Vanuku launched bid for Security Council
Campaign kickstarts with support of Jelbania and current SC member Jakania.

Prefect Kárak meets with several ambassadors in Wiel, throughout the world Vanuku's ambassadors have contacted governments.

April 4779 - With the new government firmly entrenched and the Khaganate re-established the government of Vanuku has announced it will run for the Security Council seat of Majatra. This comes shortly after Jakania announcing that after this term they will no longer run, instead they encouraged their Vanukean ally to make a bid. And so it did, Vanuku will be running on a platform of "international candour and sovereignty". It cites the unparalleled honesty in diplomatic affairs of the Kárak cabinet and Vanuku's historical fascination with protecting sovereignty across the globe as the prime reason why nations should vote for them. "I never lie to the public, I never twist my words, I say what I think, feel and believe. That is the Jelbic way, the candour of the steppes. When food is scarce and your horse is tired you need not waste words, say only the truth." said Prefect Kárak of the Jelbic candour.

Támnr II ready for sea trials by Q1 4781
Yingdalan assistance has "kicked out the kinks" according to Shipyard Havendam.

Image
Temrkai Vrnsrmo, CEO of Shipyard Havendam, at the Támnr II dry dock earlier today. He has assured the Ministry of Defence of sea trials for next year.

January 4780 – Where two years ago the prospects for the refitting of the Vanukean aircraft carriers looked bleak, now the prospects are great according to CEO Temrkai Vrnsrmo of Shipyard Havendam. After contacting the government that they were unable to meet the terms stated in the government contract the Kárak cabinet set to work. It is rumoured the Khagan himself sought contact with his brother-in-law, the Son in Heaven of Yingdala, to request help. For over a year now specialized Yingdalan engineers have been assisting their Jelbic brothers in the struggle to make the mighty carriers of the once feared Vanukean fleets seaworthy once more. Vrnsrmo has assured the government that the Támnr II, the former pride of the fleet, will be seaworthy in the first quarter of 4781. The Ministry of Defence has announced that if her sea trials are successful, she will be renamed to the Támnr III, to honour the long servitude of the Támnr II and to herald the “new life” of the ship. The Támnr II was originally constructed as a replacement of the Támnr, the first carrier that Vanuku ever constructed. Whereas the original Támnr was a small carrier with limited capability the Támnr II was constructed jointly with Trigunia and Dorvik, being one of the first supercarriers to see the seas in history. With the upgrade the Támnr III, as she will then be known, will be amongst the most modern supercarriers across the globe.

Meanwhile work on the other carriers of Vanuku also continues at a slow but steady place. “Our priority is now with first finishing the Támnr, to get a good grasp of what has to be done and how we have to do it, once she is fit for service we can pour all resources onto the other two ships” said CEO Vrnsrmo at a press conference. Yingdalan engineers are expected to remain in Vanuku for several years to come, as the entire naval forces of the nation are being recalibrated for flexibility within the Zoo Alliance.

Jeztaghék Srmko and Jeztaghék Drsme to be part of national curriculum
All Jelbic children will have to pass the Jeztaghék Kshihiko at age 12 to advance onto their high school education.

February 4780 – The ancient coming of age ritual, still prevalent amongst traditional families and the western tribes, is set to become part of the national curriculum. While many celebrate the Jeztaghék Kshihiko in a milder manner, much alike the Yeudish bar mitzvah, the national curriculum set up by the Education Ministry under dr. Baokrt has drafted a proposal where it will be used to instil Jelbic values into the generation of tomorrow. Traditionally Jeztaghék Srmko stands for son of the steppe, whereas Jeztaghék Drsme stands for daughter of the steppe. A clearer translation would be subject of the steppe, a traditional process wherein a Jelbic individual shows his humility towards Tanhri and the steppe as well as his skill and ability to survive in the harsh environment. Traditionally the ritual was only for boys, yet in later years the daughters of Jelbic families were also included.

As of 4781 children in the last year of their basic education, those that are 11 to 13 years old, will be expected to go through a set of trials. These consist of basic Jelbic traditional fitness tests, like shooting a bow, riding a horse and surviving a night on the steppes as well as more modern additions like shooting and cleaning a service rifle, reciting a list of enemies of the Khaganate and completing a basic training course with the national military youth. Prefect Kárak has stated his great confidence in the program, claiming that the Jeztaghék Kshihiko will battle obesity amongst children, prepare them better for their national service and help preserve Jelbic culture. The Prefect furthermore added that parties are encouraged. “Kids need to party, go wild, have a drink, not too many but learn to enjoy yourself, it’s a vital part of life” he said at the announcement of the new curriculum.

Tanhrism on the rise after Khagan's conversion
The traditional Jelbic religion is gaining ground, with the Terran Patriarchal Church being the biggest "loser".

Image
Shaman Suadjasrl in the Northern Steppes of Vanuku, she is quickly becoming one of the most popular shamans of the Khaganate.

May 4780 – Tanhrism is growing within the Khaganate. For Vanuku the Zollism sect is quickly rising, while those in Jelbe still remain mostly tempted by mainstream Tanhrism. The growth has been attributed to a rise in Jelbic nationalism, a move promoted by the Kárak cabinet, and the conversion of the Khagan to Zollism. With the Khagan openly showing his devotion to the Skyfather it has become more popular amongst the religious of the Khaganate to once more call themselves Tanhrist. Traditional religions like Ahmadism and Hosianism are on the decline, with the agnostics and atheists also showing a small increase. The decline in Ahmadism and Hosianism has mostly been attributed to the new “enemies” of Vanuku on the continent of Majatra. The largest Hosian denotation within the Khaganate is the Terran Patriarchal Church, who’s Patriarch resides in Deltaria. Ahmadism, while still popular, is a religion mostly linked to the Majatrans, and with Kafuristan on thin ice with the government in Wiel and state propaganda openly claiming that both the Kafuri and the Deltarians are “dangers to the peace in Majatra” it is easy to conclude why many swap to the Jelbic faith.

One shaman that has enjoyed great popularity is Suadjasrl (31), born Klune Hizdrüz, she took the name Suadjasrl (New Soul) after finding herself in the Tanhri faith several years ago. “One day, about eight years ago, I found myself reading a book by the old Jelbic philosopher Tgranz Znz and his vivid depictions of the “old ways” and the Tanhri faith and all the rituals and grandeur, it carried me to it. I found a shaman and converted. Five years ago, I completed my own training to be a shaman and now I lead weekly gatherings in the steppes.” The young Suadjasrl has used modern technology to create a greater audience, as all her rituals are livestreamed on the popular Jelbic video website Tghakrhkzehrz.van. More and more young people openly follow the Tanhri religion, which is quickly becoming the third largest in the Khaganate. Projections state that in a few years it might even become the second largest religion amongst Vanukean citizens.

Encouraged by economic growth Ministry of Defence invests heavily into Armed Forces
Yingdalan hardware purchase to be the first of many, according to Minister Hynrk-Aldrkai Vrkz, who hinted at large Land Forces investment.

June 4780 – The Ministry of Defence announced a large hardware deal with Yingdala earlier today, but exact details of the deal will remain undisclosed until the time is ripe according to Minister Hynrk-Aldrkai Vrkz. “The global situation is too unpredictable for us to openly disclose the complete package we purchased.” The purchase comes shortly after an announcement of further economic growth. “The numbers are good, we are growing, unemployment is plummeting, and our companies are increasingly valuable. To investors I’d say, this is the time, get those stocks in our economy!” said Minister dr. Harif of Trade & Industry.

A substantial amount was invested in a new submarine fleet, with the current Vanukean submarines cited as “outdated”. The newer models purchased from Yingdala, ranging from conventional to nuclear-powered, will remain the mainstay of the Vanukean submarine fleet for years to come. Even so the Ministry of Defence declared that “in the end they are a stopgap measure”, confirming that new homegrown designs will be put into service in the foreseeable future. Minesweepers and patrol crafts have also been purchased, but in much fewer numbers than the submarines. Vanuku has historically always boasted a large submarine fleet, using it as a cheaper measure to reinforce their carrier fleets. Exercises in the past have shown great success with this tactic, with the larger vessels distracting the enemy fleets the invisible submarines can strike with great power.

Furthermore, Minister Vrkz stated that the Land Forces are next for the Ministry of Defence. “With the carriers soon to be refitted and several new vessels entering our fleet, as well as the modernized destroyers, we will be ready in a few years to conclude the naval modernization program. After that, the Land Forces will see revamp. To assure our ability to counter continental threats.” The move has been a response to growing tensions with Deltaria, the southern neighbour of the Khaganate. The SSA has marked Deltaria was the riskiest state in Majatra alongside Kalopia.

First Fleet welcomes back mothership
Sea trials of aircraft carrier successful, Támnr III made "pride of the fleet" in lavish ceremony.

Image
The HVMS Támnr III during the sea trials where she performed "admirably" according to the commander of the Naval Forces.

March 4781 – Thanks to Yingdalan help and further government investment the sea trial of the greatest aircraft carrier of the Vanukean navy started on schedule, in early March the Támnr II departed for her “maiden” voyage, completing all trials with excellent markings. As a response the commander of the Naval Forces, Admiral Aldrkai Vrn-Salyzr officially designated the vessel as the HVMS Támnr III. A lavish ceremony was held where the Khagan made time in his busy schedule to bless the vessel himself with the sacrifice of an eagle and the crashing of a bottle of champagne against the starboard side.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the teams working on the Támnr will now focus on the other two aircraft carriers designated for “re-deployment”. With the Támnr back in circulation the last old vessel, the Queen Mrjmai, has been taken off her sea duties and will be retired. In total the Khaganate will field three aircraft carriers, one less than before, but they will be as advanced as they can be. The fighter jets on the decks of these vessels also remain the same, after rigorous tests proved that the current planes of the Air Forces are reliable and still up to date.

Wiel denies involvement in “Inika Cow Massacre Scandal”
Bovine poachers caught in Malivia cause international outrage.

April 4781 – For several weeks, the inhabitants of the small town of Inika reported gunshots and missing cows form their pastures. Police launched an investigation but attributed the gunshots to hunters and the cows to perhaps a predatory tiger. A local village committee was established to hunt for this fabled cow-napping tiger. For a period of two weeks the men of the village, sixteen strong, went out into the hills to hunt for the yet unseen tiger. All their expeditions were unsuccessful until some playing children reported finding cow bones on the forested hill north of the village. A local hunter and tiger expert, Ramesh Dugar, was involved in determining whether a tiger really killed these cows. His conclusions were quite the opposite and brought great shock to the community, the cows had been butchered.

When it became clear that Inika was suffering from cow poachers the local police involved themselves as well and a massive manhunt was kickstarted. Late April two men were apprehended out of a group of four, the other two managing to escape into the deep wilderness. The two men identified themselves as “survivor specialists” enjoying their hobby in the “southern hills of Hobrazia”. They claimed their entry of Malivia was a mistake. The men gave no excuse for poaching cows, though one did quip that he thought they were “wild animals”, hardly apt for a self-proclaimed survival specialist. Further evidence of a barbecue and a meatgrinder were found at their make-shift camp, though both men denied “grilling burgers”.

Malivian police has released the names of the two arrested suspects as Jeztri Jeztrisrmo and Vrn Vrnsrmo, with two other individuals still at large. The Inika Cow Massacre Scandal has caused an outrage throughout Malivia, as the killing of a cow is considered a great crime. Several Malivian radicals have called the scandal a retaliation from Vanuku for the attempted assassination of Duke Kárak but Wiel denies all involvement. “The government cannot stand for the individual deeds of all Jelbics across the globe, but we share our deepest sympathies with the Malivian people” said a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Military expansion grows, Khaganate conducts yearly exercises
Ministry of Defence pushes for more Zoo Alliance exercises to compliment busy schedule.

Image
Troops of the Jelbe Khanate during exercise “Tanhri’s Wrath II” in central Jelbania.

May 4781 – After an initial test of military coordination and capabilities of the Jelbe Khanate and the Kingdom of Vanuku the two powers now work as an integrated yet independent force. The Jelbe land forces are substantially smaller than Vanuku’s, and under the guidance of the Kingdom they are working more towards a specialized force of hard-trained light infantry. “The Jelbék brothers are a hardy folk, closer to the traditional ways of fighting than most Wrnukék are, they are not big fans of tanks or armoured vehicles and prefer to ride on horseback and shoot rifles. We take these preferences and their strengths and coordinate them towards it, which is why the Jelbéks will be utilized as cavalry border troops and excellent light infantry” said General Hyeon at a press conference about the exercise Tanhri’s Wrath. As the leader of this exercise the general also confirmed that there will be yearly exercises in different seasons to “prepare our troops for everything”.

While Tanhri’s Wrath I was mostly aimed at redefining the forces of both nations and calibrating the cooperation between the member states of the Khaganate the second version was all about wargames. Mixed units of Jelbék and Wrnukék troops worked together to outsmart each other in the central steppes of Jelbe. Observers applauded the rapid deployments of Jelbék soldiers, their light equipment and sturdy horses giving them the upper hand in the difficult to navigate steppes. With Vanukean technology and Jelbanian perseverance any nation will have a hard time battling the Khaganate. Tanhri’s Wrath III is scheduled to start in January 4782, as a winter exercise in southern Jelbania.

Mysterious investment firm TBTK Krp injects billions into Jelbanian mining operation
Government confirms investment, refuses to reveal details about company and origins of money.

June 4781 – With the Kárak cabinet still investing heavily in Vanuku’s industry they have started to seek for outside investors to help finance operations. Gold Lion Capital, the Hutorian investment firm with an office in Wiel, offered a “multi-billion investment” but was promptly outbid by TBTK Krp. Insiders have claimed the TBTK Krp bid was double that of Gold Lion Capital, giving an amount of over 20 billion LOD. It has further been revealed that TBTK Krp steered the government away from the oil drilling deal it originally wanted but instead opted for the Jelbanian mining industry. A sector previously dominated by Vanukean companies. Several smaller mining companies in the area have been bought out and a new mining conglomerate, named TBTK-Jelbe, has been set up as the front for the new mining giant.

The investment, while undoubtedly fruitful for Vanuku, has raised several questions in the Grand Council. Backbenchers of the Banmek-Sntazed Party have raised a parliamentary inquiry, but the Chairman of the Grand Council rebuffed it after it failed to reach a majority vote. The Kárak cabinet refuses to dissolve the facts about TBTK Krp but insists the money is clean. For now we can only speculate where such a financial giant has come from.

Kingdom sends Brnfi Brnó to compete in FOMAT
World’s most talented throat-singer will woo audiences across the globe.

Image
Brnfi Brnó, known in Luthorian as Brother Brnó, pictured here during his sold-out concert last year.

September 4781 – The Khaganate member state of Vanuk has submitted Brnfi Brnó as their entry for the Festival Of Musical Arts in Terra. Brother Brnó, as international audiences know him, is a famous throat-singer who utilizes traditional Jelbic instruments to compliment his astounding voice. Musical guru’s across the Khaganate have both lauded and criticized the move, stating that Brnfi Brnó is the most talented throat-singer in the world but that they doubt such a Jelbic music movement will hit strides across the globe. Nonetheless Brnfi Brnó gathers large crowds outside of Vanuku as well, his tour in Selucia in 4780 was mostly sold out and critics praised his “entertaining spirit”. Whether his charisma can win prizes at the FOMAT has yet to be seen.

Nuclear device tested in southern Jelbania
With great controversy the Ministry of Defence has detonated a nuclear device near famous old blast site.

Image
The blast site of the famous Vanukean nuclear strike against Deltaria, now a testing facility for the Khaganate.

December 4781 – In a controversial move the Ministry of Defence has authorized the detonation of a prototype nuclear device in southern Jelbania. The test was concluded near the famous old blast site of Vanuku’s nuclear strike against Deltaria during their war over Jelbania. Officials from the Khanate have brushed off any criticism for using that location stating that “the crater was already contaminated”. Some have raised concerns, stating that for many the place is a graveyard and a memorial. The Ministry of Defence however has agreed with officials from Jelbe and carried on the test as usual.

The testing of a nuclear device is seen as a response to an anti-nuclear treaty worked on by the Security Council. Vanuku is the only nuclear power listed in the treaty who do not have a seat at the Security Council. Prefect Kárak has previously stated that the inclusion of Vanuku in the draft of the treaty is “ridiculous”, claiming that the Khaganate should have been consulted. “But if they want to say we have them, we will show them too” is what the Duke of Kárak said at a later meeting in the Grand Council.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the detonation was a prototype. “Funding was always a problem in Vanuku’s nuclear program for the last hundred years, but now we have the money and the means once more” said a spokesperson. The Kárak cabinet has stated that maintaining and modernizing their nuclear arsenal is a priority, claiming it is a necessity to maintain the sovereignty of the Khaganate.

Prefect snaps back at “hypocrisy” of international community
“We are the second Zoo Alliance nation to test within the last few years.”

Image
Prefect Hkinor Kárak in the Grand Council addressing the “fall-out” over Vanuku’s nuclear test.

April 4782 – The Duke of Kárak has snapped back at the international community for their criticism of Vanuku’s nuclear test. “Within the Zoo Alliance we are testing our nuclear devices and improving upon them to make them safer with a greater yield. A few years ago, Yingdala tested their thermonuclear project and not a single nation reacted. Now we do likewise, and people act as if I personally went about and had intercourse with their mothers” said the Prefect, who still has a passion for unfiltered speeches. The Ministry of Defence also issued a statement that these tests are routine and part of the ongoing Armed Forces modernization. “There is no danger to these tests, it is even safer if they are performed” read the statement issued by the Minister. The Ministry has refused to comment on allegations that Vanuku is going to increase its nuclear arsenal before the Security Council can pass their resolution against nuclear weaponry. “Unfounded rumours” said Duke Kárak of the allegations, “they don’t know what they are talking about.”

The Kárak cabinet responded harshly to Malivia’s tariffs, issuing a complete embargo on Malivian goods. With the Prefect further commenting that a “barbaric nation where the lynching of Jelbics is applauded should be left in complete isolation and poverty”. The government has further pulled all financial aid initiatives, including the Queen Mrjmai Orphans Program, responsible for housing and feeding 2,000 orphans in Malivia alone.
