Vanukean Naval Fleet Moves Into New Base in Badara

One of Vanuku's Banstill-class frigates which will be based at the new naval facility in north-east Badara.

July 4457 - The first Vanukean naval vessels have docked in a new base in north-eastern Badara as relations between the two Majatran nations continue to grow.

Vanuku has leased a base from the Sultan's government for a minimal rent and are extending its capacity and facilities to eventually allow for larger and capital ships to be based there and for repairs and refitting to take place.

At the moment, four first-class and four second-class frigates have been deployed at the new location, in the north-eastern state of Marakesh, along with several smaller patrol and observational craft.

In return for the lease of the base, it is believed that Vanuku has agreed to build, at a reduced price, four Banstill-Class frigates to help modernise the Badaran navy, which is currently made up of smaller or older ships. An MoD source said that one of the modern frigates is expected to serve as the navy's new flagship.

It follows on from a major production order to supply small arms, artillery, anti-aircraft systems and multi-role fighters to the Badaran Ministry of Defence, which was agreed in 4456 after Vanuku received assurances regarding human rights issues in the Sultanate.

Princess sits down for Interview with VNN

Princess Katsura Eun-kyung, Granddaughter of Empress Taeyang Tam-hee, Third in line to the throne, and wife of Ishida no Yasutoru, has agreed to a rare interview with VNN. While the Princess has largely remained politically inactive attending to her family needs and serving as a beacon of Dankukin Culture abroad, recent events in Dankuk have caused the Princess to speak out, publically condemning the "self serving lies promoted by certain ambitious politicians" in Dankuk against her family and theculture-vandalizing actions of certain factions in Dankuk.

Princess Katsura arrived in Vanuku in 4453 as part of an Imperial Cultural promotion and has spent a good deal of time studying in Vanuku, and has become quite a sensation, especially given her singing abilities. The following is the exclusive interview from VNN.

What have you got out of your visit to Vanuku both personally and for your country?
Travelling to Vanuku has been a great learning experience as I have had opportunity to learn much about the world and how others live and deal with the situations that come up in their lives. I am the first in my family in a long time to actually visit another nation outside the Dovani area. The last members of my family who visited another nation was Distant Uncle Yeong Tae Kyo who spent time in Yingdala as an espionage agent over 100 years ago before he became Yeonguijeong, and my ancestor Taeyang Sang-ah who traveled to places as far away fron Dankuk as Hawu Mumenhes and Jelbania, to places as nearby as Kazulia. With my visit to the Great Power of Vanuku, it was expected that it would promote Dankuk's indigenous culture to the wider world.

Highlight of the trip?
I have met many people throughout Vanuku and it is quite interesting meeting so many different people of different backgrounds. They all have great stories to tell and it is wonderful hearing so many new perspectives on things. Back home in Dankuk, most people are Kyo or have Kyo ancestry and so there is not as much cultural diversity.

What is happening in your country and how has the change of government affected things? From what my colleagues in Nine Tail Agency have informed me, a Draddwyr and Westernizing movement have ransacked the capital and seized control of the government with possible foreign support from Yingdala and Lourenne. Many people who were loyal to the government have had to leave because of the situation. I myself will likely not be able to return home or see my mother and grandmother for quite some time, perhaps never again due to the security situation in Dovani. This saddens my husband and I greatly as we grew up in Dovani and when I was a child I used to play in the Imperial Gardens of the Palace in the capital. My husband remembers visiting the palace and being awe-inspired and got lost in part of the complex. I had to go help him find his way around! [Laughs] Today I see the places I grew up with have been ransacked by uncultured Migaehamin(barbarians). I remember walking those same avenues which were lined with trees and traditional shops in all directions, all in fengshui rules. Today I saw some of those shops looted and destroyed. [Sigh]
My husband has some connections with the Imperial Government of Sekowo, so he could maybe secure some passage there where the rest of my family have gathered, but my attaches insist that travel is too dangerous at this time for me, and my husband would never go without me so he's going to remain here as well. It's very sweet of him.

Why have the royal family and many others had to abandon Dankuk for Sekowo?
From what my colleagues in Nine Tail Agency have said, the situation was becoming quite precarious and dangerous for my family, and a plan was put into action to evacuate if the situation became more dire. As we both know it eventually did with the Federalists and their Draddwyr allies overthrowing my grandmother's government and ransacking the capital. Luckily my family got out there intact and have been granted asylum by Government in Sekowo.

What does the future hold and what role do you think Vanuku should be playing in Dankuk? Well I shall commit myself to my family and career here in Vanuku, I have made many friends here in Vanuku and so it's almost like another home for me. I am glad that Uncle Lee is here in Vanuku, he's not really my uncle but everyone I knew called him that for his endearing way of treating us and we've always been close since I was a child. It's always fun hearing his theories on meteorology. Considering the barbaric way the Federation regime is conducting its affairs already, and fact it is already aligning itself with forces historically hostile to Dankuk and Vanuku I think it be best that the International Community treat them as persona non-grata. In recent news, the Federation regime is closing the base in Reunni which the Vanukean government has been operating for years and applying to enter the Northern Council, which historically has been norhing more than a front for Kazulian and Lourennais Dominationism over other sovereign states. I fear that this will be end of Dankuk's sovereignty(Jegugwon) and independence. Regarding my personal life in will likely work with my husband to raise our children to be true to Dankuk-spirit. My family will work with Yeong Yoon Jin Harmony and Peace Foundation to preserve Dankukin Culture for everyone to enjoy, and perhaps one day, the Sun will rise again over Dankuk.

With the mass sell off of its assets in Dankuk estimated to be about 730 Billion DRA(873 Billion VAN), Taeyang Electric has used the money to buy up areas of trade elsewhere in the world, and particularly setting up shop in Vanuku, who have extensive deals and contracts with the Dankukin Company. It is expected the company will start producing many of the cyclic-compression engines in various Vanukean Vehicles in conjunction with local Vanukean companies and many companies are eager to contract with the Company to obtain exclusive access to the trading secrets of the Multinational. The local leaders of the Hwangje clan are expected to be highly involved in the company's ventures in the future.

Vanuku and Hutori Sign Up to Historic Pact
Treaty Seals Peaceful Relations Between Powerhouse Nations.

August 4460 - Vanukean Grand Councillors have finally ratified a treaty which formally underlines growing relations with Hutori.

It took a second vote 10 months after the first reading of the treaty bill failed in order to pass the Memorandum of Understanding and Co-operation.

It brings to an end nearly 50 years of frosty relations between Vanuku and Hutori, a prominent member of the Northern Council. It also seals a joint pledge to fight rogue states around Terra and to co-operate on ensuring international peace and prosperity.

It is clear that Vanuku, which is arguably the biggest military power in the southern hemisphere, sees Hutori as the fastest emerging nation in the north and believes alignment rather than antagonism is the way forward.

Submarine Fleet Modernisation
Meanwhile, Vanuku's newly-upgraded submarine fleet has been completed. A whole range of attack and forward observational under sea craft have been built, including several near silent running scout subs, based on engine technology shared by the former Dramian government.

The multi-billion Van upgrade also includes significant modernisation to the array of nuclear ballistic missile submarine craft - although details of the programme remain top secret.

Vanuku Announces Plans for A Fifth Carrier Fleet
Fifteen-year Programme Revealed To Significantly Boost Naval Security Projection Capability


A fifth carrier strike group is expected to be completed by the 4480s.


June 4466 - Vanuku has announced that the first major project be taken on by the newly fully-nationalised defence industries is to build a fifth carrier strike group for its armed forces.

Prefect Kspar Zhtál said that a 15-year, multi-billion VAN development and production programme would be carried out, spearheaded by naval manufacturing arm Shipyard Havendam.

The centrepiece of the proposed fifth fleet will be a new aircraft carrier built to the same specification as the current naval flagship - the HVMS Mrjkai.

Several new support craft will be produced to complement the CSG including Wiel-class Destroyers, Tekmak-class Cruisers and Banstill and Nacthen-class frigates.

The new aircraft carrier will feature S-44B Tanhri stealth fighter aircraft as part its carrier air wing, a variation of the Tanhri multi-role aircraft designed and developed by Vanuku, specifically for take off and landing on naval vessels.

Prefect Zhtál said: "The reason that we have taken the time and effort to take full governmental control of our defence industries is so that we can have a single-minded approach to the security projection capabilities of our nation.

"We believe that in order to enable our armed forces to fully carry out duties in the defence of our nation and our allies, and to ward against rogue states and volatile regimes, a fifth naval fleet is required with all the associated vessels, craft and personnel."

Meanwhile, the Z-MJP government's plans to completely nationalise the rail industry were on track to be ready for the end of the year. All remaining privately-run train operating companies have been bought by the government and all rolling stock, infrastructure and the rail network is now under the remit of Vanuku Rail (VR).

Re-branding, training and timetabling projects are now being carried out ahead of the official launch of VR in December 4466. The aim of the nationalisation is to provide more cost-effective public transport to people and make it more accessible in all areas of the country, not just on the most profitable main lines. Some critics say the government may end up heavily subsidising the less well used lines and be forced to run half empty trains and services that only cater for a few people in remote areas.

Vanuku Ready To Help Istalia Stave Off Effects of Consortium Embargo
Ministry of Defence On Standby to Complete Aeronautical Production Contracts After Zardic Firms Pull Out.


Prefect Kspar Zhtál believes Zardugal is shooting itself in the foot economically due to severing ties with its biggest trade partner - Istalia.

February 4467 - The Vanukean Ministry of Defence has said it is ready to step in to help Istalia fulfil its contractual obligations, which have been hampered by the Consortium Alliance's trade embargo.

Tanhri, the aeronautical arm of Vanuku's nationalised defence industries, is on standby to take on the production requirements of the Ajace Aeronautics which had been sub-contracted to Zardugal in the past. These include the manufacturing of fuselages and other airplane and helicopter components.

The Vanukean government has also sent dispatches to Zardugal asking for clarity over the need for the embargo on Istalian goods and trade and urged all parties to resolve the issue.

Prefect Kspar Zhtál said: "It is clear that the embargo on Istalia affects Zardugal just has badly as it affects Istalia. They are historically major trade partners. There is, therefore, no financial sense to this action from a Zardic point of view and we ask them to clarify what the point of all this is and to bring forth evidence of the 'acts of imperialism' enacted by Istalia.

"Nevertheless, we recognise that where Zardic companies will lose out there are opportunities for Vanukean industries. Therefore, the Ministry of Defence is in a position to step in and work with Ajace Aeronautics and other Istalian firms to help them meet their contractual requirements now and into the future."

For the last few years Vanuku has maintained a policy of keeping a watchful eye on Zardugal and its Consortium ally Deltaria while building up closer relations with nations like Hutori, Valruzia, Istalia and Cildania - all who have pledged to take action with the Kingdom against rogue states. Whether this more direct diplomatic statement marks a change in Vanuku's approach remains to be seen.

Calls For Deltaria To Address Situation In Southern Jelbania
Government Wants Co-operation Over 'Illegal' State Established By Former Communist Deltarian Regime.


Vanukean soldiers maintain a vigilant watch in Jelbania - but would withdraw if the new proposal is accepted by Deltaria.

August 4467 - The Vanukean government has reached out to Deltaria to resolve the political situation in southern Jelbania "once and for all".

The former communist rulers of Deltaria occupied the southern province of the Jelbek Confederation and set up a semi-independent state called the People's Democratic Republic of Jelbania in 4450.

The state was never recognised by Vanuku or its allies, such as Istalia, who enforced a series of economic sanctions on Deltaria because of its actions.

However, with the Deltarian regime now ruled by an anti-socialist and anti-communist military overlord in the form of General Manosindus Von Thaller things have drastically changed.

Vanukean Foreign Minister Ashkar Dnksrmko Káraky has written an open letter to the Deltarian overlord which reads: "It is time to end the situation in southern Jelbania for once and for all. Vanuku, in agreement with the central government of the Great Jelbek Confederation, calls on Deltaria to withdraw any official support for the sub-state known as the People's Democratic Republic of Jelbania, so that it may once again be governed from Jelbania - its rightful nation.

"In addition we ask that Deltarian troops stationed in southern Jelbania withdraw to their own realm. If this is agreed Vanuku will also agree to simultaneously withdraw its troops from the other provinces of the Jelbek Confederation - namely the Jelbek Khaganate, Free Republic of Jelbania and western Confederal Tribal Areas.

"Vanukean and Deltarian economic interests in the Jelbek Confederation will be allowed to continue with the approval of the Central Jelbek government and to aid that nation in its rebuilding programme."

Vanuku is now waiting for a response from General Von Thaller.
