Vanuku and Istalia Set to Impose Joint Sanctions on Deltaria over Illegal Puppet State

January 4451 - Vanuku and Istalia are voting to implement a joint security operation and enforce stringent sanctions on the Federation of Deltarian Socialist Republics (FDSR) after the authoritarian nation illegally established a puppet satellite state in southern Jelbania.

The zone formerly known as the Southern Khanate has been closed off from the outside world by the government in Čachtice and renamed the People's Democratic Republic of Jelbania (PDRJ).

Vanuku was invited by the Free Republic of Jelbania government to deploy security forces into all remaining areas of "free Jelbania" to prevent any further expansionist ambitions by Deltaria and to ward of a coup.

In addition, the Vanukean and Istalian Prefect and President held emergency discussions to explore options for punitive measures and devised a plans for military co-operation and diplomatic and economic sanctions.

The joint proposal (found here and here) will see the deployment of two carrier fleets - one Istalian and one Vanukean off the northern coast of Deltaria. These fleets will feature a range of naval assets including ballistic submarines. In addition, 18,000 Istalian troops would be deployed in Jelbania to work with Vanukean forces also stationed there.

The two countries will also deny diplomatic and official recognition to the FDSR and the PDJR and enforce a total embargo on the import and export of goods to and from the two states.

Vanukean Prefect Dr Ershébef Trmékez, who has just been re-elected for a third consecutive six year term, said: "The actions of the FDSR in establishing the puppet state in southern Jelbania are illegal, totally unacceptable and completely against the democratic will and wishes of the people of Jelbania. We condemn these actions entirely.

"Both the Kingdom of Vanuku and the Republic of Istalia have shown patience with the FDSR; we have looked to forge a peaceful and stable relationship with the new government despite the extreme ideological differences and they have thrown it back in our faces. We, therefore, have to act.

"Federal President Válek must realise that the economic sanctions we intend to impose will stunt his nation's financial abilities and put an end to any thoughts of a continued expansion of his military and infrastructure plans. We hope this will enable him to re-evaluate his position swiftly."

March 4451 - The new ruler of Kafuristan has paid a state visit to Vanuku to explore greater economic and diplomatic links between the two nations.

Sultan Yusuf al-Muan was invited by Prefect Dr Ershébef Trmékek who is keen to take advantage of new trading opportunities opening up with the eastern Majatran state.

Under the jurisdiction of the new enlightened monarchy, Kafuristan is making foreign investment possible again and is also preparing to privatise a number of industries, including the state-owned oil energy company KafOil.

Vanuku is also believed to be keen to strike a deal to invest in Kafuristan's infrastructure - similar to an arrangement established with Dankuk - and will likely look at military rebuilding options too.

During his trip to Vanuku, Sultan Yusuf met with Her Majesty Queen Mrjmai at the Royal Palace in Wiel and also went on an open top tour of the capital where there remains a great appetite for both the domestic and international monarchies. Huge crowds flocked to see the young billionaire-turned-national leader with many waving both Vanukean and Kafuristani flags.

Prefect Trmékek said: "The Sultan is carrying out a series of reforms to liberalise the economy and society of his nation. Vanuku welcomes his style of enlightened monarchy and believes a long-standing relationship can be forged to our mutual benefit."

Prefect Dr Ershébef Trmékek says she will give talks with Deltaria one last chance.

June 4451 - Vanuku has confirmed it will delay deploying its fleet to the coast of Deltaria to allow last minute talks to take place.

Deltaria has also agreed to hold off assembling a naval fleet in its territorial waters and reports have come in that the armada from Kazulia and Lourenne, which was steaming towards Majatra, has also returned to port.

Prefect Dr Ershébef Trmékek said she would hold over-the-phone negotiations with Federal President Válek but it was up to the totalitarian socialist regime to show a willingness to compromise over its position in southern Jelbania.

She said that sanctions to stifle the Deltarian economy would still be voted on by the Vanukean Grand Council but only implemented if a deal was not struck.

She said: "I am very concerned that the Socialist Dictatorship in Deltaria attempted to escalate this into an international conflict and I am alarmed that nations like Kazulia and Lourenne - supposed bastions of democratic freedom - would attempt to prop up a totalitarian socialist regime.

"However, Vanuku is very much aware of the recent history of Majatra and do not wish to create further instability. We, therefore, will give talks one more chance. We ask our allies in Istalia to consider the same.

"But have no doubt that if the Federal President use this as a delaying tactic and actually has no intention of compromising then we will act swiftly and the sanctions and naval blockade will be implemented. Once before, I entered talks with Deltaria with an open mind and was just given false reassurances and platitudes. I hope for something more this time."

Meanwhile, Vanuku will push ahead with its vote to leave the Majatran Union of Nations - effectively sounding the death knell for the short-lived organisation.

The Prefect also revealed that she had been in negotiation with the government in Dankuk regarding the MUN base there. She said: "The Dranian government has agreed to transfer control of the base to Vanuku temporarily to ensure its security. Afterwards, the asset will be transferred to the Majatran Alliance and that organisation will decide whether to maintain an operational presence there into the future."

July 4452 - Up to 25,000 Vanukean soldiers are mobilising in the south of the country to join the growing coalition again Zardic imperialist expansionism.

The army will be supported by air and naval units and will be deployed to assist the Coburan army and Majatran Alliance forces.

The decision to act follows a declaration of war by Zardugal on Cobura and a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing against thousands of Mallan people living in the country.

Prefect Dr Ershébef Juhnsme Trmékez said: "I have consulted with Coburan Prime Minister Sidhom and our offer of assistance has been accepted. Zardugal's expansionist and oppressive regime must be brought to task and we will play a part in the multi-national coalition that is gathering to defend Coburan sovereignty and put an end to the ethnic cleansing atrocities. We also join our allies in calling for the immediate release of the Istalian ambassador who has been imprisoned for conveying the thoughts of his country.

"To continue to withhold the ambassador's liberty simply adds to the long list of crimes against humanity that Zardugal must face."

Meanwhile, Vanuku continues to maintain a 30,000-strong armed forces presence in Jelbania to protect against any further expansionist ambitions from the socialist dictatorship in Deltaria. The regime there has already seized the Southern Khanate area of the country and transformed it into a puppet state.

Both Vanuku and Istalia have threatened crippling sanctions against Deltaria over the illegal occupation, to which the Federation of Socialist Republics responded by attempting to draw both Kazulia and Lourenne into the conflict.

The Prefect said: "Deltarians are putting on a brave face when they say economic sanctions would only affect them minimally. We all know that without the trading co-operation of the largest economies in Majatra, Deltaria will suffer greatly. Negotiations will soon take place in which we are giving Deltaria one last chance to show us they can be trusted to do the right thing. If not, the sanctions will be imposed and Deltaria left isolated until its government realises that it cannot ride roughshod over democracy and civil rights.

"That said, we are also greatly alarmed that pro-democratic nations like Lourenne and Kazulia were so easily duped into offering protection to the non-democratic Deltarian regime and to support its invasion of sovereign Jelbanian territory against the wishes of the government there. We suggest they look at the evidence next time before knee-jerking so quickly into action which could have massive implications for the whole of Terra."
