Imperial Hulstrians Seek to Redefine Role in Politics

Following the results of the recent elections, many from with in the KHP have begun to question the party's role as the largely passive advocates of the Monarchy with in the Imperial Diet. For decades the KHP has largely stood by and allowed the great majority of direct policy making to be shaped by other parties in Hulstrian politics, seeking instead to quietly and indirectly influence the vote, rather then putting forward massive platforms. However key party members have now, reportedly, begun to question that role. Party Chairman, Eberhard von Nordhimmel, has publicly stated his belief that the KHP must revive its interest in policy decisions, specifically he indicated in Foreign Policy and the role of the Monarch in Hulstrian Politics. However many question the extent of Nordhimmel's actual power to encourage these changes, looking instead to Waldemar von Treuburg, former Hulstrian Staatsminister, who leads the KHP's Aristocratic Faction, of which von Nordhimmel is a member. Waldemar von Treuburg has also indicated his support for a strengthening of the KHP involvement in these affairs. Specifically in the realm of foreign policy, the former Staatsminister has called for a restrengthen of ties with Rildanor, Luthor, and Pontesi, which have lapsed in recent years. To this end Luitpold von Gelbwald, the former Hulstrian Envoy to the King of the Rildanorians and Ambassador to Rildanor, has recently assumed the position of Foreign Affairs Officer with in the Party. The former Ambassador has however had to step down from his position as the Hulstrian Chairman of the International Monarchist League, a position which has been filled by the Margrave of Treuburg. Some have questioned von Gelbwald's appointment to the number one Foreign Affairs position with in the KHP however. During his tenure as IML Chairman, von Gelbwald made it well known that he believed relations between the IML (and by extension Greater Hulstria) and the Axis should be minimal, and continued the tradition of the Hulstrian Chairman refraining from sitting on the leadership of the Holy Imperial Alliance. This may conflict with the goals of likely future Hulstrian Foreign Minister, Tokuro Tanemoto of the FAP, who has indicated he may wish to strengthen ties with the Axis.

Staatsminister von Treuburg has also come out in support of redefining the Monarchy's role in Hulstrian politics. The former Staatsminister refused to elaborate on a that position, however at a private dinner honoring the former NP party Foreign Affairs Chairman John Westmoreland, the former Staatsminister is said to have remarked in his address that he believed electoral politics had caused a rift between the Monarchy and her people. When questioned as to whether that comment indicated that he believed the position of Governor-General should be abolished in favor of a traditional Constitutional Monarchy, the former Staatsminister said only, "You may very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment." The subject of the position of the Monarchy has not been serious touched in decades, with the last reported musings on restoring the Monarch to the position as the sole Head of State supposed to have happened under the adminstration of Governor-General Wolfgang Reinhart, though nothing ever came of it. When asked for comment, the Emperor's personal secretary said that it would be improper for the Monarch to comment on the subject.

First prominent Gao-Showa politician in Nationale Partei

Image
Kuroda Mitsukane is the new National Party deputy chairman of the Crownland of Hilgar

Rothingren, Hilgar - The Hilgar National Party's regional committee announced that chairman Hans Fischer's deputy chairman nomination has been confirmed. Kuroda Mitsukane, a Gao-Showa politician native to the crownland. Kuroda is the first Gao-Showa nominated to such a high-ranking position in any crownland. The party has existed since 2769, but it has taken eight years for this to happen.

"Mr. Kuroda has proven himself in the field of politics. We're elated to have such a capable member join our organization," Fischer said at a dinner honoring Mr. Kuroda. "He's going to help us greatly make some headway in Hilgar."

"This comes as no surprise to me," Mr. Kuroda told reporters. "The National Party and I share common goals. My heritage should not and did not have any role in this nomination. We are all citizens of this nation. I think many people have that misconception about the National Party. We want to help all in the Dual Monarchy, Gao-Showa or Hulstrian. What we are opposed to is cultural miscegenation from the outside. Hulstria has fostered such a unique culture with both our communities...opening the borders would only tarnish this unique cultural situation we have in the Imperial Crownlands."

Mr. Kuroda's acceptance into the National Party's administration comes in light of accusations of the party's Hulstrian/Christian bias. The Nationals have been accused of ignoring the Gao-Showa minority in favor of pushing more aggressive legislation to favor Christians and Hulstrians. Despite Mr. Kuroda's admission into the party, most Gao-Showa still view the party negatively. In a recent survey, 90% of Gao-Showa said "they would never vote for the National Party" while 98% said "they would never register as a National Party member."

Ambrose Bauer Elected Socialist Party Leader
Suprise Upset over Margaret English, Agrees on United Cabinet with Other Parties

Bauer at Victory Rally in Kien

Kien, Greater Hulstria: In a suprise upset, Ambrose Bauer, the charismatic politician and the Diet member from Kien-Northeast, has become the Leader of the Socialist Party of Greater Hulstria at the annual party meeting in Kien. "This is a great day for the party, for Hulstria, and we shall win at the next election," Bauer said to the crowd. "It is an amazing thing to be given this great honor, and I shall make you proud."

The vote of 401-305 came as a suprise for reigning party leader Margaret English, who only 5 years earlier had lead the party to a 150 seat gain in the Imperial Diet. Many grassroots socialist supporters were upset about the dismal performance of the party in the 2776 elections, and especially with her poor handling of the negotiations regarding a united cabinet. She pledged to never form a cabinet that did not feature proportional representation, leading to a strained relationship between the SP and the other parties. But Bauer has said he will enter a cabinet with equal representation, arguing that unity is more important at the moment. He also pledged to lead reforms of the way in which the cabinets are selected. Mrs. English was absent from the post convention festivities, leading many to question whether she planned to challenge him in the future.

Bauer is the first non-Mormon to head the Socialist Party, and the first since reannexation to have not lived in Moroni. He has represented Kien-Northeast for 9 years.

Fascist Authority Party Puts Support Behind Strengthening Monarch Powers
Image
Vice-Chairman Says "FAP Interested In Forming New Monarchist Coalition With The KHP and National Party"

FAP National Headquarters, Kien, Hulstria- Fascist Authority Party Vice-Chairman, Max Hansel, yesterday held a press conference at the party's National Headquarters in Kien, and announced that his party would support measures to strengthen the powers of the Hulstrian Monarchy before a crowd of reporters. Hansel, who has served under disgraced former chairman Xavier Gaston, said the Fascist Authority Party "has been in talks with several parties with working out plans bringing out a new royalist coalition within Greater Hulstria devoted to increasing the powers of the Royal Family"; he said that the FAP since its founding has been "overtly royalist" and has shown their commitment to the security of the Monarchy "time and time again", notably the political battles with organizations that sought to abolish the monarchy such as the Revolutionary Republican Army in the mid 2600s, the Radicalists Movement in the 2740s, and the Communist Party of Hulstria not too long ago. "The Fascist Authority Party has attempted and has said that we would propose articles to place new powers into the hand of the Monarch but each time we found that it was only our party and the Imperial Hulstrian Party that really had interest in it," said the Vice-Chairman. "It was impossible to pass such legislation if we didn't have mass support. The introduction of the National Party has given the KHP and the FAP an opportunity to pass such sweeping legislation in moving the Monarchy from a ceremonial post to a more active level of government. It seems to me that over the past few decades more and more powers have been removed from the Emperor; the Monarch does have the power to appoint Crown Comissioners to lead over Crownlands but that is only it. His Majestys right to appoint Imperial Comissioners, mayors, and what not have been removed entirely or given to the Governor-General or to local governments". Hansel continued on by saying that "A good step in my opinion, on starting this new monarchist empowerment, would be the Imperial Diet passing the Colonial Revision & Reorganization Act still on the floor in legislature, an act that would give back the power of appointing the Imperial Comissioner of the Eastern Territories back the Monarchy and away from the Governor-General and Staatsminister. Over the next few years, I'd like to see new reforms passed as well if the FAP-KHP-NP gain in the next elections".

"The Fascist Authority Party and the National Party have been in talks about thinking up new legislation putting new powers in the Monarchy," said Hansel. "The FAP is glad to see another party has the same interest in monarchism as the KHP and my party; I'm interested in forming a new coalition of parties here Hulstria, mainly monarchist and royalist parties, with the National and Imperial Hulstrian Party. This new political coalition would carry about measures to empower the Monarchy with a new set of powers and responsibilities". However, the Vice-Chairman explained that "this new coalition won't replace the current unified cabinet up for vote in the Imperial Diet, this will purely a national political organization". He then said that "I hope that the National Party will consider joining the ranks of the likes of the Imperial Hulstrian and Fascist Authority parties. As everyone in Hulstria knows, the KHP and the FAP have a close political relationship, and I think it would be nice for the Nationals to come ally with us on these new monarchist ventures. My party is also considering endorsing the National Party for Governor-General in next years election and I'm interested to see if the KHP will do the same; we need new faces at the position and to have a monarchist at the helm would certainly kick off our royalist organization". Finally, the FAP Vice-Chairman stressed though that his party won't support "abolishing the rich history of the position of Governor-General of Greater Hulstria in favor of a traditional constitutional Hulstrian monarchy", however he said "if such a move were to be properly explained and debated on, the FAP may reverse it's position".

Chairman Erik Chamberlain "Hopeful" For New, Unified Cabinet In Hulstria
Image
FAP Chairman Chamberlain (L) and New Socialist Party Chairman, Ambrose Bauer (R) Pictured At A Diet Session

Imperial Diet- "I'm hopeful for a new, united cabinet in the Imperial Crownlands of Greater Hulstria," said Erik Chamberlain, the Chairman of the Fascist Authority Party. "Partisanship is in its last breath and Hulstria is by the minute closer to fully re-uniting with this national cabinet currenting up for vote in the Imperial Diet. I'm glad that the leaderships from the Socialist Party, the Nationals, and the Christian Liberals on top of the Imperial Hulstrians have come together to endorse bi-partisanship and unity in the national government. We worked it out, we made compromises, and have argeed on putting in an efficient, responsible government that will work for the Hulstrian man and women, not for self-interest". The unified cabinet, called the New Hulstria Coalition, was debated on for about 5 months before it being it put to vote eariler this year; the Imperial Hulstrian Party has been tapped to become Staatsminister once again, the National Party has been choosen to lead the Ministry of Defense, the Socialist Party at Justice, the Christian Liberals at Internal Affairs, and the Fascist Authority at Foreign Affairs amongst various other positions.

Erik Chamberlain said that "We worked with all the parties on picking out the positions and we were able to argee on the current placements in the bill now. Even the Socialist Party have decided to dump their proportional cabinet policy in favor of a united cabinet and I appericate that very much; the Socialist and Fascist Authority Party have been in talks about this cabinet and we were able to work out an argeement on them getting to vote in favor of the New Hulstria Coalition. Their new chairman, Ambrose Bauer, has been very diplomatic in these discussions and has been more open to the FAP than their previous leaders. As their news report in the Chronicle eariler, they will be spearheading new reforms on how we not only run the cabinet but how people are choosen for cabinets; they have proposed to us some pretty good ideas about creating new positions in the Diet, like a Speaker of the Diet or an Imperial Speaker, and to place new regulations to make sure that an ordeal like in 2773 with the cabinet won't happen again. The Fascist Authority Party will fully support their reform efforts, and hopefully every party in Hulstria will be proposing their own ideas in the discussions I believe are now open on the Diet floor. We're eager to work with the Socialist Party in the cabinet and with other ventures; while the FAP may not support the majority of their legislation, we do support and applaud their efforts for unity and creating new ideas".

Alexander Rand Speaks to Youth

Image
Alexander Rand, II, President of "Das Objektivismus Partei"

Labsburg, Budenlar- Objektivismus Partei president Alexander Rand, II spoke to a group of young thinkers, entrepreneurs, and graduate school students in Labsburg today, expressing the party's hopes for the future of Hulstria. "Done are the days of oppression! I look into this crowd in front of me and see many young, hopeful faces, many faces which hope for a tomorrow where their ideas and their ingenuity can flourish in our wonderful nation of Hulstria. We fear that some of you will never be able to HAVE that opportunity though, whether or not it's continental tensions of war, or our burgeoning spending with our subsidized healthcare and massive socialist expenditures, you may not have that future. We, as objectivists, must work for all men and women in Hulstria to have that chance. Time for change! Time for the people to have control over what they want in their lives. I understand, we must help the poor, the sick, the downtrodden, but not on the taxpayers' dime! Many of them got there due to their own follies! What we want is a unified government, where we can work towards a tomorrow where legislation actually has a chance to pass in Kien. There is so much prosperity in Hulstria, and there is even hope for more prosperity, so long as we can allow capitalism to flourish and grow in Hulstria, we need to be a light on a hilltop, no, not just a hilltop, but a mountaintop, an example for ALL the world that human creativity and ingenuity develops best when it is allowed to develop. I pray, that each and every one of you will work for a tomorrow, where you and every single other Hulstrian, are guaranteed a chance to change the world, so long as you strive for that chance. My party has been working towards a government for the people, by the people, and of the people for years now, and we hope to do so for years to come. With the help of other conservatively minded parties, whether or not it be conservative in the military sense, or conservative in the economic sense, or even in the social sense, we CAN move this nation forward, away from the old ways of the past and to a brighter future for the individual! Thank you, and remember...Atlas zuckte nicht!"

Surprisingly, Rand did not mention Dr. Schlaback's victory in the Governor-General seat to the group, though later he did mention to reporters that he "found Dr. Schlaback's victory a marvelous step in the right direction for Hulstria." He also mentioned his hopes and wishes for an updated cabinet.

Dr. Wilhelm Baerd Speaks on OP Victory

Image
Wilhelm Baerd, Ph.D.

Labsburg, Budenlnar- Wilhlem Baerd, Ph.D, (Doctor of Political Science) one of the founding members of das Objektivismus Partei spoke today in Labsburg on the Objectivist victory with the Christian Liberals in the 2779 elections. Baerd, 56, was once a Christian Liberal himself, until he found the party's seemingly pro-monarchy platform incompatible with democracy in Greater Hulstria. "This is a great sign for the people of Hulstria!", Baerd said. "This is a sign that the people of Hulstria want to keep their money! They want to have greater choices in their health care! They want to sow a future for their children WITHOUT government interference! True, we did tie with an opposition party, but we still have the greatest number of seats! I vow to everybody here today, that if the OP gets any say in the re-monarchization of Hulstria, that we WILL NOT allow it to get through. Imperialism has never brought true prosperity to peoples around the globe! It was always under pseudo-democratic monarchies that people have been oppressed! The people shall prevail! We are putting every resource we can behind an attempt to unify this government, not under the guise of "Unify", meaning, "leaving one of the largest parties out of the government just because they don't agree with our agenda that we're trying to push through", no, a truly unified government, attempting to work towards a better tomorrow for all Hulstrians. We must thank you all for bringing us, and the people, to the front of the government. And remember, Atlas hasn't shrugged!"

When asked further about a "unified government" Baerd simply stated, "We hope for a government where progress is put over agenda."
Later, when asked if the OP opposes the monarchy, Baerd stated, "Not in the least, we just don't believe that an autocracy of hereditary rulers should decide what is best for the people, when the people know what is best, I believe the monarchy as it is, is perfect."

Ambrose Bauer Confident About Future of SP
Socialist Party Leader Encouraged About Future Success

Socialist Party Leader Ambrose Bauer Addressing the Media about Election Results

Kien, Greater Hulstria: Ambrose Bauer, the Socialist Party leader, has expressed confidence in the future of his party after it gained four seat in the Imperial Diet, while holding off a strong conservative advance within the nation. "While we may have lost a few seats in some Crownlands, we have opened new doors and new opportunities in others, and the age of democratic socialism is on the horizon," Bauer said to the press this morning outside party headquarters. "Soon, we will have a society in which all are equal, and all are treated with the dignity each human being deserves."

Bauer also adressed the statement delivered by Wilhlem Baerd, the leader of the Objektivismus Partei, who announced his support for the abolition of the monarchy. "The Socialist Party of Greater Hulstria supports the Emperor completely and has the upmost respect for him. He can rest easy knowing we shall never betray him or any member of the Imperial Family, as the Objektivismus Partei has done today. The problem with the Objektivismus Partei is grounded more in the fact that, since they are a new party with no experience, they have been left out of the cabinet. They have taken out their anger by trying to take away what is most dear to the people of this great nation. We shall not tolerate it."

Bauer also congratulated his brother, Eddie, on winning election to the Diet, representing a district in the Crownland of Hulstria.

Baerd Responds to Socialist Mudslinging

Image
Dr. Baerd, Responding to Socialist Remarks

Labsburg, Budenlar- After these remarks by the Socialist Party, ""The Socialist Party of Greater Hulstria supports the Emperor completely and has the upmost respect for him. We shall not tolerate it."" Dr. Wilhelm Baerd of the OP immediately responded with these statements.
"First, I want to make it VERY clear to ALL of Hulstria, we DO NOT support abolishing the crown, we simply don't want the Hulstrian government to come under complete monarchal control, which is what we fear it may be moving towards in the future. We don't support over expansion of any government entity, period. Secondly, we have a higher maturity level than that of a teenage girl, we didn't support the coalition because it is one that claims to be unified, but it leaves one of the most popular parties out, that is not unified, leaving out a party that 20% of all Hulstrian voters support. We extend our greatest apologies to the Emperor and his family if we have offended them, and we will continue the fight for the common Hulstrian."

Ambrose Bauer in Kien

Kien, Greater Hulstria:
Socialist Party leader Ambrose Bauer today responded to the attack by Objektivismus Partei leader Wilhelm Baerd on the SP. “We are in no way surprised by the immature and very misleading statement made by Wilhelm Baerd, leader of the OP,” Bauer said at a press conference. “Our criticism of his party and his statements were legitimate and accurate. He made it crystal clear that his party intends to weaken, and eventually dismantle, that great institution of ours, and his later statements were delivered with the sole purpose of trying to win back the large amount of public support he lost with his message. We urge all other parties in the Imperial Crownlands of Greater Hulstria to work together for the preservation of the monarchy.”

Other parties in the Diet have also been quite vocal in their criticism of the OP.

Fascist Authority Party Maintains Sizeable Portion Of The Imperial Diet
Image
"Though Majority Was Lost, The FAP Remains One Of The Largest Parties" Says Chairman Erik Chamberlain (above)

Imperial Diet- Despite the Fascist Authority Party losing seven seats in this years election, thus removing them at their majority post, the party remained the third largest party in the Imperial Crownlands of Greater Hulstria with over 136 seats (19% of the legislature). The FAP received over 41 million votes this election year capturing the region of Hulstria once again with an outright majority but did not win Mitrania though came in a very close third place; Mitrania went instead to the National Party, a member of the Hulstrian Monarchist Society, Hulstria's new monarchist coalition that the FAP is also a member of. The Christian Liberals and the Objektivismus Partei saw a 6 and 24 seat gain in the Imperial Diet respectively but failed to achieve a clear majority; remarkably both parties ended up with the same amount of seats at 146, thus allowing them to both have a majority in the legislature. The implosion of the Alliance for Greater Hulstria, a mainly devolutionist party, left over 59 seats unfilled in the Diet, and despite a failed effort to hold new elections, those 59 seats remained empty; it is being reported that the former supporters of the Alliance for Greater Hulstria have left to join the National Party, the Christian Liberals, and the Objektivismus Partei, giving them an opportunity to see a boost in representation this year. The Fascist Authority Party's 7 seat loss is being credited to the party's lack of religious right legislation over the past years; the religious right, one of the Fascist Authority Party's core support groups, did not come out for the FAP as much as many would've hoped. The Socialist Party of Greater Hulstria saw a 4 seat gain in the elections, the National Party with 35 while the Imperial Hulstrian Party saw 3 seats lost still trying to rebound after an international trip that left them having to loss a massive amount of legislation.

As announced by Vice-Chairman Max Hansel eariler this year, the FAP formally endorsed Joseph Karcher, the chairman of the National Party for Governor-General of Greater Hulstria this year. It has been reported that Karcher and Chamberlain have been discussing many issues concerning monarch empowerment with eachother; Chamberlain in one of there private discussions at the National Party headquarters in Kien, told the NP chairman way before the public announcement made by Max Hansel to the press that his party would be endorsing the NP candidate for Governor-General at hopes of kick-starting the new Hulstrian Monarchist Society with such a win. Joseph Karcher did not disappoint, on top of a 35 seat gain for his own party in the Imperial Diet, beat out former Governor-General Lukas Adenauer who was running once again to see if he could pull off a possible Wolfgang Reinhardt or Anders Rakse move but failed. Karcher won over 102 million votes in the second round of Governor-General voting beating Adenauer with about 96 million; in the first round of voting Karcher also beat now former Governor-General Klaus Schlaback, Socialist Party chairman Ambrose Bauer, and Eberhard von Nordhimmel of the Kaiserliche Hulsterreichische Partei (the Imperial Hulstrians). A spokesperson for the Fascist Authority Party said that the party is "extremely delighted that the National Party and Joseph Karcher saw impressive wins this election, we hope to bring out new royalist reforms with both the National and the Kaiserliche Hulsterreichische Partei over the next 3 years".

Fascist Authority Party Chairman Erik Chamberlain spoke with reporters outside the Imperial Chamber, the Diet's main legisltive hall, about the electoral results. "I'm very pleased with the election results, the FAP maintained its ground this year, and our allies in the Monarchist Society saw good gains as well," said Chamberlain. "Now with the Hulstrian Monarchist Society with a clear voice in the Imperial Diet, I can say by at least next year in 2780 the KHP, NP, and the FAP will be introducing sweeping and comprehensive monarchist reform. We don't seek to create an absolute monarchy, let me make that clear, we seek to create a traditional constitutional monarchy within these Imperial Crownlands that won't leave local governments or the government in Kien out in the dust". Chamberlain also said "I'd also like to congratulate the Objektivismus Partei for their boost; the FAP was unsure about their electoral capability after their inactive streak these past two years. The AGH implosion absolutely was a life saver for them and I hope to work with them now fully since they're active as a political party once again". The chairman expressed concern however about the comments made by Wilhelm Baerd, a founding member of the OP, about the Objektivismus Partei's criticism of the united cabinet, the New Hulstria Coalition. "Let me make it clear the Objektivismus Partei was left out of the cabinet because they were inactive, simple as that. It was only until the last minute where a cabinet was argeed upon and was on the floor in the Diet for vote when the Objektivismus Partei returned to Kien; I can assure Mr. Baerd that there is no conspiracy to keep them out of government" stressed chairman Chamberlain. "If the Objektivismus Partei is cooperative and patient, a revised cabinet will be put into place to include the Objektivismus Partei to truely make this cabinet unified. If Mr. Baerd is confident his party won't be gone for another extensive period amount of time like before, the FAP won't be opposed to them taking Trade & Industry and Education & Culture as a good first start in the cabinet".

Chamberlain then called for calm between the Socialist and Objektivismus parties; Chamberlain commented that "if the Objektivismus Partei supports national republicanism and/or measures to abolish the monarchy, their political career in Hulstria is over", however "while their comments on imperialism may signal republican sympathies, they seem to be opposed to absolute monarchs, oppressive monarchs, something the Monarchist Society is overtly against. We believe in traditional constitutional monarchies where both parliament and the Monarchy have powers guided by law". The chairman rounded off his interview/comments to reporters by saying "we should stop this bickering and instead focus on lawmaking, something the Hulstrian people elected us to do. The FAP looks forward to the Socialist's forum on environmental protection coming up and hope that all parties join in on the discussions".
