Al-e-Ahmad City4 February, 5400A press release from Al-e-Ahmad City Security Commissioner Fahd al-Rizk has confirmed initial reports of a series of explosions in several locations in the capital earlier today.
Only three of the explosions have confirmed locations so far; an apartment complex, Al-e-Ahmad University, and the Supreme Court.
While we have no official report of casualties, reporters for Sawt al-e-Badara have confirmed at least 30 casualties they have seen as they monitor the situation on the ground. The apartment complex has mostly collapsed according to Nazeema el-Obeid, one of our reporters on the ground. She estimates total casualties to be in the hundreds.
More tragic news to be heard from Al-e-Ahmad University; both for Badara and us at Sawt-al-e-Ahmad. After an explosion tore through the East Wing of the university, armed militants converged on the campus firing rifles and wielding machetes. At least ten students, one faculty member, and our own reporter Asad el-Hasan - who was reporting on the initial explosion - have all been confirmed to be dead following the subsequent ground attack, with many more estimated to have died in the explosion.
The Supreme Court was not in session at the time of the attack, and we have confirmation that damages to the building are superficial.
Appearing alongside Al-e-Ahmad’s Mayor, Riyaal al-Soltani, President al-Ghanem issued a follow-up press release to announce the arrival of the national guard, and that the army was on standby to intervene if necessary. Calling Ahmadi radicalism “a terrible scourge on our people, and a festering wound in our nation that needs to heal” the President promised a “swift” response and that he will “use all powers available” to him as President to keep the peace.
When asked if the Mukhabarat had any information on the instigators of today’s attack, or any suspicions that more attacks would follow, the President said that the people of Badara “should expect, and prepare for, every possibility.”
UPDATE ON 5 February, 5400:In a video posted to the internet the terrorist group Jaysh Ahmad has taken responsibility for yesterday's attacks, which have left over sixty dead and 150 wounded.
Jaysh Ahmad, which affiliates itself with the Ahmadi State in Badara and the Majatran Caliphate, is the largest terror agency still active in Badara. Yesterday's attacks, however, were more deadly than all attacks by Ahmadi radicals in the last few decades combined. JA is led by Harun al-Hashim, an Ahmadi radical who wishes to restore the Ahmadi National Front (an Ahmadi Socialist party that has, since being banned centuries ago, operated underground as a pipleline to radicalization) and the supremacy of Ahmadism over Badara and its culture.
The video ended with al-Hashim issuing a call to arms to all Ahmadis living in Badara;
"...the government has turned its back on Ahmad and his teachings, it is time for the people to claim this nation back from those who would destroy it. And after this nation, all of Majatra!"
