He has assured the Ministry of Defence of sea trials for next year. January 4780 – Where two years ago the prospects for the refitting of the Vanukean aircraft carriers looked bleak, now the prospects are great according to CEO Temrkai Vrnsrmo of Shipyard Havendam. After contacting the government that they were unable to meet the terms stated in the government contract the Kárak cabinet set to work. It is rumoured the Khagan himself sought contact with his brother-in-law, the Son in Heaven of Yingdala, to request help. For over a year now specialized Yingdalan engineers have been assisting their Jelbic brothers in the struggle to make the mighty carriers of the once feared Vanukean fleets seaworthy once more. Vrnsrmo has assured the government that the Támnr II, the former pride of the fleet, will be seaworthy in the first quarter of 4781. The Ministry of Defence has announced that if her sea trials are successful, she will be renamed to the Támnr III, to honour the long servitude of the Támnr II and to herald the “new life” of the ship. The Támnr II was originally constructed as a replacement of the Támnr, the first carrier that Vanuku ever constructed. Whereas the original Támnr was a small carrier with limited capability the Támnr II was constructed jointly with Trigunia and Dorvik, being one of the first supercarriers to see the seas in history. With the upgrade the Támnr III, as she will then be known, will be amongst the most modern supercarriers across the globe.
Meanwhile work on the other carriers of Vanuku also continues at a slow but steady place. “Our priority is now with first finishing the Támnr, to get a good grasp of what has to be done and how we have to do it, once she is fit for service we can pour all resources onto the other two ships” said CEO Vrnsrmo at a press conference. Yingdalan engineers are expected to remain in Vanuku for several years to come, as the entire naval forces of the nation are being recalibrated for flexibility within the Zoo Alliance.
Jeztaghék Srmko and Jeztaghék Drsme to be part of national curriculumAll Jelbic children will have to pass the Jeztaghék Kshihiko at age 12 to advance onto their high school education. February 4780 – The ancient coming of age ritual, still prevalent amongst traditional families and the western tribes, is set to become part of the national curriculum. While many celebrate the Jeztaghék Kshihiko in a milder manner, much alike the Yeudish bar mitzvah, the national curriculum set up by the Education Ministry under dr. Baokrt has drafted a proposal where it will be used to instil Jelbic values into the generation of tomorrow. Traditionally Jeztaghék Srmko stands for son of the steppe, whereas Jeztaghék Drsme stands for daughter of the steppe. A clearer translation would be subject of the steppe, a traditional process wherein a Jelbic individual shows his humility towards Tanhri and the steppe as well as his skill and ability to survive in the harsh environment. Traditionally the ritual was only for boys, yet in later years the daughters of Jelbic families were also included.
As of 4781 children in the last year of their basic education, those that are 11 to 13 years old, will be expected to go through a set of trials. These consist of basic Jelbic traditional fitness tests, like shooting a bow, riding a horse and surviving a night on the steppes as well as more modern additions like shooting and cleaning a service rifle, reciting a list of enemies of the Khaganate and completing a basic training course with the national military youth. Prefect Kárak has stated his great confidence in the program, claiming that the Jeztaghék Kshihiko will battle obesity amongst children, prepare them better for their national service and help preserve Jelbic culture. The Prefect furthermore added that parties are encouraged. “Kids need to party, go wild, have a drink, not too many but learn to enjoy yourself, it’s a vital part of life” he said at the announcement of the new curriculum.
Tanhrism on the rise after Khagan's conversionThe traditional Jelbic religion is gaining ground, with the Terran Patriarchal Church being the biggest "loser".Shaman Suadjasrl in the Northern Steppes of Vanuku, she is quickly becoming one of the most popular shamans of the Khaganate. May 4780 – Tanhrism is growing within the Khaganate. For Vanuku the Zollism sect is quickly rising, while those in Jelbe still remain mostly tempted by mainstream Tanhrism. The growth has been attributed to a rise in Jelbic nationalism, a move promoted by the Kárak cabinet, and the conversion of the Khagan to Zollism. With the Khagan openly showing his devotion to the Skyfather it has become more popular amongst the religious of the Khaganate to once more call themselves Tanhrist. Traditional religions like Ahmadism and Hosianism are on the decline, with the agnostics and atheists also showing a small increase. The decline in Ahmadism and Hosianism has mostly been attributed to the new “enemies” of Vanuku on the continent of Majatra. The largest Hosian denotation within the Khaganate is the Terran Patriarchal Church, who’s Patriarch resides in Deltaria. Ahmadism, while still popular, is a religion mostly linked to the Majatrans, and with Kafuristan on thin ice with the government in Wiel and state propaganda openly claiming that both the Kafuri and the Deltarians are “dangers to the peace in Majatra” it is easy to conclude why many swap to the Jelbic faith.
One shaman that has enjoyed great popularity is Suadjasrl (31), born Klune Hizdrüz, she took the name Suadjasrl (New Soul) after finding herself in the Tanhri faith several years ago. “One day, about eight years ago, I found myself reading a book by the old Jelbic philosopher Tgranz Znz and his vivid depictions of the “old ways” and the Tanhri faith and all the rituals and grandeur, it carried me to it. I found a shaman and converted. Five years ago, I completed my own training to be a shaman and now I lead weekly gatherings in the steppes.” The young Suadjasrl has used modern technology to create a greater audience, as all her rituals are livestreamed on the popular Jelbic video website Tghakrhkzehrz.van. More and more young people openly follow the Tanhri religion, which is quickly becoming the third largest in the Khaganate. Projections state that in a few years it might even become the second largest religion amongst Vanukean citizens.
Encouraged by economic growth Ministry of Defence invests heavily into Armed ForcesYingdalan hardware purchase to be the first of many, according to Minister Hynrk-Aldrkai Vrkz, who hinted at large Land Forces investment. June 4780 – The Ministry of Defence announced a large hardware deal with Yingdala earlier today, but exact details of the deal will remain undisclosed until the time is ripe according to Minister Hynrk-Aldrkai Vrkz. “The global situation is too unpredictable for us to openly disclose the complete package we purchased.” The purchase comes shortly after an announcement of further economic growth. “The numbers are good, we are growing, unemployment is plummeting, and our companies are increasingly valuable. To investors I’d say, this is the time, get those stocks in our economy!” said Minister dr. Harif of Trade & Industry.
A substantial amount was invested in a new submarine fleet, with the current Vanukean submarines cited as “outdated”. The newer models purchased from Yingdala, ranging from conventional to nuclear-powered, will remain the mainstay of the Vanukean submarine fleet for years to come. Even so the Ministry of Defence declared that “in the end they are a stopgap measure”, confirming that new homegrown designs will be put into service in the foreseeable future. Minesweepers and patrol crafts have also been purchased, but in much fewer numbers than the submarines. Vanuku has historically always boasted a large submarine fleet, using it as a cheaper measure to reinforce their carrier fleets. Exercises in the past have shown great success with this tactic, with the larger vessels distracting the enemy fleets the invisible submarines can strike with great power.
Furthermore, Minister Vrkz stated that the Land Forces are next for the Ministry of Defence. “With the carriers soon to be refitted and several new vessels entering our fleet, as well as the modernized destroyers, we will be ready in a few years to conclude the naval modernization program. After that, the Land Forces will see revamp. To assure our ability to counter continental threats.” The move has been a response to growing tensions with Deltaria, the southern neighbour of the Khaganate. The SSA has marked Deltaria was the riskiest state in Majatra alongside Kalopia.
