Private High School under fire over illicit bribery scheme
A private school in rural Eastern Oderveld received bribes from Student's families in order to give them higher marks.
December 5372

in other news:
- Education Minister to meet delegation of Private Schools Headmasters.
- Brilliant 13-years-old Chess player Harold Lindt defeats national title holder Jannick Poehl, aged 66.

HERTZDORF, ODERVELD - A private school in a small eastern Oderveld town, Hertzdorf, population 7.800, is under fire after it has been reported that the Headmaster, Mr. Ulrich Oppenheimer, allegedly received several bribes coming from parents of bad-performing children, in order for them to receive higher marks and consequently allowing them to illegally graduate from High School.
The alleged fact was reported by the Deputy Headmaster, Ms. Kat Kath which noticed a sharp increased in some students marks despite their tests remaining mediocre, the Deputy Headmaster then confronted her boss, who confessed the fact while being secretly taped by Ms. Kath.

Ms. Kath then asked the students, unaware that their parents were paying money to get them higher marks, if they changed their studying habits, justifying the sudden increase in their results, turns out that the students were reportedly 'paying less attention in class' and 'doing even less homeworks'. At that point Deputy Headmaster Kat Kath turned her concerns to the Police, that upon listening to the recordings she made, proceeded to arrest the Headmaster and 9 parents, aged from 41 to 54, all with very high incomes and university degrees. Funnily enough, this has been the first criminal case resolved by the Hertzdorf Local Police led by Chief Paul Leitner, a young Policeman, who said that in this town there aren't much crimes, and that out of the 10 months he's been in office as Chief, this has been the first crime his police unit worked on.

This bribery scheme shocked the peaceful community of Hertzdorf, with people outraged and angry. We interviewed some of them:
If your kid is dumb, you pay a tutor to teach him, not the Headmaster!
- Hannah Thomms, 75, former Math teacher in that Private School

This is really appaling, private school kids think they're superior to those who attend public schools.
- Lena Hochberg, 45, mom of two Public High School children

Bribery...I fear like these big city behaviors are spreading to small towns like ours...
- Dietrich Muller, 50, a former Dunburg resident who moved to Hertzdorf

I hope the students get to repeat the cheated tests!
- Thomas Timmermans, 29, former top student at that Private School

But someone found the fact fun, a young person commented on this fact using a Luthorian slang expression:
Haha, yes I saw, super cool, this should be legalized LOL!

Ladungstransport B

STOP GAP TRANSPORTS PURCHASED

Defense Ministry, August 21, 5373: Nationaler Verteidigundsrat (NVR) or National Defense Council’s Ableitung II which handles procurement has long been looking at transporting troops. The Fallschirmjager Battalion of the Luftwaffe has excellent provision for transport in the six ADG A400M aircraft purchased from Artanian Defense Group, but Ableitung II has been trying to figure out how, in the event the Bundesrepublik was to send a contingent to join an expeditionary force of the World Congress or the Artanian Union, we could move troops beyond our own landlocked borders to other parts of Artania or a port in a reasonable amount of time.

Ableitung II has been thinking in terms of up to a division however the initial problem has been how to transport a brigade. Buying old airliners has been one thought but more recently it has been discussing the problem with Dundorfische Hoch Logistik, a relatively new and ambitious shipping company, whose design division remembered working with several potential international customers to produce a military cargo fixed wing aircraft with short takeoff or even vertical takeoff capacity for use in Seleya. A 36 passenger aircraft was actually produced but the only actual contracts were with a mountainous postal service, and the rising cost of fuel caused the project to be abandoned.

While Dundorfische Hoch Logistik was still optimistically working on the project, plans were developed and a prototype started and nearly completed for a 100 passenger short or vertical liftoff military transport but it too was abandoned.

As a short term solution to begin to address the problem, Ableitung II would like to putrchase 20 of the 36 passenger aircraft, called Ladungstransport A, from Dundorfische Hoch Logistik. Ableitung II is confident that production could begin within a year since it was once in production although briefly.

Second, Ableitung II would like to authorize Dundorfische Hoch Logistik to complete the 100 passenger aircraft prototype and if it checks out all right to purchase 25 of the aircraft called Ladungstransport B. The prototype can be completed and tested in six months and assuming everything is in order, production could begin in another six months with delivery of the 25 over the next 5 years.

Ableitung II raised the question of leaving off the lift engines since for our purposes they are unnecessary but rebalancing the design and redoing the prototype would cause considerable delay and s the original project is what is being considered. The final part of the prototype necessary is installing the rear loading ramp.

The Ladungstransport B is powered by two jet engines and has two lift engines for takeoff when and if that option is employed. Cruising speed is 900 kilometers/hour. It has a length of 35.55 meters and a wingspan of 26 meters. It has cantilevered swept wings and a T-tail.

Zlatenico Oko has learned that on recommendation of NVR, the Defense Ministry has approved the purchase.

Defense Minister Paul v. Stulpnagel

ARTILLERY PLAN

Defense Ministry, July 21, 5374: The Bundeswehr’s Heer has been converting from a company – regimental - division organizational structure to a company - battalion – brigade organizational structure although maintaining its eight divisions with each division having from two to three brigades. This change has the full support of the Defence Ministry and the National Defence Council

Two changes are being made in the process. First, all armor is now in the 5th Division which has enough tanks and mechanized infantry to form a Panzer Division. The other seven divisions remain motorized infantry divisions. The Oberkommando der Heer (OKH) is considering creating some air cavalry, paratrooper, mountain or commando units most likely in the 1st Division.

Second, OKH is concentrating its self propelled artillery and rocket artillery authorized to be purchased by the Bundestag in the 5th Division and replacing our existing FE Langewaffe’s produced by Fuchstal Elektrik first in the 5th Division and then in the 1st Division. Some of our self propelled guns were purchased from the Dorvish military contractor Thiel – Hassel and some from Fuchstal Elektrik. Anti air defense systems and mortars will remain with each division.

Fuchstal Elektrik’s FE Langewaffe is a towed howitzer whose barrel length is 6.022 meters and whose caliber is 155 mm. It fires a standard high explosive shell weighing 43.4 kilograms loaded by a semi automatic vertically sliding block and an automatic loader.

The FE Langewaffe has a muzzle velocity of up to 827 meters per second and a maximum range of 24.7 kilometers. The sights have quadrant elevation scale and levelling bubbles for its periscopic sight and its direct fire telescope.

DB purchases new Regional-service train
Dundorfische Bahn has purchased the new "Linnert IV" train manifactured by DUT

Image
Dundorfische Bahn's REGIO in Oberegg-Ost Bahnhof
August 5374

OBEREGG, DUNLAKE - Rail travelers this morning in Dundorf woke up to see, and ride the newest addition to the DB (Dundorfische Bahn, state railways operator): the Linnert IV train, a multiple unit railcar manufactured by DUT (Dundorische Umzugstechnologien). As well as the other DB regional trains the Linnert IV's color is the red, its cars are 16 meters long, with the front and end cabin cars being long 20. The composition of the train is 2 end cars and 4 cars, for a total length of 104 meters, and each car is capable to transport as much as 60 sitting passengers, so the new Regional trains will be able to transport as much as 360 passengers.

The maximum speed recorded in the post production trials is of 166 km/h, a little above the limit of 160 km/h set to travel in regional transport lines, a small improvement over the 150 km/h of maximum speed recorded by its predecessor, the Linnert III. A train ride from Nordenhaus to Oberegg, two cities at the opposites sides of Dunlake State, with 5 stops in between, will take 1 hour and 25 minutes, compared to the previous 1 hour and 33 minutes.
As well as its predecessor, Linnert IV is an electric train alimentated through the pantograph attached to the 15 kV  16+2⁄3 Hz AC overhead catenary.

DB overall is expecting to cut travel times by around 3 to 6%, an improvement that customers already experienced this morning while there will be no changes in the fare prices, that will remain at 0.10 Marks per Kilometer. The state railway company bought 33 trains that will enter in service this year, and another 40 are project to be bought next year, the company's objective is to replace current trains by 5377, a three-year-long project.
I like the new trains, I hope the people will keep them tidy!
- Magdalena Heingler, 53, nurse

I heard they're faster, but not by that much.
- Leonard Kaiser, 39, P.E. Teacher

Eh...they're just trains I guess.
- Henrietta Schmitz, 22, Univeristy student

I love trains! Weihnachtsmann brought me one last December!

Emma Schumacher declared new leader of Linke Ökologen

Image
Emma Schumacher

Ahead of becoming Bundeskanzler, former President Emma Schumacher has been declared head of her party. It comes after Wilhelmine Althaus decided to retire to focus on spending time with her famiy after she achived "everything that a politician could dream to do". Althaus had stints in both leadership roles in the country and now Emma will as well.

The daughter of revered party leader Fritz Schumacher built a reputation for herself a environment minister in the Althaus and Reisinger cabinets. Under her watch the Oderveld wind turbine plant was constructed and Dundorf stayed on top of its climate goals. In the last parlaimentary session Schumacher Jr. acted as President and showed to all she can leader when the spotlight is on her.

Now that the leader will be in charge of a broad POD-DKU coalition she is looking at ways the government could unite the public and start work on some big projects. We will just have to wait and see how the Schumacher Jr. cabinet will govern.

Government announces Tukarali mining deal and new environmental regulations
The new Schumacher Jr. cabinet has announced that Dundorf and Tukarali will deepen ties relating the mining sector, while the new Left Ecologist leadership issues new guidelines to make the sector more sustainable.

in other news:
- New Bundestag reveals POD plurality, Schwarz-Rot coalition to continue under new Chancellor.

DUNBURG, ODERVELD - The Federal Foreign Office (Dundorfian: Auswärtiges Amt) revealed on Monday that the Dundorfian Federal Government, and the Tukarense Goverment have reached a deal on increased cooperation in the mining sector, which is very strong in both countries. The cooperation will be about formation, the two countries will exchange scientific, technological and mechanical information to help each other strengthening the sector, and it will be also about increased production among both, to further provide economical growth as well as new research on the field.
Dundorf began its mining operations decades ago, and it now accounts for a very important part of the GDP, estimated to be around 8 and 10% and among top mined products are worth of mention uranium, used in the domestic energy market and for exports, diamonds, silver, sulfurs and silicon, vital for our nation's tech sector.

This isn't easy for the new Chancellor, Ms. Emma Schumacher, a member of the Left Ecologists, who approved the plan but has requested additional environmental provisions to be added to compensate the added pollution this deal will bring, with the purpose judjed by many to be common-sense, to balance environmental protection with economic interests.
These new provisions are not only limited to the mining industry, but to all the highly polluting industries, and in the specific: industries will have to replace every tree cutted down for their operations, mining operators will have to plant two trees for every tree chopped off while every industry will receive subsidies from the Federal Government if they will enact plans to reintroduce satisfactory levels of biodiversity.
The Federal Government until now already had a tree plantation plan to curb pollution, a plan enacted decades ago. Ecologists are mildly happy with this new plan, even though they would prefer a total conversion of the economy into a 'green' one, which inevitabily requires to drop the mining industries, on the other hand, miners are happy with the plan.

ODERVELD - LEUCHTFEUER

ARMED DRONES?

Defense Ministry, August 22, 5375: Several months ago Defense Minister Paul v. Stulpnagel met with executives of Grosvic Unbemanntes Fluggerat (GUF) and Gebirgsmunition. The former has furnished reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles to Deltarska Republika for many years first to its postal service then its border guards (the former Grewa) then the Bundespolizei and the Heer. The latter is a prominent munitions maker.

The Defense Minister asked if together they could produce a well armed drone and build a prototype. Asked if the law allowed that, he told them producing them was legal but current law did not allow their use by the military. If they produced a protype that was serviceable at Defense Ministry expense, he would introduce legislation to allow their use and if it passes begin equipping our military with them. Selling abroad may be possible as well.

ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER has learned that they have in fact done so. The prototype of this joint venture, called the GUF 200, is an intelligent weapons system consisting of 16 aerial vehicles hosed in four launch, transport and storage containers (LTSC) featuring ground service equipment and modular ground control stations. The LTSC’s are transportable by truck or air.

The GUF 200 can autonomously search for classify, identify, and engage targets. Engaging targets can be set to require human authorization Targets may be mobile or stationary and armored or unarmored; they include tanks, artillery, command posts and radar. It can perform a full circle mameuver to gather views of targets at all angles.

The GUF 200 is fairly small with a wingspan of 2.6 meters and a length of 2.3 meters. It is made of multi spectral stealth material which reduce its signature, reduce the thermal signature of its exhaust and lower its detectable sound. It can navigate autonomously over any terrain using a global positioning system, an inertial navigation system and terrain matching techniques.

The GUF 200 has a cross wing design configuration provides precise maneuverability even in very steep dives at a target. The engine is a single kerosene fueled four piston engine and a four bladed wooden propeller. The low fuel consumption allows it to stay airborne for up to 4 hours with a range of 200 kilometers at a median speed of 180 kilometers per hour. The aerial vehicles are launched from the LTSC’s by booster rocket.

The GUF 200 does a final very steep plunge to the target at about 500 kilometers per hour. The 200 kilogram warhead will be precisely initiated to allow for penetration of armored targets to a desired depth. A radial blast of shrapnel can be initiated as well.

The protypes of the GUF 200 built by GUF and Gebirgsmumition have undergone trials to determine performance levels and are ready for production.

ODERVELD - LEUCHTFEUER

MLRS TO MODERNIZE?

Defense Ministry, April 22, 5376: The legislation regulating the size of the military includes authorization for purchase and use of multiple rocket launch artillery systems (MLRS). For many years the bulk of our MLRS units have been the FE Schnellreparaturraketen made by Fuchstal Elektrik, the principal Dudorfishe gunnery contractor.

The FE Schnellreparaturraketen was designed for rapid concentration of fire on a designated target and it has proved serviceable in that regard for many years. The Oberkommando der Heer (OKH) has been discussing whether a more modern MLRS might at some point become available. Defense Minister Paul v. Stulpnagel has indicated OKH should look into possibilities both in the Bundesrepublik and abroad.

In the meantime the FE Schnellreparaturraketen remains in service in several divisions. The FE Schnellreparaturraketen is vehicle mounted on lightly armored trucks. 36 rocket launchers are in two clusters of 18 holding 110 mm rockets handled by a crew of three. The shell is 2.26 meters long and weighs 35 kilograms. The 36 rockets can all be fired in 18 seconds with a muzzle velocity of 640 meters per second and a maximum firing range of 14 kilometers.

The MLRS itself is lightly armored with aluminum. There is secondary armament of a roof mounted machine gun. The truck has a wheeled 6 x 6 chassis and an 8 cylinder muti fueled engine that can reach a speed of 78 kilometers per hour with operational range of 500 kilometers.

DUNBURG, ODERVELD - Leadership of both the Linke Okologen and the Sozialdemokratische Partei, the two parties forming the progressive and center-left electoral alliance "POD" (acronym for Progressive and Open Dundorf), announced on Friday that the alliance's candidate for Federal President in next December's elections will be the young Minister-President for Chontalen, Mr. Jonas Sternberg. This year's representation of the alliance in a Presidential contest will be then entrusted to the DSDP, which hasn't had hold the office of the Federal President since 5349, year when Fmr. President Tim Adelberg and the whole party got a resounding defeat.

Sternberg belongs to the more moderate wing of the DSDP, which is the "Liberal-Socialist", and is the youngest ever serving Minister-President in the State of Chontalen, elected three years ago thanks to a POD-TL regional agreement. The national leadership of the DSDP, which adheres to the "Progressive" wing, the most left-wing one, said they chose to put forward Mr. Sternberg as candidate to strengthen the Party's unity and cohesion, Federal Secretary Lukas Söder-Kerekes said in fact that his Secretariat's mission is to create a consensual internal democracy, without alienating the minority, which happens to be the more moderate Lib-Soc wing.

Secretary Söder-Kerekes also announced that DSDP would finally move their outdated Party HQ from Nordenhaus, the former D.D.R. capital, to Dunburg, the current Bundesrepublik's capital city, in a recently built palace named after the first Secretary of the Party, Former Chancellor Nicholas Bauer.
