Prefect Flies To Capital of The Augustan Empire To Discuss JelbaniaBaron Könnyrahe's Meeting With Grand Logothete Salyzr Could Be Tense Affairs Given Shared HistoryBaron Könnyrahe, right, and his team heads off to the Augustan Empire for talks with the Grand Logothete. January 4500 - Vanukean Prefect Baron Dnkai Dnksrmko Könnyrahe is to meet with the Grand Logothete of the Augustan Empire to seek assurances over his nation's economic interest in northern Jelbania.
The former Great Jelbek Confederation has recently voted to become a despotate under the resurgent empire, which is centred on Zardugal, ripping up a long-standing agreement that gives Vanuku influence in the northern part of its country.
Since the signing of the Rklemjistad Treaty, Vanuku has pumped billions into infrastructure projects and in redeveloping industry in the north of Jelbania. The Prefect has said he would not just walk away without compensation or without formal reassurances that the economic landscape will not change and has even insinuated that, if necessary, military action would be taken to defend Vanuku's interests.
The meeting between the Prefect and Grand Logothete Daníl Salyzr could be a tense affair for more than one reason.
Danil, along with his older brother Eksandr Salyzr, formed the ruling New Royal Front party in Vanuku in the 4470s, only to be toppled from power in a coup several years later. After spending some time in the Republic of New Verham pursuing business interests, Danil returned to politics when his friend and businessman Heijinoju Megàmotojokai was crowned the new Emperor Herodoto III.
Perhaps for these historical connections, The Prefect is being accompanied by the Crown Prince of Vanuku - Archduke Juhn of Banstill, whose father - King Wrntukai - served alongside Danil in the first New Royal Front Cabinet. It is believed the old family connection may help to temper the mood.
Asked about the upcoming meeting in Kostandia, Prefect Könnyrahe said: "We simply must reach an agreement, there are no two ways about it. I will insist that Vanukean interests are well served in any resolution."
Quizzed about meeting with one of the Salyzrs who Könnyrahe helped to topple from power in Vanuku, the Prefect said: "That is ancient history - we have both moved on. We must now concentrate on the matter at hand as heads of government of our respective nations."
