Selucian Embassy condenms the attack to the WC

Cynthia Amphion, Selucian Ambassador to the World Congress, has called for an urgent meeting of the Selucian delegation after the news coming from Istalia and Badara, where a terrorist attack has left several deaths and wounded people, including the leaders of Istalia and high representatives of Badara on the World Congress offices located in Istalia. The attack, carried out during the negotiations in Badara where Istalia was acting as intermediator, has surprised all nations in Terra.

Selucia strongly condemns this attack and sends its deepest condolences to those families that have lost someone in this terrible attack. Terrorism must be stopped.
We will not fight hatred with hatred, but it is clear that those actions will not go unpunished. This is an attack to all the nations in Terra. The World Congress and its members are the representatives of all nations that want to improve the Terran lifes with dialogue and resolutions, and this attack shows nothing but the dark side of humanity. Selucian embassy in Badara is ready to protect Istalian and Badaran citizens that ask for help, and will be brought to Selucia as soon as the Foreign Minister autorizes it. We also call all Selucian citizens to come back to the embassy or leave the nation as soon as possible. The Government is doing everything it can.

Chief of the Selucian National Intelligence agency has been reported increasing the security in Selucian embassies and the selucian World Congress office.

UPDATE: Caesar Senatus Cassius Vestinus has authorised the imminent repatriation of all Selucians in Badara as well as the protection in Selucia of all citizens that request so, under the label of "war refugees", and the sending of humanitarian aid to Badara.

Consul Populi Arria Ivmarus has announced the prolongation of the Menace Level 4 in Selucia until conflicts are solved.

Caesar Senatus Blasts Consul Populi, In Marea For "Absurd Scare Tactics"

In a speech made to the Senate today, Caesar Senatus Cassius Vestinus lambasted the reaction by Consul Populi Ivmarus and Ambassador Amphion (to the World Congress) over perceived threats to Selucian sovereignty. The speech was made public and broadcast to a television audience.

Senators,

I advise the honorable Consul Populi and Ambassador Amphion, as well as everyone latching on to this wave of anxiety to please gather themselves, as this overreaction will make us look foolish in the eyes of other nations.

Let's look at what we have here. From the transcripts of the World Congress General Assembly, it appears Aldegar's throne is currently occupied by a pompous lunatic, and nothing more than that. They have not mobilized any troops, they have not put any plans into motion, they have simply expressed some vague dream from a monarch who has been on the throne too long to have any firm grasp of reality. I must note my concern that while many of the other nations' ambassadors were able to treat this like the joke it is and not demean themselves with a response, our Ambassador Amphion, hopefully not in coordination with the Consul, has made a formal incident out of what should have been something to laugh at and move on. We know that Selucia is the greatest country on Terra, and the opinions of the Aldegarian monarch are beneath us, and certainly should not be used to justify reports of an "imminent threat" at this point.

Next, regarding Vanuku. First of all, we would like to stress to the Senate and to the Consul that the current regime is being deposed by leftist movements that have taken control of the country ( http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill. ... lid=531577 ), leftist movements that will be, by all appearances, more isolationist and pacifist in nature (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill. ... lid=531578) . Second of all, there has been no indication that Vanuku has any intention of "[conquering] Majatra any way they can". The only reference I could find to such a claim was from a new fringe party that does not even have any seats in the Vanukean legislature, who expressed the same vague wish. If the honorable Consul Populi is referring to different information, I would then question why it has not been shared with the ministers responsible for making military decisions, including myself.

What appears to be happening here is an attempt from In Marea to confuse the good citizens of Selucia with reports of an "imminent threat" that does not exist. They want to use fear to boost their voting numbers and to distract people from the threats at home that they have refused to deal with, such as moral degeneration in our society, the fall of faith, and over-regulation of the economy by the government, putting businesses and millions of taxpayers in tough positions. The Factio Agricolae brings up a good point, and we are completely in favor of an increased military budget. It is one of the promises we ran on, and we need to accomplish it in the coming term because of tense situations around the globe. But these are absurd scare tactics, and the Legionem Nationis will refuse to abide by them. I encourage every other member of the Senate to do the same.

Selucia will not deploy the Navy. I encourage each Selucian not to buy into this madness and to remember this moment when they are voting for the next Consul, and truly think about who they want to present Selucia to the rest of the world. I implore Consul Populi Ivmarus to reduce the emergency level back to normal level immediately and drop this nonsense, or a vote of no confidence in her leadership will seriously need to be considered.

While the Consul Populi has already agreed to drop the emergency level as per the Caesar Senatus's request, a great amount of tension has been created between parties who already had a significant rivalry, and strong language traded by both sides. This divide is noticeable in the ever separating portions of the population as well, with Legionem Nationis supporters engaging in mockery of the Consul Populi and In Marea supporters spewing the same sorts of criticism against the Caesar Senatus, albeit to a lesser extent. A silver lining of political agreement in a storm cloud of partisan disagreement, though - both parties strongly agreed with the necessity of increasing the nation's military budget. If nothing else, it is a sign that compromise is still possible, even in the most divided of times.

Arria Ivmarus starts talks with other nations and talks about the political spectrum in Selucia


Consul Populi Arria Ivmarus in the Senate

This afternoon Consul Populi Seluciae Arria Ivmarus has appeared in the Selucian Senate to talk about the recently created Selucian Official Diplomatic Treaty, which will officially stablish de new Selucian embassies all around Terra.

This is a step in the right direction. Until today, we have embassies and formal relationships with other nations, but those relationships were not clearly defined.
With this Treaty, it becomes clear that the signers commit to solve issues between both nations through diplomacy and political discussion, and shall do whatever possible to protect and ensure that diplomatic bodies represented in their nations are protected, and in case of impossibilty, they shall inform the diplomatic bodies of immediate or previsible danger. I want to thank the nations of Dorvik, Gaduridos, New Endralon-Kizenia, Malivia and Trigunia for their speed in signing the treaty, and also the nations of Yingdala, Pontesia Seluciana, Istalia, Jelbania, Dolgavia, Alduria, Badara, Jakania and Cildania for starting to negotiate the treaty in their national parliaments. We hope that more nations will join the treaty soon, but at the moment, with just less than a year alive, this treaty is nothing but a victory for Selucia and its international relations.

As an special mention, I want to thank Legionem Nationis, and Factio Agricolae for their support to the treaty ratification in our own nation. We have very different points of view when it comes to a lot of political issues, including international relationships, but they have understood that this treaty is no more than stablishing formal and friendly relations with the Terran nations, to create an space free of violence and open to the dialogue, a treaty that does not compromise the national jobs or national economy.

However, after those words, the Consul Populi adopted a more aggressive tone.

Selucian security is not a game, and its better to prevent than to regret. After formal threats and the terrorist attack in Istalia, it became clear than national security may be at risk, and this implied to have the national security bodies in alert. It is clear that the Honorable Caesar Senatus Cassius Vestinus does not see it in the same way.

The two major parties in the Senate, both In Marea-Civis Sinistram and Legionem Nationis, are almost in the antipodes in their political ideologies, and IM-CS orator, Artemio Liberus, has added more wood to the fire after saying that

I cannot really understand. Selucian citizens supported the most leftist candidate in the Head of State elections, while choosing to give a parliamentary majority to the conservative parties. The only reason that comes to my mind is that they prefer an internationalist and progressist leader to represent them in official meetings and international affairs, while advocating for their nationalist spirit and electing a more isolationist government.

With the things going that way, in a year new elections will be called in Selucia, and this will be where all the political parties will see how citizens have valorated their job.

Alinar Balkian speech drives Progressive Rally

In an address to the nation Alinar Balkian founder and front runner, for the new offices that will be opening soon once a new Constitution is created bringing an end to the Monarch rule and created a Republic, noted that the people had spoken and that the time for change was now.

"The people have spoken...and the time for change is now. No longer will we be bound by dictators or monarchs, but instead we will bound to one another unified by our desire for self governance. The people have grown tired of big government, the people have grown tired of oppressive monarchs that take from the prosperity of the people. In these times of change we must stand firm, we must stand resolute, and we must remain dedicated to the cause of the people. Today we begin the construction of our new home, our new nation, our new identity. May the people of this nation prosper, may they find happiness and may justice and freedom reign in our time. Thank you."

The SPP led a non-violent uprising in over the past year to end the draconian Monarchy and bring about change establishing a Republic led and governed by the people. The move would give more autonomy to States and local governments while maintain certain universal laws enacted and enforced by the National Government.


Military pledges to serve the new Government and the people

In a ceremony held at the Capital Building the military officers and pledged the loyalty of their troops and themselves to the new government as well as to the people. The current government led by the SPP has stated they do not intend to make any changes to the current set up or current staffing of any posts within the Armed Services.

"We are confident that the military will protect the people and the new government and see no reason to make any changes at this time that could cause problems with our ability to defend our nation."

There is a Military Parade in the works for the coming year to be held at the Capital.

1st Congressional Meeting held in capital

Marking the 1st Congressional Meeting since the removal of the Monarchy from the nation of Seluciana the found of the SPP, Alinar Balkin along with the members that make up the elected members of Congress and the Cabinet members met for the first time in the capital building to discuss the formation and creation of the new Constitution for the nation. The first order of business was to add the first Article which would legally change the name of the nation from its current name to the Sovereign Republic of Seluciana. The article was quickly voted in and placed on the Constitution and soon other Administrative changes were added such as the creation of the office of President as Head of State, the naming of the Head of Government as Vice President, the changing of the current legislative body name to the Seluciana Congress as well as several other Administrative Laws.

Limited in the number of proposals at this time the 1st SRS Congress ended only a few hours after it started, but stated it would return the following day to start again in the hopes of drafting new policy for the nation.


Military Deployed to capital and other industrial areas

The Seluciana National Military was deployed to the capital and several key industrial areas after intelligence officials received word that there could be possible attacks against several industrial plants and factories as well as a possible attack against the 1st Congress. The threats were made by a small group within the nation that calls themselves the "Royal Arbiters of the Holy Order". The group has pledged itself to the former Monarchy of the nation and have stated that they would not accept the rule of the current SPP.

The group has yet to actually follow through with any of the threats made ranging from car bombings, random acts of violence, to attacking officials and their family. Intelligence officials have stated they are actively seeking out members of the terror cell and attempting to round them up prior to any attacks.

Legionem Nationis Remains Largest Party, Claims Consul Populi From In Marea

Tiberius Varro, now one of the most powerful men in Selucia, leads both the largest party and the nation's foreign policy

In the recent elections, the Legionem Nationis has lost seats but remained the largest party in the Senate, as well as claiming the office of Consul Populi for Coetus Dux Tiberius Varro in the second round. Consul Varro, in interviews, has said that if elected to the position that he would step down from official leadership from the party but would continue to act as the "overall director" for where the party should head. Internal elections are being held inside the party to determine the next Party Chairman, and by extension Coetus Dux.

Consul Varro gave a brief overview of what his administration will offer:

I think it's clear from the results of this election that the Selucian people are tired of the left's brand of interventionist and overreactionist foreign policy. I'm glad that many Selucians were rightfully wary enough of In Marea after the "emergency" fiasco a couple years ago that made us the laughing stock of Terra, and I can promise that we will be far from that. I intend to immediately start sacking every high ranking official in my department that is associated with the previous administration. There will be a new policy that will govern our affairs, and that will be Selucia First. Not Istalia, not the absolute mess that is the World Congress.

Varro also applauded the Legionem Nationis for it's legislative accomplishments in the previous term and said, briefly : "there's more where that came from."

Generals meet to discuss future plans

Alinar Balkin founder of the SPP and President Elect has met with the nations General to discuss future development of the military forces within the nation. After the changing of the tax codes which saw a large increase in the ability of the government to increase spending the military gained a great deal more funds to help upgrade its current forces and develop new units as well. The Generals agreed that development of the Armed Forces and other branches of the military had hit a standstill in recent years but they were optimistic about the future.

The Seluciana Army has been issued the following directives:
- Upgrade and Retrain all current standing forces.
- Work with Private Development Team to create and upgrade all Main Battle Tanks and Light Armored Vehicles
- Work with Private Development Team to create and upgrade all Artillery and research and develop NLOS Systems.
- Work with other nations in development of new military standards.

The Seluciana Air Force has been issued the following directives:
- Upgrade all current aircraft
- Work with Private Development Team to create and upgrade all Fighters/Multi-Role/Bombers
- Work with Private Development Team to create and upgrade new AWACS/Strategic Strike Aircraft
- Increase amount of Air Bases in the country.

The Seluciana Navy has been issued the following directives:
- Upgrade all current ships
- Work with Private Development Team to create new ship designs
- Work to upgrade and create better Radar and Guidance systems
- Work to develop Anti-Missile Technology for use onboard ships
- Work to develop better Submarines

The discussions also called for the Development and Deployment of a new state of the art Anti-Missile Defense Shield and the creation of and a new branch called the (Seluciana Missile Command) which is dedicated to the advancement of anti-missile systems, development of ICBM's and Cruise Missiles both Conventional and Nuclear.

New call to return to former National Name

A grassroots movement has campaigned recently to have the name of the nation returned to its former name of Pontesia. The matter has reached the desk of the President Elect and has started a movement within the party not only to change the nation name back to the original pretext but to change the party name to suit the growing grassroots movement.

"The current SPP was put into office to serve the people of the nation and that is exactly what we intend to do. If the people wish to return to an older name for the nation then we will support that transition any way we possible can." stated Alinar Balkin President Elect.

The SPP is currently holding discussions about the change as well as the fact that a former bill would change the name to the Sovereign Republic of Seluciana, the bill would then have to be overrode with another vote changing the name to the Sovereign Republic of Pontesia.

Apollo Volturcius: "We didn't expect those results"

4251 Selucian elections have been held, and citizens have given their confidence in Legionem Nationis, which won both the legislative and the presidential elections.

We certainly did not see that coming. We were not ready. We will have to check why almost 10 million citizens decided to take their vote from us to give it to other parties, but we will continue defending the ideas more than 13 million selucians have supported with their votes. We thank Arria Ivmarus the great job done during her term as Consul Populi, specially the Selucian international treaty that currently 18 nations have ratified, and 4 more are on their way, making it one of the most successful selucian treaties. We will do our duty as Leader of the Opposition, working hard for the rights of those Selucian that the current Government does not recognize. It will be constructive, obviously, but we will not allow Legionem Nationis to create distinctions between any Selucian. They claim "Selucia first", but I would say their anthem is "the rich straight male religious selucians first!" Legionem Nationis has achieved the best result for a far-right party in Selucia ever, and we will have to see why has this happened in a nation that used to be the most open-minded and tolerant of Terra.

We are certainly affected about the loss of confidence citizens have shown about us, but this only give us more strenght to build a stronger party that the greatest amount of citizens can identify with.

Consul Varro Not Seeking Further Political Career


Consul Populi Varro today in a rally for party members and supporters announced today that he will be "leaving the Selucian political scene" after his term as Consul is over, to "pursue other things". This comes as a great surprise, seeing as he is only 37 years old and has always displayed outstanding health and energy as he has officially and unofficially led the party since its conception. Indeed, Consul Varro stepped down from his position as Party Chairman upon his elction to Consul, but sources within the Party have been clear that "Clodian may be Chairman, but he is the man in charge."

Despite this sentiment, some suspect that the party he founded has now turned against him in a power struggle that has been kept hidden from the media. With the Legionem Nationis' latest push for the reestablishment of the office of Imperator (a push now presumed that the Senate will pass), as an elected monarch over the nation, Mr. Varro has not only decided to retire in his prime when a direct path to more power was open, but has not given any comment on either way. Critics have used this to speculate that Consul Varro was an anti-monarchist whose party abandoned him, or that other party officials forced him out, possibly with threats of blackmail. Party Chairman Clodian spoke on these speculations:

*laughs*..This is simply ridiculous. We have followed this man for almost a decade now, and we all respect him very much. I know I speak for everyone in the party when I say that we are very sorry to see him go, but we respect his decision, and we wish him all the best as he continues to be a model Selucian and an asset to his country.

Whatever the case may be, Coetus Dux and Party Chairman Lucius Clodian is expected not only to be a more direct influence over the Senate but also, with Caesar Senatus Vestinius declaring his intention to remain in the office for "as long as he can", to be the party's presumed nominee for Consul Populi and Imperator.
