During these months, the Selucian senate has been debating the restoration of the figure of 'Imperator', which would take the nation back to a monarchist system, with the new Head of State being able to name the Praetors (provincial governors) for 10 years terms, and directing the major politics of the nation.

The current political spectrum in Selucia is divided. While the four parties fighting for their space from the center to the right-wing Legionem Nationis, Partis Nationalisti, Factio Fortuna and Factio Agricolae have supported the bills regarding the return of the Imperator and the figures of the Praetors, the only left-wing party In Marea-Civis Sinistram has announced the beggining of a fierce battle.

We were in this nation before any other current political party. We have been fighting for human rights and democracy in Selucia since 4098, when we were founded to defeat the right-wing party that had leaded our nation to shame. Our former Secretary Aelius Celer, former Caesar Senatus (Head of Government) from 4136 to 4163 banned the position of Dictator, similar to what those parties want to put back in Selucia. We will not tolerate such an attack to democracy.
Has been the words of the Secretary Apollo Volturcius, who will call for an emergency cabinet of his party immediately after the bill is approved. With the only opposition of In Marea, it will happen at the end of this year.

Former Selucian Ambassador to the World Congress Cynthia Amphion has had harder words, claiming that Selucia "has lost the North"

Monarchism is something of the middle ages. We are in the 43rd century. I thought at that time, people would know the bad a monarchist system would make to Selucia, but it seems it is not the case.

Current Leader of In Marea and former Consul Populi-Head of State-Arria Ivmarus, has also spoken with us:

I cannot believe this is going to happen. Are we seriously going to take power from the people? Monarchy is something to should, and if it is restored, will be, abolished at the exact moment that our party reaches the Government. People has the right to choose who do they want to lead them. It is unfair to say our young people "here you have, your HoS. You have not chosen him or her, but your parents or grandparents did, so you just have to carry on with it". We have to let people speak in the elections, as that is how democracy work. December, when the law will be probably approved, will be a black month for our nation if we can't stop it.

Asked by the current situation the Governing party is suffering, with the announcement of Consul Varro leaving the political scene, she has stated:

I have a lot of differences with him, but for sure I appreciate his way to talk and say his political ideas, in a calm and reasonable way"

Talking about the rumours of his anti-monarchism:

Well, he is free to join us *laughs* I expected more from him is that's true, to be honest. We should fight for what we believe is good

In Marea-Civis Sinistram hereby formally announces that it will start as soon as the office of Imperator is created, a fight to give back the power to Selucians and restore the Consul Populi system

Selucia Now

The Government loses its majority in the Senate before introducing major changes.

Nothing changes, but everything changes. Early today elections have been held in Selucia, resulting in a new victory for Legionem Nationis, and the rest of political parties landing in the same positions: In Marea-Civis Sinistram as second force, Partis Imperialis --coalition partner-- as third, and Factio Fortuna and Factio Agricolae as fourth and fifth forces. However, the numbers have changed, giving the current government coalition a total of 247 seats (174 from Legionem Nationis, which loses 20 seats, and 73 from Partis Imperialis, which remains with the same amount of seats), and the main opposition force, In Marea, 25 more seats, climbing up to 126 seats in the Camera. Factio Fortuna and Factio Agricolae have lost 3 and 2 seats respectively.

That means the current Government coalition has lost its majority (251 seats needed) due to the loss of votes from Legionem Nationis.

These results also mean that some of the bills Legionem Nationis was about to approve, including the stablishment of the Imperator, may now be turned down by the opposition parties if they agree. However, that is doubtful to happen as Factio Fortuna and Factio Agricolae have previously agreed with the likely future Head of State figure.

Legionem Nationis has lost 20 seats, and 5 more come from Factio Fortuna and Factio Agricolae. All those seats have come to In Marea-Civis Sinistram, and I dont think it has been because our ideologies, specially those from LN. I think the majority party has lost all those votes due to its intention of restore something from the Middle Ages and not from the 43rd century, and Selucians have seen that In Marea-Civis Sinistram is the only party that will oppose to the figure of Imperator. We have been very clear on this issue. Our party Leader Arria Ivmarus is our candidate for this position, but we have a totally different purpose. In case she wins-which seems very unlikely-according to our ideology, it would be interpreted like citizens disagree with the new position, as they would know our opinion about it, and we will have the control of the office until someone from our party reaches the government and both figures can work together in removing this monarchy.

has announced the party Secretary, Apollo Volturcius.

Parties are now also announcing the name of their Praetors, appointed by the authority of Consul Populi Tiberius Varro until, unless otherwise removed from office, November of 4264. Praetors will be the new leaders of the regions, appointed for a 10 year period by the Consul Populi. At the moment, the following Praetors have been announced:
Kal Serathi: Partis Imperialis, Publius Varinius
East Shadar: In Marea-Civis Sinistram, Nike Domitia
Uleroth: Factio Fortuna, Julianus Seneca

In Marea has also announced intentions of removing the office of Praetors if it does not work well, and go back to the old system where Governors of the Regions were chosen from the party that won the most amount of seats in each region, a system they see "far more fair".

Selucia Now

New legislature about to start.

Almost a year since the last elections, a new cabinet in Selucia is about to be confirmed, with Legionem Nationis, Partis Imperialis and Factio Fortuna agreeing a new government coalition.

The previous cabinet, conformed by Legionem Nationis and Partis Imperialis, fell short in these elections, requiring 4 more seats to get the simple majority. Factio Fortuna, with 67 senators, will give stability to this new government. The most important change will be the Head of Government, as it will be given to Factio Fortuna as a reward for its support.

This means the only left-wing party and second most voted, In Marea-Civis Sinistram, will remain in the opposition, and Apollo Volturcius will be the Dux En Contra once more.

In Marea, which tried to form an alternative government coalition with Factio Agricolae and Factio Fortuna, received this morning a message from Factio Fortuna announcing that they had decided to support the LN-PI coalition instead of the one offered. This has lead some leaders of In Marea to anger, some of them citing the "lack of political compromise of Factio Fortuna".

We surely did not expected this. We had formal talks with Factio Agricolae, which were ready to collaborate with us in a progressist cabinet, but conversations with Factio Fortuna were a bit harder. However, we made it, and a cabinet was agreed. And now, a few months later, we are told that they have decided to withdraw from our accord andd support the current conservative government. They are free to support whoever they want, but that is not the way. We do not blame them, however. They have been offered the position of Caesar Senatus, and we understand that's a juicy offer. However, we want to tell them our refrain: "Being loyal to the ideas, not to the institutions". If the idology of Factio Fortuna is right with what Legionem Nationis and Partis Nationalisti are doing in Selucia, then we have nothing to say, except good luck in the new government. If not, we can't help but wonder why they have decided to ignore they ideology just to pursue some political positions.

has said Publius Scipionis, orator of In Marea-Civis Sinistram.

This legislature will be really important, as one of the main goals of the Government is to restore the monarchy in Selucia in the figure of Lucius Clodian, current Consul Populi and member of Legionem Nationis. With the votes in favour of his own party, Partis Imperialis and some senators from Factio Fortuna, the Senate has approved the restoration of that figure. In Marea has been the only party clearly opposed to this, and some of its members have called for a citizens referendum instead.

Such a huge decision on our Head of State should not be decided only by the Senate. Citizens should have their say in this issue, as imposing them a figure for life is not something we can agree with.

In Marea-Civis Sinistram is the only republican party in Selucia, and the second most voted party in the nation. It's former secretary Aelius Celer banned the office of Dictator, although was already in desuse, which was an equivalent to the new office of Imperator.

We will do our job as responsible and useful opposition working towards Selucian, but one of our new main priorities will be to revoke this shameful office from Selucia. The citizen Lucius Clodian --members of the party have refused to call him by his Imperator name-- may see its reign last less thata he thinks.
has stated Apollo Volturcius, current Dux En Contra, Secretary of In Marea-Civis Sinistram and one of the most leftist members of the party.

Selucia Now

TERRORIST ATTACK IN KORGANA CAUSES 45 DEAD AND 147 WOUNDED.

A van has exploded in the centric square of Saturnium Square, a common touristic place in Auroria.

The SAEGON hit yesterday the heart of Auroria and left 45 dead and more than 100 wounded in the worst terrorist attack Selucia has suffered in centuries. At 16.40, a van entered in the center of the Saturnium Square in Auroria, full of locals and tourist at the moment. The author of the attack is in an unknown place.

The SAEGON has just assumed the attack. The main streets were evacuated while police where looking for the authors of the attack.

Twenty minutes before five o'clock in the afternoon, a black van jumped into the crowd in the main square of Auroria, the Saturnium Square, where traffic is banned. At that time, it was full of people, specially tourists. The vehicle rolled up more than a hundred citizens at an "important speed", explained the head of the Korganan police.

The driver went for more than two minutes before leaving the van and run. Korganan police is searching for him since then.

The attack left dozens of inert bodies in the Square and provoked pannic scenes. "We've seen cyclists in the air, people in the air...It has been horrible" has said Maurizio Vercamm, an Istalian tourist that saw all the attack.

The final result, is of 45 deads and 147 wounded. Wounded citizens has been taken to different hospitals of the city. While authorities told people to remain secure in their houses, lots of them decided to go out and try to help or to donate blood.

While waiting for formal declarations from the central Government, In Marea-Civis Sinistram has already expressed its opinion.

We are deeply affected to announce that Mrs. Arria Ivmarus, leader of this party, former Consul Populi, and a great actress has died yesterday in this horrible terrorist attack. Our hearts and condolences are with her family as well as with the rest of families of the people who died yesterday in that inhumane attack. We strongly condenm this and put us to collaborate with the Government in matters of Security to assure that something like this will not happen again

However, In Marea-Civis Sinistram has also strongly critizised the Government for its action before and during the attack.

We are still waiting for some declarations, how is it possible?

In Marea-Civis Sinistram back "stronger than ever".

After its temporary dissolution following the killing of Arria Ivmarus, everything has changed in the party.

Early this morning Selucia was shocked with the news of In Marea-Civis Sinistram returning to the political scenario. The left-wing party decided to temporary retire from politics following the death of its leader and famous actress Arria Ivmarus in the Korgana Terrorist Attacks, which led to internal troubles in the party. Now those problems seem to be fixed, as the new spokesperson of the party, Apollo Volturcius, former Secretary, has announced its back to contest for the 4265 elections.

The party has come with a new logo, which, in the words of Mr. Volturcius,

We think the new logo fits better with what we want to share with the Selucians. The waves have been the symbol of our party since its foundation, representing a joint movement and also the link between our nation and the sea, while the arrow to the right represent a movement forward, always forward. The colour of the wave is the colour of our own party, while the colour of the arrow symbolizes the left-wing politics.

Image
The new logo of In Marea-Civis Sinistram

The party has also elected new Leader and General Secretary, in the figures of Spuria Vedrix and Jerzyr Laskaris.

ImageImage
Spuria Vedrix and Jerzyr Laskaris, the new leaders of the left-wing party.

We have come back stronger than ever. We couldn't left the progressist citizens without a reference party, and we have come back to fight. We have to restore civil rights taken away by previous Governments, and we have to fight against political inactivity that has been dominating the nation these last years. We also wil fight to abolish monarchism once more in Selucia, as we previously did back in the period of our foundation. We have so much work to do, but we won't rest until we finish it.
have been the words of Jerzyr Laskaris, General Secretary of the party. Mr. Laskaris, born in Uleroth from a Selucian and a Valruzian, has inherited his mother's cultural beliefs in civil rights, as seen in his words.

We have to give the people back the power to decide who they want to rule their nation. This is done by letting them choose their Head of State and Head of Government done in each elections. Monarchism is archaic and antidemocratic, and we will not rest until republicanism is back in Selucia.
has also stated Mrs. Vedrix, a woman with strong convictions.

We made a mistake by retiring without any left-wing force in the nation, but we are back and ready to recover the citizens confidence in us.

Big comeback for In Marea-Civis Sinistram in the 4265 elections.

Early this morning, the Electoral Comission announced the results of the 4265 elections, held in January after Partis Imperialis and Factio Fortuna, the ruling Government, decided to call for early elections due to In Marea's comeback.

The temporary retirement of In Marea-Civis Sinistram from politics left and empty space in the left, which suddenly saw that no party could represent them. However, in 4264 In Marea announced its comeback with a renewed logo, leadership and ideas, and surprised everyone.

This change seems to have benefited the party, which has achieved its best result in almost 20 years, getting 201 seats out of 500 and more than 40% of the popular vote. In second place finished Factio Fortuna, with 160 seats, and third place went to Partis Nationalisti, with 139 seats.

We are incredibly happy with this results. Of course we would have wanted an absolute majority, but we weren't expecting such a huge support from the population in our comeback. Thanks to everyone, we will work hard to assure you have not voted for anything.
has been the words of Spuria Vedrix, Leader of the party.

Image
Spuria Vedrix after the results.

We are working in the formation of a new Government that can give Selucia the changes the nation needs. We want to thank the current Government for hosting the elections before the given time so we could take part in political life once again earlier. We are also in talks with it to pass the most important bills for us: the health bill and the civil liberties bill, both of them will give our citizens more freedom.
has said Jerzyr Laskaris, Secretary of the party and candidate for Caesar de Senatum

It is early to say whether In Marea-Civis Sinistram will get the Head of Government once again after more than 50 years away of it, but this night has been without nay doubt a triumph against those who said that a left-wing party in Selucia had no future.

"Time to work!"

A new cabinet has been formed by the left-wing In Marea-Civis Sinistram (201 seats) and the center-right Factio Fortuna (160 seats) to give a new Government to Selucia.

Early today the announcement of a new Government has been made after the Senatus voted. With the votes in favour of In Marea-Civis Sinistram and Factio Fortuna and the abstention of Partis Imperialis, the new government has taken shape.

Image
Jerzyr Laskaris, new Caesar Senatus (Head of Government) of the Res Publica Seluciae

In Marea-Civis Sinistram, which received over 40% of the vote in the last elections, stated that they would attempt to form a coalition Government, as a government on their own was highly impossible. Whilst In Marea has worked in coalition with Partis Imperialis when the situation required it, the current political situation allowed the left-wing party to work with others.

Conversations with Factio Fortuna went fast and in less than a month, everything was tied to form the new Government, integrated by the following members:

Foreign Affairs (In Marea - Civis Sinistram): Alanus Iuvenlis
Internal Affairs (Factio Fortuna): Aulus Lucretius Megellus
Finance (Factio Fortuna): Augustus Tacticus
Defence (In Marea - Civis Sinistram): Stasimus Gordius
Justice (In Marea - Civis Sinistram): Juventia Pulcher
Infrastructure and Transport (Factio Fortuna): Tiberius Genucius Paulus
Health and Social Services (Factio Fortuna): Sextus Tullius Rufinus
Education and Culture (In Marea - Civis Sinistram): Tuccia Aquilius
Science and Technology (In Marea - Civis Sinistram): Vedia Severus
Food and Agriculture (Factio Fortuna): Appius Silanus
Environment and Tourism (In Marea - Civis Sinistram): Velia Dama
Trade and Industry (Factio Fortuna): Rupilia Primia

In his first speech as Head of Government of Selucia, Mr. Laskaris has cleared his intentions:

First of all, we will put an end to the political inactivity that has dominated Selucian politics in recent years. We will try to work hard with all the political parties in our nation to assure the best to our citizens, but we have to remind that the best is progressism.
Second, we will retake our international agenda. With the arrival of Legionem Nationis to the power first, and with the position of Partis Imperialis in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs later, the presence of Selucia in the international community has been almost fainted. The new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alanus Iuvenlis, has already named a new Selucian Ambassador to the World Congress, Mr. Cadmus Tavoularis, who I know will do a great job in representing our nation.
Third but not least, we will work hard to put an end to the Imperator era. Monarchy is something archaic. Citizens deserve the possibility to choose their Head of State,
and if they end don't liking the way they do things, the ability to change them democratically. A monarchy, even an elective one, puts in power someone (who usually has conservative views) for a long time, and if citizens disagree, it doesn't matter! They are above the good and the bad. But from now on, we will start working to get rid of monarchism in Selucia. At the end, don't we live in the Res Publica Seluciae?

Review: A year in Government

Caesar Senatus Jerzyr Laskaris reviews the achievements during this first year of coalition Government and talks about the problems Selucia may face.

Image
Head of Government Jerzyr Laskaris during the conference

This morning, Caesar Senatus Selucia, Jerzyr Laskaris, has given a conference to talk about what has been done by the Government in this year, as part of his Transparent Politics plan.

During the conference, Mr. Laskaris has also accepted questions by the media, and has given an answer to all of them.

We have achieved the right politics in matter of economy. We have decreased some taxes, we are negotiation a new expenditure bill, and we have adjusted the taxes from corporations and companies that provide vital neccesities to our citizens. However, there is still a lot of work to do. We still need to pass our civil liberties bills,
specially those regarding the rights of minorities. However, this is harder, as while the right-wing parties in Selucia are more centered than most in other nations, they are still mostly conservative, and we do not hold an absolute majority to pass those bills without their help. Therefore, we need to go step by step with this laws.
We had a compromise with our voters and we will do it,there is no need to worry, anyway.

When asked about the rumour about Selucia running for the Security Council Seat for Majatra, he hasn't give a clear answer, stating:

We currently support our partners from Istalia. We think they are doing a great job in the Security Council, and it's hard to think that, if we take the seat, that means they will have to quit. Istalia is doing a great job in politics, and if they do something wrong, we are not ashamed of telling our opinion to their own Government,
as we have done in other times and with other nations.

The media also asked about the current situation Majatra is living with the rise of the Thaller family all along Majatra, in nations such as Istalia, Deltaria, Kalopia, Barmenia and Danuku and even in other continents, such as the nation of Darnussia.

Selucia is one of the oldest democracies in Terra. And Selucian politics are based on the principles of respect. Despite different political views and ideologies,
Selucian citizens and political parties have shown, since a long time ago, that the most important rule to make a nation work is respect for the others, no matter geneder, race, religion, sexual orientation... and will to work together in what's better for all, not just for a majority. That's all I have to say.

At the end of the conference, he announced the plans for the next three years:

Now we have to appoint a new Magni Iudex for the Supremum Iudicatorium. We are also working on a new civil rights bill that will please Factio Fortuna or Partis Imperialis, to get it passed. Apart from that, a judicial and education reform are being prepared, followed by a foreign policy reform, and finally, we are preparing the reform of our constitution to eliminate the figure of the Imperator and the return of the Consuls.

When asked about joining the Majatran Alliance, he has been clear:

Selucia will remain as neutral as possible. We do not think the Majatran Alliance can bring us something different, and we like to keep our own voice and sovereignty in international matters. So no, the answer is no, we haven't even considered it for a bit, at least not at this time.

"More than half of our program is acomplished"

Prime Minister of Selucia talks about the new government's laws and the next objectives.

Image
Caesar Senatus of Selucia, Jerzyr Laskaris, with his Minister of Science and Technology Vedia Severus after the approval of the new spending bill.

Jerzyr Laskaris, Caesar Senatus of Selucia, has given today his speech about the last laws passed in the nation.

With almost a year left until new elections, now I can proudly say that more than half of our political program is acomplished. Economic, judicial and administrative laws have been passed thanks to the support of Factio Fortuna, Partis Imperialis or both of them. This shows that Selucian parties know how to work together when it is neccesary, specially in these governments to throw out the laws made by Legionem Nationis.

Military:

We have gone back to allow concientious objectors to be exempted to perform military service when it is required, and we have updated it to be require military service only in times of war, as our nation nees to be ready for what may come.

Health, religion, foreign policy and civil liberties:

Our laws in these matters have found the opposition of the right-wing parties. However, we will keep working to assure our citizens the most liberties we can give to them, so we hope after the next elections to hold a majority capable to make those changes.

Economics:

Taxes for those with low incomes have been reduced, while a new bracket has been added to reduce the impact of those with a certain range of salaries. We are also working on a restructuration of the money used in each field of the Government, pretending to increase our spent in Education, Culture, Science and Technology while reducing a bit from military and government.

Justice:

Gated communities now can only be set up by private sectors. It was nonsensical to allow the Government to set them, as a way to divide our society. Also,
now, all criminals or acccused by the justice will be offered legal representation, and if they refuse it they will have to pay for their own representative.

Education:

We have kept the National Curriculum, but we understand the neccessity of Provinciaes to teach their own regional policies. Also, tuition will be fully subsidized.
We hope this bill is approved at least by one more party.

Administrative:

We are proud to announce that nobility titles, while not forbidden, are no longer granted, and they do not have political nor any other special rights. This is a step back to remove the Imperator and return to the office of Consul Populi. We have also changed the electoral law, by adjusting the algorith to create a proportional one that will give a small advantage in elections to the regions with more population.

Selucia launches "ambitious project" to join Majatran nations together.

Today the initial idea of a Majatran continental Cup have been launched in a press conference.

Image
Tuccia Aquilius this afternoon

Minister of Education and Culture of Selucia, Tuccia Aquilius, has shown today what she has called "a project to bring the Majatran nations together".

Majatra has a long history of wars and enemies between its own nations. Luckily, in recent centuries tensions have decreased. Still, we think it's important to remind all the Majatran nations that we are all the same and that belong to the same race: the Terran. Because of that, we are creating the Majatran Championship Cup, or MCC, with the idea of developing a sane rivalry and a democratic competition between the Majatran nations, and to allow citizens of all along Majatra to join together, relax, and enjoy. We have contacted all the Majatran Football Federations to assure that this idea does not fall, and so far, the federations of Istalia, Jakania and Cildania are preparing the treaty ratification, along with Selucia, so there are already at least 4 nations to develop this game. We hope in the next months more nations join us, and that soon people will be enjoying the game of their national selections in their road to become the best football selection of Majatra
