January 4775 - The ageing monarch of the Kingdom of Vanuku has passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 98, marking the end of a long era of stability ever since his return to the throne. The last few decades of his reign have been marked as the decades of the "Sleeping Lion", a period where the Kingdom mostly turned in on itself and steered away from involvement in global matters.

The former Archduke, who now sits the throne as the thirteenth King named Juhn, has announced that Vanuku will "awaken once more". The King claims that Vanuku, as the leading Jelbic state, needs to reassert its position as the dominant power in Majatra. He made it clear this will not come at the expense of the Kingdom's long time friends in Istalia. "The three day war to the South of us cannot be ignored, Majatra is shaking, it is fragile, we need to assert our iron grip once more."

King Juhn XIII issues royal decrees to solidify his position

February 4775 - The King, in deep discussion with his cabinet and prominent members of the Grand Council, has agreed to alter his position in the eyes of the constitution. The fierce monarchists of the BSP however did re-introduce the Royal Veto but affirmed that the King is to be a semi-constitutional monarch. The King and cabinet hope that this way the nation is led more towards a democratic system, giving many hope that the Kingdom is aiming to re-enter the international scene in grand fashion. Many of the articles in the new constitutional law remind people of two similar laws adopted in Yingdala to protect the position of the Son of Heaven.

As per the new constititution the role of the monarch will now look like this:
- The monarch (henceforth referred to as King) is the Head of State and represents the nation as its figurehead.
- The King has a Royal Veto that can be utilized in emergencies to veto any law or decree issued by the cabinet or Grand Council but only if these laws or decrees are deemed dangerous, anti-Vanukean or when they in any other way hold back progress of the nation.
- The succession of the King is decided by absolute primogeniture, the King himself grants the title of Archduke of Banstill upon his preferred successor within the Royal Family, a blood relation is a requirement with preference to those carrying the Banmek-Sntazed name.
- The King rules until death or personal abdication.
- The King may submit laws or decrees to the Grand Council but these must be voted upon as any other piece of legislature.
- The King must approve a declaration of war when the cabinet and Grand Council decide on such.
- The King has the power, in times of great emergency, to dissolve the Grand Council and call new elections.
- The King is expected not to attend Grand Council sessions but await the reports of His cabinet.
- The King is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and all troops swear an oath of loyalty to Him.
- The King must respect the democratic parliamentary system of the Kingdom of Vanuku, the King serves His people.
- The King has the power to ennoble, reward, and pardon any of his subjects, furthermore he may ennoble and reward foreigners that have done great things for the nation, global peace or the Jelbic peoples.
- The King's dignity may not be violated.

Many expect that the ageing Baron Skronores will soon resign as Prefect as well, with a new cabinet taking over the reigns to truly reform the Kingdom into a "new state".

September 4776 - Hkinor Kárak has quickly made a name for himself amongst those favoured by His Gracious Majesty after several showings in the meeting chamber of the Majatran Economic Association. Bek Hkinor is the Chief of the Káraks, one of the most influential tribes of the Kerlmákai that still live according to the traditional way in the wilderness of Vanuku. That however does not stop them from attaining influential positions within the Kingdom, as especially Banmek-Sntazed monarchs have been keen to appoint seasoned proper Jelbics to positions within their inner circle. Hkinor Kárak was named the Vanukean representative to the MEA two years ago and has since then won the royal favour for his passionate speeches. He impressed the King so much that His Gracious Majesty bestowed the title of Duke of Kárak upon him as an honour for his services to the Kingdom. Only a month later it was announced that Duke Kárak would be the new Prefect of the Grand Council, leading a cabinet of mostly Jelbic traditionalists with several democrats to appease the party leadership.

Duke Kárak's plain manner of speech and aggressive leadership is "exactly what our Kingdom needs right now" according to King Juhn. The new Prefect promised "a nation built upon tradition" and hinted at massive military expansion with a focus on Jelbic unity. On the latter the King seems to be in agreement with his new Prefect, the new constitutional law forced upon him by the party has moved Vanuku away from an absolute monarchy to a semi-constitutional one. The traditionalist King Juhn accepted it, as is his duty, but does not seem to agree with it. Some rumours suggest he may seek his Jelbic absolutism elsewhere.

December 4776 - Citing a historical friendship with the great nation of Malivia and a centuries old policy of protecting sovereignty across the globe the Kingdom of Vanuku, under the direction of Prefect Kárak, has formalized their new ties with the Empire of Vascania. Recent sabre-rattling by Deltaria and Kafuristan, as well as the attempts of Deltaria to seize power over Vanukean partners in their Majatran sphere, have moved the Kingdom to take a rather hostile stance against the nations. "Sovereignty is an ancient ideal of the Jelbic peoples, it is one we will defend until our dying breaths across the globe, that is our God-given duty" said Prefect Kárak at the press conference, where the Ambassador of Vascania was present too.

Journalists were free to ask questions at the conference where the Duke, in his signature style, answered all questions honestly. "Yes, we are doing this because the Deltarians and Kafuristani's are annoying me, they want to militarize merchant shipping, I rather fuck a dead camel in the steppes than deploy our navy for that. A waste of money and resources, just to show a stiff dick to Vascania. And of course, their attempts to infringe upon the freedom of our Malivian friends, it is disgusting, they are womanly cowards."

At the end of the conference the Prefect signed a diplomatic document guaranteeing the independence and sovereignty of Vascania. "Any military move against our new friends and we will bring the Skyfather's fiery fury upon them so hard they might even become men due to the fall-out." was the Prefect's closing statement.

January 4777 - After the death of H'án Juhn Katona the Kurultai of the great Jelbic Free State has been in a deadlock on who is to succeed the last H'án. The King's predecessor, Wrntukai, applauded the Knitting of the Steppes the late H'án accomplished, yet King Juhn is more critical. In this statement he was joined by Prefect Kárak who expressed fear of losing traditionalism in Jelbania. "Our Jelbek brothers were always the wildest of us, they gave me the most pride to call myself a Jelbic, but now they all seem to want to live in cities, some are even afraid of guns, can you believe that? They are slipping down a slippery slope, in Vanuku we have always held a stable balance between the learned men of the cities and the hardened men of the steppes, the Jelbekai must find this balance too before it is too late and they turn into degenerate man-women." said the Prefect last year.

The King, cited as being unhappy with his curbed powers, has now personally written to the Kurultai offering them that he take the throne. Vanuku and Jelbania would enter a personal union and be unified as a Jelbic powerhouse under the monarch, while remaining independent. The contents of His Majesty's letter are unknown but many expect him to promise the men of the Kurultai great riches if they make him an absolute monarch.


Government to give substantial boons to private firms

February 4777 - Duke Kárak gave the minister of Trade & Industry dr. Merlmai Harif and the minister of Finance Prince Kspar Banmek-Sntazed a simple task: find a way to boost the economy and strengthen it with a focus on making it properly Jelbic. The genius economist dr. Harif and long-time experienced investor as well as cousin of the King Prince Banmek-Sntazed quickly got to work, laying out a framework for the next 15 years. The defence investments of 10 years prior will be boosted even further, with the projects of refitting the aircraft carriers receiving even more finances to "generate jobs". Boons are handed out to private enterprises to give them incentive to grow and invest and hostile take overs of companies across Majatra are encouraged in the Jelbic spirit of conquest.

The framework mostly will build around the oil and heavy industry together with an immensely large arms industry aimed at exports to bring "liberty and sovereignty" across the globe. Environmentalists have protested against growing the oil and heavy industry but the government has assured these parties that the "highest standards" will be maintained to protect the delicate nature of the Kingdom.

November 4777 - Exactly a thousand years after the founding of the last Khaganate, one of the largest empires the world has ever seen, it has been restored. Many saw King Juhn's bid to gain the throne of Jelbe as a forlorn bid, one born out of adventure and wanderlust. Yet after the Kurultai agreed to grant him the throne of Jelbe it all went fast. The two nations not only entered a personal union but also vowed to see the Khaganate returned to glory. Juhn's ancestor, Laurens-Wrntukai, known to many Hosians as Saint Laŭrenco, was the first Khagan of the Khaganate, which was founded in 3777. The year was a coincidence according to the government, yet after it became known extra care was given to make the restoration happen around the same time. "A thousand years it has been since the last founding, now it has returned. Khagan Kezkai dissolved the Khaganate after he rightfully decreed it got stuck in a senseless bloody war, that will not happen this time, we will be the Enlightened amongst the Unelightened. The Beacon to guide all Jelbics, the one to bring stability and peace to Majatra. Those that oppose us better remember that" said Khagan Juhn in his inauguration speech.

It is rumoured the Khaganate is seeking other nations to join it, with experts pointing out increased ties between Vanuku and Jakania. The Jelbics and Tukarics are also brothers, which might very well forge another bond within the Khaganate.

December 4777 - The Jelbic-Dorvish merger tongue of Vanukeaans will henceforth only be taught at national universities as an opt-in course. The cabinet under the guidance of Prefect Káraz has announced a Jelbification program for the entire nation. "With the Khaganate restored, we must assure that the Kingdom is as Jelbic as it can be, as it was thousands of years ago" said the Prefect in the Grand Council earlier this month. Initially Káraz wished to fully ban the teaching of Vanukeaans but a petition of academics made him turn around. Several professors and doctors across the Kingdom argued that Vanukeaans must be preserved as a language to study, citing its integral part in the history of Vanuku. Nonetheless the youth of tomorrow will only learn Jelbic, Augustan, Majatran and Luthorian in their basic education.


Khagan marries niece of Vascanian Emperor

March 4778 - In a move that both surprised and shocked many across the Khaganate the Khagan has converted to Tanhrism, specifically to the Zollism sect. The Khagan, who was raised a Patriarchal Hosian, cited the need to feel closer to his Jelbic identity as the first among all Jelbics. Then next a marriage was announced between the Khagan and the niece of the Emperor of Vascania, the young and beautiful Princess Bhatari. This also surprised many as the Khagan, who turns sixty next year, is already married to Princess Yu Lian of Yingdala and showed no intention to stray from his Hosian roots. Even so the marriage has bonded two great powers for a long time to come.

As for the Khagan's conversion, more cynical observers have noted that Tanhrism, and Zollism specifically, allow multiple marriages. A spokesperson of the royal family insisted that Princess Bhatari, as consort to the Khagan, will be his primary wife. But it is very well possible that the Khagan will seek for more potential partners amongst friendly nations.


Economy grows, government reaches out for international trade deals
Trade between Vanuku, Jelbania, Yingdala and Vascania is booming, with Kingdom seeking more "business partners".

May 4778 - With the national economy calibrated once more the cabinet of the Kingdom has moved to more outside partners. The tactic of the "Boorish No-Nonsense Jelbic", as the Wiel Finance Times has named Kárak's international approach, has brought closer ties between Vanuku, Jelbania and Vascania. Trade between the three nation is booming, yet Jelbania remains a junior partner in the ordeal. Further intensive trade between the Zoo Alliance nations continues, yet commentators have noted that imports and exports between Trigunia and Vanuku have greatly reduced after the Metzist takeover in the Trigunian State. Though government officials are expected to send diplomats to assure that the nations still stand together, as the Prefect once said "a man's vote does not matter, only the sword he holds".

Furthermore Vanuku is now looking outward for more business partners, insiders have stated that negotiations between Jakania and Vanuku have started to intensify trade on the Majatran continent. Further nations that the Kingdom is bound to approach are Malivia, which already has good relations with Vascania, and Cobura. The latter recently received a high-ranking Vanukean diplomat to establish ties between the two nations, though it may yet seem problematic to balance a friendship with Malivia and Cobura. Nonetheless the Vanukean export industry is at a recent all-time high, with the arms industry seeking more nations to export to.

June 4778 - The naval resurgence program, kickstarted under King Wrntukai VIII, has made slow progress over the years. Temrkai Vrnsrmo, CEO of Shipyard Havendam, announced in a press conference that the retrofit of the aircraft carriers of the Kingdom has turned out to be "tougher than expected". Vrnsrmo cited long neglect and complicated systems as the main reasons, as well as a lack of technical expertise within the Kingdom. SH has called upon the government to assist, who have sent additional funds and technical experts. Furthermore the government announced that the Khagan himself has sought contact with the Son in Heaven in Yingdala to request Yingdalan experts to assist the efforts at home to restore the mighty fleets of Vanuku.

It has also been announced that the Kingdom is seeking to purchase submarines from Yingdala, these modern submarines have to compliment the standing fleet of new destroyers. If these modernizations and purchases come through the fleet of the Kingdom will once more be amongst the top five of the world.
