Tubulus Steps Down, Tenāx To Be New CōnsulAfter several years at the national helm and decades at the helm of the movement that birthed the Selūcian National Party (FNS), Aulus Hostīlius Tubulus has announced his upcoming resignation as Cōnsul. Upon the announcement, the FNS party convention officially selected Opīter Praecilius Tenāx, a close ally and, according to some, the preferred successor of the outgoing Cōnsul, as new party leader and incoming head of government.
Tubulus began his public career as a scholar of sociology and history at the University of Aurōria who reached the national spotlight with a series of highly controversial essays and books that called for a radically conservative defense of traditional social and political customs rooted in the Selucian pagan religion, and often harshly attacked the destructive impact of Hosianism on the historical development of the Selucian nation. His religious, cultural and political movement, often referred to by adherents as the
Mōtus Pius (“Pious Movement”) in its early years, evolved into the Selucian National Party which Tubulus led through many years of fierce opposition to liberal governments, inspiring both fame and condemnation that brought it from political isolation as a small party to its eventual accession to power.
Opīter Praecilius Tenāx, the retiring Cōnsul’s successor, is a stark contrast to Tubulus’s stern, academic style: the young firebrand achieved national recognition as a member of the National Assembly through his charged populist rhetoric in the legislature and frequent direct engagement with the common people throughout the country, often broadcasted on social media. Unusual among the leaders of his party, Tenāx is of rural plebeian, rather than patrician, background. He is, however, a member of the “social nationalist” wing of the party, more culturally conservative and amenable to the social safety net than the “national liberals,” and thus more orthodox to Tubulus’ political philosophy. As such, though his more vulgar style initially caused some distance between the two, Tenāx soon became a strong ally of the party founder, who has since helped him on the way to leadership.
Upon his attainment of the party leadership, Tenāx named Sextus Aemilius Scaurus, an eminent member of the national liberal wing, Deputy Leader of the party. In addition, he successfully pushed through a motion officially declaring Tubulus “Father of the Movement”, and determined that the party’s policy institute be named in his honor.
