Barmenistan Condemned For Execution Of Leading Journalist
Vanukean Authorities Now Investigating Her Claims Of A Chemical Weapons Prouduction Factory

Image
Executed journalist Hedwk Hzar.

June 4490 - The execution of the prominent Vanukean journalist Hedwk Hzar by the Barmenistani authorities has been strongly condemned by the government.

She was sentenced to death for attempting to leak photos from a secret military site in Barmenistan, which she claimed was producing chemical weapons.

The Vanukean government said it was reaching the end of its tether in issuing rebukes to the Socialist Republican regime over its "barbarc dispensing of so-called justice".

A spokesman for the Prefect confirmed that the government was now looking into the claims made by Hzar and if evidence was found of chemical weapon production it would lead to "the most serious of consequences".

Ahmadi Alliance urges caution over withdrawal from Jelbania

Ahmadi Alliance leader Husn Vrkz-Krlmék has spoken out in the Grand Council, urging the Prefect to delay plans to withdraw from Vanukean-occupied Jelbania until more guarantees have been given regarding the long-term welfare of the people living there. In his speech, Vrkz-Krlmék commented:

In principle, we are committed to the entirety of Jelbania's territory being returned to a democratically elected and accountable Jelbek government which respects its neighbours and honours the civil rights of its citizens.

However, we are concerned by some of the current policies of Jelbania's communist government, which include seizing control of peoples homes.

We therefore urge the Prefect not to agree to hand over control of the Khaganate until convincing assurances have been given that the rights of the people living in that area will be respected. We do, surely, have a responsibility to the people of the Khaganate.

Later on, he gave a press conference at which he similarly urged the Deltarian government not to withdraw from Jelbania until "the situation has become clearer and more settled".

Husn Vrkz-Krlmék hits out at Barmenia

Husn Vrkz-Krlmék has echoed Duke Kspar Nohsrmko Zhtál's criticism of Barmenia over its execution of a Vankukean journalist, attacking the regime as "barbaric", and also accusing them of "committing and promoting discrimination against and oppression of the Ahmadi population in Barmenia".

Vanuku Ready To Push Ahead With Majatran Rifle Project
Collaboration With Istalian Allies To Develop New Frontline Weapon

Image
The Vanukean Army's current main assault rifle being put through its paces.

February 4491 - Vanuku and Istalia are set to collaborate over a new assault rifle, which will become the mainstream weapon for army personnel.

It follows talks between the two governments over the need for closer co-operation on defence projects and a joined-up approach to Majatran security issues.

Vanukean Ministry of Defence staff in conjunction with experts from the Kingdom's partially-subsidised private defence industries have carried out a feasibility study into production of the weapon known as "Project Majatran Rifle" and are now satisfied with cost and timescale projections. It is a revival of a project of the same name which was considered more than a century ago but never got off the ground.

It will be the second key defence project the government has given the green light to over the last five years. In the mid 4480s, The Prefect, Duke Kspar Zhtál, relaunched Vanuku's Fifth Nuclear Carrier Fleet build project, which had been held up following an initial launch in the 4460s.

The MoD confirmed that the Támnr-class aircraft carrier and associated escort ships will be completed by 4497.

Barmenistan "crossing a big red line" says Vrkz-Krlmék

Following the release of the Kazulian intelligence report confirming claims Barmenistan used chemical weapons on its own citizens, Ahmadi Alliance leader Husn Vrkz-Krlmék has accused Barmenistan of "crossing a big red line" and called for "severe consequences".

"We cannot allow a state to behave like this, right on our doorstep", he said. "We are asking the Prefect to look at all of the options - economic, political and possibly military. There has got to be a response to this."

He also called on the international community, and the countries in the region in particular, to join with Vanuku in standing up to Barmenistan.

Investigation Into Barmenistani Chemical Weapons Widened

June 4491 - The Vanukean Government has confirmed it has launched its own wider investigation into the use of Chemical Weapons in Barmenistan following the release of a Kazulian intelligence report accusing the regime of using Sarin Gas on its own people on the island of Kathuristan.

Barmenistan has denied the allegations and called the claims an "imperialist" fabrication. However, the Vanukean Prefect said a strong case was being built which seemed to demonstrate Sophet Levon Tawaryan and his government had carried out unacceptable crimes and demonstrated a complete lack of care for human life.

Duke Kspar Zhtál said he agreed with Ahmadi Alliance Leader Husn Vrkz-Krlmék that the Barmenistani regime must be prepared to face severe consequences if his own investigation reinforced the position of the Kazulian intelligence report. He also said that Deltaria would be in no moral position to continue to guarantee the independence of Barmenistan if the allegations were proven true.

The Prefect said: "We are currently gathering intelligence from a number of sources including our own analysis of samples of chemical emissions from Kathuristan, which have been described by Barmenistan as industrial pollution. This is in tandem with the investigation we are are carrying out into possible chemical weapon production based on sites in the northern mountains of Barmenistan. Our findings will then be presented to the international community and will be viewed and judged in tandem with the SESO Report produced by Kazulia."

Prefect Confirms Historic Visit To Dorvik Following Election Success
Duke Zhtál says all options are on the table for new partnership following collapse of old rivalries

Image
Prefect Duke Zhtál salutes his supporters at a victory rally after securing re-election.

July 4491 - The Prefect, fresh from securing a substantial victory in the country's first democratic elections for nearly two decades, has confirmed he will be visiting Dorvik later this year to hold historic talks with the Republican government.

Duke Kspar Zhtál will head a large contingent for the state visit, which will include the foreign minister and senior members of the royal family. They will meet with President of the Republic Eugenie Wagener and Staatskanzler Volker Reigmsund von Rohr-Mauss of the All-Dorvischer Verband. The Prefect has been complimentary of the ADV recently saying their return to politics is likely to put Dorvik back on the international map after several decades in the wilderness.

Talks are expected to turn to Dorvik's withdrawal from the Northern Council, the opportunity for increased trade between the two nations and the possibility of closer security ties and military research co-operation.

The Duke said: "The old rivalries are dead in the water, so now it is time for a new order to take Terra forward. Safe to say there is plenty to talk about."

Speaking about his electoral success he said: "The New Royal Front has done well and the fact the electorate has put such faith in me is very rewarding. I thank the Ahmadi Alliance and their leader the Honourable Husn Vrkz-Krlmék who has proved to be a worthy opponent and a fine voice for the Ahmadi communities."

Trade Union and Strike Ban To Remain In Place
Government Says Proposals To Re-Introduce Increased Workers' Rights Are Premature

Image
A closely-monitored protest which was allowed to gather outside the Grand Council building in Wiel.

January 4492 - The Government has rejected proposals by the Ahmadi Alliance to reintroduce trade unions and democratic workers councils back into the country.

Opposition leader Husn Vrkz-Krlmék who brought forward the Trade Union Reform Bill said Vanuku was a "rather hostile environment for trade unions" and that it was important the administration did not support laws which "allow opponents to present it as the enemy of the working man and woman." He also claimed that responsibly-led trade unions had a legitimate and constructive role to play in the Vanukean economy and society.

But Prefect Duke Kspar Nohsrmko Zhtál firmly rejected the proposal and said a blanket ban on unions and the right to strike remained in place... for now.

He said: "Our cautious steps back towards democracy have been successful because they have been just that... cautious. Right now, surrounded by nations where over lenient workers' rights have been abused and used to instigate revolution, topple monarchies and banish the nobility, it would not be prudent to allow these proposals - which could be seized upon by communists and other agents of anarchy - to pass into law in our nation."

However, he did not rule out the prospect of change further down the line adding: " This is under constant review and, just as we will widen out suffrage to more and more people overtime, so we will look again at these proposals and act upon them when the time is right. In the meantime, the country will continue to thrive under the paternalistic conservatism that both my party and the monarchy promote - workers should not fear as their needs will be seen to."

Partial democracy was only recently reintroduced in Vanuku following the best part of two decades as a one-party state. Nevertheless, only nobles are allowed to register political parties and only wealthy people can vote; a ban remains in place on dangerous anti-monarchist ideologies and philosophies such as communism and republicanism.
