Psote Tepio, the head of the Sovereign Council arrived home last night from Deltaria where he attended the funeral of the General Secretary Simon Turek. On the sidelines of the state funeral, Tepio managed to meet several members of the all-powerful Deltarian Politburo and is believed to have pressed his case for Deltaria to desist supporting rebels in eastern Cobura especially now that a progressive faction of the Coburan National Congress was in charge. Coburans certainly have the most leftwing government in several centuries. It has more than doubled public expenditure, introduced a 95% income tax top rate and nationalised most of the country's largest corporations include the famous all-female agricultural cooperative Ama Koffia
The heads of Cobura's five largest corporations along with several smaller ones have announced in a joint statement that they will challenge the government's decision to nationalise their companies through compulsory purchase of majority stakes. The group's spokesman Menelik Abraha, chairman and CEO of the mining conglomerate Kobra Corp said they were challenging the government's moves on a number of legal grounds including inappropriate administrative action, unfair compensation (none) and constitutional rights to enjoyment of property.
The Sovereign Councillor for Trade and Industry Saif al-Ahmad dismissed the lawsuit as "rich boy tears" and more controversially, "warned" the courts to "uphold the public will or face its fury." The Court of Appeal has accepted the emergency application with a decision expected in the weeks to come.
