convention, recently a far more sedate event, has returned a result that shocked even the most knowledgeable insiders. Margeret Stratton, the former two time President of Rutania, stormed the convention floor with no prior warning and demanded a vote be added to the Agenda. The crowd, shocked by her sudden presence, sprung into last minute factional organising, with some worries that either side of the leadership ballot could be victorious with less than a clear majority, a potentially fatal outcome for the DSF. Most voting members were able to return to the main hall, however, and the outcome they would provide flawed the current DSF leader, Harry Lynch. Assuming he would maintain his majority of 84 votes he seemed none too worried, if not a little surprised, by the Stratton motion. Though when the results were announced his expression altered swiftly. With all votes counted, the attendant proclaimed that 489 members supported the continuation of Lynch's reign, whilst 623 supported Stratton's return to the post. Silence overcame the room for what seemed like a whole ten minutes before shouts of "shame!" sprung from both sides. The executive chairing the vote called for calm. All listened as the executive happened to be Harry Lynch's father and former leader Lester Lynch. But this quiet lasted only minutes into his speech before word began to spread that it was Lester Lynch himself that had ordered his own Shippie faction of the DSF to withdraw their support of his son and move for a Stratton coup. The shouting got louder until both Lynch and his now deposed son were forced to leave the hall, leaving it to Stratton to attempt to string together a party full of hate and discontent. Her speech was no doubt hopeful, as they always are, yet the sense that the DSF of old was no longer could not be struck from the place. If Stratton is victorious at the next election, her chances boosted by the support of the RPP, these cracks might be healed but if the party remains stagnant, the DSF will never be what it once was.

RNN - After the recent debuckle at the DSF convention. A event that saw former President Stratton regain control. Amongst the aftermath reporters for the Rutanian News Network caught up with RPP chairman Landon Newman, who was among the crowd as he had offically offered the support from the RPP. Mr. Newman voiced his opinion on the power struggle the DSF is experiencing.

Landon Newman:
"We will continue to offer our support to the DSF even though many of our top members in the RPP would of liked to see Harry Lynch running for president, former President Stratton will have our full support."

REP puts conditions on its cabinet membership

Hayek, April 19, 3233 - President of the Republican Elitist Party, Oliver Vendermark told today the RNN that his party was approached by the Democratic Socialist Front (DSF) with the purpose of forming a new cabinet under the leadership of President Harry Lynch.

"We were contacted by the people of Mr. Lynch to enter a cabinet coalition together with the DSF. Their proposal is an honourable one and we intend to respond accordingly, keeping in mind that the Commonwealth needs responsible politicians. We find that the proposal of the DSF is a bit belated, it should have come earlier. It would have been wiser if the DSF asked us earlier, rather than governing with some irresponsible and crazy political parties." - said Mr. Vandermark to our reporter.

Image

"We are willing to enter the cabinet, because the Commonwealth needs a responsible cabinet. But we do not want to betray our allies from the Republican Party. Together with the RP we made a common front against the kind of leftist politics characteristic of the past, of which the DSF was part, I might add. So we condition our participation in a government lead by Mr. Lynch on the inclusion of the Republican Party into this future cabinet. We find that this tripartite coalition could give the necessary stability to Rutanian politics. Additionally, we want a constitutional change: we ask for the introduction of the office of Prime Minister who would lead the cabinet. Thus the executive branch would be lead by two persons, a President who has monopoly over cabinet proposals, and a Prime Minister who deals with the daily business of government. If the DSF are willing to fulfill these conditions, we are happy to enter the government" - Mr. vandermark concluded.
