John Becket Makes Trip to Kalistan

John Becket and nineteen other pastors are making a 2 week trip to Kalistan, they will preach at churches were they are invited all over the country, and go on interviews and make speeches throughout the whole two weeks. If successful they plan to raise funds for a church in the city of Kaliburg, the capital city of Kalistan. They are renting out theaters, halls, and churches to talk about the reformation, and explain their views, attendance is free and they hope for a large success.
Interested in not responding to ridiculous accusations, namely from Jakania, and Lourania, and now Valruzia

In his first ever state of the nation speech, Lehendakari Marinel Berrio set a precedent for government scrutiny and oversight by giving a
two hour speech followed by significant numbers of questions from media reporters and academics. In his speech he emphasised the
successes which Enskalan has experienced under his ten years of governance, how its economy has been highly successful on the world
stage with growing brands such as Osasor, IjuroVellara, EBK and EnskalAire becoming highly successful in their fields of pharmaceuticals
and transport. He focused on the development of a new Enskalan Identity most notably the increase in those for whom Enskalan is their
first language, demonstrating a successful program of nationality creation. He also emphasised the increase in defense and police
spending, with the government prioritising the safety and protection of Enskalan citizens both at home and abroad.

Civic Nationalism and Economic Inclusiveness
In a conclusory statement, Lehendakari Berrio focused in on the issues of economic inclusiveness and civic nationalism, "The creation of
the new republic stands as a great opportunity for political, cultural and economic experimentation free from the constraints imposed on
long established nations. Our countries civic identity grounded in modernity, economic growth, social progress and democratic governance
is a great building block for the creation of a highly influential, far reaching and inclusive economy. The Government's initial aims, to
stabilise the economy after the collapse of the old regime and to stimulate the growth of the transport, pharmaceutical and resource
extraction industries, have been all but complete, providing a perfect foundation for future scientific endeavours and improvements in
productivity and living standards. We must strive to continue this trajectory through the current term and beyond into the next decade."

A New Political Era
When questioned about whether he intended to retire from politics after a decade of national service he stated, "soon, once a good
replacement has been found. It will be there job to build on my Government's work and to establish a vibrant multi-party democracy."

Concerns about the dominant-party system had been increasingly prevalent at the last election, where criticisms of the government
from within the EDB failed to materialise into a change of policy, suggesting the importance of a multi-party system with an active and
effective opposition.
Berrio was greatly applauded following his speech, seen as the beginning of the end of a political career which has spanned over a decade.
His position as Founder of the Nation has been well established, whether his politics will survive past his retirement is yet to be seen, even
if his visionary ideals are set to ground the Enskalan State for decades to come.

rise of the National Movement and the election of Marinel Berrio as Lehendakari of the Enskalan State. Its editors emphasise political
neutrality on internal Movement matters, however it is staunchly in support of the National Movement's aim of establishing an Enskalan
national identity.

Kaliburg Financial District is set to become one of the most important financial centres within Seleya as both domestic and foreign
financial service companies have begun to set up shop in Kalistan's liberal capital. Government policies on economic liberalisation
of businesses and more specifically the financial sector, has led to an increase in the number of transactions within in the Kaliburg
Securities Exchange by more than 400% over the past few months. This combined with the stable nature of the Enskalan economy
and the nation's central location for trade and financial transactions between Antania and Dovani has led to the growth of not only
domestic holdings companies like EIC and Batua, but also to an influx of foreign investment firms setting up office to take advantage o
of the growing stock and derivatives trade.
A great example in growing business trust in the Enskalan economy is the FBBC's decision to move their main office from Baltusia to
the Kaliburg Financial District, stating that they intended to 'craft a stable financial services sector', following "little financial stability"
in Baltusia. It is clear from this move, as well as several statements from various investment firms and economics specialists that
Kalistan is set for a successful growth in the financial services sector over the coming years, which the Finance Minister has called,
"a sign of our government's commitment to the economic development, free trade and commerce."

A Great Opportunity For Kalistan
The government has sought to take advantage of the growing financial interest through the passing into law of the "Banking and Investment
Regulatory Reform Act 4740"
which has decentralised the financial sector by giving banks and financial institutions more freedom to
lend, has legalised the growing trade in cryptocurrency under government oversight and has implemented regulatory reforms which intend
to provide protection to national and foreign assets traded on financial markets. The government has also created a National Development
Bank, Garapen, using disused government assets left over from the socialist old regime as collateral to attract investment for use in
infrastructure spending and business grants. By utilising the growing financial sector, the Government seeks to allow for a freer movement of
capital throughout the Globe while ensuring that the financial development benefits the people and businesses of the Enskalan State.

The Growth of Domestic Investors
Not only is the government seeing the growing financialization of the economy as an opportunity for investment. EIC, a large investment
and holdings company in the Enskalan State, focusing on infrastructure and pharmaceuticals and holding stocks in EnsGas, Osasor and
Energia, has seen the financialisation as an opportunity for the company to expand its investment portfolio internationally by enabling
the merger of smaller pharmaceutical companies with the Osasor giant. Another interested party is Batua, which owns significant holdings
in the Enskalan transport and mining sectors, has seen the negotiations between Lourenne and the Government as an opportunity to expand
mining operations into the rich untapped mineral deposits not only in Lourenne but throughout Dovani. Emesan has already been floated
as the main beneficiary of negotiations between the United Kingdom and the Enskalan State in exchange for Industrie Capet-Fouquet and
Groupe Larosière receiving rights to shipbuilding and the expansion of the Enskalan mainland's docks. Such developments are seen by policy
analysts as an opportunity for Enskalan's thriving mining and pharmaceutical sectors to expand beyond solely the national market, hopefully
leading to increased employment and a decrease in product costs for pharmaceuticals goods and ferrominerals.

Enskalan National Cult recedes into Memory
Strange wave of nationalism from an ethnic minority reabsorbed into Kalistani Sea

Kaliburg, Ananto
September 18, 4757

More than 20 years ago, the Kalistani Republic, devoid of any serious political issues, fell under the control of a single party of minority nationalists who aimed at no less than ignoring the history of the Republic and rewriting it to suit the narrative that their ethnic-based Party sought to create. Without challenge in government, a whole people were renamed, a strange foreign language peculiar to this ethnic minority was imposed upon the people, and a new identity was thrust upon them.

And then, like many other Parties who make radical changes to the eternal regime in Kalistan, they too lost interest in their own program and disbanded. In the vacuum that was created, the National Assembly, called for years the Enskalan Parliament in Vrassan (Luthori) was shuttered, and power devolved to the District levels. Kalistan slowly fell out of memory of other nations in Terra once more, a dead zone obliterated by radical change and willful subversion of Kalistan's traditional institutions.

It is into this environment that the Socialist Party of Kalistan rises once more. Our initial aim is to restore the traditional institutions of Kalistan. This is not to say that some of the innovations that the Enskalan Ethnic Party brought are unwelcomed: We hope to work with our newly interested partners in maintaining relationships as Kalistan transitions back to its Median. Naturally, as in the past, the SP will hold elections as soon as it is possible to do so, and will field a full slate of candidates for all offices. Restarting the Republic will be a challenge, but it is one that the Socialist Party is uniquely capable of doing, especially given its ties to institutions which survived the tsunami, such as the Society of Brethren, which still represent the dominant faction of religion in Kalistan.

Meanwhile, all other nations are invited to send representatives to Kalistan to meet with the Socialists, and ensure that both Parties begin on the correct footing with one another. Given the traditional hostility most nations have historically shown toward socialist Kalistan, it would be better to start well, rather than watch things deteriorate once again. We will happily receive all diplomatic envoys as friends, even those sent by nations who have traditionally been at odds with Kalistan internationally.

IZQUIERDA Daily
Editorial: Kalistani Must be restored in Republic

Kaliburg Ananto
February 2, 4758

Dear Editor,

My name is Alice. I am a 57 year old Kalistani national and I write today, for the first time to any National Newspaper to say I am personally fed up with the Government's perpetuation of this fraud of Enskal. I know I am not alone in this nation in saying so either. As near as I can tell, some decades ago, a group of nationalists who, working closely with a group of interested anthropologists, developed this hypothesis that we in this nation are not a melange of nationalities of all nations, but instead, posses unique national and cultural identity, unlike any other nation in Terra. They called this identity "Enskal" because that was the language on a series of long forgotten documents and scrolls they had discovered a few years prior.

The idea caught on that our national identity was this Enskal, and a Party formed to promote that identity in Kalistan. That political Party, motivated as they were, gained control of the Government and promoted the use of this dead language, unlike any of the others spoke in the more familiar parts of the world, as a uniquely Kalistani, of in this case, now Enskali language, one just for us, which makes us not like everyone else in the world but in fact, parochially separate. The Party utilized the mechanisms of Government to promote the cultural identity, and our people went along with it, largely because there was no opposition.

And then, the movement that promoted this identity crested and receded. And we were left with a country that, officially anyway, looks dramatically different than the entire rest of our nation's history. Those official changes still exist, even as the Socialist Party re-embarks on its role in government.

So: what will the SP do to rectify our nation? Certainly, there is a significant group of people who were born into the identity, and have embraced it. But I would argue that the vast majority of the Republic has continued operating as it always has. But now is the best chance we've had in a long time to bring the Enskalan identity back into the larger Kalistani culture.

I, and I feel I can speak for my neighbors and even the majority of the country, urge the Socialist Party to take a stand for traditional Kalistani culture, and rebuild our identity, our language and Nation.

Sincerely, Alice from Kaliburg

Socialist Deputies weigh options
Lourenne's recent statements "trouble" minority

Kaliburg, Ananto
March 12, 4758

Image
Kalistan's Provisional National Assembly meets to discuss news from Lourenne

"This is not the way we imagined it," said newly elected Socialist Deputy from Sulari Franco Edwards. "We have barely formed a government, and at the Plenary meeting of the National Assembly, the first such meeting in Kaliburg in a decade, we find this out."

The news Deputy Edwards refers to comes from the United Kingdom of Lourenne, Kalistan's old rival. In a recent news report from the Canrilaise journal Defense Nationale, the Government of Lourenne appears to be preparing for armed intervention in what is admittedly an unstable environment which is now known as Enskal Estaura. The warning serves as a threat for some Socialist Deputies, who identify themselves as "Old Line Nationalists."

One, a Deputy from Port Eshar in Vrassa name James Douglass Paige stated, "Well, under no circumstances would Kalistan of our grandfathers have ever tolerated this type of provocation from the Lourennaise!" Speaking from the floor, Paige attempted to rally the endorsement of his fellow deputies for an emergency activation of the militias in preparation for any Lourenaise action. He gained the vocal support from about 45 of his fellow deputies.

But the new Defense Minister, Honorario Sanchez, rose to speak on behalf of the Government. "Comrades, and Adiskideak, You propose we fight them. You propose we activate the militia to defend Kalistan. I ask: With what? Kalistan's military was unceremoniously mothballed more than 8 years ago, and the militia has not been activated for generations. Even if we had weapons, we don't have anyone trained. It will take us months to stand anyone in the militia up, and then they would be no match for Lourennaise regulars." At the end of the day, the Old Line Nationalists got Sanchez to agree to work on plans to at least mount a defense of Ananto and the Ananto Straits, as soon as it is practical. Sanchez also agreed to begin evaluation of the state of the Eskalan navy, to begin patrols in the Ananto Strait as soon as possible.

"Its a small win," said Paige, who vowed to force through legislation before the end of summer which would renew Kalistan's traditional stance in the region. "We don't have the numbers today, but I was not elected to office to sit on my hands and allow our great Republic be pushed around by Lourenne." It is not clear how much support there is for Paige's hardlined stance, but what is clear is that the Brethrenist faction, who generally oppose war and conflict, currently hold the dominant position within the Party, which conforms to fact that Brethrenist meetings served as a primary source for new recruits for Party offices. If Tuesday's votes were any indication, the Nationalist position represents slightly less than 9 percent of the current Assembly.

As IZQUIERDA is currently the only operating newspaper in the Republic, and we are currently serving as the primary mouthpiece for the Luthori and Egelian speakers in Eskalan/Kalistan, the editors have not taken a position between the nationalists and the pacifists. We should note however that in the past, threats to Kalistani national integrity have almost always produced rapid and dramatic mobilization of Kalistani military assets. It is certain that if the provocations from Lourenne continue unanswered over time, the nationalist position in the Assembly will grow stronger. For his Part, Paige is already beginning to campaign for the elections in 3 years on a strongly nationalist message and he and several close associates have already identified several potential candidates who may offer an electoral challenge to Brethrenist opponents.

"We think we can identify about 200 strong nationalists across the Republic who will absolutely challenge any Socialist deputies who do not mount an adequate challenge to Lourennaise provocation," said Paige. "Perhaps putting the threat of a primary will spur them to action, if the threat of a Lourennaise missile sub in Port Davon does not."

We shall see.

Incoming Lehendakari Joaquin Bennots-Hernandez pledges focus on economy and national revitalization
Pledge disappoints many Nationalists

Kaliburg, Ananto

President Joaquin Bennots-Hernandez pledges to focus on economic and national revitalization

Eskalan Estadura stands on the doorstep of massive prosperity and will soon become the financial capital of Seleya. The leading Eskalan reported that very real potential future 17 years ago.

And then nothing. The investment which came pouring in following the ERB's massive liberalization and privatization efforts slowly began to trickle out following the adoption of the hands off approach to government which has late been the MO of our "national government" such as it still exists. Kalistani socialists returned to office after more than a decade of completely absence of a national Government in any real sense of the word. As policy making devolved to the Districts, who first stepped up to fill a vacuum, and then realized that the National Government would not return soon, national policy was thought to be a thing of the past. Capital assets of Kalistan were neglected, and then repurposed, sometimes, mothballed, as the case of Kalistan's Standing Military and Navy, or just drydocked and allowed to rust. What was to be an economic boom never quite sounded, and the aftermath was less than underwhelming. They were forgettable.

The newly elected President of the National Assembly, socialist Joaquin Bennots-Hernandez has vowed to reverse this trend toward atrophy. He has made public a draft economic plan to stabilize Kalistan's wildly fluctuating currency, bring rampant inflation under control, and restart Kalistan's National Industrial Sector and National Service Program which for centuries served as a motive engine for Kalistani prosperity and its geopolitical standing in Northern Seleya.

"It is too late to save significant sectors, without heavy foreign investment," said Bennots. "But with FDI we must also have capital controls to prevent capital from being exported from Ensakl/Kalistan with no benefit to our own people. We just have so much on our plate. Triage is the word of the day. First priority is ODEN, and to that effect we have already begun to bring Kalistan in line with ODEN's provisions. After we have ODEN set back up, we are looking on modest capital controls, with strong contract protections to encourage FDI. Revitalization of our industrial base is also high on our priorities list, and restarting the Kalsie is also very important. First things first though."

Bennots also spoke of National revitalization. "We are in the process of ending a decades old informal practice known as Enskal-First, which was the primary vehicle that the EDB to promote something like apartheid in our nation. Once that practice ends, and Enskal are returned to the Kalistani people as equals, we still need to do a lot of work to bring our nation back in line with a more traditional position. This is not to say that those with the Enskal identity will be forgotten or neglected by our Government. We hope to revitalize national spirit on all fronts."

Bennots seems very optimistic about the potential success of his program of slow, incremental alteration to accomplish SP overall goals. But his national and economic plans are at odds with strong Nationalists in the National Assembly, who do not yet have the votes to thwart Bennots' aspirations.Bennots, for his part has vowed to consider some of the Nationalists' proposals over the coming months. "We have all the time in the world," said Bennots. "But national economic restoration is of immediate importance." His confidence may be why he won the elections.
