Wrnhelm Breaks Months of Silence; Endorses Princess Mrjmai as Prefect

Image
Prince Wrnhelm Banmek-Steuart-Vrnhmel

After keeping his silence on recent political deadlock in Vanuku, His Highness, Prince Wrnhelm, has confirmed that his political bloc within the Grand Council would be endorsing Her Highness, Princess Mrjmai's push to form a Royalist Alliance Cabinet. Following the last Grand Council election the Prince's political bloc was the smallest, holding only 31 seats. Most political analysts acknowledge that the Prince isn't seen as a native son of Vanuku; his mother, Princess Adrianna, was the daughter of Empress Sarah V of Hutori, who married the Duke of Bartletstad. That he is not seen as a native son, and his lack of wide support amongst the greater aristrocracy is seen as the chief reason why his bloc remains stubbornly small, though everyone acknowledges that his primary base of support is amongst the rank and file of the military and the powerful and sprawling security appartuses that the Prince helped built as Regent, making his influence not small.

The Prince was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs and Director of the dreaded State Security Agency by Prince Aldrkai, positions everyone expects him to retain in the new Cabinet. As is normal amongst his station, Prince Wrnhelm was unavaliable for comment, but his Chief of Staff, Jeztri Baokndz, spoke on his behalf stating merely. "The Prince acknowledges that the Vanukean people made a decision in the election and sought to allow the BSP attempt to form a government. The Prince is first and foremost a servant of the people, as he swore when he served as Prefect, and he will continue to do so. The Prince hold no ill will towards Prince Aldrkai and thanks him for the chance to serve during his tenure as Prefect and will continue to work with him in any capacity to ensure the safety, stability and prosperity of Vanuku."

Departing Prefect Also Quits As Party Leader
Viscount Hynrk Zhtál-Merlkai Set To Be New Leader of the Opposition

Image
Viscount Hynrk has had a colourful life and career but says he is now dedicated to politics.

August 4627 - Departing Prefect Prince Aldrkai Banmek-Sntazed-Zhtál has confirmed he will also stand down as his party's leader after his coalition government was ousted from power.

After nearly a decade in charge he said he was "disappointed but in some ways relieved" that his time at the helm was coming to an end. The 74-year-old said Vanuku was in a much better place on all fronts thanks to the policies he had introduced but warned the new BSP-led government that they faced a huge threat in the rise of Deltarian ambitions and must address it immediately.

He also said his party would rise again and would fight the next election with the same vigour and tenacity that had propelled the Zhtál faction to the top of the political tree over the last three centuries and that a new party leader would soon be announced who would scrutinise and hold the new government to account if it failed to serve the people and the nation.

That leader is expected to be Viscount Hynrk Zhtál-Merlkai the son of the Prince's late cousin. The Viscount is a direct descendant of the founder of the Zhtál political faction, Duke Sígzma, who first ventured into Vanukean politics in the 4380s. He is also heir to Prince Aldrkai's title of Duke of Vrkzel (the Prefect had no children of his own and his only sibling's family perished in the communist uprising).

Prince Arldrkai had sometimes been accused of being meek or too much of a compromiser. Hynrk is anything but. Having left the Royal Military Academy for punching a drill sergeant (who he accused of inappropriate sexual advances), he later worked as an actor in a series of B-movies and then a tabloid gossip columnist and a TV showbiz presenter. Later when he was named heir to both his late father's and the Vrkzel estates he "settled down", entered into politics and took a seat in the Grand Council, where his powerful oratory skills have impressed.

Now 49, he is expected to be appointed leader of the opposition in the next two weeks.

Terra Holds Its Breath
Prefect Speaks To The Nation As King Gives Consent For War By Any Means With Deltaria

Image
One of Vanuku's ballistic missile submarines prepares to dive for deep water where it will standby to receive an executive command on discharging its payload.

June 4635 - The Prefect has spoken to the nation about the King's decision to endorse any military means necessary to rid Terra of the Deltarian scourge.

Wrntukai VII gave royal consent as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces to wage an all-out conflict by any means against Deltaria and any of its allies. It came after Deltaria carried out a surprise invasion of its neighbour Jakania and, reportedly, carried out a number of atrocities against civilians.

Speaking to the Kingdom in a live TV broadcast about the decision, the Prefect, Viscount Hynrk Zhtál-Merlkai, explained what must happen now.

He said: "So be it. The die is cast. His Majesty has spoken and this nation's armed forces now have the green light to wage total war against Deltaria to bring that corrupt and evil Terra-threatening regime to an end.

"International parties are now coalescing behind the idea of military intervention too - both to liberate Jakania and to invade the Deltarian homeland to remove the Czar and his criminal government – but, whilst we hope this will achieve what is required, we cannot guarantee it will happen... or will happen soon enough. We cannot allow more atrocities to unfold or for Deltarian to be quelled now temporarily only menacingly to return in the future.

"Therefore, whilst these discussions continue we will ramp up our unilateral preparations for war: orders will be sent to all our strategic and tactical warhead teams on land, sea and in the air to set their sights on pre-ordained strategic and tactical targets in the Deltarian homeland.

"They will then standby for my command, which will be the executive authorisation security code and then the command either "go" or "don't go". If the command is "go" they will carry out strikes on their pre-ordained targets using all ordnance at their disposal.

"Our conventional forces, both regular and reserve personnel, are now fully mobilised. The air force is ready to carry our a series of air superiority missions to ground the Deltaria's airforce and destroy the limited HEAT missile defence system they put so much faith in.

"Our naval carrier task forces are converging on the theatre and our land forces are full mobilised and ready to deploy.

"It is my intention to put a final ultimatum to Deltaria calling for the immediate abdication of the Czar and his government - with the protagonists giving themselves up to international authorities to stand trial for crimes against humanity, the immediate end to the nuclear weapons programme and a complete withdrawal from Jakania with reparations to be decided by the international community.

"If they refuse this ultimatum, or no response is received, we will have to assume that a state of war exists with Deltaria and that all means at our disposal will be used to achieve victory."
