Protests Subside as State of Emergency Lifted

May 4092 -- Protesters in major cities throughout the country demobilized today as newly-installed Grand Vizier Admassu Sisay ordered an end to the State of Emergency in place since the Tokundi War of Independence. Demonstrators had been challenging the government regarding policies said to be a continuation of the Banemes Regime's military dictatorship. 'Sisay and Susnios are both in cahoots with Banemes -- that much is clear. That's why they let him off with a slap on the wrist after the coup. But with people power, we have made it known that the constitution and the people's will will be respected, Banemes or no Banemes,' said one protest organizer.

Monarchy returns: Hawu Pharaoh set to visit Sharba for Coburan coronation

Hawu Mumenhes Pharaoh Saksoure V (L) and Queen Ribrete (R) to reign as first Lord and Lady of Cobura in 40 years

Flexitime 4095ish -- Grand Vizier Sisay's abrogation of the wartime State of Emergency was accompanied by a slew of legislative initiatives designed to re-institute civil liberties and return the country to prewar constitutional norms. Chief amongst the legislative bills was the formal recognition of Hawu Mumenhes Pharaoh Saksoure V's right to succeed his slain elder brother as Lord of Cobura. The 25-Member Succession Council tasked with translating the crown and other royal regalia to the Hawu king has informed reporters that the new Lord has acceded to Sharba's offer and is currently en-route to the Majatran kingdom for coronation rituals. The Lord is expected to address the public following ceremonies, especially regarding how Coburan-Hawu relations may shift given the Personal Union now-extant between the countries due to His reign. The Lord may also visit Jakania, the one-time possession of the Abraha family and its Kobra corp. Jakania was recently annexed into the Kingdom of Cobura, and foreign nationals and chieftains there are said to be anxious about the role of the oil-rich region within greater Cobura.

Cobura and Hawu Mumenhes to inaugurate newly-inked military alliance with joint naval-building task force

Flexitime 4095ish -- The Vizierate of Defence and the Hawu Mumenhes Defence Ministry have begun advanced talks on a planned naval development partnership between the growing powers. The technology and ship-building program is the first outgrowth of the Treaty of Silovanje Selo and the Treaty of Personal Union, two post-war pacts that have seen the two countries embrace increasingly close relations. Defence experts say the naval alliance will greatly benefit both countries, with Cobura getting a needed show of strength in its chilly relations with neighbor and Majatran power Zardugal, and Hawu Mumenhes receiving a continuing confirmation of its emerging power status. The naval partnership will primarily focus on long-range force projection including the construction of aircraft carrier vessels. Strategic weapons development has also been broached by the bilateral ministerial group, though no specifics have been disclosed.

Saksoure Prince Responds to Minister Panteĥno
Image
Prince Akhaias laughing at Zardic Minister Safira Panteĥno's blustering.

Prince Akhaias Saksoure, a high-ranking member of the House of Saksoure and eighth in succession to the throne of Cobura, recently responded to the Zardic interior minister's racist and misinformed comments regarding Cobura's support for Jelbania's seat on the Security Council.

Firstly, let's get the most egregious lie out of the way: The Saksoure dynasty has never claimed, even nominally, to profess or support the Hosian religion. I don't have the faintest idea where that notion came from. The vast majority of the House practices Arkhe, and always has. Secondy, I thought the idea that Cobura is a wayward Zardic province died with the waves of soldiers Zardugal threw at Cobura forty years ago in a desperate attempt to reestablish the Augustan Empire. Cobura fought a two front war against one of the historically great military forces of Terra, and by all measures, won. Thousands of Zardic soldiers were sacrificed so that the Zardic government could gain control of a few buildings and Theodoro could pretend to be Augustus the Great. This is the kind of jingoistic ideology Zardugal would bring to the Security Council. They will throw countless lives away in pursuit of former glory.

Has Jelbania had its problems? Yes, I won't deny that. But the current government is much more enlightened and Jelbania appears to be on the path to tolerance and reform. Zardugal wants to make Ahmadis second class citizens, and recently spent 10 years watching their military make no progress against a bunch of so-called "bongo-beaters." Panteĥno calls Cobura a "historically Augustan province" because Zards can only look to the past, or become hopelessly depressed at how far their country has fallen. The rest of Terra need not be so delusional. Should we support the nation that is trending upward, or one that can do nothing but condescend as they reminisce about their long-dead empire?

Really, if even half of Zardugal's government is this misinformed, it also speaks volumes about the inability of unfettered republicanism to support a stable and just government. The Minister's entire statement was completely incoherent and if we weren't all so unfortunate to have her in such a high position, I would not have wasted my breath responding to it.

Degife Meba Kirubel Promises a new nuclear age for Cobura

Today in a press conference Kirubel leak limited information about what he called a new nuclear age of strength for Coubra. To Quote
With the passage of the military act and the recent budget increases I will order the propose project Titan to commence. We are contacting some of the smartest people in the world to help us and by 4180 we will have at the very least 20 weapons capable for long range nuclear strikes.

He also said similar things about a new navy project in a interview that included him, Harrison Horrell, Theodore Jones and gesha Trefe Belendia with the global gezzet
I, and my team are currently trying to work with both private enterprise and foreign nations to make a nuclear capable Cobura in this century. I am also doing a very similar project with aircraft carriers. We may not make it but it is my job to dream big and plan bigger so that what I am doing. My dream is to have Cobura be a dominant military power when I die.

We can also see this attitude of extreme optimism and relentless trying to be a world power in an economic seance too. To quote Finance Minister Munit Markos Ephraim
The diffence of this government and the other ones of the past is that the government of today is the government of achievement. I know the other ministries are working very hard but I don't know what I can and can't say so I will tell you about my ministry. We are working with industry to make new jobs. To make high quality goods cheaper. We will bring down taxes while keeping up spending with an even budget. By our lifetimes Cobura will be one of the most richest nations in the world.

Now let's hope our future is as optimistic as the government says it is.

Half-Yearly Updates On Nuclear Project
Hello, I am Minister of Defence Degife Meba Kirubel, and i would like to announce that we are officially starting our nuclear program (CNP) we have a team of some of the smartest people in terra. We have all the resources to, all the money, and an amazing team. Our last estimation to when we would get the bond was in 418, same wit aircraft carriers, but that was a conservative guess, by the end of the century we would have the capability to make 5 ICBM a year.

First Missile Test Sucsefful
Hello, Today the first ICBM test has been successful and we can now conclude that once we have the capability to produce a nuclear bomb we would have a long range nuclear weapon. We still believe we would have the capability to produce 5 nuclear war heads per year by 4160. We thank you for your time

Semayawi Returns
August 3, 4175

Semayawi a rightwing political association which was once active in the early 40th century The association officially returned to politics today after holding a "meeting" in its old stronghold of Yaaymro, Domale where a leader (Chairman of the National Association) was chosen by its "shareholders" - donors who funded the restoration of the association. Each donor exercised a vote equivalent to the proportion of his donations out of the entire pool of donations.

Image
Chairman Meles al-Bashir

The association chose actor Meles al-Bashir, 74 as its Chairman and public face. al-Bashir, considered to be a B-list actor at best, has recently raised his profile substantially by hosting the popular ''The Real Situation" show where he covers politics in his uniquely folksy and flamboyant manner. He memorably tore his Arkhean Front membership card on the show last year, decrying what he viewed to be " radical, egalitarian socialism sandwiched with the promising term 'centre-left'. al-Bashir gave a short press conference expressing his vision.

When society breaks down and our traditions mocked, we ask ourselves - what is the cause? The answer is simple- Government. Friends, government is the problem not the solution. It's the villain in every piece, every imaginable evil is down to it. It subsidises single parenthood, it subsidies poverty, crime and laziness. It kills jobs with regulation then encourages the victims of that to remain in that worthless state of unemployment. Semayawi wants to liberate the Coburan people. I stand here as your champion, when you have a pest in your field, you remove it. Let Semayawi be your DDT and remove the pest that is big government from the lovely field that is Cobura.
To live outside the law, you must be honest.

Strange Bedfellows; Lord of Cobura, Emperor of the Augustans, and Tewahedo Bishop of Sharba Issue Condemnations of Radical Secular Agenda
July 4190

The Demokrata Unio government has experienced a strong backlash against the radical secular Religious Taxation Adjustment Act from nearly the entirety of the Coburan religious community. The act was passed in response to a 200 percent increase in non-taxable donations to religious organizations following the enactment of an earlier law that established the taxation of most other religious income. The RTAA requires all religious income be taxed, but the religious community’s primary issue with the law is its prohibition of ministers of religion from receiving remuneration or a salary of any kind.

The Lord of Cobura, who is regarded as the unofficial leader of the Arkhe religion, the Emperor of the Augustans, and the Tewahedo Bishop of Sharba have each spoken out against the Act, representing opposition from each of Cobura’s three most prominent religious groups.

Emperor of the Augustans Herodoto II issued a communique in January 4190 condemning the legislation under the terms of the Treaty of Cezareo and the Treaty of the Imperial Throne of the Augustans. The Emperor stated that the entire Terran Patriarchal Community must condemn the persecution of Patriarchal Ministers in Cobura, and called for sanctions on the Coburan government. The Imperial Throne is formally allowed to “intervene” in Cobura to protect Terran Patriarchal interests, although what is meant by this is open to interpretation. The Throne may find difficulty establishing sanctions throughout the Patriarchal Community against Cobura, as two of the three signatories, New Endralon and Zardugal, are under control of left-wing governments. Vanuku, where the Crown Party has recently regained power, may be the Throne’s only source of support for this initiative.

Emperor of the Augustans Herodoto II

Following a failed attempt by the Arkhean Front to repeal the Act in May of 4190, the Lord of Cobura Kharakhte II delivered a short address to the Royal Assembly stating that if the bill is not repealed following the Royal Assembly elections in February of 4191, the Lord will pardon any minister of religion who is convicted of taking a salary. The Lord justified this action by arguing that the act is unconstitutional under Article 8 of the Coburan Constitution of 4177, which allows the Lord to guarantee the free exercise of beliefs. Under Article 20, the Lord is allowed the unconditional right of pardon.

The announcement that the Lord would begin pardoning all ministers beginning in 4191 was met with acclaim from both the Terran Patriarchal and Tewahedo communities, with the Emperor of the Augustans and the Tewahedo Bishop of Sharba expressing support for the action. The Emperor of the Augustans has further stated he does not plan on withdrawing his support for sanctions on Cobura as “the Patriarchal Community must put pressure on the people of Cobura to overturn these laws, as is our right. We have great respect for His Majesty the Lord, but issuing pardons does not rectify the issue.” Nevertheless, the outrage generated by the bill has cemented the monarchy’s reputation as a protector of the religious freedoms of the Coburan people, and brought together the often feuding IToTA and Coburan monarchy on one issue, at least for a moment.

Liberala Demokratia Partio Records 30 Seats in 4209 Election

Image
Party leader Hikmat Stankić speaking at a press conference

May 4209 - The Liberala Demokratia Partio recorded an unprecedented win last night, gaining 30 seats, 1/9th of the legislature in Cobura. In total, the Liberala Demokratia Partio received about 12% of the vote in Cobura. Many of these votes came from Domale and Irkawa, and the largest victory was a second place in Domale with 25% of the vote in the 82% turnout of the population. Tokundian and Egatoan voters did not appreciate these new opposition parties and showed very strong support for the Royalist Front, especially in Egato. This is a major victory for the opposition parties, which also include the Populace Concord (20 seats) and the Social Liberal Party (0 seats).

In other news, after this win, the party re-submitted a proposal that was removed due to an accident in the Royal Assembly and should pass with bi-partisan agreement. The proposal is step one of regulating control of the economy, which is to start regulating monopolies, and then fully ban them. The party is also drafting a cabinet proposal for equal division of the parties, according to a source close to the party leader.

Hikmat has released a statement regarding the cabinet proposal,

"We have started to think about it, but we won't write it now. It is coming soon, probably in the next month or two. One thing I can tell you is that the Royalist Front will still be the head of government, but the ministers will be equally split between the 5 parties."

The next election will be held in 4215.
