Paulus Arborae wins first edition of Aquilius Music Awards
The first edition of the Awards has seen reivindications from various sectors

Image
Paulus Arborae, first winner of the Aquilius Music Awards

Tonight, the first edition of the Aquilius Music Awards, created in 4354 by the Selucian Academy of Arts, has seen Paulus Arborae being crowned winner of the night, after receiving 3 prizes out of his 4 nominations.

The Oriensian singer, winner of the prizes for Artist, Video and Song, and nominated also for Album, took advantage of his speech to claim for more peace and for an improvement in the inversion of new artists, after being congratulated by the Selucian Minister of Education and Culture, Caia Andronicus.

Many thanks to all for this award that represents a lot for me, and symbolizes all the hard work that lies behind each artistic creation.

Thank you for having recognized the message that lies behind my song, which calls for the end of useless wars around the world, and look beyond borders and nationalities to find what unites us all.

Mr. Andronicus, I know the Government is working on improvements for artists, but that is not enough. We have to invest in new artists, in new creations, people shall know that Selucia is a nation where everyone can create freely and without any high cost.

Selucia praises the end of Deltarian conflict but distrusts its duration
The Selucian Caesar congratulates both sides but calls for a firm compromise.

Image

Selucian Caesar, Argos Loukas, has praised today the apparently end of the Deltarian ongoing crisis, after an agreement made by both parts in the conflict.

We have no say in what Deltaria does in its national politics, although the idea of creating a council made up of the Thaller family does not seem the most democratic thing, while also giving the power of "supreme court" to this body, and deciding on foreign affairs issues. We will hold further meetings with the official government of Deltaria and we hope this peace lasts for long, but sadly we don't have high expectations.

BREAKING Victoria to host Terran Olympics!
The Selucian city has been selected over four more contenders.

Earlier today the Terran Olympic commitee decided the host city for the 4360 Terran Olympics, and the winner was the city of Victoria, located in Insularia.

The candidature, launched by Insularian Praetor Ares Zervas with the support of the national government, was mainly based on the excellent climate of the island, the experience of its citizens and its government in creating massive sport events after hosting year after year the Selucian National Games, the freedom and education of its citizens and the quality of the infrastructures that will be used for the Olympics, with very little spend needed as most of them are already built and only some of them require changes.

Over the past months, the cities of Kaizhou (Indrala), Merenbürg (Narikaton), Haldor (Dorvik), Victoria (Selucia) and Skalm (Kazulia), made their bids to host the 4360 Terran Olympics, the first in over two centuries. The honour finally went to the city of Victoria, located in the coast of the region of Insularia, known for its technological industries and beautiful beaches.

Hosting the Olympics is such a great honour. We will be able to show the whole island to people all around Terra, and everyone will be able to appreciate the quality and experience of this land in hosting big events, while also enjoying other activities.
has said its praetor, Ares Zervas.
We now have a lot of time before the Olympics, but we should start preparing everything to make sure nothing fails and everything runs smoothly when the time comes. We have a compromise with all Terran nations participating.

When asked about the possible ban on some nations qualified as "undemocratic", the Praetor has been clear:
Athletes from all around Terra shall be given the opportunity to show their skills and what are they able to, no matter where they come from. So, everyone is invited to come and everyone is invited to participate if their nations decide so. We are very impatient to have all of them here!

The Praetor has also presented the official logo for the 4360 Olympics, as showed below.

Image
Logo of the 4360 Terran Olympics

The logo features traditional Selucian items while also showing diversity. The flame in the middle of the logo symbolizes the flame inside every athlete when trying to reach their best in every sport. The five smoke threads coming from the flame represent the diversity of the Olympics, and the equality between all of them.
Finally, the wreath is a traditional Selucian item that is given to the winners of the Selucian National Games as a symbol of power, and here it is embracing the smoke threads, asking all the participants to do their best to try to reach the glory, and the symbolic "wreath". Even the name of the host city, featured under the logo, means "Victory" in our language.

Selucia unveils motto and preparations for the Terran Games
Ares Zervas will be in charge of organizing the event

Image
Former Praetor of Insularia, Ares Zervas, speaking in a TV programme about the recent developments

It has been months since Victoria, the capital city of Insularia, was elected as host city for the 4360 Terran Games, and since then, things have gone frenetically. Last month, the Selucian Olympic Committee elected former Praetor of Insularia, Ares Zervas, as Olympics Minister, after leading the successful Victorian bid for the games. And yesterday night, during the known Selucian programme Loqueris ad astra (Talking to stars), the former Praetor announced the motto and the current developments for the next Olympics.

At the moment we have 48 confirmed nations for the Games, so we couldn't be happier. This shows that the Olympic spirit is still alive, and we will work to keep it this way. Since we were chosen, we've been working frenetically and with little rest, as you can see by my beautiful eye bags [laughs]. Of course it is an exhausting job,
but we know we will be greatly recompensated when this games become a total triumph.

Talking about the motto, yeah, we received a lot of applications, but there was one that we really liked: "Animum addens futurum", which means "Inspiring the future".
It gives a reference to our commitment to inspire citizens all around Terra, and specially younger generations, to get involved in sporting events and to continue to preserve the games' legacy and sportmanship, while also speaking about the rebirth of the Games after a huge period without them. So yes, "Habemus motto".

Luckily, we don't need to build many buildings, as thanks to the Selucian National Games, most infrastuctures are already built and most of them only need a little reform. Therefore, the Selucian Games will also serve as a test to check if everything works correctly for the Olympics. Also, we are currently investing in the renewal of the Victorian Public Transport, in alliance with VaV, to improve the current vehicles. Among our measures, an special high-speed train called the "Avem" will run between the rest of Selucian capital cities and Victoria, and a float of specially designed buses-Olympic buses- will be able to handle with all the people we will have to host in the city. However, and as usual, we will encourage the use of respectful transport, like cycling, for the Games.

ImageImage
Olympic Avem and Olympic Bus, to be used during and after the Olympics

We will also ask for volunteers to help during the Games, and we hope to receive the highest number of applications possible. They will be unaid volunteers, although they will have all their meals for free during the Games, and under the name of Iudos Adjutors, or Game Helpers, they will perform a variety of tasks before and during the Games. We have set a target of 90,000 volunteers, but until 4358 we will not start the recruitment. Our Iudos Adjutors will contribute a total of around eight million volunteer hours during the Games and the Games simply wouldn't happen without them.

Of course, we will give them a special uniform, consisting on gold, black and red polo shirts and jackets, blue trousers, grey socks and grey-and-white trainers, that they will be able to keep after the games. Also volunteers will wear photo accreditation badges which will be also worn by officials, athletes, family members and media which gain them access to specific venues and buildings around the site. So yes, I think the page will explode when we open the admission period.

Finally, as we are concerned about the security in the nation, the security operation will be led by the Victorian police, and supported by members of the armed forces. Naval and air assets, including ships situated in the port, jets and surface-to-air missiles, will be deployed as part of the security operation; that means this will be the biggest security operation Selucia and Insularia will face for years. The Victorian Police will also carry out security exercises in preparation for the Olympics, with marine police officers in fast response boats.

Selucian Olympic Committee announces security changes
The changes come after the Dorvish government proposal

Image
Gratia Pelagius will command the security forces

The SOC has announced today a series of changes in security for the next Terran Olympics. The most important changes include the election of Gratia Pelagius, Chief of the Selucian Police Forces, as commander of the Selucian Security Body for the Olympic games, therefore removing that responsibility from the Head of the Games Ares Zervas. She will also serve as link between the Selucian Intelligence Agency, the Selucian Military and the Selucian Olympic Delegation, ensuring in this way the correct passage of information from one body to another during the Games.

The new chief of the Selucian Security Body has also announced that a team of international police forces will be created, at Dorvish request.

After receiving the proposal from the Dorvish government, we thought it would be a good idea to create a special international police body for the games, to coordinate the knowledge of the different Terran governments to assure that nothing happens during the games. The Dorvish police forces will be more than welcome,
and we will start as soon as possible the preparations of those people and the sharing of information.

From left to right, in chronological order, the thirteen General Secretaries of In Marea-Civis Sinistram

Has the left still a chance in Selucia? An article by Pietrus Varone

Following the last Selucian elections, where the historical left-wing party In Marea-Civis Sinistram got its second lowest amount of votes since it was founded in 4098, almost 3 centuries ago, some of its high-ranked members have started wondering if there is still a place for the left in a nation that seems to be turning to the right year after year.

The history of In Marea-Civis Sinistram is the recent history of Selucia. It has been the party that has influenced most of the national politics for the last centuries, whether in government or in the opposition. Its beginnings go back to the last government of the Factio Conservativa, after a group of political students decided to call for manifestations all around the nation to express the dissatisfaction of society with the only political party that existed at that time, and that was leading the reppresive politics against minorities in the nation. From this protests, the political party In Marea was created, headed by Ethan Megalos and Athena Scudo, two university students, and their professor Kyrian Aetius Flavius. The party decided to contest two years later to the elections, in 4100, and defeated the Factio Conservativa by getting all the seats from them, proving the joy of the Selucian population with the new party. This election led to the dissolution of the Factio Conservativa, and the stablishment of In Marea as the only party in the nation, with professor Flavius leading the Government and former student Scudo as Minister of Defence.

However, due to old age, Aetius Flavius resigned as Caesar de Senatum of Selucia, and he was replaced in the position of General Secretary of the party by Percy Lacoonte, labelled as the worst Secretary of the party. His political positions, near to the center-right, led to voters starting to disagree the politics of the party. Percy Lacoonte lasted 6 years as head of the party and Head of the Government of Selucia. The results of the 4115 elections - the worst of the party's history - made him signing his resignation. The party, previewing the disaster, started soon to look for alternatives that would place the party where it initially belonged: the left. Athena Scudo, the former student and Minister of Defence, was elected by the militants as 3rd Secretary of the party, starting its new reformation. The party recovered in the next elections, and she became twice head of Government of Selucia.

After her resignation in 4135, she was replaced by the best General Secretary of the party, according to all opinion polls. Aelius Celer arrived to the position. During his leadership, the party was the most voted one only once, in 4135, but thanks to his political skills, Mr. Celer managed to stay as Head of Government since 4136 to 4163, 27 years, the longest time a Caesar has ever been in that position.

After his retirement due to old age, the golden age for the party continued under the leaderships of former Minister of Defence Icarion Dadhelus and Artemisia Ventor, both Caesares of the nation for more than 10 years each.

However, with the start of the 4200's, the popularity of the party started to decline, due to the creation of new parties in the nation, most of them center-right and right wing, that managed to move the conservative voters. Xena Sicula and Apollo Volturcius, neither of them managed to lead the nation during their leaderships of the party, although they managed to reach government coalitions to put some ministers from the left-wing party in the government. The final act was the terrorist attack that killed the actress, leader of the party and former Consul of Selucia, Arria Ivmarus. The party decided not to contest to the second 4261 elections, taking time to recover from the wounds and to reestructurate the party.

This movement was successful, and after the election of Jerzyr Laskaris as new Secretary of the party and the next elections, the party was converted in the 1st force of the Selucian Senate for 25 years in a row, including 16 years of absolute majority. During this time, the left seemed to have found its place in the Selucian politics and in the likes of the Selucian voters. The party, during that time, faced the second threat for Selucian democracy, as they saw it: the election of an Imperator as Selucian Head of State, making the position hereditary. They managed to restore the figure of the Consul, after years of political battle.

A small defeat in 4290, by a few difference of votes, and the recovery in the following elections, with Orion Sideris at charge of the party at the time, continued to keep the idea of the second golden era for the party.

However, the start of the 4300's brought the first shock for them: with the party still being the most voted force in the Senate, a coalition of new right-wing parties kept the head of Government away from them, and it was not until 4318, with Cynthia Spirou, and after more than 20 years away from the institutions, than they recovered their place.

That was just an illusion, as for the next 20 years, the party fell to the second and third position in the Senate, and the figure of the Imperator was restored. The right-wing also started a prosecution against the Yeudish and LGBT minorities, that led to massive protests by In Marea-Civis Sinistram, in the end reaching their goal: defeating the imperator, restoring the Republic and stablishing the new democracy in Selucia.

Odysseus Scalas gave the party its first place in the Senate again, in 4342, but the dissolution of all the right-wing parties in 4350 gave In Marea-Civis Sinistram all the power of the nation. And they paid it with the return of Partis Imperialis, the conservative party that has formed coalitions with IMCS many times, and this time, the progressist party reached its second lowest amount of votes, only above those received by Percy Lacoonte at the beginnings of the party's history.

However, this time is not because of its leader, former General of the Navy and former Caesar of Selucia, Argos Loukas, a convinced republican and progressist, has scared the left-wing voters.

So why has the party reached this low? The party has dealt and defeated right-wing dictatorships three times, has contributed to the international peace and stability (Deltarian Civil War, Baltusian Conflict), has helped with international humanitarian crisis (Juliana Mede, Wolfsheim Disease), has known how to remain calm with other nations (Jelbania verbal attacks)... While some members agree that this is a temporary thing caused by the excitation of being able to choose another party again, and that in the next elections In Marea-Civis Sinistram will go up again, others think that the left died a while ago in Selucia. With most of the youth abstaining from voting and only the oldest population that remember the historical battle of the progressist party still voting for them, while the vast majority of the Selucian population has turned into convinced conservatives that refuse to hear anything from the outside.

There are two more years until the next elections take place, and there, the nation will decide if the left is dead in Selucia or it still has a chance of continuing to contribute to the Selucian history.

The battle for the center has started.
The two Selucian parties have officially started the election campaign focused in the center voters

ImageImage
Candidates from In Marea-Civis Sinistram (left) and Partis Imperialis (right)

With elections happening in 8 months, both Selucian parties have already started the political campaign, with the main aim of raising the electoral turnout and attracting the undecided voters.

Citizens will be able to choose between the center-left, in the figure of In Marea-Civis Sinistram and with Argos Loukas as its candidate for the position of Caesar, having been in that position from 4340 to 4345; or the center-right, represented by Partis Imperialis and Festus Pompeius Jr. current Caesar of the nation.

While both options guarantee the preservation of the democratic order in Selucia, significant changes may happen depending on the victory of one party or the other. This, joined with the low turnout in the last election, has movilised both parties to get the biggest number of votes. Having already seen that the votes of the most extremist positions both in the right or the left will only go to one party or to the abstention, both parties seem to be working on attracting the votes of the center citizens, undecided on whether to vote the right or the left.

We have to motivate again those citizens that in the past elections decided not going to vote, based on the apparently inactivity of any of the Selucian parties.
To vote is a constitutional right, but also a constitutional privilege that not everyone in Terra can enjoy, and citizens shall do the best use of it. From here, we encourage all citizens to go and vote in the next elections, so the future government will know how much support they really have.

Analysts are predicting that a victory of the center-left will mean a more internationalist policy, with a major involvement in the Majatran Alliance (unknown if for good or for bad), but not bigger change, as the nation was already changed 5 years ago when the party was in power.

However, another victory for Partis Imperialis may mean the ejection of In Marea-Civis Sinistram from the coalition Government, creating an "all blue" majority Government and interpretating its victory as a bigger turn to the right. Partis Imperialis has always called for a more nationalist policy.

The major change will probably be if Partis Imperialis wins with more than 2/3 of the Selucian Senate seats, which will mean they will have the power to restore the figure of the "Imperator", the hereditary Head of State, eliminating the 10th Selucian Republic.

There is still plenty of time to go, but the nation is already moving.

BREAKING Selexit on the horizon?
Selucian citizens fill the streets to protest against the Majatran Alliance

ImageImage
Left: Leader of the IUVIM, Right: Manifestation in the Selucian capital city

After refusing to join the Majatran Alliance and Common Economic Area for more than 60 years, Selucia finally ratified the treaty in 4324, becoming its seventh member. However, citizens have always seen this alliance as a complete failure, and the last movements by some members of the Alliance have made Selucians protest.

The manifestation, convened by the organization Democratic Selucia, has found the support of many Selucian organizations and committees, including the Youth wing of the political party In Marea-Civis Sinistram, the IUVIM (Iuventas In Marea).

With demonstrations all around Selucian main cities, the protesters asked for a referendum on the status of the insular nation in the Majatran Alliance, as they currently see it as a "total waste of money and resources".

The Majatran Alliance needs a reform, or needs to dissappear
has said Teresha Rodia, the leader of the IUVIM and one of the speakers.
The main idea of the Majatran Alliance is a great opportunity for every single Majatran nation, but the way things are developing only give a bad image of the union. Having nations that openly support a coup d'etat in a supposedly democratic alliance can't be good news. Having nations that has prosecution against the LGBT and other minorities as part of the alliance can't be good news. Having nations and leaders that tolerate such acts can't be good news. Selucia has fought for so long, in national and international soil, to preserve democracy to now have to bend the knee against discrimination, LGBTphobia, or oppresion. In the Majatran Alliance we can see the perfect example of the Paradox of Tolerance:
Less well known is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. — In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.

That's why we are here, in many Selucian cities, to claim for a referendum on the membership of Selucia as a member of the Majatran Alliance. That's why Selucia refused for many years to join the Alliance. Selucia was afraid of this happening. But now we are not afraid. We are angry. Our money, our resources, cannot go to those nations that support those acts. We cannot accept without speaking out the permanence of our nation in an international body that has inside it discrimination and oppresion of any kind. Selucia shall not be an accomplice. If the Majatran Alliance doesn't change, Selucia has to leave.

For the moment, no member of the Government - a coalition of Partis Imperialis and In Marea-Civis Sinistram - has not official stated anything about the declarations and the manifestations, but some members of the leftist IMCS have been seen in the protests. With elections in just a few months and the Olympic Games in 2 years, these protests may turn bigger.
